Three cheese quiche
Margo A.

I stopped into Prantl's on a Saturday afternoon for sweets and savories, and I was not disappointed! I ordered a three-cheese quiche, and it was delightful. The crust was buttery and fluffy, and the eggs were perfectly cooked. I also took home a few cookies, and they didn't even last 24 hours. They remind me of the sugar cookies a relative only makes for the holidays, so now I'll be able to get my cookie fix year-round! I was also in and out of Prantl's within minutes, but be prepared to wait if arriving when they first open! But, overall, you will love what Prantl's has to offer.

I came here after hearing about their burnt almond torte and had to try it! I think it was my first time trying this and I really enjoyed the cake! I really liked how the almonds and the custard filling came together.

I came to this location after finding out the Forbes Ave location is closed permanently. I was warmly greeted and then overwhelmed by all of the selections of pastries. The staff patiently waited for me to peruse all of the cases. I ended up getting about 8 items and only paid about $23! The Jr Pecan rolls were a perfect bite. The almond croissant was delicious as well. I was hoping for some almond paste in the middle but it was still pretty delicious. I will definitely be back next time I'm in the area.

We recently celebrated our parents' 50th anniversary and wanted to recreate their original wedding cake. After reaching out to several bakeries, only Prantl's was able to bring this vision to life--and they did an absolutely incredible job. We worked with Shanon, who was wonderful from start to finish. We sent her a 50-year-old photo of the cake, and she and the team perfectly captured every detail. The result was stunning and tasted just as amazing. The delivery was right on time, and the delivery person went above and beyond--carefully arranging the cake and even bringing along an extra to-go box for leftovers. Thank you, Shanon and Prantl's, for helping make this milestone celebration so memorable for our mom and dad.

I was reading that the toasted almost torte is an absolute must when visiting Pittsburgh. Yea. Skip the sandwich with French fries on it. Just get this. Get ten of these Jrs. Stop reading this. Book a flight. Rent a car. Get down here. Do it now. It's that good. That's all I'm going to say about it. #eatpittsburgh #almondtorte

Our custom 2 layer burnt almond torte wedding cake, delivered and set up by Prantl's at our venue
Andrea C.

We used Prantl's for our wedding cake because the burnt almond torte is my favorite thing on the planet. They worked closely with me on exactly how I wanted it to look and the size, and the details of getting my decorations to them ahead of time. They delivered it to my venue about 40 minutes away and everything went flawlessly. They even advised us that it was a better decision to not get the extra layer to freeze for our anniversary because it doesn't freeze well, and to save the money and get a fresh little cake when the time comes (which is this weekend!)

Ham and cheese croissant

Went in asking for a ham and cheese croissant warmed up, and the person at the register said "I guess we could do that" like warming up a croissant is an unusual thing to ask for. Got my warmed-up croissant and started eating it, realized there was one half-slice of ham folded up and what I believe to be no cheese. I am sad to say that this place had poor service and even poorer food. (should've just gone to Starbucks down the street) as someone that loves supporting small businesses!! I also encourage the small businesses to have better customer training and food than the chains.

Prantl's bakery was just okay. I feel like this bakery gets a lot of hype, so I was excited to try it. I got a broccoli and cheese quiche, which tasted like it had been thawed from the freezer (I swear I bit into a piece of ice). The apricot hamantaschen was lovely though; I had never tried it before but the cookie was perfectly soft and I liked the apricot jam filling. There isn't seating inside and the service was fine.

When visiting Pittsburgh I always say there are the 3 P's of food destinations and Prantl's in Shadyside is one of them. (Right next door is Pamela's). When visiting my alma mater (Carnegie Mellon) recently, I had to go to Shadyside, site of my old haunting grounds, for breakfast. Much had changed over the years but Prantl's is still a fixture. I was going to a friend's home for dinner and wanted to make sure I brought some of their Famous Burnt Almond Torte. It was a small affair so I bought one piece of the Pastry, one of the raspberry and one of the Custard. Pittsburghers are always happy when someone brings Prantl's over. By the way, I picked up some cookies as well that I flew back with me to California and ate 3 days later and they were amazing. You can order the tortes two days in advance to make sure they don't run out but the lady assured me over the phone that they wouldn't. We had a 40 minute wait for breakfast next door and I made my order in advance and they told me they could hold it for pickup later in the day as it was 80 degrees and humid out. We came back 3 hours later and took the cakes back to our hotel room and into the fridge. Everyone was so friendly, helpful, and accommodating. My host was so excited to get the Burnt Almond Torte for dessert. It was the perfect way to end the evening.

Over priced dry or possibly stale cupcake

Stopped after lunch because I wanted a sweet treat. Figured pals is one of the best shots to go to right? I thought so. Though I do have to rave about the chocolate buttercream icing on the thumbprint was fantastic! But the Beetlejuice cupcakes decoration, cute, and festive for the time of year. And the movie as well. But, the cupcake was dense not a problem. But it was bone dry extremely disappointed when you're paying $3.50 a cupcake.

"A picture is worth a thousand words".....soft, pillowy cinnamon buns topped with a sticky, crunchy, caramelized pecan topping. They're simply divine. I seek out good sticky buns, and I guarantee you won't find better ones than those baked at Prantl's. They're wonderfully delicious!

The flavors were balanced, the pastry was buttery and delicate, and they looked as good as they tasted. The total came to $50.65, which feels pretty standard for a French bakery once you understand the baseline is a bit higher than your typical American dessert spot. For the quality, it's well worth it. Consistently great, reliably tasty, and perfect for special occasions or whenever you want to treat yourself. The staff is friendly. It's usually busy here and not conducive to eating inside.

The croissants were great when you lightly air fry/toast them if you don't eat them right away. In Lawrenceville, it's a small location with a couple of outdoor seating but none inside. However, it is a chain so you might have one in your little area. My only thing is that the pistachio eclair is very sweet (so if you don't have a sweet tooth, maybe I'd go for another subtler dessert). I saw they have a deal where you can get a baguette, sandwich, and drink for $7. Good deal imo considering the quality of their bread, and it's a good excuse to buy a sweet treat with it!

Such a fun, hands on experience getting to see Kyle in action and the amount of hard work that goes into every order. I loved hearing his stories about his childhood and his family influences. Kyle is only 31 and has owned his business for over 7 years! That's impressive. You can really see the passion behind his baking. He works incredibly hard and even sacrifices a lot of his social life to keep growing his business, perfecting his craft, and supporting his community. Small business, big story! definitely a spot worth supporting in Pittsburgh!!!!! Thank you Kyle & Lisa

I did not need a large, custom order, so I stopped by the business to browse their offerings. I saw two display cases of cakes, bars, brownies, fudges, scones, and cookies, and I saw one refrigerator of cinnamon rolls, banana breads, muffins, etcetera. An employee immediately greeted me, and as I selected my desserts, she carefully placed them in a box for me. She made friendly conversation, accurately rang up my purchase, and kindly thanked me. Here are my reviews for my desserts: Raspberry vanilla cake - $4.25 - 4.5 stars - I bought one slice of white cake that had vanilla frosting and some raspberry filling. The cake was fresh and had tart flavors, and the icing tasted sweet. Cherry pie bar - $3 - 4 stars - This bar contained a top layer of cherries. The flavor of cherries was subtler than I had expected. Apple pie bar - $3 - 3.5 stars - This bar contained a very thin layer of apple. I would recommend adding more apples for more flavor. Lemon pie bar - $3 - 5 stars - This bar had a strong taste of lemon and a nicely crispy crust. Cherry-chocolate scone - $3.25 - 3.5 stars - This scone was a large size. It contained a thin layer of cherries and chocolate chips. 6 various cookies - $5 - I rate the peanut-butter cookie as 4 stars, the sugar-sprinkle cookie as 3.5 stars, the snickerdoodle cookie as 3.5 stars, the chocolate-chip cookie as 3.5 stars, the oatmeal-raisin cookie as 4.5 stars, and the chocolate-cherry cookie as 3.5 stars. I am surprised these used to fulfill my order. First time customer, last time customer.
