We came to Portal Park today with my brother & his 2 kids. Really fun time! The park had plenty of shade with lots of big trees. That helped a LOT as today was a warm afternoon. This park is very cute & fun! We arrived around 2 pm so there was street parking available. Around 3 pm quite a few other families started showing up with their kids. I saw a few birthday parties & BBQ's. I would definitely recommend this park for families nearby and such. My niece (4 years old) and nephew (2 years old) both had a really fun time playing on the swings and slides. The shade is great, and there are also picnic tables. read more

A cute little park in Cupertino called Portal Park. It's really functional in a friendly neighborhood. I came here to enjoy a bowl of soup because the restaurant closed their dining room. My favorite spot is the top of hill in the corner overseeing the entire park. There are so many BBQ grills match up with groups of picnic tables. So nice to see few picnics happening during the middle of the week. While there is no parking lot for the park, not difficult to find street parking. There is a bigger park called Wilson Park across Stevens Creek. But I prefer Portal Park during the weekdays. read more

Great park for kids of all ages! 3 separate playgrounds in closer proximity so easy for parents to see their children play. Has swings, slides, and structures! (Which apparently many playground don't have anymore.) There is even a big sand pit for kids to enjoy - with cemented areas for adults to monitor. Big grass fields for picnicking, gathering, and playing. Easy to bring your own tables and canopies/tents to take advantage of the big space. Also large trees around the park to provide natural shade too! There is a BBQ area available for reservations (through Cupertino Parks and Rec). Two tables are chained together in the center of the middle playground area for additional non-reservation seating - love this space because there is shade and right in the middle. The little kid playground also has a bench available. There is a single-stall restroom (separate women's and men's), which is usually kept very clean. I have found the paper towels and soap and stocked regularly too. read more

Very spacious area , clean bathrooms and grass. The women's room has better decor. The humor in the bathroom seems better. I didn't go in I just know from the person I came with. The men's room however from my experience definitely needs more then once stall. This kid was taking forever. They have two separate playgrounds so the older and younger ones don't play together. The grass was soo nice that it made me sleepy. Oh wait there's a third playground I think also. I am not sure what that areas all about. This is a great date place. The bbq pits are really cool here. The good: There are three large playground areas with a lot of interesting equipment! They have slides built into the ground, a giant sandbox, and a toddler playground. There are a few picnic areas but the larger one is reservable online. The large one has several BBQ areas too. There's a large open field here that's great for picnics. It's a medium sized park. The bad: The picnic area is gravel/pebbles and dirt so it can get pretty dusty and messy (with kids especially). They recently cut down 2 trees in the picnic area so there is a lot less shade there now. The interesting: Bounce houses aren't allowed here. read more

This park has a lot of shade and bunch of concrete tables with a barbecue pit area. There's two different playgrounds and a nice grassy open field. I like how there's a little bit of a hillside towards the main street/portal Avenue, to seclude the children/families that are playing. read more

This is a decent small park. There is not much of a trail or pathway to run or walk but can see it being popular with kids/parents since it has 3 play areas. Was not a big fan of the teens taking over the kid's play areas though doing parkour-like activities along side the little kids. read more

Beautiful, well shaded park with 3 huge play structures. There is a toddler structure, though it is not enclosed. There's clean restrooms (though no changing table), and pretty large fields that are dog friendly (poop bags provided !). We have fun just sitting under the trees making daisy bracelets There are plenty of picnic tables and some grills as well. No designated parking lot- but there is street parking, which is mostly unshaded. read more

This is one of our favorite parks because it has a ton of shade in the afternoon! There are lots of trees surrounding the toddler playground. Some parts of the sand and grassy areas are also shaded. The toddler section has 2 baby swings, 2 stand-alone slides, and a ride-on toy. In addition to the toddler area, there are 2 other play structures for older children. There are bathrooms available and some street parking. Whenever we visit during the week, I don't have any trouble finding a parking spot. read more

This park is awesome. It's very big and in the middle of a quiet neighborhood. My favorite thing about the park is the fact that there are 3 different t play structures and they're all suited to different ages. One of the structures is great for toddlers so if you have kids in different age range this would work great. I expected a lot of kids to be there though and there was literally no one when we went. So if you have an extroverted kids who wants to play with others this park may not be for you. read more

Pretty cool spot for children and family gatherings. Bae found this spot and we went all out to enjoy the summer weather. Right next to our son's school. Brought our lounge chairs, ice coolers, picnic mats and our empty stomach. There isn't a basketball court but a lot of grass area to touch up a tent and volleyball net. Plenty of shade too. This is one of the best residential parks that I have seen in Cupertino!!! It is clean, open and has a lot of fun playgrounds for children of all ages. There are a lot of shady areas for picnics and for playing sports. I highly recommend this park for any new moms looking to enjoy a park date with your friends and/or family. ENJOY! read more

This is a great park for families with young children (school-aged and younger). There are 3 play grounds, each for different age groups, and they're very close to one another. There is a great sand area too. There is a little path that some kids bike on and it recently got paved, but it's still really bumpy! I thought they were going to smooth it over, but no, they just put a new thin layer over it, but kept the bumps and all. There's is a hilly area with a couple picnic tables. Near one of the playgrounds, there is a larger area with a lot of picnic tables that people often have birthday parties at. I think you need to reserve these picnic tables, but not the ones at the top of the hill - those are first come, first served. Next to this park is Bright Horizons and I think many people going to this park park in the Bright Horizons parking lot, or right on the street. Also, there are a lot of big trees so on nice days, it's a great place to bring a blanket and a picnic and just enjoy the outdoors! For dog owners, make sure your dog is on leash at this park. Neighbors in the area have been known to call animal control on people who have their dogs off-leash in this park. However, right next to the park is the new location of Collins Elementary school and their field is just feet from Portal Park and I often let my dogs off leash there with no problem. If you park on the street, go through the park with your dog, there's a little path (the bumpy one most kids bike on) that goes to the school's field and it's very easy to find. I really recommend this park for people with children because of the great playgrounds and an okay place to bring your dog. I know it's technically illegal for you to have your dog off-leash, but if your dog is well-behaved, I think it should be okay to have your dog off-leash. However, that's not the case and I guess the neighbor's have the right to call animal control. But hey, it happens since there isn't a dog park in Cupertino! *hint* *hint* City of Cupertino. read more

I like that this park has a bathroom, 3 different play structures for different ages of kids, and enough grass to run around. I don't like the sand pit (since my daughter takes home pounds of sand in her shoes and hair) and that the picnic tables are far away from the toddler play area. Granted, it's a small park so nothing is too far, but still. Also a safety plus, the side close to the street has sections of fence to deter kids form wandering into the street. This park is great and good for all ages because there are 3 separate playgrounds. The smaller one for toddlers is nice and shady with a big sand area. What's best is the huge grassy area with little hills and trees in the back so little ones can go running and exploring for golf balls or miscellaneous items that kids seem to find so interesting! read more

I discovered this park through a friend, who threw a party for her son using the one gigantic BBQ grill closest to the daycare center. I continue to bring my toddler son there, mostly because on weekday mornings it is hardly ever crowded and they have a really nice toddler play structure for him to climb. Lots and lots and lots of grass to let loose on. I see the occasional mother's group meetings on the grass, Japanese moms at the picnic tables, and always a bunch of happy little kids running around. The biggest plus - if you live in Cupertino and tend to go to Memorial Park - there is no goose poop on the grass - so go ahead and roll around with your kid in it! read more

Great Park! Plenty of play areas for kids of different ages. Big sand area. Lots or grassy areas. I would have given it a 5 stars but it's beginning to become 'Goose Poop Park'. Goose poop is everywhere. I was trying to teach my daughter to ride her bike there this morning on the grass - now the bike tires are covered with goose poop, my shoes - covered with goose poop, my daughters shoes - covered with goose poop. It's everywhere at this park. It's becoming like Memorial Park. If the city of Cupertino could find a way to reduce the poop everywhere this place would have 5 stars again. read more

While some parks impress with their expanses of green, the intimate (3.8 acres) Portal Park wins families over with its terrific playgrounds. There are three in all, with newer structures, each for a different age group. I love taking my daughter there because the playground for the youngest children is completely shaded, so I don't have to bake in the sun while pushing her on the baby swings. There's also a lovely sand area atop a hill that has built-in slides. This is not really the place to have a massive barbecue picnic, as there are only a few picnic facilities, but kids wanting to climb and play will love it. Just be aware that it can get crowded with moms and strollers. It's great for meeting other kids and parents, but not so much for solitude. read more
