715am trees to the north serve as a wind barrier, yet don't add to the shadows

This park has perhaps the best free public tennis courts in the South Bay, an area of 2 million people. I should know as I've lived in the this area since 1979 and have played tennis on practically every tennis court in the area. Sylvan park located on the Sunnyvale side of highway 85 a few blocks north of El Camino Real. $2 million 2 story homes line the streets adjacent to the park. But just on the west side of those homes west of the park, is a trailer park, with manufactured homes in the $300,000 range! 4 tennis courts, quarter mile circular concrete walkway, toddler playground with colorful climbing bars, jungle gym, and swings, bbq grills with benches, rest rooms, drinking fountains, shady tree areas, broad grassland areas for soccer, baseball, dedicated parking area, plus plenty parking around the edges of the park. Don't know if you need a city permit to use the BBQ grills or use the entire field for soccer. 7:30am/930am, Monday, Wednesday, Friday, I'm here to play organized men's doubles tennis. No shadows on the east nor west side due to obstructions or tall trees. Clean blue/green courts, with green court surface and blue areas between courts. Single painted wooden benches on the far sides of each court, sufficient room for 4 players to sit down, unless they have big buns! Some players bring their own folding chairs, and towels to wipe the dew off the benches. Garbage cans nearby, but one player collects the used tennis balls for recycling at the local tennis centers. One time a tennis player ran into and over the garbage can. Talk about a put away shot! The 4 tennis courts are 2 on each side, no partitions between courts, but windscreens on north and south sides, and on the 12 foot fence separating each pair of courts. Nets are replaced with regularity every year or so , no holes, and adjustable. Needed as they sag due to kids and teenagers sitting on them at dusk. Courts are on the slow side, as resurfaced every couple of years, with very few cracks. The restrooms would always be open about an hour after dawn. Standard time they were open at 730am. Now with daylight saving time, they don't open until 8am. Men's restroom is clean, but very crude with no hot water, no paper towels, but thankfully with toilet paper. Needed sometimes, when you have to get up and leave the house by 7am to make it here, although I keep a roll in the trunk of the car. Come on man, this is not rural China where you have to provide your own toilet paper. Busy during rush hour 5pm-7pm, with tennis players coming straight from work in the nearby high tech industries of Mountain View and Sunnyvale. Courts are so good, that it is preferable to play here rather than pay $8 per hour per court at Cuesta or $12 per court per hour at Sunnyvale Tennis Center. Those courts are faster and dirtier, as they are adjacent dirt orchards and not washed weekly like these courts. But they do have lights for night tennis. And there is no waiting. Now if they only had lights on the tennis courts at Sylvan. Doesn't matter to retired senior tennis players, as they don't play at night, as they can't see the ball in the dark at their old age, until it's too late -another (tennis) fuzz sandwich!

Nice place for a BBQ on a sunny day!

Nice neighborhood park! Popular place for BBQs and kids birthdays on the weekends, especially when the weather is nice. Small playground and lots of grassy area for throwing a frisbee around or setting up a portable volleyball court. There are also four tennis courts that are first come first serve. Park is dog friendly, but there are signs around stating that dogs must be on a leash at all times. Plenty of street parking all around the park.

Great neighborhood park that I like to take my dog to for a near by walk. The city of Mountain View maintains this park very well. It is always clean, manicured, and fields roped off and repaired as needed. 4 tennis courts. Great toddler/small child play area with play structure & swings. 1/4 mile inside paved loop for walking jogging etc. BBQ pits, picnic tables, small sunken stage area. Bathrooms open all year round sun up to sun down. Large area for team sports. Small semi fenced off area for horse shoes or what ever. Water fountain by tennis courts and by bathrooms. Blue doggie poop bags available at both main entrances to the park. Several benches around 1/4 mile loop for resting/relaxing.

A very nice park in a nice neighborhood. There is a small parking lot but otherwise plentiful street parking. The park has large expanses of sunny grass and a number of large shade trees spaced about. A paved walking trail goes around the perimeter which is good for walking, strollers, roller skating and the like. There are picnic tables, benches, and two kiddie play areas as well as tennis courts. Finally, there are restrooms and driving fountains. Yay!

    Nearby the tennis courts.

A nice big, clean park. Can't say too much else about a park... But it's definitely in Top 5 favorite parks in Mountain View.

What I like: Free entry, huge free parking lot, and bathrooms. You can keep it simple with a walk or bike ride on the trails, or make it more of an activity day with the lake. The lake is manmade and they have a boathouse where you can rent equipment. Sailing, paddle boating, that kind of vibe. I've also seen the boathouse area used for group events, so it's good for a casual outing or even something organized. A few practical notes: It's mostly flat, which is great, but there's very little shade, so if it's sunny bring water and plan accordingly. Weekends can get crowded, especially when the weather is good. Overall, it's a clean, convenient park with enough variety that you can keep coming back and not get bored.

Unfortunately, the Rengstorff House just closed when we arrived. We were able to walk around and check out the lake and some of the other areas though.

This place is usually my go to when the weather is just perfect and you want good views of the mountains viewing the Monterey Bay and the Santa Clara Valley. In addition, the park is even open during the cold winter season, where it occasionally will snow (because of how high the elevation is, the main base is situated at about 3,200 feet above sea level). This place has been my go-to park for hiking for a while, because of its terrain. At the same time, it's also been because of how much snow they get when cold fronts come into effect. They are also open year-round, so definitely swing by this state park when you do get the chance to! It's a decision you'll never regret.
