I really wanted to like Girl & the Goat, but unfortunately the food felt incredibly repetitive. If…read moreyou like sesame seeds, soy sauce, oil, jalapeños, and lots of nuts, you'll probably enjoy it because those ingredients seemed to make an appearance in almost everything we ordered. The same flavors showed up on the steak, the beets, the cornbread, and even the aguachile. There were also so many nuts incorporated throughout the dishes that it became difficult to appreciate the individual ingredients. To be fair, it's not that these flavor combinations were necessarily bad. The problem was that they were used so heavily that they completely overshadowed the actual food. If I order steak, I want to taste the steak. If I order beets, I want to taste the beets. Instead, everything seemed to be competing with the same strong combination of salty, oily, spicy, nutty, and sesame-forward flavors. I can appreciate creativity, but when every dish has such similar toppings and seasonings, the meal starts to feel one-note. Given the reputation of the restaurant, I expected the individual ingredients to shine a lot more.

I didn't think this was possible, but the food was even better on our second visit!…read more We had the peanut appetizer (badam sodheko), the tingmo, and the thakali bhojan with bhatura. The badam sodheko had a very interesting flavour - the horseradish gave it a flavour unlike anything I've tasted before. It was a very heavy dish, especially for an appetizer, and I'm glad I had a dining partner to share it with. The tingmo shone because of the spicy tomato sauce. The sauce was bold, perfectly seasoned and light. We asked for a second serving of the sauce because we liked it so much. The bhatura was one of the crispiest bhaturas I have ever had the pleasure of trying - it paired especially well with the aloo from the thali. All the dishes in the thali were delicious, from the dal to the kheer. We received a complimentary gajar ka halva. It was incredibly creamy and decadent. The woman who served us was friendly and warm. She made sure we were well taken care of, and repeatedly checked in on us. The ambiance was simple but clean. This was one of my best meals in Chicago. I hope to keep returning to Sherpa kitchen during my time here!

The staff is super friendly, and the service was quick, which is always a plus. The beef birria tacos were stacked and loaded with cheese and perfectly crispy. The consommé was delicious too, super flavorful and not greasy at all. Loved the orange sauce !! We also grabbed the El Michelin ribeye tacos, along with some rice, beans, and an horchata to wash it down. That horchata was on point ,not too sweet, just perfect. They've got a few protein options, so I'm definitely coming back to try more. Can't wait for my next visit!

Nice and tender meat very cheesy! Comes with a delicious consume that's not greasy at all and limes on the side. Their pinto beans were good. They had a different flavor that I'm used to. It wasn't really heavy on cumin or onions and garlic, but still delicious. Now the star for me was the strawberry Horchata very creamy delicious not overly sweet. Soooo goood! You get two different sauces. The green one has some spice! Now they offer steak tacos with avocado which are good (they have another name for them but I forgot)! Was treated to the lentil soup which was smooth, not too heavy on the tomato, and a slightly minty - a delicate flavor. I had the Sampler 4. The best falafel I have ever had. The eggplant salad was smokey and a bit like baba ghanoush. The shakshuka was slightly spicy. The ezme was slightly carmel flavored. The dolma were tender and tasted of lemon and mint. My husband enjoyed the manti, small dumplings filled with ground beef. For dessert, we had a delicious cup of tea that they blend in house. And kunefe, which is made from finely ground filo with cheese in the middle, fried and topped with simple syrup and chopped pistachios. Truly outstanding. The owner and staff were attentive and kind. At noon, they unlocked the door, no hello or greeting - just straight behind the counter and to the kitchen for us to order at the screen in the front. The screen was filthy (they just opened as a reminder) we couldn't tell what was in the 'combo' and then when we were going to order the boneless chicken wings, as they were gluten free when we ordered them years ago, I asked one of the women in the kitchen to confirm. She said no, I don't think so. And walked away without any further guidance for what I might be able to eat on their menu. It's not a preference, it's a dietary restriction - so we walked out from there. They clearly had no interest in helping me or our business. A real disappointment after driving 30 minutes out of our way to try and enjoy it.
