Metro Run and Walk is a local store that supports the local runners. The staff is great; they all are runners so I definitely trust their opinion. Plus, they know or have tried several of their products and will tell you their thoughts on them. I've gone to Metro Run and Walk for shoes and running clothes. Great experience each time! read more

This store seemed wonderful during my visit. The person helping me did the same personal evaluation that others have mentioned. He pointed out one issue that I had not been aware of previously and directed me to three options for shoes. I tried them on and each of them felt a little "off". I should have listened to my gut and asked for a do over evaluation or for some more shoe options, but I did not. After purchasing a pair of shoes and running in them for a little over a week, my feet were nearly ruined. I cannot blame the salesperson completely because I should have listened to my gut, but after having been evaluated by several other stores, none of them have mentioned the same issue the person at Metro "found" on me. I have not been back. read more

Last month I joined Ultimate Results a personal training and weight loss center near old town alexandria. Now mind you metro run and walk is no where near where ultimate results is located. But the owner (mustafa nazary) insisted that I visit metro run & walk. He told me that he always sends his client to metro run and walk because of how knowledgeable they are about footwear. So I did, not only I had a great experience, I also LOVE my new running shoes. I highly RECOMMEND Metro Run and Walk to anyone who want to get a great pair of running shoes that fits and very knowledgeable staff. Some one from Metro Run should thank Mustafa Nazary from Ultimate Results, he praises how great your company is to all his clients. Hey I am so happy, I lost almost 20 pounds since I start working out at Ultimate Results and running 3-4 times a week!!! read more

Great attention to detail, my best "shoe fitting" experience to date. My feet haven't ever felt this good in running shoes. Thanks, Mark!

This was my first time shopping at Metro Run and Walk and actually my first time ever receiving assistance in purchasing running shoes. I am a beginner runner just starting out so I wanted to make sure I had professional help picking a good shoe for me. John assisted me in getting a great pair of shoes. He first assessed what type of shoe I would need, observed me walk and jog (first in my socks, then in 2 pairs of shoes he picked out for me), and then asked me a lot of questions to make sure I got a great pair of shoes. He was very kind and patient with me and he was obviously knowledgeable about shoes. He helped me pick up pair I never would have considered (I usually buy Reebok, Nike, or NB. He chose both Brooks and Saucony for me to try). Also, for those with kids, they have a small play area with an art easel, books, and various toys. It kept my 2 and 4 year olds happy until I was done shopping! It was a positive first experience and I'm sure I'll be back! read more

I am a determined wannabe runner with hardware in my foot from a previous surgery. It is extremely difficult for me to find a running shoe that doesn't hurt my foot. Thank goodness the staff at Metro Run & Walk very patiently analyzed my situation and found the perfect shoe for me. They are knowledgeable about their inventory and are very helpful in their suggestions. I also found their prices to be competitive with other running stores as well as online sites. Highly recommend. read more

Richard fitted me this morning, and it was such a pleasure! Every shoe that he pulled would have worked well for me. He was very attentive to what shoes I had worn in the past and my preferences, and after a little shopping around I ended settling on something that had worked for me in the past. In my previous experiences, some stores can be very judgemental of brand and how they think a shoe should feel, but Richard was reassuring that your feet will know when you've found your right fit. I will definitely recommend to friends and family! Thanks again!! read more

My daughter runs track and cross country. I only know how to tie the shoe laces - I have no idea what is the best shoe for her sport or style of running. I've been to many shoe stores and the staff were of various levels of experience but seemed determined to upsell. Metro Run and Walk has experienced staff that try to fit customers in the best shoe for their sport and running style and will also point out discounts that may be available. We will shop here from now on! read more

Love love love love love this store. As most of the other reviews said, the staff was very knowledgable about recommending the right shoes for our feet and activity (running for me, elliptical for my mom). They were patient and thoughtful, bringing new shoes based on our feedback. We both walked out with a new pair of shoes that we are very excited to wear. Further, they have a great selection of gear. Lots of different brands of running watches, as well as running gear (for your phone, etc.) Most impressive: Their sock wall! So amazing - so many wonderful types of different socks! I bought a couple of those, too. This store is family-owned, which gets 5 stars in my book. Will be buying from here from now on, no question. read more

I went to get new shoes on Tuesday. As always, the staff is friendly and willing to help. John assisted me this day. He took the time to study my walk/run and measured my foot. He then brought out four types shoes to try on. The first shoe I tried on fit great and was the shoe I ended up buying. I would highly recommended Metro Run and Walk to by your shoes or running needs. Also as I was checking out, John went the extra mile to tell me to ice/evaluate my foot (I have/had a stress fracture). I appreciated the extra touch to my visit. read more

Really great run shop. While the selection is limited, I highly recommend this place for experienced runners. Like most experienced runners that compete is long distance runs like marathons and half marathons you get the usual treatment by vendors while visiting expo's when you're there to simply pick up your bib. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY! Visit Metro. They have everything you need without the hassle. I stopped in today looking for a running belt. I was immediately greeted, allowed to try some one, and lastly was asked about my previous experience running to better suit my needs. After talking to the staff I was tour-guided to the right belt. They even have a program where you can rent a Garmin for two weeks before you commit to buy. If you don't know anything about Garmin, they are stupid expensive running watches, that some features are not necessary even for experienced marathoners like myself. See if the the demo guys at Garmin's stand at you next expo do that! read more

Why is it posted as closed today. I called and it is open at noon. This is very misleading. I'm glad they are open.

Stopped in to be fitted for shoes while in the area for work. Helen was excellent, took plenty of time to make sure I had the right shoe. While her knowledge was enough to make me want to be a repeat customer; while there I was witness a random act of kindness, her helping a man that had fallen on tough times with the only condition of him "paying it forward"! Please, if you are I the area, support this local small business! read more

This is one of the smaller running stores in the DC area, but that's not really a bad thing. The owners and staff are all incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, and they make an effort to stay engaged with the local community through event participation. If you are looking for a genuine shoe fitting that you know is not based on a commission, Metro is an excellent choice. They also have a decent selection of apparel, nutrition products and other running accessories. And they always have a rack or two dedicated to clearance items. My only complaint is that they don't carry any racing flats here (they do carry spikes for the local high schools though). read more

Glad the store carries Balega socks. They are the best. Wish they carry bombas socks as well. Nice store layout . Easy to shop.

Wonderful staff are at Metro Run & Walk. My dude and I came by a while ago to get insoles for his flat feet and I recently stopped by to pick out a high impact sports bra (which, by the way, is awesome and the best I've ever owned.) On both occasions the attending staff member patiently listened to individual needs and helped to find the right fit, providing truly personalized service. You rarely get this kind of service anywhere else, this place is a gem. read more

I had a great experience here. The folks KNOW running shoes, and I have been happily wearing my new pair for several months now. I'll definitely go back when it's time for a new pair. read more

Very helpful and knowledgeable staff. Took the time to determine what is causing my ankle pain instead of just selling me something I don't need. read more

I found just the opposite experience! I was greeted by experienced folks who were more than helpful and experienced. I was not rushed and was properly fitted with some great shoes. The 'teenagers' were very knowledgeable, pleasant and more than willing to spend a lot of time with me. I never felt rushed and was confident that I was well fitted for my shoes. I'll be back and have recommended to a lot of friends. They are also huge breast cancer supporters...very nice to see their 'giving back' programs! Kim read more

Absolutely amazing! Was greeted right when we came in the door. I walked up and said I need new running shoes and explained my issues with my current shoes. They watched me walk and run and then gave a few pairs to try and test out on the sidewalk. Couldn't be happier! Originally went in for just me and my wife ended up getting appear too! Everyone was very helpful and not pushy at all! I will definitely be going back when I wear these shoes out! read more

Went in search of a comfortable pair of shoes for my daily 3-4 mile walks, as my Nike's were just not cutting it anymore. Richard listened to my requirements, watched me walk the carpet with my bow legs and pronation, and brought several shoes to test drive. I walked away in comfort and my feet, knees, and back have been enjoying the Saucony Redeemer's. It is nice to know there are still stores around with knowledgeable, helpful sales people. Check them out if you care about your feet! read more

If I could give negative stars I would. From the instant I walked in the door it was clear that I was not welcomed. No one helped me until everyone around me was greeted and helped, and when I did receive the what would be called service, the woman attending to me was very standoffish as I disagreed that I wasn't the size she was trying to push on me. I love giving good reviews but this place deserve the truth to be told. Don't waste your time. I'm reading reviews that says your employees asked what the foot issue was and proceeded to find them the right shoe. No one asked me anything as I stood waiting I had to use my best judgement to figure out the shoes that would be a good fit for me. Again it was as if I was not welcomed. Can you disputed the fact that not even you the owner asked me what kind of shoe I needed and and assessed my feet. read more

I went there to get a heart rate monitor and to view the most updated version of the running shoe I currently use and the customer service here is fantastic. Everyone in the store is extremely knowledgeable on all aspects of running apparel. They are extremely friendly and informative. I would highly recommend this store to anyone interested in running. They will carefully measure your shoe for feel and size and watch you run in them. read more

John and Mike are very knowledgable, helpful, and friendly. Gave me great advice and a walk gait analysis with no strings attached. I heard about Metro Run & Walk during a 10k and will be happy to go back. read more

I first came to metro run walk because my daughter is involved in a running program thru her school and I had a coupon here. I honestly had never heard of this place before. I'm so glad I had that coupon! Bailey was great getting my daughter fitted for shoes, which isn't easy considering she is a very excitable 9 year old! We left with the shoes and a few other small items. 2 weeks later I realize my shoes are no longer working for me. Off to MRW for my shoes. I can't remember the gentleman's name, but he was so very patient trying to get me fitted. I think we ended up with 10 pairs of shoes on the floor?! I have very wide feet & too narrow of a shoe makes my toes go numb. I ended up going with the same shoes my daughter had gotten! I ran with my new shoes as soon as I got home & they were amazing! No numbness or pain in my toes. I'm a fairly new runner, but I do plan on staying with MRW for all my running gear. read more

I went into Metro Run & Walk worried that I wasn't going to be able to find a shoe that is good for the type of exercise that I'm doing (circuit training and elliptical/bike type cardio) since I'm not a runner, but was pleasantly surprised when I found a great shoe that has solved all of my previous foot, shin and knee pain! Bruce assisted me in finding a good fitting shoe that provided enough support for what I needed and he was great. He had me try on a handful of different shoes and saw how my foot moved as I ran in them to help give me a really good opinion on what shoe he thought would be best for my needs. In addition to the great staff, the pricing was very reasonable, especially compared to other large footwear retailers where you get no assistance or guidance! I definitely plan to continue to shop there in the future and would recommend it to any friend looking for a new running/work out shoe. read more

My husband and I have purchased running gear and shoes here and have kept coming back. Folk who work in the store are knowledgeable and if you have any kind of question about gear they have the answer! We like to shop at local businesses like the hometown welcome feeling + all the running knowledge there!! read more

I love this store because it is more than a shoe/equipment store. The new owners have not only help to build up a new running community, but they give back to the local springfield community. They also offer some low priced and FREE clinics throughout the year. While the store does not carry my particular brand of running shoes, they have fit me for inserts and snow/cold running gear. Because they are so convenient, I can pop in quickly for goo or other supplements. read more

I can't say enough good things about this place. Some of the best customer service I've received -- as other reviewers mentioned, I got a very accurate assessment of the way I move my feet when I run. I've had this evaluated before at another running store, but it ended in a pair of not-very-comfy shoes. This time, my outstanding salesperson, Suzanne, seemed to have a better eye for this, because she selected some great running shoes for me. They had a nice selection of shoes and Suzanne was able to find me a pair that felt perfect. There was no pushiness in the buying process, which is good because I really get uncomfortable with pushy salespeople. It was a great experience and I even received a thank you note the next day! I'll be going back. read more

Richard and Bailey were simply superb during our recent visit to MR&W. The service and personal attention to detail to our respective running shoe needs was second to none. Love this store and will never go anywhere else to be fitted for running shoes. Their employees know their stuff. They also have a great program on running form that is completely free! I learned a lot from attending. I just wish my schedule allowed me to join one of their running groups. I also like this joint because it is a locally owned business, and I try to support that when I can. read more

I don't know if they have something against Asians because as I walk in, no greeting or acknowledgement, as the man was helping another lady, I noticed how friendly he was to her. One gentleman didn't even ask if I needed help or " I'll be with you", while the other who just finished helping the lady out didn't even say one word. I felt like I was the sales person initiating with hi how are you, I need a 7 2E brooks, he retorted with attitude 7 what?! I repeated three times and he said oh you mean size?! How long have you worked there? Of course I meant size. I was very disappointed as I drove quite a long way to get here because I had such amazing service a year ago. They did not have my size and didn't ask if I needed help with anything else with a body language of disgust as if I was an annoying fly in the room. Extremely dissatisfied is an understatement as I paid hundreds of dollars as a loyal customer over the years. Not that you care but you lost a loyal customer! read more

What a great resource for all things running. The owner and staff are helpful, knowledgeable and professional and they have some really great products and prices too. My physical therapist recently advised me to find a pair of athletic shoes that provided more support than those I had been using. At my wife's suggestion, I went to Metro Run & Walk in Springfield. I was very impressed with the selection, and was particularly pleased with the great assistance and recommendations provided by Hayley Russell. She was very friendly and personable, and was extremely knowledgeable. I ended up buying a pair of Asics along with some inserts, and I am very pleased. They are very comfortable, and do in fact provide more support. read more

I can't say enough positive things about this store. I am fairly new to running and had some trouble with my running shoes lately. I tried going to another local store but unfortunately they were non-responsive. As soon as I walked into Metro Run & Walk I was greeted. Then a very nice gentleman named John took a great deal of time to fit me with proper running shoes. He explained why I was having trouble and how a few tweaks would hopefully assist. I am so thankful a month later to say I have no more foot pain and am able to run further and enjoy it. If you are looking for running or walking shoes from people who care and at a good price I can't recommend Metro Run & Walk enough. There customer service is literally beyond compare. Keep up the amazing work! read more

I cant tell you how thankful I'm to this store...I'll always wanted to run a half-marathon but when I reached week 4 of my training, I started having a throbbing pain in my knee (runner's knee) and it posed a serious threat to my training and my marathon dreams..I'd purchased a new shoe and was not sure what was causing the pain..I'd tried the knee straps , strength training exercises etc and decided to stop by the store to see what the experts had to say...It took the salesperson only 10 secs to say that I was wearing the wrong shoe..She helped me very patiently find the right one and once I tried the shoe, I could myself tell the difference..The people at the store know their stuff and I thank them for helping me pursue my dream...I would recommend this store for serious runners and for anybody else trying to find the right shoe based on how they walk...Double thumbs-up to the store. read more

I have been a runner for over 20 years and have purchased over 25 pairs of running shoes from well over 15 different running stores around the country. Two months ago, I visited Metro Run & Walk and experienced a completely different approach to purchasing shoes. From the moment I walked into the store I was friendly greeted by a very knowledgeable staff. They allowed me to walk around the store and view the shoes and only approached me once it was obvious that I had decided on a few brands to try on. This is where the unique experience comes in, I was not asked about my shoe size, instead I was asked to sit down and they measured my foot...which turns out to be about a half size LARGER than I thought. Than I was asked to walk and run, while the sales associate watched my form. The experience was very similar to going to a physical therapist...which I had been to earlier in the week. Next, I was asked about my running routine (where I run, how often, distance, etc). After my the overall analysis was completed, suggestions were given to me at this time on shoes that would work best for me and my needs. Metro Run and Walk outfitted me with the best pair of running shoes that I have EVER had, which has allowed me to shave off 35 seconds from my mile per average run. I really appreciated the LISTEN than PRESCRIBE approach that Metro Run and Walk uses. I would recommend this store to anyone! Thank You. read more

I have been to Metro Run and Walk several times for different items. On each occassion I have found the staff very knowledgeable.
