When encountering people riding horses on the trails, it's important to be mindful and considerate. Horses can be easily spooked, which can lead to serious and even deadly accidents. For the safety of everyone, please ensure that your dogs are kept on a leash and your children are supervised at all times. Unfortunately, I witnessed a terrifying incident last week where a child chased me and my horse with a tree branch while screaming. My horse became extremely frightened and began to bolt at 45 miles per hour. We were on a narrow road, and the situation could have led to a fatal fall into the nearby creek. Horses are prey animals and are not used to sudden movements or loud noises. If you encounter a horse while biking, it's best to slow down and talk to the rider before passing, especially if you're moving at high speed. This will help the horse understand that you are not a threat. It's also crucial that you prevent your dogs from chasing horses, as a kick from a horse can be fatal for a dog. Please refrain from bringing an umbrella on the trail, as this could also spook the horses. As equestrians, we always aim to be respectful of other trail users. We don't chase after your children or dogs, and we always yield to bikers when necessary. We don't aim to make anyone feel scared or intimidated on the trails, and we ask that you extend the same courtesy for everyone's safety. Sharing trails with bikers and people is an important aspect of outdoor recreation, especially for those who enjoy hiking and horseback riding. However, not everyone is aware of the best practices for sharing these trails safely and respectfully. That's why it's important to make sure that everyone who uses these trails has at least a basic understanding of how to share the trails with others. One way to achieve this is by making it mandatory for individuals to complete a short online course before obtaining a license for trail use. This course could cover topics such as trail etiquette, safety guidelines, and tips for sharing the trail with other users. For none horse people in particular, it's important to understand that horses can be easily spooked by sudden movements and loud noises. This means that bikers and other hikers should approach horses slowly and calmly, and give them plenty of space to pass by. By taking these simple steps to educate trail users, we can help ensure that everyone can enjoy the great outdoors safely and responsibly.

This is a moderate trail with most of the trail provide tree cover. I started the trail at 4 PM. The trail was quite empty not a lot of foot traffic initially. We had checked on alltrails and it listed as 5.4 miles. Once we started and were like 3.5 miles into the trail, our 7 month old puppy was already very tired because of the heat and on GPS it didnt seem like we were more than half way done, it seemed we were barely half way. We left 2 friends and puppy at a picnic spot and ran towards the trail to quickly go and get the car. Eventually there was 3.3 miles still left. Maths. The trail starts half miles after the parking spot, hence that 1 additional mile to listed 5.4 and probably another 0.4 mile might be the error in the trail, I ended up logging 6.8 miles on a 5.4 mile trail. In the initial parts, you might be walking along side the lake which is fun. The best view was at the top, 1 mile before the trail end. We were at the hill top from where you could see the whole San Jose valley and that could possibly be a good sunrise and sunset spot. You can consider to go either very early in morning or just before sunset, just be smart and start the trail from opposite end.

I need to do more research to really understand what exactly is the Tony Look Trail. It felt like I was on it for a while and then on another trail and then back on it. Does not matter...these trails are wonderful and we had an enjoyable morning hiking it.

Trail was steep and mostly in shade. Nice valley view along the way to look at and you can see the bay afar. Very quiet and unpopular trail. At many points, you'd feel there's only you and your companion in the whole mountain. There's a warning sign of mountain lion but we didn't see any, not that I wanted to. :) Recommend to use hiking stick. It'd take about 4 hours to complete the whole trail. If you walk slower it'd be longer.

I did not bring an umbrella, and I wore a fleece instead of a windbreaker. It was drizzling on and off, I had to take shelter under trees to wait out the heavier rain sections. The good part of today was that I practically had the whole mountain to myself, it's really being alone; I crossed paths with 7 other solo hikers. The bad part was that I am afraid of getting lost by myself. Here are my observations on this hike. Saw some animals up close: deer, rabbit, and a big black loud bird. Climbed over a down tree on the trail. Noticed lots of ferns and moss, so it must be shady and wet here year round. Noticed the dirt near the top is black while the dirt near the bottom is red. Started the trailhead from the Old Quarry at 10:30am, 12 miles round trip. 2.5 hrs up; 1.5 hrs down

That particular round trip is probably less than 2.5 miles round trip, mostly flat, and much of it you have a choice of walking on paved roads/trails so good for strollers. The farm is open until 4pm most days, but be aware this is not a petting zoo, you just get to see the sheep, goats, pigs, cows, rabbits, ducks etc. Still fun for kids, my son loved it when he was little. My favorite hike is to go past the farm and then take the Wildcat Loop trip, you get some great views from up there, that's about 4.5 miles round trip from parking lot with some elevation gain. Our new favorite trail is the Mora Trail which branches off before you get to the farm and goes up to beautiful open vistas. Parking - very hard to find parking on weekend mornings and early afternoons. And don't park illegally, they will ticket you. Trails past the farm tend to be much less used.

I'm a beginner hiker so it's challenging enough to give me a workout. Most of the trail is exposed with greenery around but could be hot in the Summer. There's an educational center with farm animals (goats, huge pigs, cows) and a volunteer supported garden, Deer Hollow Farm. It's open to public most of the week. There's also a historic cabin built in the 1850's preserved and look like a small museum that showcases what life may have been like back then. There's a permanent restroom at the parking lot. Along the trail, there's also a smaller porta potty type but permanent restroom. Plenty of parking.

Though there are a few different trials to choose from, they all end up crossing at one point or another. Even if you do all of them, they aren't too long and the hike tends to be fairly short. The area is pretty hilly, so most trails have a good elevation gain. Aside from the hiking, you can stroll the garden and picnic in the grass in front of the villa. They have some art installations around the grass and in the garden that are fun to look at. They also have concerts here, there is a stage outside, but I've only ever seen one inside the concert hall. They're usually smaller names and smaller shows.

BE SURE TO CHECK OUT EACH LOT as you come up to them (Lots 1-4) as noted this is a one-way road. If you reach Lot 4 and can't find a spot you have to drive all the way back down to the main road and start over. Just saying to save the frustration. Parking is free by the way. The main estate house holds conferences and events and such was this on the day we were there, so we couldn't get inside. The main lawn is excellent for having a picnic and just relaxing. The surrounding grounds have a trail that winds around with lots of outdoor art to experience. Be sure to go through the large "deer gate" at the bottom of the grounds. There is more art to be viewed in the Italian Garden. With the trails, ponds, botanicals and art it's a lot to see and enjoy.

There are endless amounts of trails that you can look towards -- some roll around in a circle, and some lead all the way to Sanborn County Park. While many people say these trails go nowhere, they do lead to the opening of trails that lead into the Santa Cruz Mountains. The only improvement that I would give to this park is the narrowness of some of the trails that we had to encounter -- and while there were spectacular views of the South Bay, what was lackluster and disappointing was the fact that there were barely any labels that were telling us where we were going. The bridges were a very good view of how close or how far we were from the very beginning of the entrance of the park, however, so that was a very good sign. If you're looking for a park that challenges you as much as going to Almaden Quicksilver Park, but without driving so far, then the Saratoga Quarry Park is just for you. I'll definitely be back to challenge myself to climb these hiking paths more.
