Josie was amazing and SO helpful. I was in town and needed to ship some gifts home and she was sweet, kind and really great with problem solving the shipping situation. She really went above and beyond. Everyone who came into the store while I was there seemed to know her and have great rapport and it was really sweet (and easy) to see how much her customers love her. All of my items arrived in perfect condition and I wanted to make sure to let others know that how great her customer service was. 10/10 would recommend going to this location and working with Josie. read more

Went in to print something I needed for work. I was told I needed to first email the document in order for it to be printed. I had some concerns about privacy and security about sending the document to another email. The attendant who I believe might be the owner was rude and dismissive when I asked her about this. Telling me if I wasn't comfortable with the process to maybe ask my neighbor's or go to staples. To staples I went! Never going back there again. I had to send a a motor vehicle title to the buyer, who was located in Orange County (Santa Ana). I asked to overnight it to the recipient and the lady said it cost $75. Asked her in detail the breakdown of charges and she mentioned that it was the FedEX shipping rate for overnight. Mind you this was a piece of paper folder like a standard letter. I mentioned to her that the price was ridiculous but mailed it anyways since I promised the buyer the letter overnight and it would have saved me a trip from SD to OC. When I got to my office, I did my research and found out that the letter for overnight only cost $35. This infuriated me since the counter worker gouged me for their processing fee, which was more than the shipping cost. It was my mistake for not doing the due diligence and I was willing to pay the exorbitant price to save me time. The reason why I gave this a 1 Star, if lower would be possible, was the flat out lie this lady/owner gave me when I questioned her why the fee is so high. Flagrantly mean-spirited, creepy and unprofessional. Google listing said store was open till six, but I called at 4:48 from my car as I was driving (see time stamped photo of phone log) just to be sure. Josie answered the phone and said the store was actually closing at 5pm NOT SIX as was posted on Google. I told her I was on my way and that I just wanted to pick up a DHL package that had been delivered there for me. She was curt, and said as long as I was there before five, I would be fine. I told her I could see the store in the distance and that I would be there right in the nick of time. Less than ten minutes later when I was standing at the door of the store at 4:57 (see time stamped photo). The store was dark, the door was locked and the gate was drawn. In disbelief, I knocked in the hope someone was still there - No ANSWER. Then I called on my phone, letting it ring for quite some time - NO ANSWER. Despite KNOWING I was coming, Josie didn't give a damn and closed the store EARLY. The following day, I came back and collected my package. Josie was working the store. When I asked her why on earth she had closed early and basically slammed the door in my face, she came up with a variety of absurd excuses such as: the last customer had left and "accidentally" locked the door behind them.... Guess he or she must have also turned off the lights and pulled the inner gate closed too. She told me she was actually at the store till 5:15, so I asked if that were the case, why hadn't she responded when I knocked on the door, and why she didn't answered the phone when I called at 5:01 (see photo of phone log). "We aren't supposed to answer the phone after close" she answered. If she was actually still there, that makes it even more insidious and creepy. I collected my package and left, never to return. I wish I would've read the reviews for this place before I decided on a getting a temporary 3 month PO box here! Sounds like we had similar negative encounters. I had to leave my last apartment due to mold, and so am renting elsewhere temporarily and needed a few months rental for mail, which was stressful enough, so I did not need this bad experience! I work 12 hour shifts in healthcare, so needed somewhere I could access mail after hours, which they advertised, and reiterated when I called. My 1st interaction on the phone should've been a red flag to not purchase and use their services. Josie is the one I have talked to every time. The 1st time, when inquiring about the rental, she was very short when asking about prices, as if I was bothering her and taking up her time. I dreaded calling back again, but I decided to go with them for something like $110.00 for 3 months vs 10$ a month at Post office because of the after hours access. It wasn't till AFTER I came in and gave them my money and signed all the paperwork that they said the gate to the back separating the store from the mailboxes was broken and so I wouldn't be able to access my mail during off hours, but was assured by Josie it would be fixed in a few days. Came back a week later to ask about the gate, and they said it still wasn't working, but that when it was, I would need a 4 digit code to get in, and I would have to give it to them so they could program it in, so I did. Another week goes by so I decided to try my code during the after hours, and it didn't work, but when I pulled on the door it opened, leaving all the mail and boxes unsecured! That made me feel very uneasy about getting mail there, when it's supposed to be a safely secured place. And mind you, I still had not received any mail yet. I go in 2 weeks later during business hours to ask if my code had been input and they said, sorry, it wasn't working and they were behind on inputing the numbers. By now we are approaching a month into my 3 month lease and I still had not gotten mail! Long story short, after 1 1/2 months of not receiving any mail in my 3 month lease and my code NEVER working, which is the main reason I chose this place, AND the door being unsecured once when I tried, I told Josie I wanted my money back as they are not providing the services I am paying for and are claiming they have, plus I didn't feel safe getting mail there since I found it open once- that's one too many times. She said she would talk the manager, and I requested a call back from her....someone named Mary? After another 2 weeks, no call. It was then the Holidays and my 3 month lease was up and I received a bill for renewal and never got the response from the supposed manager Mary. I responded to the renewal email stating I was still waiting for a call from the Manager Mary and I would not be renewing and wanted my money back. Nothing. I went in and spoke with Josie and she said SHE was actually the manager, and Mary was the owner, so she was not being upfront with me-another of the many red flags. I really don't think she ever did speak with anyone. I gave them my key, did not renew, but still am waiting to talk to the owner Mary with whom on numerous requests, asked to speak with as I was only getting the message through Josie. I told her I may have to escalate things if the owner did not contact me, and yet still nothing. So, this is one of the forums I have to escalate, but I may take more action as it is fraudulent to charge for services not delivered. I walked in with two boxes that needed to be sent via FedEx and the woman working there was on the phone. She completely ignored me for at least five minutes while she finished her call. Then she asked me if I was just dropping the boxes off. One of them was not taped shit yet so clearly I was not just dropping them off. I told her no, I needed labels for them. She immediately looked mad and asked me how I would be shipping them. I told her FedEx and she again looked mad and told me that her FedEx person was already there and needed to leave. I said ok, I still need to ship these so I didn't care if they were going out then or the next day. Honestly, she seemed very bothered that I was making her work. Rude and extremely unfriendly service. I won't be going back. There are plenty of other FedEx places I can go to ship packages. read more

I went to go drop off a package and the lady was unnecessarily snarky about it. I had asked for a receipt just so that I have a record of it, but she responded saying that the fact that she's been in business and has multiple branches is enough proof that these packages will be fine. I was at the Postal annex on Villa de la Valle in Del Mar next to Gelsons market . I had a 35 pound box of things I needed to get to my Boyfriend n Idaho . I had to pay 240 dollars to them and the box wasn't even on time it was 3 days late . I called Fed Ex and they said 240 dollars what are you talking about the lady that owns PostalAnnex only paid $35 what a rip off !!!!!!! I called postal annex and told the, that I was aware that they over charged me . They told me that they can charge as much they want to charge. Postal Annex is a franchise so this may not be an issue with ALL but certainly is for this location. DO NOT PURCHASE a LONG TERM contract here. In the case that you need to re-locate or cancel your box, they will NOT pro-rate and refund, even though they can still sell the use of that box AFTER you "vacate". Your purchase is NON-REFUNDABLE which seems ridiculous considering the the rental of the box after cancellation is still available to the Postal Annex location. * ALSO... if you have a home based business in an unicorporated area of San Diego, you need not have a business permit BUT the moment you rent a Postal Annex box in DEL MAR (and many other small communties, IE Solana Beach, Encinitas) you are required to acquire a business permit from that city. read more

I bought a book of stamps for $13.30. While paying for it I expressed my complete surprise that the stamps have gone up in price soooo much. The lady at the register never bothered to mention that there is a mark up on stamps. I would still have purchased them, but I feel very mislead that she kept completely quite while I mentioned several times my surprise at the price. I sadly suspect that this location waaay overcharges for delivery services. I was quoted $65 to send a small package via overnight delivery to a major US city. No frills, no insurance - just overnight delivery. This package was so small it fit in an envelope! Of course, I declined the service. But wow. I will not return here. Update 4/8/12: WOW this place is just unbelievably bad. Thought I'd give it one more chance since I was in a hurry today (Saturday). Wanted a single, 8-1/2 x 11 letter overnighted to a major city on Monday, for Tuesday arrival. Best price? $58. For one letter. So, unless Postal Annex is your favorite charity, there is absolutely no reason to go here and give them your money. The letter will go out on Monday via USPS for Tuesday arrival. Price? $18. Looks like Postal Annex charges over three times more than the good old Post Office. Plus I had to wait almost 10 minutes for the single person in the store to finish notarizing a big stack of documents for the person in front of me, without once acknowledging my presence until I asked her if she was going to take much longer. Dishonest employee ripped me off. I shipped several items to my daughter in NYC, including a mug with a $100 Starbucks card. The card arrived with $.02 on it. BEWARE. Worst Postal Annex on the planet. I paid $90 to ship a bottle of wine next day air for a friends anniversary party. It arrived two days later, after the party, and I went back in to complain that I paid handsomely for guaranteed overnight service and was told I would get a refund for the shipping charge, but it had to be approved by the owner. I called back later to find the owner did not approve the refund and that it was just going to be my loss because they are not responsible if UPS does not deliver on time. There was no weather issue or other issue with UPS, it just was not done. They were so apathetic as to the loss, and disinterested as to the level of service. So, bottom line, if you need to ship, go anywhere else, and most other Postal Annexes will stand behind their word on shipping time. $90 to overnight a bottle of wine. Wont happen twice - at least not there. read more

Terrible customer service and overpriced. I went in to purchase a plain white envelope and needed a small piece of tape. The envelope was $2.17 and the piece of tape was $1. I was getting my wallet out with the intention of paying and commented to the salesgirl, Alexx, that it was a little ridiculous to charge for a piece of tape. She responded by saying, "Nothing is free in this world!" I was shocked by her rude comment! I put my wallet away and left. I went to a nearby Mail Mania in Solana Beach and the envelope and complimentary piece of tape cost me $1.07! read more

I went there to mail an overnight envelope and was told it would be $80 I said I'm sure this is mistake because I mail to the same place from another location and it's always 32.00 overnight UPS. The lady said that it was the gas prices and increased trucking costs. I said again this price obviously was incorrect to please correct it and again they acted like nothing was wrong with their price. I asked for my letter back and went to a postal place in Encinitas and barely made it on time and it was $32.00 to ship the exact letter Postal Annex was trying to charge me $80 to send. Poor customer service has me giving a one-star rating. The larger built guy behind the counter made the experience not fun at all. He didn't smile, he must not have had his coffee, and was completely un-friendly. Not helpful and a disdain for being there. Smile you are working in the Ranch for crying out loud. These guys are jerks. I was in the store to buy some padded envelopes for a few shipments with pre-printed labels. I knocked over a glass ornament that was on their cramped counter and they charged me $12 for it. The guy said that they have to charge me for it and he just shrugged his shoulders when I said that they lost a customer. I've used this PostalAnnex several times in the past and I just can't believe that they actually charged me for it. I will never, ever do business with these people again and I am happy to provide them with this review. read more

Update: Package didn't even arrive! Amazing how bad this place is. They didn't address the package correctly and now my daughters letter and art is completely lost. She asks every time we talk with them if they got her letter and artwork. I'm going to try to recreate it from memory and send it to them again from a real post office. BEWARE of mailing anything from this place that you want to see again! Should have checked yelp before walking into this place. Slowest place EVER. My daughter just wanted to mail one very small thing to a friend. There were two employees and one was just sitting on a chair doing nothing. The other took absolutely forever to help the one person in front of me. I was holding my son and there are toys everywhere lined with breakable things in front of them. After spending 20 minutes (I was watching the clock) waiting and then trying to get the employee to let me just write to address out or type it correctly, my son tapped a stuffed animal while I was holding him and it knocked a figurine off the shelf. Why would you pile a massive amount of stuffed animals that will attract young children on a shelf with a massive amount of breakable things? She promptly finished up and charged me for the ugly thing that he broke. Interesting how she can hurry once she has something to charge me for. Never going here again. Completely clueless staff. Would have been quicker and cheeper to make the drive to an actual post office. read more

Do not trust them with any really important mail request. I had a box there and had numerous problems including them selling my box twice, so a stranger had access to my mail till I got it straightened out. Recently I had an agreement with them to receive a certified item for me, which they returned to sender and just said oops I guess we forgot. read more

As most of us are, we are in a rush these days and looking for convenience. That being said, I went into the Postal Annex in Del Mar and was charged for the convenience...40% mark-up on a forst class package and 33% for a USPS priorty mail pack. Whilst I understand that this Owner needs to make a profit in order to pay their expenses, I personally feel that in today's economic climate a lesser amount of profit on a convenience could be in line. When the Owner was contacted, their attitude was very arrogant and matter of fact. There are many other businesses that are more conscious of the economic climate and aren't as profit driven and unconcious as this Owner. read more

My wife & I wanted to UPS our daughters car keys to her. We paid for it and was told they would be at our daughters in 2 days, it says exactly that on our Paid Receipt. While tracking the package, we noticed that it was Not going to make it on time. We called Postal Annex on Via De La Valle and was told we could not get our money back ($49.12). I asked for, received the owners email address, emailed the owner with Receipt Attached. I received an email saying 'sorry'... no refund. Terrible way to run a business. There was one incident where a tracking number wasn't generated on an important package, and Ursula refunded me promptly and handled the whole thing with humility. I was very disappointed in this place. I took an item to be shipped out via FEDEX, but the reason I went here is because it was the closest to my work. Unfortunately they don't have a FedEx near by, but this was the next closest place. I shipped a $70 item, and it cost me $38.00!!! For what? I asked the woman working there, "May I have the cheapest option available?" She said that "this was the cheapest option available," and she would not give me pricing for other options like USPS or UPS! I didn't want to pay that money, however I was on a time crunch, and at that moment I didn't have any other options. I than later looked at my receipt to find that she charged me packing peanuts, but never asked if I wanted it! It was a backpack! Why would I need packing peanuts? She charged me the full price of the box, that she said "It won't cost as much because we'll cut it down." Please, if you need to ship anything, avoid this place at all costs. The employee was very unpleasant to deal with, but luckily she had a co-worker that was nicer. Take the time, and actually ship stuff out via actual locations, and not through dealers like this company. There is definitely a markup! read more

I had a package mailed last week and paid the $17 for the tracking # and fed ex has no information on the location of the package. I'm very dissappointed that i had to pay $17 in the first place and now fed ex has no record of my package at all and i have to go back to that location to figure out what the issue is and try and get my money back. Went to this postal annex because I work in the area, I had 2 important pieces of government mail to send, the young teenager behind the counter seemed to be busy and ignored me but asked the gentleman who came after me for help. I pardoned myself and asked if they had a mailbox, she said yes grabbed my mail and layed it on the counter. I asked her if she could put it in the mail due to the importance of personel information the letters contained, she grabbed them opened a cabinet and threw them in a box. They don't have a locked area for mail. The manager came out and then looked then walked away, I then asked if there was a post office and she informed me that I should drop them off in the mailbox by Wells Fargo in the shopping center. I gladly grabbed my mail and dropped them off in the very secure mailbox. I do not reccomend this postal annex, the place is small and full of junk, overpriced and EXTREMELY RUDE STAFF!!!!!!! read more

I have spent a lot of money here over the years, but will never use them again. I took one package to them the Monday before Christmas and paid a lot of money to ship UPS. I needed them to put it into a shipping box. Instead of doing that while I waited, they promsied to do it later "when they had more time." Well, they packed and shipped my gift all right and shipped it to the wrong person! they shipped someone else's package to my friend. Some Christmas present for my friend who opened a note signed by a stranger. My advise is go to a UPS store where they actually pack your stuff while you wait. read more
