First of all, I was mistaken for an employee by one of the hoity-toity customers because I was carrying a box. Girl, you know it's because I had dirty sneakers and I was inside a Pottery Barn. Do you really think that they let their employees wear shorts!? She will return later. I was treated so poorly this morning by their employee who had to take my online return. She was just so rude to me for a transaction that should've been very easy and friendly. I was very nice despite being insulted the second I walked in the door because she wasn't an employee just a rude person. Also girl, I worked retail. I know receiving returns against your numbers sucks. But if I'm buying a $200 dog feeder, it better not be broken. Sorry not sorry. And then after she finally process my return that probably should've taken 30 whole seconds, the woman who thought that I was an employee also assumed that I was a difficult customer. I would give this store zero stars if i could. I ordered completely new bedding from them and as you could imagine it was very expensive. I went to make my bed up today and realized they sent the wrong size duvet insert (i received a King instead of the queen size i had ordered). Frustrated, i looked online to see if any stores in my area had the queen size in stock. So i drove 40 minutes to exchange the duvet insert. I began the exchange with Zack, he said that I would need to pay an additional 15$ in store for the tax difference. I explained that i didn't think i should have to pay any additional fee given the fact it was the brands error. He said he could call the HQ for a replacement. So, like 2-3 minutes into his call he verified my shipping address and I said wait I can't leave with the one sitting on the counter? He said no, I have to wait for the shipping because they could not eat the tax difference. I felt as though the customer service and satisfaction could not have been less of a priority. Could i have paid the 15 dollars? Sure. But the principle of making me pay more money for their mistake is asinine. I did call the store after I left to ask to speak with a manager, Randy. And unfortunately Randy was just as unhelpful as Zack. The overall experience makes me want to return the entire bedding order I had placed. i went into the skokie pottery barn this past wednesday. i needed a specific pillow cover. the salesperson said it would be in a shipment the next day and she could mail it out to me. she assured me that someone would call me. no one called thursday so i called. the person said it was not in the first shipment but another was coming in that day and he would call me. he never did. i called at 10:00 am saturday to talk to the original salesperson and i was assured she would call me back. at 10:50 i called again and the woman told me that the salesperson was busy with a customer. i told her i needed to know about the cover or i was going to have to go to the oakbrook store. she said, oh, the cover is here. i said, why didn't you call me??? don't you need my credit card info? she had no response. horrible service and inconsiderate. i guess i'm supposed to be a mind reader.. read more

I ordered a present for my fiancé on the 18 of the month, which were schedule to arrive by the 24th, got a text message that it's been delayed to Monday the 28th and then again today another text message saying it's delaying again to 30 of the month! Called the customer service department, spoke to Felicia from the Las Vegas location who offered to compensate me for $17.00 the delivery fee, because its not their fault...?!?!?! Although the estimate delivery date was between 2-3 business days, not going to order anything else from this place, and also going to cancel my wedding registration with this location! I stopped by Pottery Barn with a friend shopping for someone else. I liked to store layout and wish it was where I lived. Everything clean, organized, bright, spacious and with women who were great-looking and always willing to help you. But seriously, it's a great store for home accessories, from furniture, accent pieces, picture frames and items for most every room of your house. The price point was not too bad. I would say quite moderate for high-quality furniture and home accessories when compared to similar stores in and around Chicagoland. We purchased picture frames which were kind of expensive but were well constructed and looked great! So, if you're looking to outfit your home, Pottery Barn should be a store on your list. I would say the Pottery Barn is one step above Crate & Barrel and it shows by the quality and style of the products. read more

Andrea Niemi was truly remarkable, working with us to find just the right options to help us redo our living room! We were delighted with the Pottery Barn experience, up until the delivery date. The furniture pieces were wrapped in plastic, not cardboard. I asked why and the delivery guys said it was because "the boxes were opened at the warehouse to ensure the order was correct." This was obviously not true, since one of our pieces was the wrong one. The paper work was all correct, but the piece itself was an extra couch end piece instead of a middle piece. The left hand does not seem to know what the right hand is doing here, as we had to separately contact the delivery company, and also contact the Pottery Barn store, and also the Pottery Barn credit card organization. We had to spend time on the phone to get our order straightened out. You would then think there would be some way to expedite the order for a piece made incorrectly like this, but no, our order went to the end of the line. Because we had a large order, we had accumulated Pottery Barn "rewards certificates" which we went back and spent at the store. Once again, the store / credit card company did not process the transaction correctly, and we had to spend 35 minutes on the phone straightening out the latest transaction. Bottom line: When you enjoy ordering something at the store, make sure it is something you can sit on, because you're going to need to be sitting down to straighten out all the rest of the process. read more

The Skokie (Old Orchard) Pottery Barn location is GREAT! It's a 2-story locale, and is beautiful. It's a nice size, so they're able to display a lot of product. The staff was friendly. This place has horrible customer service. In the past 6 month's I have shopped here 3 times. Each time I was in the store there were 6+ employees, and a stock room runner. Not one single sales associate EVER stopped to ask if I needed help. Is this the abercrombie of home stores? Is the policy to leave customers alone...unless, they ask for assistance? I (white guy) walked into the Skokie Location with my gf (phillipino), her two daughters, and our friend (Indian). No more than five minutes into our experience we were approached by a sales clerk (middle aged white female). We were asked if there was anything in particular we were shopping for, to which we answered 'just browsing'. My girlfriend was then told she had to leave bc she had an open coffee cup in her hand. The coffee was entirely sealed. This was communicated to the clerk who then replied drinks cannot be in the store at all. I cannot help but feel we were targeted for being 'less likely to purchase' and perhaps worse, because we were a group of predominately minorities. Reading through other reviews, it appears atleast one other customer has left this store with the sentiment of racist discrimination. Pottery Barn is required by California law to sell furniture with flame retardants that can cause cancer, sterility, thyroid disorders, endocrine disruption, reduced IQ in children, developmental impairment, birth defects, etc., even at very low doses. Like PCBs, these chemicals live a long time and accumulate at the top end of the food chain, i.e. us. I was willing to buy a couch in Oregon and take it to California, but it turns out ALL 50 states adhere to the California standard, so you can't buy a couch without flame retardants in your state, even if you don't have to have these carcinogenic chemicals! You can tell furniture has these chemicals if the label says it meets the California furniture flammability standard. Technical Bulletin 117 (TB117). They remove these posts to yelp every time I post them, so if you're reading this, you won't be able to find it again. Why don't I have the right to buy a sofa without carcinogens? These chemicals don't even work! Fire deaths in states WITHOUT flame retardants declined at the same rate as California over 24 years 560 Americans died in furniture caused fires in 2003, but cancer killed more than 500,000 people. I bet these people would have died anyhow, because these carcinogenic chemicals only delay the onset of fire for 12 seconds. And hello! In Europe cigarettes must go out if not puffed on, why not force cigarette makers to do the same in America rather than make the 80% of us who don't smoke in California, live with furniture full of toxic chemicals, that eventually will be released to the environment to do damage to wildlife as well? You want to know why? It's due to 3 aggressive chemical companies, Albermarle, Chemtura, and Israeli Chemicals Ltd, who spend millions of dollars lobbying the California state legislature. I don't think citizens or one-time-only newspaper articles about this topic have a chance in hell of defeating chemical lobbyists who've spent well over 10 million dollars defeating legislation to overturn the flame retardants in furniture requirement in California. But if everyone tells chain stores they won't buy furniture with flame retardants and orders it from out of state, then Macy's, Ikea, Pottery Barn, Costco, Crate and Barrel, La-Z-Boy, JCPenney, Restoration Hardware, Z Gallerie, and so on will lose money. We need to find corporations to fight the chemical industry, because only another large corporation has the money, clout, money, know-how, and money to counteract the chemical industry lobbyists. Beautiful product. Terrible salespeople and operations. I received the Whitney Desk, which had the top peeling off the week it arrived. It took 2 months and several hours of my time, multiple emails and phone calls, including 2 no-show deliveries to have it replaced. To add insult to injury, the salesperson tried to blame me for her ineptitude, "you photo was upside down." I sent 3 photos (not upside down) and included a description in the email (which I had to send twice). She ordered the wrong part initially and still didn't know what to order after all that. I also ordered a sectional sofa. The once we sat on in the store was one of those that you sink into and don't want to get out of. We received our sectional this week and it feels like you're sitting on a wooden park bench---the polar opposite of what we ordered. It's not like it's not broken in yet---it's not even close to the one we sampled in the store. Once again, we can't find out what the issue is. I spoke with the salesperson, her manager and customer service (who were given the run-around when they called the store to find out who the District Manager was), none of them have been able to resolve this. I also emailed the District Manager, who has yet to respond to my email. At this point I'm downgrading Pottery Barn from a furniture store (where I want to buy everything they sell) to a nice place to go buy candles & potpourri. read more

I am African American and from my many visits to the store, I get the impression that the workers are racist. My fiancée purchased about 12 drapes for a house that didn't fall through and our new place had way less windows so I had to do several returns without the receipt and was given the hardest time. I have items in my house that I bought from Pottery Barn over 15 years ago and to be treated like that is unacceptable. In the future, I'm doing business with anyone except them and their affiliates. OMG the worst experience buying furniture ever! Started out fine - ordered 2 couches and 2 chairs. The sales team was able to get us a nice discount on the order that would for some reason be applied after the delivery of the product. Couches were going to be ready before the chairs and we were told should be no issue to have them delivered before the chairs at no additional cost. We tracked the couches and when we saw that they were at the hub ready for delivery we called about setting up delivery. That took about three phone calls to push to have the couches delivered - the chairs were not going be ready for about 4 more weeks. Couches delivered - check. Well que up the chairs. We ordered them in MAY and knew it would be July before we got them. Well the July date came and went so we followed up. This is where things went completely off the rails. No one could give us answers about the chairs. They were lost somewhere. PB said they were trying to get in touch with the vendor but the vendor was not getting back to them. I kept asking how they could continue to put this back on the vendor and why they were doing business with this vendor - still not taking responsibility for the fact that I was the customer and getting the run around. And when I say run around, we are talking about call after call after call - it went on for weeks. Please keep in mind that PB never offered to do ANYTHING for us NOTHING! The only solution they finally came up with was to pick new chairs that would take another 6-8 weeks. The only chairs that would work for us were more expensive than the original chairs - when I asked them to give me the price of the original chairs they were not able to but could drop the price a bit. About a week after that conversation and this now being 3 weeks after when the chairs were supposed to be delivered, we were told that the original chairs were found. Great - chairs delivered. After inspecting the chairs we found a ding in one of the legs. I reached out to the sales person that helped and got no response. I have made at minimum 5 phone calls and emails asking about the refund we still have not received, the ding in the leg of the chair and asking about the Key Rewards that have yet to hit our account so we can get some accessories. I should not be surprised by the fact the PB was tripping all over themselves to help us when the chairs were lost but now that they have been delivered we have received ZERO customer service and continue to take time out of our lives to receive what we were told we would be receiving - a refund and Key Rewards - on and PS we have damaged furniture! This has been so unbelievably frustrating and makes me NEVER want to do business with PB again. We deserve something from PB for the time we have spent on this and the frustration it has caused...and did I mentioned THEY RECEIVED THEIR MONEY!!!!! And we received furniture eventually that is damaged. I would not recommend doing business here.... read more

They have nice furniture but you may never get it! This review is not about the store but rather, the actual delivery of the furniture. The staff at the store were wonderful. They helped me with the selection and ordering of a sectional and recliner. This is where the positives come to an end. I ordered both items in late August. There was a delay on the sectional which was no problem. Delivery was finally scheduled for 10/24 for both items. On 10/24 during the delivery window, I get a call from Ryder, the delivery company that they lost a piece of the sectional and please allow time to find it. I waited a few hours and called back. This time a different person tells me they can't locate any of it. I call Pottery Barn who says it's probably there just allow time to search. At 5:30pm Ryder calls and says they found it and will deliver everything on Tuesday 10/26. On Tuesday, Ryder shows up with the couch but no chair. I call Ryder and they tell me they've now lost the chair and require 48 hours to find it and would call me. By late afternoon I hear nothing and call both PB and Ryder. There is no update but they say they will call at the end of the day. Never got a call. Today I call and get the same run around. But this time PB tells me since I've already paid for this furniture they will give me a discount and send a credit back to my card. Yay - a discount on furniture I don't have possession of. As of 6:30 tonight - no update. I email PB customer service the situation and the response I get tonight is "we are so sorry - kindly allow 3-5 business days for us to search for the chair". So at this point 48 hours has stretched into nearly 2 weeks. I wish I had read the reviews about PB's delivery service because I wouldn't have taken this risk. Horrible horrible horrible service by PB and Ryder. I would never order furniture through them again. read more

Called to set up an appointment where they come to your home and suggest to you what colors to select in painting your home. They advertise they provide this service for free. They called me and asked me to come to the store and look at paint samples. I told her I could do that anywhere what I needed is someone to come and bring samples to advise what would be best choice for my unit. Again a service they provide for free. She again told me I first have to come into the store to look at samples. Total waste of time which I then just said goodbye. All they wanted was to get me into the store to try sell me stuff. Total false advertising and rude. Forget their advertised home services they are a scam. Ended up contacting a painting company that sends someone who looks over you home and matches up colors. Pottery Barn has a good selection curtains and rod hardware, which is nice because they have the items in stock to take with you, however there are a lot of different parts to coordinate. This store has a manager with quite poor customer service skills. After spending a small fortune here on curtains and their hardware, I discovered that one of the pieces was wrong. I thought it was the wrong piece in the wrong box, but after returning to the store, I discovered that the original sales associate made an honest mistake and sold me the wrong part (curtain rod). Even though it was a hassle drive back to the store, this was not a huge problem, except that the piece I was wrongly sold happened to be an open box item. The manager working with me got very argumentative when I wanted to return the piece I was wrongly sold, because you supposedly cannot return open box items. In the end she let me return the piece, and pay full price for the correct part, but not before getting all riled up and calling me a liar. Even another sales associate who was trying to help could see the situation clearly and was very helpful, but the manager showed that she is obviously in the wrong line of work. After how much I spent here and having to come back to the store for their mistake, you would think I would have been compensated more than just being allowed to return the part they wrongly sold while being treated rudely. read more

General review on Pottery Barn - unfortunately our 'journey' began at this location. The 'Rewards' program creates customer disloyalty. Our customer service rep attempted to use a $700 'certificate' on a $400 order and trash the remaining $300 without notifying us. First off, this is the first 'rewards' program I have experienced that forces 'loyal' members to use up all of the rewards or forfeit the balance. Secondly, even if a company decides to market such an unfriendly 'rewards' program, you need to tell your customers before they literally burn $300 cash. Not cool. They are rude, they make mistakes ALL the time when pulling merchandise from the back (they don't check to make sure they're pulling the correct items!), and they are simply not friendly at all even when they're on the phone. I love PB, but I won't shop at this store again. I made a return from an online order and the associate handling the return was unhappy that the item was not repacked the way it arrived. The item itself was perfectly intact and in the original box, but I could not repack it the way it arrived with the styrofoam and plastic--it was very complicated. She was totally disgusted and shamed me for my return. She said there was no way she could resell the item, which was completely untrue. Ultimately there was nothing preventing her from being able to accept the return, so I did receive my full refund, but it was given very begrudgingly. The various other products I was returning she tried to find fault with as well. In the process of the return she was short, roughly handing me my return receipts and very clearly disgusted with me. I have been in this store before where the customer service has been adequate. And I have had people wait on me that don't seem happy, and the treatment of the customers is reflected in that. read more

This stuff is so overpriced. I bought, among other things, the Buchanan sofa - which has horrible reviews elsewhere (very uncomfortable, bunching of the cushions and fabric - universal in the reviews) I just discovered. Within 2 months I bought something else at another store..after spending like $1400 or more here. Not to mention - I called the store in Old Orchard and literally played phone games with them for 5 months until I got a $250 credit for how bad my sofa is. One person in furniture sent me to another person who sent me to another - and nobody ever called back - and one manager would send me to a manager of customer relations or wtf it is... After about 3 months, I literally made a powerpoint presentation and sent them this - over how disgusting the couch fabric is and that it needs to be refunded in full (which they will not do because it was a custom made sofa). The fabric got permanently stained if WATER got on it (it was very poorly made / cheap velvet...quality velvet does not stain like this). This was the highest grade fabric, by the way - so I paid the most...for crap. They no longer sell the couch in the fabric I bought - so maybe it got through to someone - somewhere... but the months of headaches they caused will not be forgotten and I will never buy furniture there again. All of their furniture is overpriced beyond belief and only average in quality. Even their vases and decorative items are ridiculously priced. I had a bunch of decorative stuff from there and now I realized it was a huge waste of money and I should've just gone to Homegoods and gotten 10x the stuff I got here for the same price. Nice store and the people working here are very helpful. HOWEVER, if you're planning on buying any furniture that you have to order...don't. The customer service line for furniture and the store are not allowed to communicate directly with their manufacturers. I purchased a section in April that was supposed to be "quick ship" (meaning 1-3 weeks for delivery). I have recently been told that it won't be out of production until the end of June and I won't even be able to schedule a delivery until the middle of JULY! This is the 3rd delay I have had on this sofa and the lack of direct communication means that still no one can tell me if it's actually being made yet or that it won't be delayed again. As I am buying a new couch and not replacing an old one, I will be sitting on a hardwood floor for 3 months due to delays. The manufacturers are also not telling the stores about continued delays so any upholstered furniture being purchased now will likely be delayed into September. It's nice stuff, but I'd rather have bought something I didn't like quite as much if it meant I'd have somewhere comfortable to sit after work and wouldn't be embarrassed to have guests over. read more

I think that some of the employees... Mainly the manager Vivian needs a refresher course in customer service or she may need to be reminded that regardless of what her personal feelings towards someone may be the customer still needs to be treated in a respectful manner. I recently purchased a bed that was sold off the floor. When I was first told about the bed I was told it was the entire bed and not just the headboard. Admittedly in my haste when I went to purchase the bed I didn't even pay attention that it was the headboard only. Now Vivian... The condescending, rude manager not only asked some inappropriate questions, but she also tried to insinuate some equally rude things. No big deal I purchased the bed from the salesperson who actually was very nice and apparently had way more class than her superior. I came back the following day to pick up the bed. Once again I had another unpleasant encounter with "The Manager!!!" Once again I didn't even listen to a word she had to say. Now I waited until a few days later before assembling the bed and came to see that I wasn't given any screws to attach the headboard to the frame. I called the store and was told they would leave a message for the manager to call me the following day. I waited until 3pm the following day and I decided to call the store myself. I was told that they were trying "to find" them. My first thought was wouldn't they have extras laying around?? My second thought was are they just rude or do they really not care since the bed was a final sale and so the who cares attitude takes precedence?? It is now 7pm and the store is now closed. My phone call was never returned as promised and so now I go yet another day without being able to assemble my bed. I dread having to hear back from the awfully rude manager or any of her henchman. I understand that Pottery Barn's business will not be effected by my review however being that the Pottery Barn Kids store closed in Old Orchard for whatever reason I think that the employees at Pottery Barn should come down from their high horse and remember treat people how you would like to be treated. read more

The Store has amazing furniture and home furnishings but the employees could not be less helpful. I had a gift card and they told me. That I had to use the whole card at once or I lost the balance. Also if you order something online, you can't return it to the store. After about 15 minutes of discussion they finally called the online store and agreed to send it back for us. The service is about the exact opposite of nordstroms or crate and barrell. read more

Horrible customer service experience with the manager Paula. I had an item on hold last night & was not able to make it in due to one of my children being sick. I called first thing this morning to tell them I would definitely be coming today and she told me they would not honor yesterday's sale price and that there were two other people interested in them. I told her no one mentioned to me this was a one day sale or if I wanted to guarantee the sale price I should pay over the phone to ensure the discounted price. I would have gladly prepaid If I had known it was only a one day sale. She could care less that I had taken the time and effort of calling 5 stores on my own to locate these plates and had waited for them to go on sale & then smugly said, "it doesn't matter, we have other people interested". And to top it off had she had the audacity to end the conversation with, "happy holidays". HORRIBLE customer service for such a wonderful store. From now on will only be ordering online, so I don't have to deal with these rude people! read more
