After spending much of the day exploring Old Town Scottsdale we decided to take a break and grab a bite and drink at the Brat Haus We were immediately blown away by the overall vibe of the place. You walk in and it really does feel like a lively bier garten. There's many sections, and most of it outdoors. The colors, furnishings, patio games, TVs, music, etc make it feel like a place you could relax for hours Their menu boasts an impressive 28 beers on tap (including imports). They also have a large variety of appetizers and other tasty dishes meals. These dishes are made from scratch and much of the cuisine is European inspired. You'll find a variety of brats, burgers, salads, etc. Everything we tried was fresh, flavorful, and hit the spot. We could have easily have spent many more hours there but there was more of Scottsdale to see Some tips: We went in the spring and it was absolutely gorgeous outside. It's now summer hours and it looks like they're adjusting their schedule accordingly. They are closed Mondays and Tuesdays. The rest of the days they're open 12-9pm (they open an hour earlier Saturday and Sunday, and they close an hour early on Sunday) Our server was incredible gracious, attentive, and professional. She gave us recommendations for the area and also food/drink to try You can make reservations, but we just did a walk-in. I think this more applies to larger groups as they're able to accommodate that. They also accommodate private parties (see their website) There appears to be a trivia night every Wednesday at 7pm. This "dog friendly" restaurant turned away my SERVICE dog saying no dogs are allowed over 100 degrees. Meanwhile it's a mister cooled patio environment. We were reluctantly let into the small inside eating area being followed by the manager after he stared unbelievingly at my ADA documentation. The manager was not reasonable with my sister when she explained he is welcome in public accommodations as a service animal; he glared at us until we walked out! I am a HUGE fan on Brat Haus but this discrimination is unacceptable especially with heat as an excuse on a water cooled patio bc of my invisible disability. EDIT: I have changed my 1 star to a 4 star review as I genuinely appreciate the owner's fair explanation/ accountability and do not want to inhibit this genuinely awesome restaurant from succeeding. I love my dog and I want him safe as well... but yes, this experience was NOT ideal. There were many shaded, misted patio areas with wet floors spots as it was a watery event. He would have been comfortable and safe on the ground, not in lap, if seated appropriately. There was not a large crowd for this event and therefore a LOT of room to accommodate. Heard good things about Brat Haus, and now I see why! Great location, a large patio, and solid food and drinks. They also host events throughout the week like trivia, which adds to the fun atmosphere. Dogs aren't just welcome, they're encouraged. They even do dog parties for $10 a tail, which is such a fun touch. The space itself is spacious with plenty of room for kids to run around, plus games like Jenga to keep everyone entertained. They had a ton of beer options. I got a flight with four beers, and as someone who loves barrel-aged beer, I was happy to see they had a couple options. Definitely more of a German-forward beer selection. We split the cheese tots and the poblano burger, and both were great. Next time I'm definitely trying the cheese curds. It had been nearly a decade since my last visit to this charming little bar and beer garden in Old Town, but it's still the same quality of food that I remember. Our group of five arrived on a weeknight at 7 PM without a reservation, and we were able to table a seat inside right away. A few of the beers we were interested in trying were no longer available, which is a bummer, but thankfully they had plenty of other options to choose from. We started with the Sauerkraut Balls (yum!) and the Large Pretzel, which is the perfect size to share among a large group. Second time here and it's a 5/5 every time. We live in Gilbert so whenever we have an excuse to visit Scottsdale...we always want to come here. Came on a Saturday afternoon--was seated quickly. It was a very nice day out. The outdoor seating area is always a vibe when the weather is right. My fiancé is the beer connoisseur--he always loves what he orders from here. For us--the food is just awesome. Nothing beats a good brat. I personally love the veggie plate for the pickled veggies...the things I would do for those pickled veggies!!!! I even ordered a side. Love the German beer selection here at Brat Haus. We came in late night and the service was quick thankfully. We ordered a few items to share - Dr Pepper ribs, hot wings, and the adult happy meal. My favorite part was the mini espresso from the adult happy meal, so creative and comical. The Weihenstephar beer was very light and refreshing went well with all the foods. The hot wings were a little too salty to finish. Sliders with the adult happy meal were overly sauced with mustard. The fries were good. Dr pepper ribs were the highlight of the night. Ambiance was casual. I love the outdoor seating area and indoor bar option. 3.5 star because the food quality didn't really match the price point. There was a lady that had posted on her own review that this place wasn't good for kids. So i was extremely paranoid since my kids aren't the best at staying still at any restaurant we go to. Esp with our friend's kid with us as well it's just a dangerous combo. But we had a great time and thankfully it was not a very busy Sunday night thank god. So as usual my kids did happen to wander a bit but our waitress was extremely nice and understanding. We feel like they changed the recipe for the pork schnitzel. My husband used to love ordering it years prior during spring training and he couldn't even get through half because he said it's not the same as it once was. My burger on the other hand was decent. He made us incredible espresso martinis, opened the bar early so we could grab drinks, and truly went above and beyond. Instead of just saying sorry, he literally gave her the shirt off his back for free--which was such an unforgettable and thoughtful gesture. Stopped here on a whim when in the area on a Saturday afternoon. The vibe was enjoyable. Since I was traveling alone, I opted to sit at the bar. I think the bartender's name was Jessica and she was very pleasant. Great conversation and service across the board. Great beer selection here. I had the Chicken Jalapeño Cheddarwurst with the Belgian Style fries. Both were excellent and the portions were just the right size: I didn't leave hungry and I didn't feel overwhelmed. Dog friendly with water and treats for them. You can pay a yearly fee to have a beer stein custom engraved with discounts while your stein is active. We were sat on the patio area where there was no cover so things was falling down onto our table from a tree (we were the ONLY people sat there). The same server who was supposed to be our server sat other guest right beside us brought them waters & started taking orders immediately didn't say a word to us. We were recently in Scottsdale and had our dogs with us so decided to stop here for an early dinner. They are dog-friendly and their patio area is huge with lots of space. We had about a 15 minute wait, which was fine...well worth the wait!!! We didn't realize it but we had arrived during Happy Hour and they offer free dog brats! Of course the girls were all about diving into those! Wife had the Weihenstephan Hefeweissbie Beer, which she loved. It was at the suggestion of our server and it was spot on, she said. Wife ordered the pretzel bites, which we both had previously and loved them. They come with a beer cheese dip that is out of this world! She also ordered the Port Apple Gouda brat, which she loved. She reports that it was juicy and a bit on the sweet side because of the apple but the gouda balanced it all out. She also had fries, well done and no complaints! I wasn't in the mood for a dog so ordered the Double Animal, which is a double cheeseburger and of course, had to get extra pickles! Great place to have dinner on a Friday night. We sat outside on the patio at one of the wooden tables. I did enjoy sitting outside but I didn't like that the bench was not able to be adjusted - I was too far away from the table and that made it difficult to eat. We started with the pretzel bites. The pretzel bites were pretty good but the beer cheese was great. I got the cheeseburger and really enjoyed it. The burger has a great flavor and the onion jam adds a nice sweetness. Jamie is the best waitress I've ever had. We've been here about 49,000 times, I love their specialty sausages, especially when they add some jalapeños in there. Their wings are interesting butter and Sriracha. They soak up the beer as well as anything else does. Watch out for those 9.9% alcohol beers, though, they hit you hard and then you get into conversations with people you wish you hadn't met and shared your number with. My one complaint is that they let people have their children, dear the ping-pong, tables, and us older folks who are actually really good at playing can't get near the tables. It is a beer place, for adult adults, so maybe they should separate the kids side an adult side so that the adults can get away from those jumping, screaming bouncing kids. As for the beer, there's a lot of options, and the staff seemed knowledgeable on what would work for everyone's tastes. Excited to try their famous Pretzel Bites, the manager would not honor a free coupon that did not specify Dine In only being his reason for not excepting the coupon. My argument is based on principle that it did not indicate that it was for dine in only. So I will not eat at this restaurant after the manager had no reason why he would not honor a $3 free order of pretzel bites To Go. Do not trust their promotion, they make up the rules as they go along.
