I have to admit the Chili Dog was average. And in not sure if I like my Beef sandwich with spicy and sweet peppers wet. But it was an experience. One you have to try once in your life! And if you are a White Sox fan it's a must! There's Chicago pix everywhere. The workers were very nice. One told me a story about the Chocolate Cake and an ex-girlfriend. You will have to find out on your own.

As native Chicagoans, we've been going to Portillo's for many years. When they moved out here several years ago, we were really happy. Although it's not close to us, we go there a couple times a year. We both love Chicago favorites. Between us, weusually gets the Italian beef dipped or the Chicago dogs. But this time we both had the Italian beef. If I had one quibble, their gardiniera is not very spicy and they charge extra for it. But the quality of the beef and the gravy were still great and their onion rings were above average.

    Big beef?

I got this big beef sandwich and it was pretty skimpy for the biggest sandwich they have on the menu. BUT I did ask this gentleman in a black shirt if this was how it was supposed to be. At first he said "yeah that's the big beef." I asked if it looked good and he said it could have a little more beef and he got me a side of beef. The gentleman working took care of it. Although this is not how much beef should be in a big beef sandwich and the cheese for the cheese fries is never filled past half a cup. Everything tasted great. This is the better Portillo imo of the couple around phoenix area, but they got to do better on proportions. Guy working 10/10

After hearing about Portillo's, you know, the favorite Chicago restaurant where they put a whole piece of chocolate cake in their shakes, I was so excited to see one in Scottsdale! We planned ahead aka skipped lunch to go check this place out. The comedian "fluffy" also tells a story of this shake and we watched it to prepare for the experience. We ordered contactless inside but they had a drive through. We started with the shakes only just in case we got too full for food (which we did). But the shake itself was incredible if you love chocolate cake. It reminded me of having cake and ice cream at a birthday! The frosting was very present. The reason I'm not giving it 5 stars was the selection. They had a lemon cake and a lemon strawberry cake as options. I was hoping for a non-citrus fruit flavor. We didn't really interact with the staff so I can't rate that, but the ambiance was really cool! Not sure if I'd ever go back, but happy to have had the chance to finally try this shake. I got through about 1/3 of it when I had to throw in the towel. It was just tooooo much.

Oh please. What hasn't already been said about this location. I've always had a solid meal at any of the locations throughout the country whether it's a hotdog, beef sandwich, burger, or even a salad. I think they're tops in their industry as far as fries are concerned. I think the prices are reasonable. Overall service is friendly and the location is super clean. The manager came over to say hi and wish us a happy birthday. We always love to enjoy a piece of chocolate cake as well. Plenty of parking out front and drive-through.

If you don't mind crowds, this Portillo's is constantly busy during the lunch hour. We met friends visiting the area for a bite. During the busy hour, it pays to find a table before ordering. We ordered the plant based dog with fries, 2 chopped salads with fries and a chicken salad and beverages. You order and pay at one end. Pick up your food at the marked area. You will find your order number on the receipt. Service is fairly quick although salads come up much faster than a dog. Salads are good sized. I cannot finish it in one sitting. The dog comes with a big pickle.pepperoncini, tomato, onion and relish. All were tasty and moderately priced. There is a drive through as well. Join their app club for a free almost famous chocolate cake on your birthday. Parking right outside.

Delicious as all the Chicago locations. The interior is a little loud, both music and conversation wise. This time we are outside and it was much nicer. I love pretty much everything, but got my regular order of an Italian beef with cheese and extra cheese. Sweet and spicy peppers lightly wet is the way to go! Staff are friendly and quick to order. The wait isn't too long even on the busiest day.

I love the ambiance here and all the nostalgic decor. The jumbo dogs are "on point!" They are SO DELICIOUS it is difficult to deviate and enjoy other offerings on the menu. I have tried the Italian Beef Sandwich which is also good. I especially like it with the optional sweet peppers added. Their hamburgers are pretty good, too. The employees at the register are often short and they are not especially friendly. This is a shame. Also, I do not like the fact that the fan has been broken for a considerable amount of time that they have outside near the drive thru menu. This is intended to keep the employee standing outside taking orders in the AZ heat cooler. Now that temperatures are in excess of 100 degrees, daily, and we are going into our summer, this must be fixed immediately. Anything less is a disservice to your valued employees.

My wife and I stopped at Portillo's Taste of Chicago, dedicated to bringing Chicago-Style hot dogs, Italian beef, and burgers to the Valley. They have a fun '50s diner-meets-Hard Rock Cafe atmosphere. The staff is friendly and eager to serve. We tried one of their Famous Five: their Chicago-style Italian beef and a large order of onion rings. Everything was great. I'll take a good Italian beef sandwich over a cheesesteak any day, and theirs is beefy and juicy--it's so good. They also serve beer and wine and are perfect for groups with ample seating and multiple locations.

You walk in and it really does feel like a lively bier garten. There's many sections, and most of it outdoors. The colors, furnishings, patio games, TVs, music, etc make it feel like a place you could relax for hours Their menu boasts an impressive 28 beers on tap (including imports). They also have a large variety of appetizers and other tasty dishes meals. These dishes are made from scratch and much of the cuisine is European inspired. You'll find a variety of brats, burgers, salads, etc. Everything we tried was fresh, flavorful, and hit the spot. We could have easily have spent many more hours there but there was more of Scottsdale to see Some tips: We went in the spring and it was absolutely gorgeous outside. It's now summer hours and it looks like they're adjusting their schedule accordingly. They are closed Mondays and Tuesdays. The rest of the days they're open 12-9pm (they open an hour earlier Saturday and Sunday, and they close an hour early on Sunday) Our server was incredible gracious, attentive, and professional. She gave us recommendations for the area and also food/drink to try You can make reservations, but we just did a walk-in. I think this more applies to larger groups as they're able to accommodate that. They also accommodate private parties (see their website) There appears to be a trivia night every Wednesday at 7pm. There's Girls Night Out Friday specials from 3pm-close. Join the Stein Club (rewards program). Ask your server how to join Explore Old Town Scottsdale either before or after. We were reluctantly let into the small inside eating area being followed by the manager after he stared unbelievingly at my ADA documentation. The manager was not reasonable with my sister when she explained he is welcome in public accommodations as a service animal; he glared at us until we walked out! I am a HUGE fan on Brat Haus but this discrimination is unacceptable especially with heat as an excuse on a water cooled patio bc of my invisible disability. EDIT: I have changed my 1 star to a 4 star review as I genuinely appreciate the owner's fair explanation/ accountability and do not want to inhibit this genuinely awesome restaurant from succeeding. I love my dog and I want him safe as well... but yes, this experience was NOT ideal. There were many shaded, misted patio areas with wet floors spots as it was a watery event. He would have been comfortable and safe on the ground, not in lap, if seated appropriately. There was not a large crowd for this event and therefore a LOT of room to accommodate. That said, from prior visits, I recommend the beer "Fin du Monde"

I actually discovered this spot through Instagram because of an event they were hosting today, and the turnout was incredible. One of the highlights was getting to meet the owner and the entire team. The owner had never met me before but immediately showed so much support and emphasized how important it is to uplift small businesses. That meant a lot and really speaks to the heart behind this place. Now let's talk about the FOOD... because I'm a tough critic and a total foodie -- and everything exceeded my expectations! I personally ordered the buffalo chicken pita, and it was absolutely amazing. The pita bread was soft and fresh, and the buffalo chicken was melt-in-your-mouth good. Paired with the ranch, lettuce, and tomato... perfection. Everything else I ordered was spot on as well. I also have to mention how clean this place is and how welcoming the atmosphere feels. You can tell the team truly cares about the experience they provide. I highly recommend everyone give Detroit Coney Grill a try. Don't just take my word for it -- make the drive and treat yourself! I love the energy and atmosphere and it feels very welcoming even just walking up to the door. The server was very kind and friendly and he was very easy to talk to. Everyone in the kitchen works fast too, the wait time is very ideal for a sit-down restaurant. Now for the food itself, it was amazing. We had gotten the original burger, and double sliders with a side of fries and onion rings. I'm normally not a fan of onion rings, as I am a picky eater, but the flavor and texture of the rings here was just so spot on that I can already tell nowhere else will ever compare. The fries were perfectly salted, not too much and not too little. They had a perfect crisp to them too. The sauces weren't watery either, which I appreciated always. The burger itself was literally the bomb. It had the perfect amount of everything. I typically feel some places put tomatoes on burgers and the tomatoes just get to be too overpowering and out of place, but over here, they're very complimentary with all the other flavors you taste when you take a bite. The sliders were pretty simple, but still very enjoyable especially for a small bite if you aren't feeling an entire burger. Overall, 10/10. Would definitely recommend eating here if you're looking to try something different from the typical Arizona burgers.

Classic hamburger diner, Detroit style. The burgers are great, I really like the smashburgers with…read morenice crispy edges and tasty caramelized onions on a steamed bun. Very yummy. The 1/2 lb burgers are huge and you get a ton of taters tots on the side. The secret here, though, are the chicken sliders! The chicken and swiss cheese slider is absolutely phenomenal, it's exactly what I crave. I wanted the pizza slider also, but they were out of pepperoni. I would definitely get the sliders again, along with a burger. 2 burgers and 4 sliders with one soda for 2 adults + 1 kid was about $50, which is pretty expensive BUT we did not leave hungry (very important!). So the one caveat is that the place is small and if they get busy you are going to have to wait a while for your food. We waited 45 minutes at our table! There is one cook and one server, the vibe is VERY mom 'n pop, and they work their butts off but it can result in very slow service. Also thought it was weird that every kid at other tables got a coloring kit, but ours didn't. Also never got a soda refill. Chalk it up to so busy the waitress didn't notice. Not even gonna dock a star for that, this place deserves all its success.
