I enjoy the early morning stroller walks with my granddaughter because during the weekdays there is no charge to enter and park to walk the trails. There are multiple area for both child play under a covered playground and a covered area for adults to use the manual workout machines. The wide open space is great for horses to get a nice ride and to rinse off at the watering areas. The lakes and streams are filled with wild life that is indigenous to the area. Just taking a walk and listening to the sounds of nature is truly calming. On the weekends this county park gets very loud and crowded but because the park is so massive, there is always a place to relax.

The night kicked off with a workshop by Kelli Whitney, the Parks Manager/Naturalist, called "Rules of Attraction: Attracting Moths for a Closer Look." Kelli's presentation was absolutely captivating, her energy and depth of knowledge about moths made the whole session engaging from start to finish. You could tell this is someone who genuinely loves her subject. After the workshop, naturalists set up equipment (lights, sheets, and some clever "potions") to lure moths in for viewing. It was fascinating to see the techniques lepidopterists actually use in the field, and knowing the observations contribute to real research on moth populations in protected areas made it feel meaningful, not just fun. This is a great event for all ages, and I'd recommend it to anyone curious about nature or looking for something a little different to do on a summer evening. I'm already looking forward to the next one!

Keep in mind there's some areas that are totally clear of trees so it definitely gets hot during midday.
