Beware. Our experience with this company started out promisingly, but has turned into an utter, utter nightmare. We hired Power Movers in order to move our heavy furniture in a simple, same-city move. We made it clear that we would be moving most of our small possessions ourselves, and we just needed Power Movers to handle the large items. The most important of these items was our nice Crate & Barrel wooden platform bed, which was almost brand new. We called ahead of time to make sure the company was comfortable dis-assembling and re-assembling the bed, and they assured us that they were. (This assurance was one of the primary reasons we chose Power Movers.) Then, on the day of the move, we reiterated to all three movers that the bed was our most valuable and fragile item. We printed out detailed, step-by-step instructions for assembly, directly from Crate and Barrel, and the movers agreed to use them. From there, the move proceeded pretty well, and we enjoyed getting to know the crew. They seemed kind and gracious, and with a couple of somewhat frustrating exceptions, they seemed to be making a real effort to do a good job. One of those exceptions was that, at the end of the day, when I returned to the home we were moving from, I saw the assembly instructions for the bed on the ground. The movers hadn't taken the instructions with them to our new place. Perhaps, I hoped, the movers had taken photos of the instructions. Unfortunately, shortly after the move, our bed -- which one of the movers had assembled, by himself, at our new place -- began creaking and the joints began sagging. To our dismay, we inspected the frame, and the wood was splintering in four places. This was serious damage. What's more, we worried that sleeping on the bed could make the damage worse, since the bed was clearly not structurally sound at this point. We understand that mistakes happen. The mover who assembled the bed seemed like a really nice guy. I don't doubt that he wanted to do a good job. For whatever reason, though -- perhaps he didn't have the adequate training, or maybe he needed the instructions after all -- he didn't assemble the bed properly. So, we called the company to notify them of the damage, assuming they would rectify the issue quickly. After all, we had trusted this company. To our genuine horror, the manager I spoke with displayed no urgency and took practically no responsibility. After three days of back-and-forth, they offered to send, one week later, the original moving team to "assess" the situation. They did not provide any explanation for what the team would do at that point, or whether they would be qualified to fix this kind of problem. When I asked whether they could do anything sooner, or whether they could send someone who was properly qualified to fix the bed, they were almost entirely unhelpful. After much pushback from me, they eventually added that a contractor could join the mover for the assessment, but they still provided very few details, and almost seemed annoyed that I was asking for such details. Meanwhile, by the way, we don't have a functional bed, nor do we have the space to put a mattress somewhere else. Our own attempts to call a handyman have been unsuccessful, because many of them won't deal with splintered wood. Perhaps the worst part was that, as I was trying to ask for more details, or lobby for a swifter response, the manager I was speaking with repeatedly pointed to the fact that "we had signed a contract" that released them from most liability. They referred to the fine print in the contract, which, in their interpretation, limited them to damages of 60 cents per pound of material -- which, in this case, amounted to a laughable $40 for the bed. In my estimation, their reading of the contract is wrong. It's poorly written and amateurish, and fails to shield them from liability in the way they think it does. Nevertheless, in my experience, good businesses -- honest businesses -- don't conduct themselves this way. They don't shove fine print in front of a person who's using a moving company for the first time, fail to verbally explain the available insurance options, and then, when they damage that person's most valuable possession through some combination of negligence and incompetence, blame the customer for signing the contract. Rather, good businesses -- the kind of businesses that earn customers' trust -- own up to mistakes when they happen and try to fix them as quickly and professionally as they can. In this case, we just feel silly and gullible for trusting Power Movers in the first place. read more

After being contacted about the issue via management after my review, I promptly received a call and Power Movers were more than happy to reimburse the purchase of the part and the cost of repair. Once receiving the part, I saw I could repair it myself instead of hiring an overpriced repair person and did just that. I know they would have covered the repair but it felt like an extra unnecessary step. Issue was resolved promptly, just wish it didn't have to come after writing a lengthy review but in the end, they did the right thing. I used Power Movers to move my solid wood Amish furniture. All items were packed by myself meticulously with up to two layers of thick padded moving blankets. On August 30, 2024 I contacted Power Movers to move me from my 2 bedroom apartment in Houston to a 2 bedroom apartment in Richmond Tx. They sent a 3 man crew and I was excited to be moving into my new home. 30 minutes into the move Isaiah one of the movers dropped 6 of my moving bins and broke valuable dish sets, fine china dishes, candle holders, crystal dishes, goblets and majority of my dishes for my kitchen and I'm left with just a few dishes and my moms valuable 50 piece dish set was totally destroyed and left me with only 2 pieces left of which I can never get any of those memories back due to the negligence and disregard of Isaish for not loading his dolly with 6 moving bins that were clearly marked kitchen and dining are fragile. To add more insult to me. I filed a claim with Power Movers and was totally insulted today when they told me they was only willing to pay me 250.00 for all of my items that were broken and damaged due to their mover not doing his job properly. It's obvious this company does not stand by their principles to treat their clients right and take care of their precious and valuable items. I will not accept this low ball offer to pay me 61 cents on the dollar all the while all of my items are now broken and damaged and sitting in the trash and should be in my new home. Moving doesn't just seem to be a necessary evil in my life, but a frequent one. I'm almost in my 40s now and I've never lived anywhere longer than 5 years, and that was an outlier. It seems that I move on average once every year and a half. From the beginning, this business was very responsive to my questions and request for a quote. That is an important factor in my decision when selecting a mover. Specifically in this case, when I don't know anyone in the area. These guys moved me into our new 3 story townhome. They did great! They arrived on time and immediately went to work. All of my furniture was wrapped with padding and plastic wrap for protection, in the past I've had to pay for my own or rent it. They also disassembled and reassembled my furniture. They worked so hard and fast I decided to get them lunch, so ordered pizza. This was by far one of my easiest moving experiences. Given the assortment of items I was transporting, I chose the hourly rate with two movers. My confirmation Emails went right into the Spam folder for ProtonMail, but I caught them quickly. Lastly,​ the day before, I got an email from Power Movers reminding me that I was moving. Moving: I received​ a phone call about ten minutes before my scheduled time, saying they were about ten minutes away. I confirmed with them where the loading dock was, and they arrived​ with a large box truck. The two movers immediately​ introduced themselves, and we all shook hands. We assessed what was to be moved, and we all got to work. Mostly I staged things at the elevator, and they got things into the truck. Overall this took about an hour of my two-hour minimum window. Driving: I sent my address to the phone that called me for convenience. I also recommended they stay on the feeder lanes due to the traffic at the time of day. I got everything ready for the unloading at my place. Unloading: The crew backed into my townhouse complex, and we got to work unloading everything into my home office. The unloading was quick work, but the team needs lighting inside the truck. Paying: I fully expected to hand out cash at the end of this, but PowerMovers has a simple tablet app for paying and leaving tips. There were some complications with using it due to the Verizon dead spot in my complex. I'm not sure what they would do about it, we just moved closer to my house repeater and caught a signal. 5/5 I would use Power Movers again. Can't say enough good things about Power Movers. Reviews were solid but Yelp offered the option to shop around rates and message numerous movers at once. These guys were the only ones who were happy to work through the platform. Every other mover in the city insisted on having an email address prior to sending a quote. Power Movers booked my moving date all within the messenger and were very quick to respond where everyone else completely dropped the ball. On to the actual service provided; the gentlemen that were sent to my apartment were absolutely exceptional. They were helpful, friendly, and quick. I'm thrilled I worked with Power Movers. I can't say enough good things about Lance and Gary and I've already referred them to others because the process was so great. I called to book these movers yesterday (Thursday) for a Sunday move and was told the hourly rate and trip fee and accepted those terms. I was told it was a $100 deposit to book the time, which I accepted. I was never told anything about fees to reschedule or cancel - that's what a non-refundable deposit is usually for. I was in the hospital sick this week and am having a relapse, so I warned them today that I may not be able to do the move, but I wouldn't know for sure until tomorrow (the day before the scheduled move). I asked if I should go ahead and cancel so they can book someone else or scheduled their team off - or wait until tomorrow when I know for sure. She said let's reschedule - but there's $100 fee for that (in addition to the deposit) - and I guess another $100 if I can't do it the day we choose now (I live out of town and it's a storage move, so not urgent). So then I said let's just cancel and I will rebook - we'll that's an additional $150!!! So BEWARE - just calling these guys cost me $250 and I have them plenty of notice and mUltiple options to be flexible. VERY BAD BIZ practices. read more

Our moving team did a great job! We moved from a 3 story town house and, even though they had to trek up and down 2 flights of stairs, they were very friendly and professional. They did a great job disassembling and reassembling our larger pieces of furniture. I have never had movers take such care in wrapping all our furniture. Nothing got damaged! There was a small nick to one wall which management very quickly followed up on. They set up an appointment for their contractor to come fix it the next day. The 5 star reviews from others totally convinced me they were the right guys for my move. I was able to book completely online and they responded in a quick time frame.
