This is one of many trails at Stevens Creek County Park and the surrounding area. I parked along Stevens Canyon Road where there is limited free parking. There are also several different parking lots available for a fee (Rim Trail, Stevens Creek Chestnut, etc.). I went running here on Saturday, and though there was a bit of mud along the dirt path, I was lucky to catch a few hours of sunshine on this winter day. The Tony Look Trail is flatter and easier than other trails in the area, with manageable inclines. Alongside the flowing creek, it leads to and wraps around the Stevens Creek Reservoir until it connects to the Loop Trail. At that point, staying on Tony Look would entail more zigzagging than I was in the mood for, especially with the forecasted rains, so I split onto the Loop Trail to continue further along the water, before trekking back. There was lots of beautiful scenery to explore and appreciate, as well as a few park benches among the trees and greenery. I didn't encounter any animals nor pesky flying insects during my recent run, and there were very few people too. Great out and back trail. The trail map says 45 minutes for a 2.5 mile walk, but plan for a little longer if you bring a dog. Puppy needs time to sniff right? Stevens creek was running even during the drought. The reservoir was very low and closed to all water activities. You could see the boat ramp high and dry. But we've kayaked here before, and it's a nice spot. AllTrails says it's an easy hike, but there is one steep section. The rest is fairly flat. There's a nice mix of shade and sunny parts of the trail. There are a few benches along the way to admire the view. read more

Beautiful trail! We were able to walk a good mile or so with a stroller before it went up hill which was more than an enough with a 16 month old! Only downside is that you have to pay for parking which is $10 if I remember correctly. read more

Horses are prey animals and are not used to sudden movements or loud noises. If you encounter a horse while biking, it's best to slow down and talk to the rider before passing, especially if you're moving at high speed. This will help the horse understand that you are not a threat. It's also crucial that you prevent your dogs from chasing horses, as a kick from a horse can be fatal for a dog. Please refrain from bringing an umbrella on the trail, as this could also spook the horses. As equestrians, we always aim to be respectful of other trail users. We don't chase after your children or dogs, and we always yield to bikers when necessary. We don't aim to make anyone feel scared or intimidated on the trails, and we ask that you extend the same courtesy for everyone's safety. Sharing trails with bikers and people is an important aspect of outdoor recreation, especially for those who enjoy hiking and horseback riding. However, not everyone is aware of the best practices for sharing these trails safely and respectfully. Tony Look Trail - Hiking Near Me - Cupertino, California

This is a moderate trail with most of the trail provide tree cover. I started the trail at 4 PM. The trail was quite empty not a lot of foot traffic initially. We had checked on alltrails and it listed as 5.4 miles. Once we started and were like 3.5 miles into the trail, our 7 month old puppy was already very tired because of the heat and on GPS it didnt seem like we were more than half way done, it seemed we were barely half way. We left 2 friends and puppy at a picnic spot and ran towards the trail to quickly go and get the car. Eventually there was 3.3 miles still left. Maths. The trail starts half miles after the parking spot, hence that 1 additional mile to listed 5.4 and probably another 0.4 mile might be the error in the trail, I ended up logging 6.8 miles on a 5.4 mile trail. In the initial parts, you might be walking along side the lake which is fun. The best view was at the top, 1 mile before the trail end. We were at the hill top from where you could see the whole San Jose valley and that could possibly be a good sunrise and sunset spot. You can consider to go either very early in morning or just before sunset, just be smart and start the trail from opposite end. read more

Google Maps will take you to the wrong location, the parking lot and trailhead is an extra 30 seconds down the road. Nice to have parking for the hiking in this area, but the lot is pretty small and there is no room for street parking. The trail is pretty long, I think a 4 mile loop? I didn't do the whole thing. It is decent hiking - enough incline for a workout but also easy enough for a beginner. Note that the trail is dry, dusty, and mostly in direct sunlight! Definitely avoid white/light shoes (they will get dusty) and bring your sunscreen. I would also recommend bug repellent - we found ticks on us when we were leaving. Don't take them with you! read more

Pretty narrow and short distanced for a trail, but it's scenic all right. It's pretty easy or moderate depending on your experience, I found it to be okay and I'm not the most active person. You do come across people who do hike a bit faster, but most a generally polite and excuse themselves as they pass you up. Parking is easy, we didn't pay for ours since the lot seemed to be used that day for a car meet so we didn't worry and parked on the street. I like the trail, but since there are a lot of really narrow parts I'd be cautious. There's this one narrow turn that doesn't have a wood guard rail where my footing slipped and I lost balance. Good thing I was with friends who watched our footing most of the way to catch slips and falls like that. Nonetheless, decent trail and it's always fun to look out at the reservoir. read more

The Tony Look Trail offers options for beginner and intermediate hikers alike. The trail starts from the parking area off Stevens Canyon Road. 0.3 miles in, it connects to the Coyote Ridge Trail, which takes hikers up moderate inclines to the border between Stevens Creek County Park and Fremont Older Open Space Preserve. Staying on the Tony Look Trail will bring you to the Stevens Creek Reservoir. Due to the heavy rain we've had this year, the reservoir is full and the surrounding trees are looking green and alive. The trail hugs the reservoir for a quarter mile before continuing uphill along the southern edge of the park. Alternatively at this point, you can get on the Loop Trail, which follows the edge of the reservoir a bit more before doubling back. Usually I just breeze through the flat portion of the Tony Look Trail as part of a longer, roughly 7 mile hike. But recently I hiked here with friends and their kids, and we did a 2.7 mile hike along the reservoir. Because we were going slowly and taking in the sights, I got to notice things that I otherwise wouldn't have: lizards, tadpools swimming in a pool of water, and watching people kayak and fish in the reservoir. There's a place for long, strenuous hikes, but sometimes you have to look at things through the eye of a child to appreciate the finer details! read more

Awesome Trail, the 4 year olds liked it a lot and weren't complaining on the hopes of seeing a late at the end the trail and weren't disappointed. Lovey. This trail is a piece of heaven, but I took one star off because of the forbidden bike access. I wish I could combine this trail with upper Steven's Creek, and Fremont Olders' trails for biking. Or at least be able to bike it with the kids. But since it is hiking only, It is not exciting enough for them. They need distractions and interest at the trail. A swimming hole, or at least Ice cream shop at the end are a minimal request to get them moving their feet. Tony lookout out and back is about 6 miles long dirt trail with gentle ups and down, some shady parts inside the woods, and some sunny parts that cross through heavy vegetation. It is definitely not crowded but not completely isolated and even in a weekday morning you'll meet other hikers, runners, and bird watchers on the trail. If you're after a longer, steeper rout, you can combine it with coyote ridge trail, vista loop trail and lookout trail and make a beautiful, longer, and strenuous course. Formally, the trail is accessible from Steven's creek county park. you must pay $6 for parking and then walk all the way to the end of parking lot to the trail access. Practically, many people park at the curb of Steven's canyon road outside the lake's parking lot and walk behind the dam to enter the trail, or park at the bottom of Mount Eden and access the trail from the other side. read more

Got the chance to hike on this easy/moderate trail from my friends recommendation a couple weeks ago. It basically goes around most of Stevens Creek Reservoir. Quick tip on parking, you can drive in past the main lot to a few spots by a small information house which is closer to the trail head. There weren't too many people on our trail that day which was nice and shade is present for a good amount of the trail, so you don't necessarily need a hat. Walk to the end and hangout for a bit, there is a cool view of the water. Unfortunately there was a bit of noise from the nearby rock foundry, where they were blowing up tons of rock nonstop across Stevens Creek Canyon Rd. read more

We went on an overcast afternoon during wintertime. There isn't much to see; even the reservoir is mostly dried up because of the drought. Great trail for running. The people hiking on this hill are usually nice, because it takes some extra effort just to get out in nature. I usually run from the prospect rd parking side of Fremont older over to Steven's Creek Damn. It's exhausting but the sites are definitely worth the extra effort. :) read more
