My sweetie has taught me to love discount stores (dollar stores in North America, pound stores in the UK, and, I suppose, Euro stores on the continent). Poundland is no exception: it's well-lit and has wide aisles, and carries a wide selection of goods. We were able to pick up a number of things that we were looking for, plus some other things just for fun. I was surprised to learn that they offer delivery, because that's not the sort of thing that I would expect in this market segment.
What I wasn't so pleased with was that, like many retailers, they really push you to check yourself out. They do still have some stations where you can deal with a cashier, but they don't always staff it. I hate self-checkout with a passion that knows no bounds. Fortunately, at least some stores are getting rid of the self-checkouts because they've been facing an increasing problem with shoplifting. Poundland may catch on eventually, but they're not there yet. read more
