Costco Wholesale - Cute!

I like Costco. This is the first one I ever visited, and in my mind is at least as good as the…read moreothers I've been to, if not better - and that includes the one I went to in Madison, Wisconsin. First off, you have to qualify to be a member so you can buy stuff - thankfully I have that covered due to my day job. It goes like £25 a year, and frankly you might make that back on the first visit. There are some items we always buy (we quite like the meat here) but you get some proper American surprises here - Otis Spunkmeyer frozen cookies once (stop laughing at the brand name), which were awesome and in this particular visit I was over the moon (and still am) that they had a Cheesecake Factory cheesecake in the frozen section. I've still got to eat that, and boy am I looking forward to it!! The own brand is pretty good (Kirkland), so is the meat and the bakery is awesome. Huge birthday cakes for £12 which are astonishingly good. The fruit and veg section isn't anything special, but you can get certain American imports even here - for example the sweetcorn cobs are an American brand which I swear to god is better than British sweetcorn. The downsides is that the store is vast, and set up very much as a warehouse. This does not look like a supermarket and so you need to set aside that expectation immediately. The other thing you'll have to get used to is the queues - people buy a lot of stuff, so checkouts can't process it all quickly. They do their best, but they generally can't keep up. Oh, and make sure you try the cafe afterwards. Footlong beef hotdog in a bun with unlimited soda for £1.50. The chicken bake seems expensive at £3. Never tried the jacket potatoes, but they're very popular and the pizza just flies out (I have tried that, and it's pretty good; it's quite a New York style) - but you can order it both by the slice and an entire pie.

I went in today to return some minor unused items following the passing of my father which we had…read morepurchased for the funeral proceedings. All paid for with my card when accompanied by the member, my mother. Cannot process refund I was told as my mother, an 80-year old grieving widow must come in and return the items herself. I explained that this would be difficult for her as she would be on her own. Doesn't matter, not their problem as they have policies in place. CHAD, the manager and truly an unsympathetic moron, asserted that GDPR is the reason. What on earth does GDPR have to do with returning items in a store? CHAD couldn't even bring himself to mutter a simple "sorry for your loss..." Disgraceful and arrogant conduct. He finished the discussion with a threat to terminate my mother's membership as he found my comment that I would be posting this episode on social media unacceptable. I see many negative comments on Costco Watford associated specifically with CHAD. Please return this guy to stacking shelves where he belongs.

Ah The Galleria, a staple of my miss-spent youth. The shops here are average to pretty rubbish…read more(though they do have a massive Waterstones) and you'll only get one or two of the big name high street places. I never really went shopping here because, while it has a fair number of shops, it never really has anything that you want or need. Guess that could be just me. The cinema is where I spent most of my days, chillin' out maxin' relaxin' all cool and watching some films after school. The cinema is average price with student discount and with your standard of sugary rubbish to enjoy while watching a film. The cinema screens themselves are good, the Digital screen is awesome, but the chairs and leg room leave something to be desired. It can get quite uncomfortable if you're a tall and are in a packed screening, but this rarely happens here, which is a other bonus. All in all a good place to while a way a fair number of hours with friends or that special someone.

I had seen the Galleria so many times from the road, passing under it, and been curious. Was really…read morelooking forward to visiting it but it is a souless place. Although it looks huge it takes hardly any time to go around and has nothing to recommend it in the way of differnt shops. They are the same as any high street. A large open area in the centre was laid out as a furniture vendoes. The stuff was ugly..even tasteless..and overpriced. Quite a few restaurants..untried but mostly the usual chains. The only saving grace, for me, was a pleasant cinema complex where we went to see Stardust. So much anticipation..such a disappointment.
