We come here more often than deserved to be honest. The staff are friendly but the service system is awful. Came on a Friday, 4 other tables in the whole place and it took 45 mins and having to ask our server twice just to get our first round of drinks. We saw no fewer than 4 other tables come in, get sat, get ignored, then just get up and leave, and nobody working seemed to even notice. We ended up having to go to the bar to ask for our bills after the server just never came back. We would have drank more and had food had there been any semblance of service. read more

It has been quite a few years since I was last in Portland Craft. I did not have a positive food experience the last time I was there and had no plans to return. Alas, friends were holding a fundraiser at Portland so off I went. They had reserved the long communal table. This experience was so much more enjoyable than my last. Our server was pleasant and attentive. They had 4 IPAs on the big board...yeah. I enjoyed a hazy double IPA. For food, I opted for the Main Street Burger with fries. Portland Craft seemed like the only bar on Main street that wasn't playing stressful metal music.....THANK YOU! My sister and I were looking to have a chill night over food and drinks. Portland craft didn't disappoint! Cans were on special for $5 each - what a deal! We decided on Spectrum - Hot Pink Lemonade Sour (i LOVE sours!!) and Spectrum - Shampagne Saison. Both were very light and refreshing, and yes admittedly we fell for the packaging. I mean HOW pretty!! (see attached pic) We spit the burger and fries with jalapeno carrot dip. This was a stretch, since both of us are big ketchup fans, but I'm glad we went rogue and tried something different. The carrot flavour was really unique! I also was so in love with the bread that was sourced from Cobbs -- there was a crisp.."crust-y" layer on the outside, and chewiness on the inside. I ate half of that burger so slowly to enjoy every bite! Could have easily finished a whole one on my own... but we were saving room for food later on in the night haha :). We had a gift card for this joint so decided to pop in and try a couple appies and beer! The interior is great and their staff welcomed us when we walked in. The beer list is solid and they have lots to choose from. I do wish it felt a touch more like a quirky Portland spot vs a Craft beer market. I loved my Deschutes Black Butte! and they've got some awesome Portland brews on tap! The service was quite slow but the staff was all really nice and friendly and we had no where to be so it didn't matter too much. As for food, the fries were nice and crispy and soft in the middle. The shrimp fritters could have used a little less time in the fryer but I liked the addition of edamame bean in the fritter. The grilled squid was a nice change from fried calamari and I thought it was cooked well, I just would have done abit of a different sauce. Came here today for a beer and dinner. We just missed the happy hour but it's okay. I got the classic margarita pizza and my friend got a burger. The stone oven pizza is the Bomb. The pizza is cooked to perfection and the margarita topping is so tasty. I also got the #8 golden beer - would get it again! Funny that my friend got a flight of beer but the guy couldn't remember his order so we ended up with a few extra and the flight didn't come with a tray so it was hard to remember what's what. A great place to drink not in Downtown. Today we headed there for Happy Hour. I had a $5.75 14 oz beer and $11.50 pulled "pork" vegetarian sliders made with jackfruit (and you got a giant portion of fries with it.) Definitely something to try but not mouth wateringly amazing. Definitely would satisfy any vegetarian in your group though! Some got chicken wings and you got to choose your dipping sauce and those were deeeeelish! Their Happy Hour is 3-5PM FYI (seems an hour earlier for ending compared to other places) and has poutine, popcorn, fries, pizza, burgers, and lots of beer specials. The 20 oz local draught for $5 is a STEAL! I know it's called Portland Craft but considering BC is such a hub for Craft Beer, I was sad to only see 1 local draught hence a one star dock. This place gets really loud so it's not the greatest place to have conversations - we ended up having to shout across the table at each other. We sampled the following foods: * Roquette Salad (5/5 STARS) - loved the crispy prosciutto and walnut Dijon vinaigrette. * Poutine (4/5 STARS) - delicious gravy. * Salt & Pepper Wings (2/5 STARS) - nice crisp but flavour was a bid disappointing. * Chicken & Waffles (3/5 STARS) - nice batter on the chicken but lacked flavour. * Prawn Lettuce Wraps (2/5 STARS) - The prawns were deep fried and the batter was a bit too hard and overpowered the prawns. * Mac and Cheese (4/5 STARS) - very creamy. Very accommodating for huge group sizes. I made a reservation for 25 people and they placed us at the long wooden table. There were good happy hour (3-5pm) selections. I love Portland, but Portland Craft is an absolute disappointment. The service was great, but they need a lot of help on their food. I figure since their menu was so small, the dishes should be close to perfection. Nope, I couldn't even finish my burger. It was dry and not well seasoned. I appreciate the beet puree on top to try and create something unique, but it didn't do anything for the patty. I had a bite of the mac n cheese and it was so average I can't even remember to put it into words. I didn't give this place a 1 star because I believe the staff were all friendly and at least tried to provide an enjoyable experience. Being a fan of craft beer, and seeing all the lineups and hype in months past, I was excited to try this place out. One word: meh. Parking is available along Main, as well as the side streets. The inside is lively, just like any place out in Yaletown. Very cool Sasquatch theme throughout the restaurant. Tables are definitely on the cramped side - people kept smacking into me as they walked by. Maybe they're gunning for the west coast style beer here, but many of the beers on the menu could be purchased at the local liquor store. At $10 a flight, I really had trouble justifying my purchases. The food was a bit on the pricey side as well - my friends and I decided to eat elsewhere. The beer selection could also be a bit better. Only some 20 or so brews available for the flights. My single biggest complaint though? The music was so damn loud, my friends and I couldn't hear each other. I wanted a nice place to chat, and instead we got a nightclub. This is a great place for large groups. They have a group area upstairs but it can get quite warm up there. The food is okay, very average. I ordered the chicken and waffle dish $17 which had a funny name- something with bird and nest. Chicken was white meat. It was well cooked but I've tasted better seasoning elsewhere. I know I should wait until I have had a few experiences before I Yelp, but I'm just too hopped up. Get it? Portland Craft opened tonight, and was packed, with a line out the door. Like just opened - there was sawdust on the benches, and by my friends' accounts they were still nailing the seats down at 5pm. It's that fresh. Occupying the space that was once Coppertank, Portland Craft has a lofty feel, complete with two levels for seating, large windows and skylights. The vibe feels upbeat and minimal, with lots of room to add some quirk. Decor wise, I was impressed with the multi-stained planks of wood that give the bar a defined area and draw the eye upward, filling in the vast space between it and the second level. These also provided the backrests for the banquets - nice touch! But I'm sure what's really on your mind is the food and the beer. Spoiler Alert - I only tried the beer: multiple taps with more obscure selections from brewers like Rogue, Lagunitas, Elysian, R+B cask and more. (So many that I must explore in more depth). There's also a selection of bottles, and I have a feeling that this collection will be growing! And, the menu looks fantastic! Well priced with share plates starting at $4 and main dishes starting at $10. A couple of things I must try on my next visit: rainbow trout tartare, and put a bird on it hop fried buttermilk chicken. I'm basing this review on nearly 10 years on coming here on a regular basis, so it's more of an average... Food is great! Menu has evolved, but there a lots of selections that are hearty and affordable. Wings & Appies are always good. I haven't tried most of the Main Courses on the current menu. Beer and drink selection is plentiful. This is my go-to place for an Oregon brew on tap. Happy Hour is divine, even if it takes a while to figure out their tricky system of what's on special. Service: So far I'd be hitting a 4 or 5 on this Review, but Service has consistently knocked me down over the years. I have had some really bad experiences at Portland Craft, and to be truthful, if it wasn't for the beer I would never go back. A couple of the guys behind the bar have been amazing and informative, but floor service is a torturous ordeal. Tables frequently dirty, even on off-hours. Bills are incorrect on a regular basis. I remember the first time (2008 or 2009?) and our bill was $30 overcharged... and things just have never improved. I'd say bill error 25% of the time. Staff consistently appear irritated - I can't put my finger on it... And this is during slow or busy times. If this is what the real Portland is all about, I never want to go there! read more

[Put a Bird on It] Quality beer selection & Fried Chicken and Waffle. Need i say more? I'm a big beer fan and the selection at Portland Craft is excellent. There's a huge chalkboard of all the available beers (each with a hops rating) which is constantly being updated with new ones. If you can't make up your mind, there's a great beer sampler option. Many of the beers here won't be found at your local BC liquor store which is one of the reasons I keep coming back. The food quality is also very good. My favorite is the fried chicken and waffle - a harmony of sweet and savory. It also comes with a side of gravy and syrup and a slice of watermelon to finish. Yum. I've also tried the mac and cheese and it too is excellent. The selection of food is limited to maybe 15 items but it's never usually a problem - I'm here more for the beer and atmosphere than the food. The ambiance is something I've always loved at Portland craft. The high ceilings and decor give it that modern loft type of feel without being too pretentious. The crowd is usually pretty laid back with a bit of a hipster vibe. The big communal table in the middle is functional and versatile but for more intimate encounters, it doesn't really work. The restaurant itself is located in a quieter area of main street with plenty of free street parking around. The beer keeps me coming back for more but it's nice to have good food and ambiance as well. 4.5 stars. read more

Maybe once they get rolling the food will be better? I found the chicken wings and pork belly a tad over cooked making the meat dry. First thing I noticed was that this place has no happy hour menu, a little disappointed. however they have super awesome service and amazing interior decor! Most of the beers are local, which is pretty cool. I had the whisky tasting flight, and discovered a few whiskies that I can enjoy just on its own. So really, I'm looking at the ambiance, the other drinks available, and the service. As others have mentioned, high ceilings, very high. Seating is in booths, the bar and long bench like high tops. It's a pretty happening place on a Saturday night at about 11:30. I came late but my buddies were able to secure a table. Service was kinda spotty. Our waitress wasn't terribly attentive, and didn't seem too overly friendly. There is actually not only beer on the menu, but wine and bourbon as well. Gotta have something for everyone I guess. I arrived late on night and the place was busy. The staff was friendly but the service was slow. Hard to blame them with a packed house, but... I ordered the Put a bird on it aka Chicken and waffles. The chicken was good, but the waffles were poor. The waffles were more like pancakes than waffles. They also didn't have the sweetness of most places that make Belgian waffles for their chicken and waffle dishes. For a bar serving chicken and waffles, I had a lot better at Back Forty down town Vancouver. Their booze selection is very large. Lots of beer on tap and other spirits. I tried a local beer and it was very delicious. It was quite loud inside, but the place was full, I think it would be a good place for drinks with friends, not so much for their food. read more

Whenever I am thinking of a place where I can have a few drinks, and not needing to either be in downtown, or some dive-like sports bar, this is my go-to location. Depending on what time of the day you are here, this place can be pretty full, but not to the point of bursting at the seams, and it's a comfy place with enough liveliness to meet up friends. One of the easier areas for people with cars to get to, as there is a ton of free parking on the streets (just read the signs) and a great place to bring groups, as they have big booth seating. If you are looking for booze, no worries here, there is a ton, and it's not on any paper menu, but on their blackboard, and usually changes with a swipe. Not your usual on tap beers, but a whole batch of small breweries where you may not know what you want to order. If you are not into beer, don't worry, just look at the bar, there's some stiff stuff there, even flights of bourbon. If you are into wine though.. be warned.. I did not see much of this, as the only thing I saw offered to me on my latest visit was a house red and white. The place is playing music, and there are sometimes you can't even hear it as everyone is talking in this place, for a quiet night out.... this is not your place. This is a place where you can come as you are, whether you are in shorts, or whether you were dressed from work and didn't get a chance to go home, you will feel comfortable here. So how is the rest of the stuff you ask? Well I have had some small bites, even dessert, and it's not bad.. I know they have Chicken and Waffles... and will one day try it out... so don't expect the normal cheap bar menu, it's different here, they do split it up to below $5, over $5, and over $10... and there's quite a bit of selection there, and you'll be hopefully finding something to nibble on. The decor, it is very simplistic, high ceilings, a cool light wooden look for the backdrop of the bar that dominates this room. There is a balcony portion if seating below is all taken up. Fallen drastically in the last number of years. Used to have a mandate of Pacific Northwest beers from Washington to California. Now they have a bunch of shitty local breweries. Staff have zero beer knowledge. I asked who brewed their house lager and was told the owner homebrewed it (maybe, but pretty sure that's false... and illegal). I have to refer to the beers by number because the bartender doesn't know what's what on the menu. They have never heard of Fair Isle and basic top notch Pacific Northwest breweries (who actually have a distributor here and you can find at other bars around town). I occasion pop in because they do throw on one interesting tap every few months, but I'm becoming less and less inclined (read: will try 2 more times before completely giving up) to bother with the new person in charge of their beer menu... even their US stuff is stuck in the mid 2000s. Lame and dated bar. Tried the guacamole and chips - way too much onion and they put green onion in their too. Wtf? No lime detectable, unbalanced, at least the avocado was the right ripeness. read more

Time to get out and support our local restaurants. They need our support and for those places that are making the effort to open and practice safe physical distancing we are happy to do our part. You can't always trust that online information about hours of operation are up to date with everything in such flux with adapting to Covid-19 so we just took a walk down Main Street to see what was open. While some places remain closed there was still plenty of options between those open for take out only and others open with reduced seating capacity. We could have done take out and gone home to eat, but we wanted to sit down and Portland Craft had room for us to take a table. Though we had passed by many times before this was our first time there. There was a broad range of food choices on the menu and an even broader range of draught beer. We tried a flite of four beers and we thought this was a good way to sample the different styles of beer. There were so many brews to choose from so we put our trust in our server and asked him to surprise us. He did not disappoint and here's what we got: Aslan Dawn Patrol Pale Ale (a definite citrus note); Deschutes Black Butte Porter (dark but not heavy); Maui Bikini Blonde Lager (a light and traditional lager); and Stone Tangerine Express IPA (fruity and easy to drink for people that don't normally like beer). Definitely showed a full range of flavours and demonstrates why craft breweries have become so popular. The food was also excellent. We ordered the maple-miso brussel sprouts, lemongrass chicken wings and the carnitas tacos. It seems like brussel sprouts are appearing on a lot of menus these days so we had to try this offering. I like how restaurants are being creative and finding new ways to cook this under rated vegetable. The maple-miso sauce was a bit salty but I guess that comes from the miso and it was still very tasty. My son likes salty food nd this would be perfect for him. The lemongrass flavour on the chicken wings was mild. These chicken wings disappeared in a hurry. The carnitas tacos were played better than in the picture. We got started on them before remembering to take a picture so we put them back on the plate to take the photo but our plating skills need improvement. I think the meat is like a pulled pork. All in all a nice spot for a Saturday lunch and great to know we have a good craft beer establishment not too far from home. read more

They have a great rotating tap selection along with daily drink specials which make it a great spot any day of the week! (Mondays are my fav) Decent service and the tunes are always on point. I like the warehouse atmosphere here and the great selection of beer. The menu has improved over the years and I'm glad to see happy hour exists. I can here with a friend for afternoon eats, the burger and green goddess salad, both of which satisfied to taste buds. The green goddess could have more ingredients for its $13 or could be scaled down in price. We were both happy with our beer, especially once happy hour began - $3.75 per sleeve of beer. I think this is a solid spot to come back to, and they have a nice bar with seats as well. Once it got into dinner time, the restaurant really got busy. It is mediocre at best. I didn't try much of the food, even though I was starving, nothing really sounded appealing to me. Just had fries and 2 types of dip and spicy green beans. But they fucked up the fries. And if you can make french fries taste half decent, then I don't have high hopes for the rest of the menu. They were limp and lukewarm and not salted. The dips were okay, particularly the jalapeño lime sour cream, so I doused the fries with the tiny $1.00 ramekin worth of sauce, and then paid for more sauce to make the fries edible. Green beans were okay at best. Tried 3 different cocktails which were all decent and fairly priced, but man oh man was service slow. It would take nearly 15 minutes to get a drink from the time you ordered. Server just kept saying the bartender was backed up, but it was a Wednesday night and didn't seem that crazy in there. Atmosphere was fairly nice. Nothing to write home about, but a comfortable and well appointed space. Server was friendly enough, but something just seemed off about the whole experience. Not sure if they were short staffed, but it definitely felt that way. Even though it wasn't terrible, I would not go back, especially not for the food. Unexciting and poor execution I think. As far as drinks, there are way better places in the city with more inspired options. Really strange experience (not in a good way). We got dinner at Fish counter beside this place on a Sunday night and saw a sign for all day happy hour Sunday for 1/2 price wine and local draughts. Walked in, place was pretty empty.... sat down and quickly found out that it's only for bottles of wine (does anyone actually do this? certainly we weren't going to with just 2 people), and the only beer on special was Main st. pilsner (really!? that's the only one out of like 10+ beers on tap?) Yea, not a good start. Anyway, that would've been okay I guess, as some of the other beers looked interesting, but after sitting there for 5 minutes, we could count the server walking by us 3-4 times without even asking us if we were going to order. I don't remember if I ever did this before, but we literally just stood up and walked out. No, we didn't even get glasses of water during our time there. read more

Great place to come when it is more packed if you are looking for a place to chill and just party or drink with your friends. It is quite loud as the whole place is on fire usually:) However if you want a quiet me time with your drink and a couple of friends then this is one of the few places open during the happy hour of 3-5PM ( in Montreal it is 4-6PM at least if not later lol) and so they have great deals and the food is almost 30-40% off. I would highly recommend them. I think the booths are the nicest so if you can sit there then I would recommend that. Other than that it is of interesting decor. The drinks are good and the staff are always willing to help and have great attitude and are friendly. They were always talking with each other and the guests itself so it makes for a friendly and good atmosphere. They are very hard working as well. The blackened cod burger is a must try! I loved it. And I do not usually like burgers. Give it a try and be aware of slight cajun sauce but it is ok. I don't think they know how to make good fries as it tasted a bit like cardboard or really bad, and so I would suggest to dish out the 2$ for a very generous helping of salad that was excellent. Excellent drink selection (not just beer)! We just came for drinks so I didn't try any of the food but it looked tempting! The cocktails we tried were unique and tasty. There are gluten free beer choices as well. Looking forward to trying this place again, but this time for lunch or dinner! Highly recommend this place for a group outing. We started the night with a new server so our first drinks took a little while but I guess it was the end of her shift so the more experienced server took over and we were very pleased with his knowledge of the beverages! read more

Had a drink and shared a vegetarian pizza here the other evening. Nice interior with tall ceilings and a great beer selection. Pizza was shockingly good for a pub pizza. Server could have been a little friendlier. Overall a good spot! read more

#30DaysOfYelp: 4/30 If you know me, you know i love BEER. And Portland. SO MUCH. However, Portland Craft doesn't remind me of Portland because I can still see Main Street outside and only Portland can remind me of Portland, but they are trying. Needs more hipsters, I guess. Anyway, what can I say? A++ craft beer selection! Not too many, but just enough. They've got a great variety, and it's always changing. Lots of favourites & some new ones to try. I also like how they have wine and cocktails on their list. Haven't tried any, and I may never, but they look interesting! Also informative menu layout! Who doesn't want to know IBUs & ABVs? Did I mention how much I love beer? However, the chicken in Put A Bird On It was kind of salty. I liked the waffle though! And the Portlandia inside joke. Portland Craft is a fine place to go for drinks if you live in the 'hood, but with all of the other great restaurants on this street, I would not go out of my way to go here. It has a good buzz, and a great selection of tunes. The service was fine, too, until I got my drink. My first glass was coated with a large, speckled layer of another sticky beverage--certainly not the one that I'd ordered--possibly left over from opening night? Pretty gross. When I went up to replace it, they were apologetic, and I watched them re-pour it as I was worried that they would try to serve me the same beverage poured into a different glass. After I returned to my seat with my replacement drink, I then noticed that this glass was streaked in what appeared to be black eyeliner or something resembling mascara? Bizarre. I scraped it off and drank it, as at this point, I didn't want to ask for another. Most places--no matter how low key or casual--wipe out their glassware before serving a drink. Certainly not here, I guess. I was a bit disappointed that this would happen twice in a row, but whatever. As others have mentioned, they have a great beer selection, but would you drink your beer out of a glass coated with another drink or cosmetics? Probably not. We were excited to try out the menu, but it was all over the map. Selections were kept to a minimum, and it was difficult to know what to get. They had everything from a burger to chicken and waffles, to a smallish looking unimpressive charcuterie board. I observed the food as it went to some of the tables, but nothing seemed to jump out at me. The potato chips looked good, but that's not what I was here for. Most people in the place seemed to be drinking, and if you read the two previous reviews on here--they didn't actually order food, either. So we decided to take a pass. I could see how it might be appealing after a night of drinking, and perhaps that's what they are going for here. Overall, the place was decorated nicely with a welcoming vibe and an eclectic crowd, and it is definitely a step up from the most depressing Main Street Coppertank. I might venture so far as to return here for a drink again, and if I lived in the 'hood, I could see how this might become a casual meet-up place, but that's about it. 2.5 stars. ***Note*** This establishment immediately showed up under "new businesses" unlike so many others, which illustrates their clever marketing.
