We were very excited to work with Poynter for our landscaping project! Bob came out to our house three times to look at the space and go over the plans with us. Unfortunately when it came time to make some changes and finalize the plans we were completely ghosted. Over the past 5-6 weeks I've emailed twice and have called twice to leave messages and nothing has been returned. I understand it's a busy time and it was communicated that our project isn't urgent, but even a "hey I'm busy I'll get back to you in a couple of weeks" would've been appreciated. I contacted Margaret Cartaya at Poynter Landscaping. She came to our house on May 14th to give us an estimate on work we need. She said she would have an estimate early next week. Well, it's June 2nd and I still don't have an estimate for work. She emailed me a little over a week ago after I inquired about it and she emailed me back and apologized for the delay saying promised me an estimate last Monday. Still no estimate !! Look I get it's a busy time but this totally unprofessional not to come up with an estimate in a reasonable time frame. ‍ read more

At this time in our lives where contractors of any kind are absolutely impossible to get a hold of, to show up, or to respond, can you imagine someone both responded, showed up and did the work? Crazy right. I'll preface this by saying I had a small landscape job (it's a city yard, whadd'ya want??!). A job that I had two landscape architects come by and look at, then completely ghost me. They seemed to think it already looked spectacular even though I kept saying I wanted it completely re-done. Poynter seemed like a pretty large firm but their website said they did small projects so it was worth a try. Sure enough, the phone was answered and he gave me the time of day. I never felt like my job was too small (it was a $5500 job). Every time they came by, it felt like it was important. The plans were thorough, the communication was pretty good. I kept three main trees and a few milkweed plants but everything else was changed out. Part of the job was rebuilding rocks on a water feature. They did a great job making it look so much better. The few things I pointed out that needed fixing at the end, they fixed without an issue. The two laborers were very thorough in their work and very nice. They cleaned up everything. I highly recommend them for small jobs that other companies may shrug off. Not only did they show up but it looks fantastic! read more

Bob Lovatto and Dan Wischmeyer at Poynter are absolutely fantastic. From start of design through punch list they have done a fantastic job of understanding our wants, respecting our budget and delivering a fantastic landscaping installation. Everyone we came into contact with responded quickly and communicated effectively. I can't recommend this group highly enough! We started working with Bob to get a landscaping concept for our entire lot, with a phased approach for installation. Bob and team did a great job of presenting drawings and plans that would create a beautiful and functional landscape in a way that we could install in phases to meet our budget. He was great about reviewing the design and tweaking after hearing our input. Dan and his team were great about completing the install in a timely and professional manner. The end result far exceeded our dreams and we can't wait to start working on Phase 2! read more

DO NOT USE THIS LANDSCAPE FIRM! THEY DO NOT BACK UP THEIR WARRANTY. $15,450.00 spent, and I have a crooked retaining wall, and Poynter is not willing to come and correct the issue and prove it is structurally sound. I hired Poynter to build the retaining wall, costing $15,450.00, because they designed my landscape plan and were aware of the location, size and timing of all aspects of our plan and so I could be assured what was in the picture would be delivered, and they warrantied their work. At completion it was explained to me that although I had hired them to deliver a wall that would allow me to have a yard per the plan, they would not complete the final grade, and it would be fine because the builder had yet to lay the sod, and the builder would care for the grade in their final grade. I noticed a few weeks after the wall completed, that my fencing was all bent, and that the wall was bowed for a large portion of the wall, and was obviously moving and the fence with it. Poynter sent their wall expert out to look at it. Poynter's expert stated that the wall was structurally sound, and although it had clearly moved it would not fall down. He was so confident that he verbally offered me an extend warranty. I preferred for the wall to be corrected, so I requested such from Poynter. Time went by and no action had been taken to correct the issue. I finally got an extended warranty in writing, BUT Poynter also included a disclaimer stating any machinery being used for any work in the yard in the future would need to be kept a minimum of 10 ft from the wall and that I needed to notify them 7 days in advance of doing any work in my yard, or the warranty would be void, and that it was their belief that a heavy machine being used in the rear yard had caused the issue. This disclaimer with its constraints and criteria were never documented nor were they verbally communicated before the wall build started or even at its completion Poynter used this opportunity to blame the bulge in their wall on 1.) the installation of trees (not anywhere remotely near the bulge in the wall), 2.) the manual digging of fence posts, and 3.) the final grading/ sod work. Note: Poynter was well aware all of these activities because; 1.) These actives were on their plan. 2.) We communicated with them that their delays in completing the wall, due to weather and permit issues, were holding up these activities. 3.) Poynter stated that I should wait for the builder to do the final grade instead of completing the final grade themselves. After noticing that the wall continued to shift I contacted Poynter again, and demanded they come and inspect the wall again as there was continued movement. This time Richard Poynter showed up to look at the wall and was extremely argumentative, again saying there was nothing wrong with the wall, and my expectations were too high to expect it to remain straight. Poynter said the wall was sound, and if I did not believe him I could engage an engineer on my own dime to prove it. My response was I don't think I should have to spend even more money and I would expect them to refer an independent engineer and pay for the engagement. I also asked that Poynter just fix the top course of bricks which would at least correct the appearance of the bulge and if the engineer confirmed it was sound, I would be happy. More time went by and Poynter emailed me saying they needed the contact information of everyone that had worked in my yard. I stated that I did not believe this was required but if they have the engineer contact me I will answer any questions he has (as an independent assessment) and put him in contact with my contractors if needed. Poynter then stalled telling me they were working on engaging an engineer to look at the wall and would get back to me, but used the time to position themselves legally sending me a registered letter demanding that I turn over the contact information of everyone that has worked in my yard under the pretense that they needed it for the engineer, but in fact so they could use that information in a legal defense. read more

We had Poynter repair a drainage issue caused by our builder. In the process we had them prepare a master plan for the yard. The repair was done to perfection and looks beautiful! We get compliments weekly. Most recently we had a couple of the junipers die due to the early spring and late freeze... Poynter came out immediately, replaced them and then proceeded to clean up the area and re-mulch as a courtesy! We are very impressed with the professionalism of Poynter. We are planning to have them do some more of our master plan next year! read more

We have been remodeling a home and we have to say that working with Poynter was one of the easiest projects we did and one of the most professional companies we worked with. We wanted to redo our front landscape and had contacted two places for the bid. The gentleman from the other company came out and we explained what we wanted but when he sent us the bid it was nothing at all like what we had requested. Drew from Poynter came out and really listened to us. We explained what we wanted and he gave us some other ideas. Together we came up with a wonderful plan for our landscape. It took a bit of time because of some other work we were having done and a lot of rain but once Poynter started our project it was one of the smoothest. We watched them work and we have to say these guys never stopped. They had built a retaining wall around our garden and we watched as they leveled every block and if something did not look right they took it out and redid it. They worked tirelessly even on some rather wet days. The end result being a front landscape that was so awesome people driving down the street are stopping to look. We have been asked numerous times who did the work. We would most definitely recommend them to anyone. Yes their bid was higher but they are living proof you get what you pay for and after some really bad experiences with other contractors they were a welcome change.
