I was initially hesitant to purchase from here when I read some of the reviews but we decided to check out as their facility is very close to our new home. We really wanted something special so we were looking around... I'm happy we did we were pleasantly surprised by the store and selections. The sales people left us alone and let us look around the store but they did check on us to see if we gad any questions. We got a great table, rug and chairs. The chairs are so comfortable! Buyers be ware. All sales at Domicile are final. They don't tell you that until after you pay. You sigh your credit card receip, and it says on it in small print that sales are final. Who reads their credit card receipts in the store? Not a single sign in the store saying that sales are final. You have absolutely no recourse if the expensive furniture you buy does not look good in your house. When I brought this up with Nadia, she went into a long angry rant accusing me of insulting her. Later I talked to Carl who said that they don't have any legal obligation to inform customers ahead of time that sales are final. Overall, very unpleasant experience. The selection is awesome, the quality of furniture is actually great, and most of all, the service from my go-to salesperson, MAIRA, is honest, helpful, non-intrusive & extremely knowledgeable! I have walked out with beautiful dining chairs, leather sofas, stunning mid-century modern accent pieces, and an assortment of other chairs & benches over the years & continue to get compliments on my home's furnishings coming from Domicile! I've found two really great items in the discount section at the back of the store and one of them, a couch, has lasted almost ten years now with very few signs of wear and tear since I bought it. The regular showroom floor is nice and has some cool stuff but it seems pretty pricey and a lot of it I couldn't imagine bringing home and trying to decorate around, but maybe my tastes just don't match up with what's out in the main room. They have a section just dedicated to chairs too on the second floor that's worth checking out, but again the real worthwhile stuff is in the two back rooms that are discounted. Delivery is a bit expensive but the drivers always seem good and they came all the way to downtown Chicago without charging more or giving me any hassles. read more

TBH this was the last furniture store we visited because I had bad impressions. They used to stock really old and outdated furniture and try to sell them for a premium. Now, they're completely different, and for the better. We searched everywhere else, from lower end (Ashley, Bob's, Art Vans, value city) to mid and high end (Arhaus, West Elm, Crate and Barrel). All the lower end furniture was clearly too low quality and the mid to high end either had too few options or the style was either too generic or too custom. If I'm going to buy furniture and spend thousands of dollars on it, I want it to be unique but timeless, comfortable and durable. Couldn't find such a thing at those chain stores. Then I gave in and decided to give Domicile another shot after all these years, with little to no expectations. To my pleasant surprise, my experience was excellent and I found plenty of furniture that I'm loving and using every day! No longer do they have an insane amount of outdated furniture that is neither here nor there. Rather, they have unique and beautiful furniture (a lot of it mid-century inspired that look very luxurious but timeless). I was blown away by the quality and comfort and designs of their stock. It was so hard for us to choose because we loved so many pieces. And I felt like if I took any of them home, I'd eventually get compliments. But moreover, they simply bring joy when I look at them and sit on them. When you're shopping there, make sure to ask for Maira. She is simply the best. I absolutely hate it when I'm followed around or pressured by sales associates. Maira is different- she'll give you the space to fall in love with the furniture and when you need her she'll be there in a jiffy (this place is huge and I had her running around giving me info about multiple pieces). And when you're ready to check out, she'll make the process simple and quick. If I had a Maira as the associate every time I went shopping, I'd seriously be poor. The delivery process was great as well. They carefully wrapped everything so it didn't get damaged despite all the snow. And they carefully moved everything exactly where I wanted them too, all for a reasonable flat fee. I saw some reviews and photos complaining about the costs. I've bought my fair share of cheap furniture, and I realized that I spent more money on those in the long run, simply because I had to keep buying new ones when they broke. Now, I realized my body is worth more than that. Also, even if you think you can adjust yourself into a chair/sofa that isn't that comfortable or good for you posture, physical therapy isn't cheap either! If you want to get the pieces at more affordable prices, buy the floor models. I did, and I'm loving them. They keep them in great condition, so they look and feel brand new! I'm very happy with my experience at Domicile, and I will definitely be going back when I need to replace my non-domicile furniture. And I will be asking for Maira. read more

I purchased a beautiful wooden table and chairs from Domicile, and it is my favorite piece of furniture! Shopping there was fantastic - the sales people helped me with anything I needed, answered all my questions, and the owner even helped me load my car with other items I bought! The prices were excellent - the dining set was on sale, and worth a lot more than what I paid for it. You can get amazing deals if you shop when they offer discounts! My experience here was amazing. Nadia is so kind and so good at her job. The entire staff was so friendly. Before coming here, I went to 6 different furniture stores; all the furniture looked the same and did not fit my style. I was hesitant to check out Domicile due to so many negative Yelp reviews. A friend of mine (who has beautiful furniture) shops there so I figured I'd give it a shot. There was a beautiful chair that caught my eye. I went home that night and I couldn't stop thinking about it. I went in the next day and was greeted by Nadia. She was awesome. I was hesitant to spend more than I had budgeted for (that dream chair was beyond my budget) so she showed me several different options to meet my budget. She was honest about varying comfort levels of different chairs and took time to understand what I would be using it for and what my style is. I decided to go with the chair that I initially fell in love with and I am stoked! Although the chair was heavily marked down due to it being a floor model, she came through with some additional perks. My experience was pleasant, efficient and easy. We were there on Saturday and liked a small kitchen dining table set for 2. We planned on getting the floor model. So we took down model number and some info came home to get the area ready. Went back the following day, a Sunday during their business hours. However the rep working on Sunday showed very little effort to sell it despite the fact that we were interested in a floor model with a wobbley chair. Until we asked they didn't offer a 10% discount on the floor model. But the unusual part was, we were told that we don't have staff on Sundays so they will give us the dolly, but dont know how to load to the dolly. So basically we should be carrying it from the floor and load it to the car. We just walked out. I will next post this review on Nextdoor. read more

If I can give this store a zero for customer service, I would! Until the store rectifies the delivery issues this review will stay online. We've been buying our furniture from Domicile since they were in Evanston. Everytime, the delivery has been a problem. They should not have their drivers be the one to plan the logistics since they are not capable of doing an efficient job at it. We live less then 10 minutes from the store and they are not capable of delivering a sofa and chair. I've waited 10 days for this delivery and they can't seem to coordinate with the customer. - This is not the first time we've had issues with them on deliveries. I just spoke to the manager Carl and he did not seem to care about delivering our furniture at all. He would not commit to a date. This store does not care about their customers after they make the sale. I would stay away from buying furniture from this store. read more

The furniture ordered wasn't in stock. We were to check in rather than them call us. Then the chairs to the dining set weren't in. The salesperson said they'd have them and deliver at no cost by the end of the week, which he/they didn't do. Nor did we get a call. I later found that a screw poked through the top of the table. I called and he said it'd be replaced. I asked about the chairs, but he was unfamiliar with that. I told him they'll be delivering the set at no cost. After another week, I called back. The salespeople aren't there every day; for some reason they don't offer to call you. I was told to call the shipping company. Did, left a message, missed their call. I just called again and the shipper doesn't have any order for my address or name. So... called Domicile again. Sales guy is off today, but the receptionist or whoever is going to check his files. Otherwise I'm to call back tomorrow. Apparently their phone system is set so they can recieve calls, but can't dial out. Once we have our order complete, our dealings with Domicile will also be complete. read more

Okay, changed my mind. Domicile is not what I thought it was. I was hoping to give it the benefit of the doubt, and then the nightmare began. I ordered my couch on 2/20/10. It was ready on 4/14/10, almost two months later. I schedule a delivery date on today 4/22. I'm given a delivery window of 12-3pm. Perfect! Because my building doesn't allow deliveries after 4:30pm. Except no one showed between 12 and 3pm. I called the delivery guy twice to check the status of my delivery and he didnt pick up the phone. I had to call the store manager to track the guy down. Only then did he call me back. When I told him about my delivery, he admitted that he misfiled the paperwork and didnt know about the delivery. Then he asked why I hadnt called him. SERIOUSLY? We're blaming me now? I told him he had to get to my place by 4:30pm otherwise my building wouldnt let him in. Luckily he made it RIGHT at 4:30pm and delivered and set up my couch within 30 minutes. THANK GOODNESS. I may have to rethink ordering from Domicile. On a positive note though, my couch is awesome! read more

These people are no better than common thieves. I ordered over the phone sight unseen because the manufacturer of the couch I wanted listed them as a retailer. They took my money, did not at any point disclose any 'no refund' policy, and told me the item I wanted shipped in two separate pieces with no instruction to measure ceiling height for a couch. Upon arrival the item was one piece, the delivery person immediately said 'this won't fit' and took it back without trying to get in the door. When I called to ask when I would receive a refund, I was told no refunds and was promised twice that the owner would call. She, of course, never called. Again, these people are thieves. I'm not at all surprised that their other location went out of business. This location will close soon too, as based on many reviews it appears I'm not the first person to be scammed by them in some way. read more

Was there with our 5 and 6 year old on a Sunday. Purchased a table and chairs previously here. Came with an over $3k budget for various pieces. 5 year old needed to use the restroom and they told us they don't have a restroom. In modern America, what kind of store doesn't have a bathroom, let alone for a child to use. Between no AC running and denying a 5 year old from going to the bathroom, we immediately left. I came in and wasn't that impressed. Sure they had some decent things but I thought it was way overpriced! I couldn't believe how much they were asking for furniture being a discounted store. I purchased a Macy's sectional that was half the price they were asking for the exact piece except theirs was smaller! Folks were friendly but I just was met thrilled about the prices and furniture. Depending on your style, go to nadeau or even better, wrightwood furniture or just shop at the actual spot you want to buy furniture (pottery barn, CB2, west elm, Dania, Arhaus, etc). I personally love to browse furniture showrooms, especially when the decor is aimed towards tight urban living - not everyone lives in a 5,000 square foot mansion. Anyway, there's lots of modern, sleek furniture to check out. I haven't actually ordered any furniture from here, but there is a little discount rug shop that is in the warehouse section of the Domicile building. It might be only opened on the weekends. I got a great 4x6 shag rug for under a $100, which ironically enough, Domicile sells for a lot more in the store. read more

I ordered and paid in full the Lombardy sofa by Jonathan Louis from Domicile on 8/29/2020 and was told by Carl (Manager) the delivery time frame would be in the standard 8-12 weeks. Carl mentioned, it would most likely be closer to 12 weeks due to COVID. As the delivery date was getting near, I called for a status update. Every time I called the dates we were getting pushed backed and I received the following excuses for the delay: · No notes in the system will have to follow up with the manufacture · The fabric is on back order · Issue with TNT logistic company · The shipping date got pushed back (frequently used) My call log is showing I called 9x and I was patient to ONLY follow up with Domicile near their volatile delivery dates. Out of the 9x I called, Domicile only followed up once on 12/28 after I finally spoke to a manager (Nadia) and was told my couch was built in November and currently having issues with shipping and l should be expecting it on the week of 1/18/2021. We are now in February 2021, it's a new year, we have a new President and even have a COVID vaccine! But I still do not have my couch! Because I can't seem to get a clear answer of the status of my couch, I decided to visit Domicile on 2/6/2021. I spoke with Carl the manager and he apologized to tell me that the manufacture is experiencing production delays that were not in Domicile control and there is nothing he can do at this time but offer complimentary delivery and wait to call the manufacture during operating hours for more detailed information. Per further inquiry with Carl, he noted the main reason for the delay was because the manufacture (Johnathan Louis based in California) facility was shut down for 10 weeks due to COVID, resulting in increase in order volumes. CA imposed their lockdown/shutdown in March, 10 weeks is May. I purchased my couch in August, Carl should have been more honest in providing more of an accurate delivery time frame at the time of purchase rather than using their standard delivery time frame. I believe Domicile held this information to make a sale and take $1,200 of my hard earn money because a reasonable person would NOT make a purchase knowing that it will take more than 5.5 months (23 weeks) and still counting to get a couch. I do understand production delays can't be controlled by Domicile. However, Domicile should focus on areas where they can control such as periodically keeping their customers informed of the delays and offering solutions. It should NOT be the customer's responsibility to chase down the store for status information. Because of Domicile's lack of transparency & proactive communication, inability to problem-solve and severe lack of empathy towards their customers, Domicile has caused me nothing but frustration and made my living conditions very difficult. I purchased this couch because I moved (Sept) into a new apartment signing a 1-year lease and because of Domicile, literally, half of my lease has been spent without a couch. Do you know how uncomfortable that has made my living situation? I've been using my office chair to watch TV for 5.5 months! On 2/10/2021, Carl called to inform me that they received my couch and Fernando will reach out to me in two days to schedule delivery. This evening is 2/12 and I never received any calls regarding scheduling delivery. Moreover, today is Friday and Carl told me they do not deliver on Saturday and Sunday. So, this means I won't get my couch until next week or will I? I'm not even surprised at this point because this is how Domicile operates. I asked Carl if he was able to talk to the owner of any compensation for the significant 5.5-month delay and I was told there was nothing they can do for me. I even told Carl that I would file a complaint to the BBB because I felt this is unfair from a customer perspective he said "I've done everything I can do for you and I'm sorry. You can do what you need to do". I'm in such disbelief in Domicile and how they have treated me. Everyone wins here except me and nobody is being held accountable. I paid $1,200 for a couch that I haven't received. Spent half of my lease in my apartment without a couch! They have done NOTHING to resolve the situation. What makes this more disturbing is my couch is now in their possession as of 2/10 and they still can't deliver and get things right. This whole experience is been a nightmare. read more

Purchased over 2K worth of furniture only to get it home and realize the table they said was real wood clearly wasn't and was missing a manufacturing bolt. I Called back because I wanted to return it and Katie said it couldn't be returned for cash because it was a floor sample( how would I have known that since there is pretty much no help in the store, but fine)but we could do store credit. Loaded it back in the car drove for 20 miles in traffic to receive a call from her saying they won't even authorize a store credit. The table is cheap! New motto: Yelp twice - buy once. Bear with me through a little stream of consciousness. I really like the television show This Old House. One of the reasons I like This Old House is the mad skillz of one Tommy Silva. In fact, if I was stranded on a deserted island, one of the things I would want with me is Tommy Silva, because I know he could build me an attractive, yet functional shelter in a minute. So anyway, I once heard Tommy repeat the old saying, "measure twice, cut once." And I usually say this in his adorable Boston accent everytime I embark on a home improvement project. However, I should have carried this over to other areas of my life, because if I had read the Yelp review of Domicile I wouldn't be in the position I am now. Because I have been waiting three-months for chairs my mother bought me as a gift that they told me would be in within four to six weeks. And was told last week that it will be another four weeks. Wait, except when my mother called to cancel the order for non-delivery, somehow the chairs are due for delivery within ten days. And the person we've been dealing with is a Lying Liar Who Lies because she told my mom that she already offered me an opportunity to cancel them, which she didn't, and that she has given us a credit for the delivery charge, which she hasn't. I'm very angry, because I really like the chairs, but now I don't want them because I don't want this sucky business to get even a dollar of my mother's hard-earned cash. Liars! If Tommy Silva would loan me his table saw, I would throw it through your front window! So the moral of the story - read Yelp twice, buy chairs one. read more

I seriously wish I didn't have to click on a star for this review. My experience here is just like everyone else's except I will narrate it to detail to give you an idea about what to expect when dealing with the sales team here which consists of a bunch of liars. The ONLY good thing about this place is their furniture selection and unfortunately the other Evanston location is closing or else I would have taken my business there. Their store has a ton of furniture and you can tell the quality is there. However, they do tend to have many items which are missing pricetags. These items are mainly located in the backroom where you can find slightly discounted items. My beef here started when we found a nice matching sofa and chair in the backroom and inquired about the price. We hunted down the sales guy and found Ed Lawrence who tried (albeit not confidently) to tell us the set was $100 off each item compared to the sales floor price ($999 original price of couch on sale for $899, and $599 original price for chair on sale for $499). Just to be sure, I asked him to double check since we really liked the set and he barked, "Oh no I'm SURE about this". Later, back in the showroom we find the EXACT furniture set directly in front of the entrance with a remarkable price tag of $100 less than the price Mr. Ed had quoted us from the back room. I then decide to inquire with the other sales guy who then disappears into the back for approximately ten minutes (most likely after confiding with Salesman Ed) and walks up to us with the original quoted price (that Ed quoted). When it's pointed out to him that there's obviously a mistake since the floor item was discounted MORE than their quoted price from the back room, he walks over to the display, looks at us and quickly pulls a fast one saying "Oh, this is the old price, from the 4th of July sale weekend" and proceeds to pull the sale price leaflet off the item. We were there 12 days after their supposed "sale" ended. That's when we walked out of there.... It's sad that a store with quality furniture is run by a bunch of morons that can't owe up to their own mistakes. The whole principle of doing business is honesty and that's what brings customers back. I am definitely never going back in there. read more

I was so excited after I left Domicile upon purchasing my new furniture. Helpful staff, great selection, qualify products but after they had my money, wow what a terrible experience this has been. I was told when I purchased that it would take probably 4-5 weeks to deliver my new furntiure. It took 8 weeks for one piece and over 11 weeks for the second. Luckily they waived the delivery fee for making two seperate deliveries but I had to insist upon this rather than them suggesting and accomodating their mistakes. OK, I get it, the sales rep over sold me on the delivery time, which was important because i didn't have ANY furniture but to be that far off, "come on man"!! What really upsets me is the sales rep told me that the bed was manufactured in California and that it is better than any competitors because its not made over seas. So if its coming from CA, then it shouldn't take 11 weeks for me to get it, right? When I called, I didn't always get calls back, no one really knew or cared what was going on, no expected delivery dates, no tracking number...pure sketchiness. If you don't mind waiting an extended period, I guess they would be a reasonable choice to do business with, otherwise, I'd stay away from shopping here. read more

If you like waiting months for your furniture to arrive, then by all means, order from Domicile, because they are noticeably cheaper than other stores. What you save in money, however, you will lose in time. I ordered a custom sofa and chair the second week of August. I had just moved to Chicago and had no furniture. I was told 6-8 weeks for delivery. A full 10 weeks later (around Halloween), the furniture was delivered. But, it was the wrong model. The delivery guys checked with the store and offered to leave me the sofa and chair while the order was corrected. That week, I spoke with Kareem (my salesperson) and he said that the factory would rush the order and it would take 4 1/2 weeks. I decided to cancel the order on the chair, but I still wanted the sofa. Kareem never apologized for the mistake, offered no discounts for the mix up, and the store took until December to refund the $600 for the chair. Finally, my sofa was delivered the second week of January. The store said they were going to mail me a refund of $100 because of the time I had to wait. I have never received this check, but I am so tired of dealing them that I don't care any more. I love the sofa, but it wasn't worth the wait. read more

My sentiments echo many of the poor reviews here. Basically the jist of the story is they are very nice to you and helpful in the store and while you're considering a purchase. IF you need any help after that the service goes downhill. I purchased a sectional couch from them less than a year ago and decided to go shopping around at other places to avoid having to deal with their sub-par customer service. I later found out from another furniture dealer that I actually had a choice in fabrics for the pillows that came with my sectional when delivered by the manufacturer; Domicile never even bothered to ask and just threw them the same fabric that I had ordered along with the couch itself. I'll toss in an extra star for their review since they do have a large selection however be forewarned and don't put your expectations too high for customer service. read more

12 weeks (yes, that's three months) since we've ordered a couch, two chairs and an ottoman, and we still haven't heard from the company. I called today to check on our order and they said that the furniture is in, but have no idea when it can be shipped to our place. Really? No idea? I asked to speak to a manager and the manager was conveniently off for the day, but the woman on the phone said I should call back tomorrow. I asked for the manager's name for when I call back and she told me that she cannot tell me, and that I should just call back and then hung up. We were fully prepared to wait the 8-10 weeks we were told, but now it will be over THREE MONTHS since we ordered and have not received even notification of when we MIGHT receive our furniture. I will update my review if my experience with the elusive "manager" tomorrow is any better. read more

Wow...the furniture here is quite nice, and the prices are fairly reasonable, however, the customer service is HORRIBLE!!! I have NEVER been so compelled to flame a company... We ordered two couches, and throw pillows just before Labor Day to furnish an empty living room. Even though one couch was ready in 6 weeks, they waited an additional month to tell us, and make an attempt to deliver them when the second couch finally showed up! Fine. whatever.... Delivery day comes (11/6), and the first couch was damaged! So, back for repairs... It is now 3 weeks since it was taken back to the show for repair, and it is not even close to being done! They are hoping to have it to us before Xmas! 7 weeks for a broken leg - that THEY broke?! It took less than that to make the freakin' couch!! Oh yeah.. the over priced throw pillows... They forgot to order them back in August when we placed the order. After mentioning them in one of my several 'run around' phone calls with the staff, they asked me if I had a photo of what I ordered, since apparently it wasn't on the order sheet and if I could email it to them?! WTF?! Suffice it to say that we'll be lucky to see the pillow before Xmas either since the pillow order did not get placed until 11/19 - 13 weeks after the initial order was submitted! These folks are just HORRIBLE on follow thru! We will go elsewhere from now on, as the savings of a couple hundred bucks is not worth this kind of aggravation. read more

So bought two couches and upon delivery of them we noticed the legs were bowing outward on one of them, called Wini who said she would send out a person to correct the legs this took two weeks. They came "corrected" the legs but it was the frame itself that was bad. We called Wini again who said she could replace it with a new one this took 2 months for delivery! I visited this store during a weekday around 1:00 PM. The place was empty and I was the only customer in the parking lot. I thought, hmm, this is strange. I walked in and the heat hit me like a Mack truck. It had to be 90 degrees in this joint. I figured I could take the heat for a few minutes, so I decided to look around. They had nice stuff, but no one would help me. I passed a group of sitting employees on my way out the door - they didn't even speak to me. Girl bye. Don't go here. It was spur of the moment for us to purchase here and our couch seemed like a good buy but no. Cushions being replaced under warranty in the first year from falling apart. Never buying here again and wishing we didn't. 100% buyers remorse. Let me be explicit : f this place. They are shady and should be out of business. I apologize if this appears twice, as I have never written a review for Yelp. However, this business is so egregious that I finally had to do something. We bought a complete furniture set that was delivered on August 11th. During delivery, one of our couches was ripped. The delivery men knew it was their fault and took responsibility. When we contacted customer service, they said someone would come by "as soon as possible" to either put a new cover on it or give us a new one. That was August 11th: It is now October 18th. My wife has contacted them every other week during this time in which they always place blame on a 3rd party vendor that they outsource for this job. What they can't seem to possibly understand is that this reflect poorly on them because they CHOOSE to do business with this 3rd party vendor. They've never remember us once when calling and we have to explain it every single time. In short, buy your furniture somewhere else. This place doesn't care about service or their product. Wow as I read other comments, I realize a lot of people have had an extremely poor experience with the same people! That speaks volumes. Pros: - big selection Cons: - overpriced - bad quality - took 4 months to get cushion replacements (please note there's another person below my post who had the same issue and had to order cushion replacements the same year - didn't have this problem at other stores) - inconsistent policies (each staff person will give you a different explanation of their policies especially related to warranties) Staff to Avoid: - Nik: extremely rude, hostile, incompetent, scatter-brained, unfamiliar with own store policies, disrespectful - Nadia: unresponsive to emails, poor follow up - Wini: unresponsive to emails, isn't clear on their own policies - both Nadia and Wini are managers, so if the managers are clueless it speaks volumes to the issues you'll encounter in this store - I also (like the post below) asked to speak with the Owner, and Wini said they don't give out that information DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME AND ENERGY, YOU'LL FIND BETTER QUALITY AND SERVICE AT ANOTHER STORE. YOU'LL END UP SPENDING A TON ONLY TO NEED REPLACEMENTS WITHIN MONTHS. read more
