Steer clear of this company and here's why: 1. The cooling system for the computer I ordered did not fit the case properly and instead of providing a cooler that fit, they jammed it in with screws at 45 degree angles. The radiator fans do not even sit flush with the case. 2. The computer was not wired properly...the power button was not even connected. 3. The processor was dead on arrival, despite the fact that the computer was supposedly tested for three days before being shipped. This ended up costing me about $100 at my local computer store to diagnose. 4. Portatech did provide me with a replacement processor, however they billed my credit card company $364.99 (The price of the processor) without notifying me that I was being charged and certainly without my consent. I have attempted to contact them about the charge via phone and email for two days and have received no response. Their support phone line takes me to a voicemail inbox that is full and tells me to call back later and I have had no response to my emails. Clearly I am going to be forced to contest the charge with my credit card company. This is probably the worst shopping experience I have ever had. read more

Amazing pricing and I don't have to connect the case to the motherboard, or install the processor. The cheap Chinese motherboard I bought seems to hold up really well. It games on extreme graphics and never lags. The stuff I picked out was all top of the line except for the ssd and motherboard and it seems to function perfectly. I had to fuck with the biostar processor fan settings and calibrate them properly and format my own hard drive and put in my own ram but I like building shit and this was a nice start so I didn't have to do everything from scratch. The shipping was quite slow but I didn't mind waiting. Overall I was very satisfied with what they sent. I told them I was using it for gaming so they sent me a gaming motherboard to fit my graphics card at no extra cost instead of the baseline one. They knew their shit basically. With the prices they have it is hit or miss. The parts they put in my shit all seemed new but possibly refurbished, that's why some people have problems and others don't read more

In the last several years I've bought three computers from Portatech and they all have worked perfectly. I bought one for work, one for home use and most recently, one for my son who is a gamer and engineering student. I got a smoking fast system that is stable and a workhorse. My son needed something heavy duty for his engineering software and of course wanted something that had excellent graphics and speed for his games. He is thrilled with the system and I love that it didn't break the bank. The order process was easy and the computer came quickly. I loved that we could configure everything online and get a completely customized system. It was a breeze to set up. Windows was already installed and the drivers were loaded. We especially like that it didn't have any junk-wear so when we turned it on it went straight to the windows screen. Everything worked right away. My son says it has made a positive difference in his game because it is so fast. I highly recommend this company! read more

Paid extra to have them build and set up so all I needed to do was insert my RAM and GPU and go, took 28 days to show up, hardware not attached properly, nothing is set up correctly. Ordered a computer on July 5. No delivery and no response after several days of emails and customer web form inquiries. Phone calls just give you a mailbox is full message each day. Had to file a claim with my credit card company. I agree with others it's odd that they seem to have been around a while and have these recent complaints of payment with no delivery and no communication. One of the worst experiences with an online purchase in recent memory. Before and after placing my order I took note of the estimated delivery dates, after payment was complete their website said I should expect a shipping update with a tracking number as soon as the order was shipper. (2-3 days). 2 day before my order was supposed to arrive I still had not received any shipping information. I tried to contact their support without luck. The number they have is usually voicemail even during their stated customer support hours. After many tries I managed to get a hold of someone from this company, who looked up the tracking and shipping information and sent it to me. When my order arrived I discovered a range of issues. They claim that they test the hardware before shipping. This is a lie or if they have someone doing any testing they evidently skip some of the orders. The SSD was not formatted properly, it was not recognized by the BIOS or during windows install. I had to plug in an additional HD with a bootable OS to fix the SSD issues and get an OS running on this machine. The PSU was not secured properly and was sticking out in an awkward angle, another easy fix but I would have expected something this simple to have been taken care of. The biggest issue was the GTX 960 graphics card does not work. I tried it in another machine, still not working. I put in an old 550Ti to see if it's maybe something else, no my 550 got instantly recognized. After many tries and voicemails I got on the phone with their "support" person. After explaining the situation and the trouble shooting steps I had already taken he had me running through nonsense hoops of unplugging the monitor, plugging it back in and the sorts. One would imagine that in a situation like this there would be a simple and easy process to return or exchange a defective peace of hardware. Not with these folks. They did not send any of the manufacturer warranty paperwork. If something doesn't work you have to mail it back to them, at your expense, fill out a bunch of forms that they request and wait to see if something happens. In short, they make a refund/return next to impossible. I have accepted that they sold me broken equipment and I will never see a refund or exchange. read more

The supervisor was no help at all did not want hear our side and was very sarcastic you guys need to step up on your customer service and not play games like children like we are bad people. Customers come first, if we are having trouble aid us, don't bicker back & forth. I run a business & that's not how you treat someone who is basically paying you money to pay your billsite with. Portatech is one of the MANY names this company goes by. In researching DIY barebones PC kits, they were questionably priced. Their "upgrades" were, many times, double what the street prices were for name brand products! They sell old chips and charge top dollar for them. While the folks at awful big-box places like "Tiger Direct" come up with two or three deals at a time that annihilate PortaTech. These guys are also known as PC Boost, 1st Choice Memory and Universal Memory... Be weary of a company that has to brand itself so many different ways! I should note that the TigerDirect system I bought was configured with a superior motherboard (featuring upgrades to SATA III & USB 3, HDMI/DVI-D outputs, etc.), superior-performing memory, superior spec'd DVD writer, a much, much better case, quieter fans, more powerful power supply, 40GB SSD + 500GB HDD etc. You get where I am going with this... $473 by Portatech (again, not as good in features & quality minus the SSD, which was faster than the one I got) $268 by Tiger Direct Their snippy attitude and their higher pricing says "Run away!" as loud as anything could. They don't take AmEx, which also screams "unhappy customers" as AmEx will protect its clients by charging back bad sellers. You've been warned. read more

Absolutely avoid these guys! I ordered a custom pc, and "wireless keyboard and mouse". I received the mouse/keyboard combo first. What I got was a cheap, Logitech MK270 priced at over $40 (list price is $27.99). When I contacted customer service, they were vague and dismissive. They said, well we pay $10 for shipping so I don't think the mark up is that much...but I PAID FOR SHIPPING!! After looking through the hoops that I have to jump through just to return the keyboard, I decided to cancel shipment on my custom build pc. It's definitely not work the risk! read more

The worst customer service and online company I've ever dealt with. Just needed a barebones PC, motherboard, processor, case, and a powersupply. Received the first computer in 2 weeks, and motherboard was DOA. I thought they were supposed to test them? It was one of the reasons we went this route. Shipped back everything, case, the whole thing, paid $60 in shipping because we didn't want to mess anything up by just returning the motherboard. Received it back. SECOND MOBO was defective. Worked for a couple of days and then nothing. This time we shipped back just the motherboard. NOW THEY WON'T PROVIDE A REFUND BECAUSE THEY'RE CLAIMING THE MOBO WAS DAMAGED. IT STOPPED WORKING 2 DAYS AFTER WE GOT IT, SO YES IT WAS DAMAGED, BECAUSE THEY DAMAGED IT! On top of that, they wanted me to return the I/O shield because I mistakenly forgot to include it, promptly sent it back, and then got an email saying they were returning the entire motherboard back. NO ONE CALLED US TO HELP US RESOLVE THE ISSUE, OR DISCUSS THE DAMAGE FURTHER. THEY JUST SHIPPED IT BACK. Customer service was extremely short bad tempered and interrupted me frequently. Ordered computer, arrived only to freeze all the time. Had to ship back. Working slightly better, but still freezes - just not nearly as frequently. Not comped for me having a broken computer on arrival and having to ship back within a month-half of having it - and will have to probably ship back again, yay! read more
