I absolutely love this coffee shop. The coffee is always so good and so strong. They offer a bunch of different bakery items. I am gluten-free and they had this amazing vegan banana muffin that was gluten-free. It was so delicious. The people that work there are so kind. The vibe is really cool too because it's in an old school house and it has a bunch of different little shops in it too. I highly recommend if you're in the area to check it out. It is definitely worth the trip and you will not regret it. They also have alcoholic drinks too, but I have never tried any there. read more

Love this coffee shop! It is charming and warm inside, with stained glass windows and antique lamps. They always have swag, stuff from the old glass factory and artists work sale on a little shelf. The service is amazing, everyone is kind and helpful. I've been here at least 10 times now and I can confirm the whole staff is great. It's a wonderful community space too with lots of flyers and cards to check out. They have a local artist every month fill up a small hallway gallery space. Theirs plenty of seating of all sorts- big central table, little nooks, comfy chairs out in the hallway, and a really nice covered outdoor patio. Why haven't I found Marva's earlier? Maeva is a hidden treasure at the Alton area. It is a coffee & tea shop and also a cocktail bar. It is decorated like a world travel library. I would never discovered this gem without guidance from Yelpers. This place becomes my new favorite in the area. They serves great drinks, delicious pastries and snacks. Service was excellent. The servers provided great advice on drinks and pastries options. Free WiFi was available. What I love? 1) The meat quiche is amazing. Highly recommended! 2) The tea options are limited but all delicious. You get to choose your mug size at the same price. 3) I tried the strawberry matcha drink. The servers made it fresh on the spot. Maeva's is simply amazing. It's a throwback to the vintage coffee shops of the 70's. If I walked in with a tie-dyed t-shirt on and sandals, I would have felt right at home. Maeva's is tucked inside a old school and they've converted one of the old classrooms into one of the most charming coffee shop in Alton. Even with its local popularity, it is still one of the best kept secrets, that needs to be let out. They have a very extensive drink menu for both hot and cold beverages. What blew my mind, is when I found out they do all of their own baking. My Blueberry Coffee Cake was to die for and I cannot wait to come back and try their "famous" Monkey Bread. Another item on the food menu, that is an must try is the quiche. They are the perfect size for one, almost like a personalized pizza. I love how they worked the old school house charm into the decor. They have old fashioned encyclopedias on bookshelves Many of us grew up using them, before there was the internet and Google. Good to see they can still be used today. The staff/barista is not what you'd find at a Starbucks. They're much better. This place has such a comforting vibe. They clearly designed this place for a relaxing cuppa, not a rushed visit. They don't have a drive-through, but you can get it to go if you are busy. In addition to the cute coffee shop, the entire building offers places to sit and drink while you talk with a friend, read a book from the small free library, or play one of their board games. Fantastic coffee with changing seasonal menus keeps things fresh around the year. Their winter snowbird latte was excellent with seasonal citrus and spice. I had an appointment in the building and had to stop in here. It's an old, repurposed building, with a very cool aesthetic. Stained glass, plants and fun eclectic decor. Very beautiful spot, a place where I would definitely hang out. I tried one of their specialty matcha drinks and it was phenomenal. All of their options looked great, if I lived within 10 minutes, I would probably be here on the regular. Again- Alton has the most underrated coffee shops in the St. Louis area! Maeva's is the definition of a hipster coffee shop. It is located inside of an old haunted schoolhouse. There is a cat named Buford. There is random artwork all over the walls. What more could you ask for? What I order: I absolutely love the iced chai here. It is a silky sweet that is to die for. Their regular coffee is good too! Food wise I have had the quiche and it is good, but not the best I've ever had. All of the workers are friendly and know their stuff! As the PastorJavaMan, I love checking out local coffee shops ~ rather than green mermaid chain. Coming back to Alton, one of my old haunts, I had to come and check out this place. Damaris, the barista, was very welcoming and kind, and she did an amazing job on my latte. They have a great variety of coffees and other things here. The atmosphere of this coffee shop is wonderful. The setting is in an old Alton elementary school building. They even have a little free library in the hall. There are plenty of quiet places for work or reading. One of the patrons told me that pastors enjoy coming here to work on sermons because of the nice setting and free WiFi. When I am back in Alton, this will be my regular stop. read more

The first door opened and there were steps. Went up the steps in the next set of doors. Coffee shop is to the right. None of the doors looked like this place was ope . They were dark. There was one young kid working and while he was polite and seemed to work hard, it took incredibly long and all of our drinks tasted like flavored milk. Walking into Maeva's, I wasn't sure what to expect, but I loved it! I wanted to check it out because I was in the neighborhood, and I wanted to see the resident cat. Buford is such a sweet cat, and is very popular with patrons. There's plenty of seating both inside the shop and within the building. I tried the snowbird latte and a vegan chocolate chip scone. Both were amazing! The latte wasn't too sweet, and you could definitely taste the flavor. The scone was crumbly, which is what I expected from a vegan pastry, and loaded with chocolate chips. They also offer a variety of other pastries and quiches. Also, I think the hours listed on Yelp are incorrect. I believe they recently changed their hours, but I don't remember the exact times. They close at 5 pm on Sundays now as opposed to 3 pm. read more

Hidden gem of Alton, Illinois! Got an oat milk, mocha latte and blueberry streusel cake both of which I would rate 5 stars. Coffee was the perfect blend of sweet, creamy, and bitter; streusel cake was moist, great consistency and had big, beautiful blueberries that carried wonderful flavor! Great atmosphere plenty of places to take a rest. They have a very friendly and attentive staff.
