This place was actually so unexpected. I've never really heard of Stevens Creek but decided to come by and walk around the reservoir and was very happy about the experience. Here are some highlights: - There are multiple different places to park, which were all free. - The place is actually beautiful especially as it is nested around a couple of mountains. The water itself was also so clear which was unexpected. - The walk itself is pretty easy although heads up, you cannot complete the loop so you do have to go back to where you started. I will say though that there are definitely some bugs on the trail but nothing that will bite you, haha. Overall, highly recommend especially if you have about 30 minutes to 1 hour to kill. There's also not many people so it is very relaxed. read more

Since the majority of family lives in the Bay Area, naturally our family reunion is here every 5 years or so. Our usual location in Saratoga wasn't available so my cousin found this location. It was excellent! We had reserved the Sycamore picnic area for the day and it provided plenty of shade on this lovely summer day. The tables were covered with a roof. Plenty of parking for our families although we couldn't figure out how to pay the parking fee. Not near a playground but we brought board games for the kids and baseball gloves to play catch. I don't remember if there were dumpsters to dispose the garbage but we cleaned up ready for the next family to hold their reunion. Definitely recommend! read more

We did the Stevens Canyon Trail which was a beautiful 6.5mi loop. It is definitely a moderate trail which for me was a challenging hike. We started the trail going left which mostly were steep inclines. It was just forever going upwards for what seemed like more than half of that trail before the descent and back up again at the end. Some parts of the trail was right at the edge of ravines because of erosion. I think for people who are not too steady or tend to be on the clumsy side, this is not the trail to test your balance. Best part of course is the view of the reservoir. It's very lovely to experience such scenery in the Bay Area. The parking lot doesn't open until 8am so if you go early, there is a little room at the 2nd gate where people park on the side of the road. I very much enjoyed this trail and would do another hike when the opportunity arises again. read more

This park is such a beauty! Not only is the reservoir radiant, but the hiking trails that meander through this park are stunning. It's so green and filled with vibrant ferns, wildflowers, and tall shady trees. Most of the trails are shaded which makes for a perfect summer adventure. This park connects to nearby Fremont Older Open Space Preserve which allows for a number of diverse trail connections. There are so many beautiful wooded groves and fun places to relax while taking in the views of Stevens Creek. Lots of picnic tables located throughout this park too. With how heavy of a drought that we're in, the reservoir is a lot lower than it's ever been. But, it still striking with its' undeniable aqua hue. The hiking trails range from easy to moderate and are perfect for kids and families. They keep it extremely clean here and this includes their restrooms which are located at the parking lot. Speaking of parking; there's lots of it! No need to squander around looking for parking as there is ample street parking here too. I embarked on a 6.5 mile loop trail known as the Stevens Canyon Trail and it was extremely enjoyable. This trail first meanders through Fremont Older Open Space Preserve and then loops back into Stevens Creek County Park. These parks are super close to each other and easily connectable through many different trailheads. Although I liked the Fremont Older portion of this hike, I truly enjoyed the portion that tan through this park so much more. It's so green and picturesque. It also seemed less crowded and more peaceful than Fremont Older. It makes you feel like you are truly escaping the hustle and bustle of the city life. But yeah... this park has all the vibes. It's all season kind of park that has something to offer for everyone. read more

The TonY Look Trail to Steven Creeks Loop Trail was beautiful lush green out-and-back hike. I saw trees growing out of the reservoir and two turtles in the water. An easy hike with well maintained roads and minimum loose rocks. There was only one steep part in the first 5 mins of the hike and the rest was an easy stroll. I saw 3 benches on the way up if breaks are needed. The hike was only partially shaded, so wear sunscreen and stay hydrated. read more

Really beautiful and easy hike!! We were looking for something low key, in the neighborhood and scenic - this park and hiking trail met all our criteria. Except, wasn't too thrilled about paying $6 in parking fees. This was our first time visiting the park and we didn't know better, but it looks like others had found a way to park on the street for free, but on the other side of the park...not super obvious, but I guess you'll find it if you drive around a bit. When you find the street parking you will not enter the park from the main entrance but I guess that's fine as long as you hit the trail and the lake view one way or another This hike is super easy - kids friendly, dog friendly, good for picnics, runners and bikers. This is likely to be our go-to hike when we are looking for something low key, easy peazy...just a relaxing walk in the park...not really a hike like a workout if that's what you are looking for. The views all around are beautiful and the park is well maintained! Love it and highly recommend it! read more

Nice place for a hike as it is one of the few places in the area that is dog friendly! The trails also connect to Fremont Older Preserve which is also dog friendly. The trails are pretty steep with rolling hills on some of them, so make for a great work-out! I would definitely leave strollers and young kids at home. There's lovely scenes of not just the town, but also the lush mountain backdrop. I came on a weekday morning around 10 am and barely ran into anyone except for a few people at the trailhead. Seems like from other reviews people thought it was very crowded on the weekends. There are some areas that are shaded, but most of the trails are pretty sunny so definitely put on all your sun protection! There's a few ways to access the trails. There is a parking lot to the address Yelp leads you, but next time I'm actually going to park at the address to Villa Maria Disc Golf Course since many of the major trails start there, and those lots are bigger as well. I actually wandered around for a while running into the main streets before finding the actual trails. It's clearer from the golf course parking lot. Parking is currently free, but I saw a sign that they will start charging $6 beginning of April 2021. There are picnic tables near both parking lots, but most of them are currently stacked up and not available for use. Restrooms are currently closed as well. read more

Lots of parking in the main lot before 9am on a Sunday, even when we left at 12:30pm there were several spots available. There are a few other lots further down from the main parking lot too! I think we followed the Lookout Trail for the most part. While there are times when you are in the shade, there are many uncovered areas/incline (bring a hat!) It's a moderately trafficked park so if you want to avoid others, definitely go in the morning hours. Sometimes the trail gets really narrow so you'll have to share the road with people coming towards you. Dogs allowed on leash. Watch out for all kinds of animal poop (dogs, horses, etc) read more

Beautiful forest wilderness, just up the hill from an Apple campus and the hustle and bustle of the Silicon Valley. Important to note, there is more than one "area" of Stevens Creek. It has multiple parking lots spread out over about 3 mile stretch of Stevens Canyon Road. If you are meeting friends for a picnic or group hike, you will want to know exactly which area you are going to. If you put the address into GPS, it will only take you to one of the 8 gates! This park has many picnic areas, hiking trails for a variety of skill and fitness levels, a Reservoire open to non-motorized boats, kayaks, and paddle boards, a disc golf course, visitor center, and and archery range. Another important note, while there is fishing in both the reservoir and Stevens Creek, there is no swimming or wading allowed, so this is not a good place for a creek walk. My favorite spot is the Cooley picnic area. This small picnic area has some of the largest, oldest, oak trees I've ever seen and the benches seat you right underneath them, creekside. There is a $6 parking fee for all of the parking lots. Unfortunately there are only two pay stations in two of the several parking lots. If you end up at the top, you have to go back like two miles to pay for your parking. I suggest just getting the annual parking pass for Santa Clara County Parks. It works at all of the parks for a full year after purchase. Then you never need to worry if you needed to pay or not! read more

Open for walking & cycling during COVID-19 and parking is free! It was busy but not crowded on Memorial Day 2020 but I arrived at 8:30 am and was gone by 10:30 am. There was plenty of parking at each of the main lots, however, most of it is in direct sun. There are various trails and the map was hard to understand but once you are walking there are guide posts that name the trails and the distance. The reservoir looked empty from up top. Most of the trails we did were under direct sunlight which is why I gave it 4 stars. There were also a lot of cyclists who wouldn't ring their bells or yell "on your left" so I would recommend being ready to move to the side as soon as you hear zooming behind you. This makes for social distancing a bit challenging if you have someone with you. I also saw a lot of people with small kids doing the trails closest to the parking lot. There is flexibility to do some low impact walking to full on uphill workouts. Check it out! read more

My husband and I love hiking, so we were really happy when we saw that the weather was going to be so great this weekend! We have not been to Stevens Creek yet, so we decided to give it a go. There is a 6 mile loop that is a pretty easy hike (still gets your heart rate going in some places, but we never had to take a break), and you're rewarded with a stunning view of bay area. The trails are really well maintained and the parking was surprisingly empty. It is $6 to park, which is fairly reasonable with how maintained the trails are. It's always nice getting away from the sound of traffic and hearing the sound of birds and wind instead, and Steven's Creek gave that to us! read more

Beautiful county park if you're looking for a nice 5 or 6 mile hike through the woods. There looked to be plenty of trails and space to explore. This park is super cool. There is a reservoir in the back if you go far enough. Sadly, we are in a drought and it's not as full as usual. The trails and park is great for hiking or walking. Some trails get super steep but the nature here is great. It is a good place to go for quiet and not many people come here. There's also picnic spots but the trails are huge and it goes on and on. I couldn't even travel though the whole park. Definitely would like to come back. read more

We came as soon as it opened because my bf heard it was popular and can get pretty busy during the day. It did get pretty busy around 10am. Oh and it's a dog friendly hike too! We got kinda lost haha we didn't know where the trail started and there was no map anywhere. Luckily a ranger asked us if we needed any help and gave us a map. We went on the main trail since we wanted to reach the peak of the hike so we could oversee the bay. The peak isn't actually the peak.. We were trying to go the Maisie's peak but there were a lot of dangerous areas.. There were fallen trees, super slippery areas that you couldn't avoid, and there was a mud slide that blocked the trail to get to the peak. There was no railing so we ended up not going. We'll probably give it another try when the weather gets hotter. read more

Not to be confused with Upper Stevens Creek County Park (which is to the southwest and so named because of its higher elevation). OVERVIEW: ------------------- Stevens Creek County Park has a lot to offer, including picnic areas, a scenic reservoir, and moderate inclines that will give your legs a workout! The park connects to Picchetti Ranch Open Space Preserve to the west, and Fremont Older Open Space Preserve to the east. PARKING: ------------------- There are limited pockets of free parking along Stevens Canyon Road, and paid parking lots ($6) to the north of the reservoir at the start of the Tony Look Trail. I don't mind paying to park here, because it goes to support the park and the location is convenient, and I don't have to fight with other cars unlike over at Fremont Older. TRAILS: ------------------- The Tony Look Trail runs along the eastern side of the reservoir and the creek that feeds into it. During the drought last year, the reservoir was pretty low and the creekbed was dried up, so it's a nice sight with the rains this year to see the creek starting to fill up again. To the north, the Tony Look Trail connects to the Coyote Ridge Trail, where a 200 foot ascent takes you into Fremont Older. To the south, the Tony Look Trail takes you past the Madrone and Sycamore Group Areas, which are reservable picnic areas. The trail then connects to the Lookout Trail going into Fremont Older. I enjoy hiking this 7-mile loop between Stevens Creek and Fremont Older. The variation in scenery is pleasant and the hill climbing is moderate but manageable. The length of the hike is perfect - long enough for a good workout, but short enough that if you start in the morning, you'll be done and hungry by lunchtime! read more

Stevens Creek County Park is another beautiful park in the Santa Clara County Park System. The park connects to Fremont Older Open Space Preserve. However, Steven's Creek County Park is better known for the Steven's Creek Reservoir, which is right out front next to the parking lot. This park has a small little parking lot right out front on Stevens Canyon Road. There are also other parking lots where you can pay to park. I believe it is $6 in these lots. The trail I enjoy the most is the Tony Look Trail, which circles the reservoir. It is a very nice, flat, well shaded in some areas, trail. You can see lots of wildlife and families hanging out and fishing by the reservoir's edge. It makes for an easy walk or jog. I usually do not come here for any serious (think Mission Peak) hiking. This trail does not connect back to the beginning of the reservoir, so you have to go back the same way you came to get to the beginning. There are a variety of water activities you can do on the reservoir such as kayaking and paddling. I believe you are able to rent them if it is in season. Very beautiful and worth a visit if you have never been. read more

This is a great park! Several options for routes but plan your hike or take a map because it also connects to Fremont Old Preserve. Some of the trails are very narrow with poison oak so passing others can be tricky. There is usually parking (even on the weekends) with lots of pull out areas near the reservoir. It is a nice mix of sunny and shaded areas making the hikes enjoyable even on a warm day. Be aware of the wildlife, today I came across a rattlesnake on the trail but usually only see deer and lizards. read more

Visited one of the trails here today and got some beautiful views of all of the peninsula and even San Francisco and the bay. Quite a bit of uphill with mud because of the constant rain, but it was totally worth it. The views were amazing and the hiking path was still in good condition considering the wet season. Determining an ASS-kicking hike: 1) Heart pumping, sweat inducing & 1 bottle of water was not enough. 2) Body still sore two days post-hike. 3) HIP joints are sore from all the steep grades. 4) A thick layer of dirt formed on our bodies. Grab a map before the hike up, b/c the trails do not funnel into e/o. Remember SINGLE file! The trails can get narrow. I didn't look down-heights freak me out. The tough parts are shady and the easier portions are in the scorching sun. read more

Terrific trails here with plenty of parking, lovely picnic areas, and clean restrooms, and it's dog friendly, as they even offer poop bags. We had to pay $6, but worth it for 3 of us for 4 hours of activity. Pay station was so convenient, accepting credit cards. I especially liked the trails where horses and bikes are not allowed. So close to civilization, pretty much keep going down Stevens Creek Blvd toward Cupertino hills. Will definitely return! read more

Lakeside walks are pretty rare in the Bay Area, so walking along the shoreline of Stevens Creek Reservoir is a treat. For some reason though, the Tony Look trail veers away from the lakeshore for most of its length, depriving you of the views and adding unnecessary elevation gain in the process. So if you really want to get your lake fix, you might just want to grab a kayak instead; it looked pretty tempting. But note that the water is pretty low in the summer. Also, you can make a nice 5-6 mile loop hike from here by heading up the hill into Fremont OSP. read more

This is one of my favorite hiking trails in South Bay! There is plenty of shade on the Tony Lookout Trail. I love the view of the reservoir and how easily accessible you are to it on the trail. My dog ran into the water a few times to take a dip! There are a couple of people fishing on the side. There are warning signs about the Mercury found in water, so don't drink, swim, or eat the fish you catch! You can also rent kayaks and paddle boards on the reservoir. While hiking on the Tony Lookout Trail, I could hear a ton of gunshots from the shooting range across the way. I wasn't too bothered, but I could see how it could be annoying. This trail wasn't too strenuous, but my 50 year old dad who is out of shape, could not finish it. After the first hill, it's flat by the reservoir, then there is a series of inclines. I didn't see much of a view after the inclines, but maybe I didn't go far enough. I wish there was a water fountain for the pooches. There are also a ton of foxtails and prickly seeds that catch onto your clothes and your dog's fur. Watch out. This park had plenty of signs. Not sure why everyone keeps saying there aren't any. The posts are small and skinny, but it's typical for a hiking trail. I hate paying for parking, but I couldn't find he free street parking the other reviewers were talking about. The closest one would have been in the residential area and would take at least 30 min to walk from and to the start of the trail. I drove up from S Foothill Blvd which turns into Stevens Canyon Rd. The entrance is on your left. There are two parking spots: the first one has the parking tickets and once you pay, you can move to the second parking lot that has more shade! I like the second parking lot because it's closer to the bathroom with a water fountain and closer to the Tony Lookout trail. I think it's worth paying the $6 for parking. After a long hike, I just want to jump in the car and head home. I would definitely come back again to check out the water sports. There's another entrance down Stevens Canyon Rd for that. read more

I kind of discovered this by hitting up Pichetti and Ridge up in the hills. After heading down we hung out to be in nature. Nice open space, sunny day and lots of folks walking through. The beauty of this side of Silicon Valley is that there are many open space reserves like this, all interconnected. Just one of many great areas to enjoy away from the city. read more

If you want to park by the reservoir, then entry fee is $6 for all day parking. There are several trail going deep in the mountains. Farms, wineries, horse back riding, etc. also fishing by the creek. I did see a few no fishing signs by the water indicating the water contains mercury and may be harmful to human bodies.... but having a little leisure time to fish and let it back in the water does no harm. The reservoir itself it not as beautiful as the ones I've seen, and the roads has constant cars passing by. If you're looking for peace and quiet time by the water, you can forget it. Going up the trails, there are some small water streams coming down the mountains, the scenery is not too impressive but the sound is just as beautiful as the others. This is a huge national park and it's got plenty of locations to explore. read more

Dog friendly hiking trail! The trail was not too strenuous for our pup to join us. Not sure if this was just me, but finding the trail head was very confusing. Our GPS brought us to this parking lot, but we couldn't' find the trail head. We walked back to our car, and moved our car about 0.5 mile and found the trail head. I think I need to come back to give this park a second chance. I must have missed something... Found this place searching on Yelp for a place to go for hike since first place we went to was crowded and couldn't find parking. Lots of parking spaces. There where 2 different lots for parking from what I saw. Saw many people on walks with their dogs. Trail signs wasn't too clear and visible in my opinion. We just wondered around. There was disc golf course, I think that's what it's called but there wasn't any obvious signs around and so we were waking around and was informed by someone that it's not a hiking place and you might get hit by the disc golf.
