Foot scanning machine
Katlyn H.

I had seen Potomac River Running when walking around Reston Town Center, but I assumed the store was just for runners. I heard good things from others, so I decided to finally give it a shot. They start you off by using this machine to get your foot measurements. Then they give you recommendations based on the measurements. I tried on 5 different pairs of shoes and I found the perfect new shoe. If you are a runner, they have treadmills so you can run and they film your feet movements. They also have an assortment of clothes to choose from. I'm so happy I decided to go in store to get my shoes instead of just buying a pair off Amazon.

Visited the stores in both Reston and Ashburn. Managers are all super and so are the employees. Tried out orthotics and went from super feet to currex. Hope these work. In Ashburn you can get up on the treadmill and they will measure your stride before you buy. Great selection of insoles, sneakers and shoes. Not the cheapest but you do receive great service.

I own running shoes now. Real ones. That cost more than a hundred dollars. And I walked out of here feeling -great- about the investment in my taking the first step toward training for the Yelp triathlon relay later this year! At Michele D's recommendation, I popped in here after running a few doors down to return a gift scarf at BR. All the reps looked like they were busy working with other customers, so I browsed the shop for a little bit, scoping out the various apparel and running gadgets (water bottles, sport packs, pedometer-thingamajigs) in this little shop. Eventually, I made my way back up front and was helped (by who I later discovered was a Saucony brand rep). The most fascinating part of being fitted for shoes here is that they have a treadmill in a store, with a live video camera pointing at it from behind, so you can see the back of your shoes on a TV screen above your head as you jog. The employees here dissect your gait and explain what they're looking for, point out rolling (pronation?) and then clearly explain the various options of shoes, and pick one of the three for your type of foot: floppy, supportive, or super-rigid. And, uh... no... those aren't the official names. I'm not a real runner (yet?), so I don't recall them off-hand. Regardless, my measly semi-arches require the support type of shoes, and I then got to sample three different brands of support shoes. Nike, Asics, and Sauconys. I immediately ruled out the Nikes upon putting them on. They had this weird bump under my foot - apparently it's called a tarsal lift or something like that. Meh. Both Asics and Sauconys were equally comfortable, and my salesperson had me put one of each on my feet and walk around. I ended up picking the Saucony's because of their fit. I think it might be the first time I've ever selected a pair of shoes -without- paying any attention to their aesthetic in my life. At no point did I feel rushed or pressured. The folks that work here seem to all be super-avid runners, themselves. The gentleman who later helped me out with shoe selection had actually run the same triathlon that we signed up for, and provided some general tips and guidance. Who knows, maybe we'll end up running into the PRR folks, since the owner(?) coaches for Team In Training. All I know is... with this kind of financial investment in my well-being (and the health of my lower joints), I damn well better be motivated to kick my rear in gear. And now I feel well-equipped to do it!

Todd and Chris were awesome and fitted me with the perfect shoe for running, the gym and casual wear. They know their stuff and were super friendly. I also like that they keep records of your purchases so you can easily figure out what shoe to buy based on previous shoes. Won't go anywhere else for running gear!

I recently attended the leggings swap event at Tyson's Corner, like the other reviewer. I received…read moreseveral emails/texts about the event and so I registered, while noting the #s in my party. We got there at 10AM (when it started) but entered through the Macy's entrance. When we got to Athleta, there was already a huge line snaking its way inside the mall, they must have entered thru a main mall entrance. While I agree with the recent reviewer that the lines were organized, but while waiting in line, some people said THEY didn't register and were sent emails advising, they could come on over, without registering. To make matters worse, after waiting 2.5 hours and having multiple employees come to the line and take counts, when we got to the front of the line to exchange the old leggings for the new ones. We were told "it's over, we only had 500 and we ran out". That's it, no apologies, no warning they were running low, nothing, just a dismissive go away attitude. So infuriating! They still had leggings on the table and after asking, they said they would offer a 20% discount, if we exchanged leggings and with a purchase. How dare them! No thanks, I could get that any time, without waiting 2.5 hours. There was also still a big line behind us. What a joke! What was the point of pre-registering if everyone could just show up? And what was the point of having several employees do a count? They seemed to be lacking in their counting skills since their numbers were way off. Although the idea was noble and good, the execution of the event was terrible. Shame on Athleta!

Bergen came back to check up one in the fitting room asking me how the pants fit and I asked if you have a petite and she brought me a petite size. Estelle did not go above and beyond.
