There are lots of different outlets in the store and I love the Jane Norman part even though it is quite small. Some things seem expensive. Noone had tried the tea room at the top of this store so we thought, why not?! We can be middle class Brits for a lunch... Well we can try! We ascended into the gods of 4th floor to a typically British styled tea room - quaint patterned crockey and duck egg blue stylings with a glass roof so you could embrace the sun's warmth. There was also a balcony area with a view of Guildford's rooftop buildings (not the best view ever I thought, one side had a massive radio antenna next to the window) but it was cold and had been raining so we thought better not! Little bit confused on entry as it seemd like a cafe where you seat yourself and then go to the till to order, but people were also being table served. After standing for 30 seconds like lemons and having noone come to show us a table, we found one ourselves and proceeded to natter and catch up as true Brits do. hen after the 5th waiter came along in quick succession to take our order, we thought 'let's look at the menu first!' Side point, one gripe about this placed (I've mentioned this in my reviews before), I HATE BEING WATCHED IN A RESTAURANT. You shouldn't have to feel that kind of pressure choosing your food. I did choose however, not feeling too hungry I went with a savoury scone - very high tea indeed! I have to admit, they were boasting about their scone selection here but they were right to boast. Amazing choice and the cheese scone came warm with a generous helping of creamy butter, it was amazing! At £4 I would expect so!! A pot of tea to finish things along, love the crockery here, typically British patterning. Friends had a sundried tomato tart, which also looked really good. They also served freshly squeezed lemonade here! Very fancy. Was it overpriced? I have had better in London for the same price. But this isn't London, Guildford is known for being pricey. Not only Guildford, where there is less choice and hence less competition in the realms of afternoon tea, but House of Fraser, which is a respected establishment. So yes it was overpriced, but I can't say I wouldn't return to work my way through their scone menu!

They also have a nice section of homewares and a lovely cafe to break up your shopping experience. Womens clothing is located on the 2nd and 3rd floors which again boasts a good selection of brands from high street brands to the more expensive brands. Overall a great store with excellent staff.

Marks is the quintessential British department store. With departments selling everything from clothing to kitchen appliances to bed and bath soft furnishings, plus a major supermarket of food, it's possible that you could shop M&S and never need to go anywhere else. They literally sell everything but cars! Very good quality stuff. Not just the clothing (which tends to run more towards the expensive side than the moderate end), the food options are plentiful. Lots of ready-to-heat items and things that need little preparation. I managed to find exactly what I needed - a decent pair of sneakers and a warm sweater. I also stocked up on a few eats too. Yay, Marks and Sparks! I'll be back.

Although I could not find the specific brand/size of milk I was looking for, but they did have alternatives in most areas you would expect. I do think the store layout could be improved, as I did find it difficult to find some items that are generally easier to find at other locations, a lack of staff on the shop members floor to help out was also frustrating. As with all large stores, there is a clothing section, although this does not seem to have been refurbished as recently as the Food Hall. 4*

The menswear department had thinned out and it looked very much like they were in preparation for closing down in 2021. The planning application has already been approved to convert the entire store to apartments. A sad day for Staines being the largest store and I recall working Saturdays in the electrical department managed by London Electricity 30 years ago.

The cosmetics department on the Ground Floor looks smart and has recently been updated, but the further back in the shop you go the scruffier it seems to get. Some of the upper floors also seem a bit scruffy. Sale stock seems to hang around for months and looks very jumble-sale like. Some of the sale clothes look grubby and stained as they've been out on show for so long. I particularly like the Designers at Debenhams section as I have a particular fondness for handbags, but find that the goods in the rest of the shop can be over-priced. Having said that, Debenhams seem to permanently have a sale at the moment which encourages me to shop there a bit more. I haven't ever found the staff in the Staines branch particularly good or particularly helpful. I recently returned something to the store which I'd bought on the Debenhams website and though this is encouraged on the website it turned into a bit of a farce, with the assistant calling the department manager, who had to call his manager and eventually the store manager to find out which buttons to press on the till. All in all, a distinctly average store.
