Candied Yams, Homemade Mac & Cheese

I came in to try this spot after seeing it pop up on Uber eats. They have a vast menu of southern food and they definitely have some gooood comfort food. I ordered to-go but there is seating if you want to eat in the restaurant. I ordered the fried catfish entree with macaroni and yams. All of their entrees come with two sides and cornbread. The cornbread was delicious, and the fried catfish was fried perfectly! The employee who took my order was attentive and helpful. Once I ordered I waited about 10 minutes and my fresh fish was ready to go! I would definitely come back to try the pizza and the ribs.

The food here is absolutely incredible. You can smell the deliciousness the moment you walk through the door. I ordered oxtails, mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, lemon pepper wings, jerk chicken, and rice and beans. Every single dish was outstanding. The oxtails were fall‑off‑the‑bone tender, and each side was packed with flavor. The staff was warm and welcoming, and you can tell they work well together, creating such a positive atmosphere. I will definitely be coming back. This place is a true hidden gem and wonderful addition to Astoria's restaurant scene.

They were so disappointing and not worth the money. I have now been here twice, once in February and most recently in September. The Southern-style Cajun food looked so awful that I just ended up getting some slices of their pizza. In addition, I ordered a coffee with milk and sugar, which was so watered down that I couldn't finish it. The restaurant itself is not clean. The tables were dirty, and the appearance was more like a grubby deli than a decent eatery. I will not be back -such a lack of effort was on full display, even allowing a large dog into the dining area which no one complained about.

    Kick ass oxtail!

First time take out order and we were so absolutely pleased. I got the Oxtail pizza slice, which was crispy and yummy. It hit all the right cravings. 100% recommend. Originally, hubs wanted pork chops but they ran out so he got the quarter rack bbq ribs and our daughter got the fried chicken. The meat fell off the bone and the fried chicken batter was chock full of flavor. So very well seasoned. They both opted for Macaroni and Cheese and Potato salad as their sides. Both solid and very tasty. The Mac and cheese was creamy and definitely homemade. None of that boxed stuff. Corn bread was on point and they loved the biscuits! I was going to try but my husband said it had a baconesque flavor and so I decided against it in the event they are made with bacon fat. I chose many years ago not to eat pork so my loss, I guess. They really enjoyed everything, as did I and I'm so glad their Instagram post jogged my memory and pushed me to order as I totally forgot they opened up. Bonus! They sent along a complimentary slice of pie and a piece of cake, which were AHHHHMAAAZING! Sadly I didn't take any pictures. We were all so hungry we just dug right in. Highly recommend. Food is delicious. Price is right on point!

Very kind and friendly staff, a bit scattered but attentive and friendly. The price for the portions was very reasonable. The items were packed to go with care. There is a very extensive array of items on the menu. Unfortunately the food was very disappointing, despite looking promising. Wish it were otherwise. The whiting itself was very dry and had the chemically taste some frys have depending on the supplier. Good amount of breading, not too much. No tartar sauce. The mac and cheese was ok, much more oily than ideal. The greens are marinated in sugar which is far less common than savory, therefore wish they were labeled as such. The biscuit was dry and overworked, with the only flavor being that of flour. Overall the food seemed haphazard and kind of just put together vs. tried and true recipes and techniques executed with care. Suggest trying other things on the menu besides these items if they interest you, and hope they suit you.

Jerk tacos supreme! Mac and cheese was so good. Prices are a good value for the taste and quality. Long live Pot Liquor n Cornbread.

Amazing food, I'm obsessed with the catfish! The service was also lovely, didn't feel transactional.

Really great authentic food!…read more There aren't many Guatemalan food spots in Manhattan so Tikal is definitely a gem. Yummy, home cooked, family vibes is how I would describe the food and the restaurant. The owner is also very friendly and service is speedy! We had the chicken en pulique and the chicken was so incredibly moist and fall of the bone tender. The tortillas also seem fresh and handmade which is amazing as well. I loved the cuchito. The empanada is very nice in that it's different from the typical wheat empanadas you see in NYC since it is made of corn. The loroco pupusa is something I would definitely come back for too. Essentially, everything was delicious!

We ordered tacos with beef and some with pork. They were delicious! The grilled skirt steak was fine if you like your steak well done. For those, like myself, who prefer steak medium rare, it was a disappointment. The chicken entrée in a creamy sauce was a highlight. The mixed green salad was unfortunately mostly iceberg lettuce. The sweet plantains were exceptionally tasty, and despite being fried, they were not too greasy. The black beans were prepared differently than we expected in that they were sort of mashed up and very thick rather than whole beans served in a bit of sauce. Nevertheless they weren't bad. The shrimp ceviche was outstanding! Try Tikal - you'll like it!

We also found out they have $9 frozen margaritas on Sundays, so of course we had to try them. They were strong and really good! For dinner, I had the shrimp mofongo, and my boyfriend ordered the steak and eggs. Both dishes were flavorful, cooked perfectly, and exceeded our expectations. We had such a great experience and will definitely be back. Highly recommend!

Here's a balanced review that includes your additional context:…read more I've been to Inca Paisa before, and unfortunately it has never been my first choice. The only reason I return is because it's my grandmother's preferred restaurant since she lives nearby. We arrived around 6:20-6:30 p.m. There were plenty of open tables, but we weren't seated until much later. During that time, the male waiter seemed more concerned with other tasks. He was seating a woman whose party of six hadn't yet arrived, going back and forth to the kitchen, handing out receipts, and collecting menus. After all of that, he finally approached us--not to seat us--but to ask, "How long are you going to take?" I replied, "Sir, we're here to eat." He responded that the side tables were for people watching the game. I explained that we were there to dine, as this is a restaurant. Even after we were seated, he avoided our table completely. He took the order of a table that had been seated after us while we continued waiting. About 20 minutes later, a female waitress noticed we had not been helped and took over our table. She was attentive, professional, and the only reason we received service. After placing our order, we waited about an hour for our entrées. The food was also underwhelming. The Papa a la Huancaína came with an excessive amount of sauce and very few potatoes. The Ceviche Mixto lacked the bright citrus flavor that ceviche should have. My grandmother, who is very familiar with Peruvian cuisine, found it bland, and even after taking it home we couldn't improve it. The Bistec Encebollado was slightly too salty for our taste. The beans simply weren't to my liking, though that's a matter of personal preference. Another issue is the dining room layout. The seating is extremely tight, to the point where it feels like you're almost elbow-to-elbow with the tables next to you, making the experience feel cramped. Overall, this visit was disappointing. Between the slow and inattentive service, the long wait for food, the cramped seating, and several disappointing dishes, the experience did not justify the visit. The female waitress deserves recognition for stepping in when we had been overlooked, but unfortunately she couldn't make up for the rest of the experience.
