I love this place. Only been here twice but both times were just...right. Alton itself is a cool trip but I was thrilled to find this really quirky coffeeshop within an old post office building. There is a huge amount of space and seating and you can't feel wrong with any of it. I really just dig the ambience. It's very bright and open inside with all sorts of cool antiquated decor. There is both an alcohol bar and an espresso bar where they sell pastries and tasty breakfast options. Can't go wrong with the food and the espresso is always on point. The service is friendly and prompt and the whole experience is always a treat. Will come again and again, love this hidden gem. read more

Found this unique place during a work trip. It is an old post office renovated coffee shop/café. The space is large and you can really find a seating that will suit your preference, either in the large room or next window or by the couch. Since it's a coffee shop, so the food choice wasn't abundant, but the menu is combination of healthy and fresh. I ordered avocado toasts and it was delicious. Though this place does not have signature coffee (coffee sourced locally or roasted in house), this history of the building alone worth a visit. read more

If you haven't been to this Alton gem yet, you are missing out. Black iced coffee is my go-to drink and theirs is pretty close to perfect. I've also tried a Dirty Chai which was incredible and a sip of a friends iced vanilla latte - also amazing. I'm not sure where their pastries are from, but they're all delicious. I highly recommend the flaky chocolate one. It is life changing. I'm not kidding. Today, I finally had the chance to try their breakfast. A few standard items all under $10. I opted for the breakfast sandwich - fried egg, ham, and cheese on a pretzel bun. AMAZING! The staff is always hustling and friendly despite being packed on Saturday mornings. I've popped in a few times before work during the week and they're still quick & happy. Seems like they all enjoy the environment which is always a good sign. They also have a bar serving mimosas, beer, etc. which I have yet to try, but is all the more reason to return. The space is clean, open and incredibly neat. After living in this neighborhood for many years I am so having Post Commons within walking distance. read more

Please go here! One of my favorite coffee shops ever. This space is awesome. It's a old post office so it has so much character and everything is so vintage, but not tacky. The owner is always around and talking with people which is just a really nice touch. The coffee is great and their brunch menu is so yummy. This place is always evolving which I really appreciate and I will always come here when I'm in the alton area. I wish they were open on sundays because I would love to go here for breakfast after church! read more

I'm sorry to have to deliver a mixed review for this promising place. It's an amazing space--a terrific renovation of the oKd Alton Post Office, with so much of the charming old PO features retained that it it's a delight to see and visit. It's also playing host to inspIring and beautiful banner art by local artist Monica Mason. The coffee and tea service is excellent. I am a tea connoisseur, and I was impressed both by the tea menu and the perfect preparation of Bao Zhong Oolong. Sweet treats by Fox Box are also fantastic. But then there's the regular menu. Alas, whoever has rewritten it must be a PR person, not a restaurateur, because they haven't absorbed the important point that descriptions of food must be congruent with reality. I see from a little online research that their Downtown Slinger, which is really just biscuits and gravy with eggs, used to be described as being garnished with microgreens. Now there's a little sprinkle of spinach on top. But is it described as a garnish? Nope. The overblown description just says "spinach". Same for the otherwise pretty good "Winter's Coming", toast with white bean "cassoulet" and an egg. Folks, when I see spinach listed as an ingredient, I expect to see a significant amount, not a quarter teaspoonful. We certainly plan to go back to try the place again and will upgrade the review upon improvement. read more

This is my favorite coffee shop in the area! It has beautiful interiors, great staff, and a great environment. The owner renovated the old post office into a beautiful event space with Alton history sprinkled all over. Moving to the area from Wicker Park in Chicago, I was worried that I would miss out on the coffee scene there, but to be honest, this place beats out many in Wicker. Also, as a pour over fanatic, they make a decent V60 (and cold brew might I add). Definitely check it out when in Alton for coffee and breakfast / lunch! read more

Love this place. It is my favorite place in the Alton area to study. Very cozy and relaxing, great atmosphere & friendly staff. Music isn't too loud and tables are well spaced for privacy. Also drinks and food are good with reasonable prices. Only suggestion is a change in hours. Myself and many others have Saturday's and Sundays off which I would love to utilize Post Commons to study all day but hours are short on Saturdays and closed on Sundays. Took my mom there for breakfast because she's a mail carrier and I knew she'd love the building and atmosphere. We ordered breakfast, a caramel latte, a Coca Cola (which came in a glass bottle) and a slice of banana walnut bread. We got our breakfast, which was really delicious. My mom opened her soda and it was completely flat. When telling the manager, he looked at us as though we were lying (why would we?) but said he could give her one glass from the "hose". Cool. Thanks dude. We finished our breakfast and I still hadn't received my latte. About 5 minutes after finishing eating, my latte arrived and it was just ok. A few hours later, as mom and I were shopping and passed a bakery she said: "Wait. We never got our banana bread at breakfast." Sure enough, after all that, we were jipped out of more of the breakfast we paid and tipped for. The building was really cool, but the service was less than desirable. The food was decent but really not worth the money. Very limited menu- 8 options for brunch and that included a granola/yogurt option and oatmeal. Not very customer oriented as you see a sign when you walk in asking you to order your food before you sit down and to also bus your table when you leave. Not my idea of a brunch atmosphere. Also, another example; I asked for onions on my slinger and was told very nicely( the cashier was sweet) that she didn't think that we could get anything not listed on the menu specifically even though they have onion in the pico which is on the breakfast burrito. I asked if I could get pico instead since it was in the menu and still she had to ask for permission to make this deviation. I ordered a Bloody Mary and even though there were no orders ahead of us, it took( not exaggerating) 15 minutes to get it and it came 5 minutes after our food. Since we ordered eggs, it was pretty annoying to have to start eating before the drink came. The Bloody Mary was good with a lot of extras that I can do without, 2 kinds of cheese, bacon, an olive, a pickle and celery. Which is probably why it took so long. I'd rather it be less expensive ($9)and come before the food. All and all, I will not go back. 29.00+ for 2 entree's, a drink and coffee. Changed $1 for the Pico. Breakfast burrito was good, grilled tortilla a nice touch. I had the slinger which had maybe a half oz of bacon crumbles, online menu says 2 strips. There was more bacon in my drink. I would not think this would be a good place to take kids price or option wise. read more

Excellent coffee. I've had the regular drip and the espresso. Great breakfast options at normal human proportions and prices. The atmosphere and employees are what really make this place. There are so many options for places to sit and there never feels like there is a rush if you want to stay awhile. The people behind the counter are always friendly and behave in a way that makes it seem like they enjoy working there. I gave it 3 stars for the building. It's a super cool, huge, historic old post office. It would be an awesome venue for live music, dancing and drinks but the coffee and food was so boring and bland tasting, I'll never go back for that but I will certainly go back to hear a band, dance and drinks, I'll just make sure I eat before I get there. read more
