Our experience with Big Bend Landscaping left much to be desired. Our initial outdoor living space project last year took over 6 months for completion. We accepted their proposal in June 2024, making a large deposit for the project to begin. Yet we struggled to get any kind of a project timeline from them and had difficulty getting timely responses. Finally in early November 2024, the project was completed but unfortunately the space couldn't really be used given the weather. In March of this year, we contacted Big Bend Landscaping to inquire about the patio pavers being discolored. After multiple visits by Big Bend Landscaping and representatives from Belgard, we were informed that the pavers were defective and the entire patio needed replacing. We agreed to have the work start in August and we were advised that to ensure no other discrepancies, a supervisor would be onsite the entire time with the crew. In summary, this did not occur. Pavers were delivered without their presence. The following day, the laborers began dismantling the old patio, without supervision, loading huge amounts of pavers into their dump truck, causing multiple cracks to our new concrete driveway. We immediately informed Big Bend Landscaping and were advised that they would either repair or replace the two concrete pads - whatever we wanted them to do. However, when it came time to address it, we were advised that the owner, Joe Francke, refused to pay to have the concrete replaced and that they were not responsible for any damage to our property. Instead, they attempted to repair the cracks which made it look even worse. See the attached photos. We have attempted to communicate with Big Bend Landscaping on this decision and provided them with a quote from our concrete company. However, as was the case with our entire engagement with Big Bend Landscaping, the current owner elects not to respond. There are far too many landscaping companies in the St. Louis area that would love to earn your business and treat you with professional courtesy. This is not one of them. read more

wish I could give a negative number of stars for this review. Big Bend Landscaping did a terrible job correcting storm water drainage, building retaining walls and a flagstone path. The retaining wall was not built according to material standard installation practices. A year after the retaining walls were put in, they are not are not level now. They put down insufficient stone base and didn't dig down sufficiently. They did not use pins as was supposed to be done, they put just a couple drops of adhesive and thought that was ok. Now I'm having to pay to have it all redone and done correctly. They do not stand by their warranty. Avoid this company at all costs! read more

My experience with Big Bend Landscaping has been pretty terrible. I got assigned John and he had an idea for an open French drains that would fill my side yard with gravel. I have a small house on a 1/4 acre but it seemed like a reasonable quote at $2,800. He was in a rush to get me to agree to work with him but he has been difficult to work with since agreeing to work with him. I agreed to work with him but I asked for another idea and he came up with permeable pavers. I told him I was willing to spend $10,000 and he said that was reasonable but he needed to meet a second time. After the second meeting, he called me with a quote for $33,000. I told him that was unreasonable and asked if he had other ideas since I had already agreed to work with him. He wanted to meet a third time. Not a good use of anybody's time. UPDATE: thanks for reviewing the correspondence. As a slight tweak, he required a third appointment; I had a conflict at the time we had set and called to reschedule. He then said he had no other ideas and saw no reason to reschedule. Fortunately, it all worked out. We were able to find another company to take a look. They inspected the yard and called with their recommendations. It turns out we already had complete drains underground. We got those existing drains cleaned and haven't had an issue since. Saved $32,500 and avoided unnecessary in-person meetings. read more

This company began work (retaining wall) in April 2022 and did not complete it until July 2022. We had issues with a water pipe burst leading to further work, communication with their sub contractors efficiency, and placing incorrect substrate behind the retaining wall which we are still dealing with. We had to get another company to remove sand from the front of the wall and replace it with top soil. Every good rain we still have sand/soil weeping through the bricks. Very disappointing. read more

I didn't hire Big Bend Landscaping, I was unfortunate enough to live next to one of their jobs. My first contact with them was when they approached me to tell me they may have driven their bobcat through my grass. They weren't really sure because they had no clue where the property line was at. Seems strange that it didn't stop them from taking the bobcat through that area just let me know after it was done. Immediately after I noticed materials and debris piling in the street. I've done any number of landscaping jobs in my life time and never have I ever had a contractor take over a public street for weeks on end. This crew parked their trailer, dumped their gravel, and left piles of dirt in the street. On more than one occasion I had to wait to exit my drive way as they had me blocked in. Not only did they think it was appropriate to make me wait for them to finish loading their truck to be able to leave one day they piled so much dirt behind my drive way I had to wait for it to be moved to leave. When I asked them to move the dirt they said "give me an hour our truck isn't here" Luckily I didn't have to wait an hour, one of the workers moved the dirt to block the customers driveway so I could get out. I have never in my life seen a crew more disrespectful of the neighborhood around them even after living in a new construction neighborhood I am amazed at the lack of common courtesy. If you have any respect for those that live around you I would say hire someone else. I can't speak to the quality of their work but I can tell you I would never hire them. read more

I recently met Pat and his family and we talked a lot about his family as well as his Landscaping operation. I was impressed on his extensive knowledge of Missouri's plants and trees. I am thrilled with the work Big Bend Landscaping did. They put in an extensive dry creek drain in my back yard, and it not only solved my serious drainage problem, it looks great too. Plus they tore out the crumbling railroad ties that served as a retaining wall for the patio and installed a beautiful stone wall. Then they laid sod in all the areas where previously not much grass was growing. The whole effect is transformative. Now I know there are many landscaping companies that could do this, but Big Bend did an outstanding job, on schedule, and at a very good price. I never saw workers work as hard as they did. When adjustments needed to be made, I called John, he always answered promptly, and it was done. Their attention to detail was particularly professional. The retaining wall was carefully engineered and constructed. Each stone was cut precisely to fit in corners and angles. Workers got on their hands and knees to lay the dry creek stones in a pleasing contour along the edges. They even set two large flagstones across the creek to serve as a footbridge so I could access the bird feeders easily. They used good judgment in laying sod where it was needed, even if I had not specified some places. Nothing was done slip-shod or halfway. And as a happy ending, a few days after the work was completed, we had a torrential rain, but not a drop of water ended up in my basement and the pop-up drain in the side yard was handling the fast rush of water perfectly. October 2021: Hired Big Bend Landscaping for an extensive patio paver install in my back yard that totaled 640 square feet. The crew arrived promptly on the promised date and worked the full day. In fact, they were prompt, courteous and efficient each day they showed up. They even came in on a Saturday to get caught up. I can recommend this company for patio paver work. read more

I cannot speak to the quality of work preformed so I didn't list anything in the rating. A few days ago this company completed an extensive job on my neighbors home (I know this from the company trucks in their driveway and yard signs). There was yard irrigation done, stone cutting for a fire pit, etc.. One would assume that in the bid for services that included would be when completed the cleanup to the property is as clean as when the work began. While in my laundry room last Thursday I could clearly hear a leaf blower near my house. I looked out my window to see a BBL employee with leaf blower in hand and directing debris from their services performed on my neighbors house onto my driveway and property as he cleaned my neighbors driveway. This included many leaves that have been falling. When I have hired someone to perform work on my house it is always stated that the company providing their services will return the property to its original condition. This means all debris that they created will be gathered and removed from the property, not avoided by blowing all debris onto someone else's property. This was a shortcut that BBL could have and should have avoided. Now I have to clean up the debris from a job they got paid for at my neighbors house! read more
