I agree with James Ottaway's review. Such a dreadfully intimidating place to be outside store closing times. A similar incident with security happened to myself at 4am early hours Friday 16th August 2019, after finishing my workout session in Anytime Fitness on the first floor, I proceeded to walk back though the centre only to be abused by security,. I was confronted by an abrupt announcement across the tannoy while I had paused to admire an open fronted glass display on a dessert vendor.
As I took a brief peep through the padlocked display unit, all of a sudden a foreign man's voice came screeching through a pubic speakerphone which was clearly referring to me, telling me to step away from the stall. He struggled with his English vocabulary and the accent was very difficult to grasp, but I managed to catch a few words - such as ''it's closed'' and ''you are on CCTV'' I was immediately horrified and DISGUSTED that a person sitting in a control room could apply such poor judgement to suggest I was someone with bad intentions and quite honestly I felt a strong sense that he portrayed me as a criminal. It actually left me feeling extremely angry and I wasn't prepared to tolerate him having an issue with someone just 'window shopping'
I also don't need him to REINSTATE THE OBVIOUS TO ME, I found his attitude towards me insulting and patronizing. I am very well aware the shops are closed, what security need to realize is, there is no harm in people wandering passed the shops to look in quieter less busy times. Once upon a time ( in medieval times ) it was against the law to loiter, I feel society is going backwards.
My concerns are that security, deprivation, poverty and local gangs are driving away business and tourism from the area. Eden and Swan are the only attractions. If you want to stop these historic buildings going to demolition then burn the attitude with decent people.
My relatives already have safety concerns about me living in High Wycombe, so when I broke the news to them about this situation, as you can imagine, it didn't go down well. I am now forced to travel to Anytime Fitness in Loudwater.
Frankly I am baffled with the good reviews. I think someone needs to burst their bubble and point out the reality they're missing.
On a general note, within the Eden, there are so many beggars, alcoholics. substance misusers and dealers, if you're a younger women and come from a good background be very weary of the nasty lowlife men directly objectifying and harassing women or grinning about them..... noisy speeding 'write off' cars with toxic exhaust fume and leaking engines, beware that many of the buses to the adjoining station are an MOT failure, not reliable to get to work, appointments etc... many bus drivers not caring, not turning up for shifts and rude to customers. Pretty much filth and peasants everywhere sums up Wycombe, a haven for infections and cross contamination, people sneezing and coughing needlessly while it costs £1 for a pack of piriteze or cough syrup from Savers. Nuisance cheap tatty scruffy people everywhere, low standards, low education, and many shop and restaurant staff in the Eden have poor training in customer service skills.
This corner of Buckinghamshire has the most miserable places, either you end up in a place full of wealthy fascist snobs or find yourself mixing in the depths of poverty, there's no healthy balance, if you want to socialize in areas of real diversity, don't live in the suburbs, instead consider West London. High Wycombe is drowning in a sink hole, trading times and pubic transport times need drastic improvement. If there was an extension on their licences, perhaps so many stores wouldn't have clearance sales
If you're in Wycombe, particularly if you have a stereotype appearance, you will be mistreated, no exceptions. Also, it is very mono-cultured and very clicky. Newcomers are not welcome here. read more
