We spotted Porch on Yelp and decided to try it for dinner. We got to the restaurant just before 6 and we're seated immediately. The waiter came and took a drink order almost immediately but then we didn't see him again for a long time. When he brought the drinks we ordered our food and then he disappeared again for a really long time. He disappeared yet again once we finally got our food. He really didn't seem to care about our table and never even asked us if we wanted another drink or desert. We enjoyed the food, but man was this place slow. We were in there for right at 2 hours on a Wednesday night for dinner and very easily could have gotten out of there much sooner. It doesn't take that long to cook a burger. Food was a 5 star and the service was a 2 star, but I'm feeling generous and going with a 4 when it would be a 3.5 if Yelp would let me do half stars. read more

When a friend wanted to go grab lunch, I wanted to check out a new place I haven't been before. I have been to this building numerous times in the past of the restaurant that was there. But had not tried Porch yet. So we decided to check it out because the weather was actually nice and they have a nice patio. Parking was easy and we were seated immediately. They had a vodka sodas on special that day. The service was also good. If you have read my reviews, you know I like to compare apples to apples. So just because fast food isn't usually my first choice, I always compare it to other fast food experiences. Similarly, when it comes to sit down restaurant burgers. So when I write my reviews, I compare to other burgers. Trust me, in my book this was a very good burger. I would definitely go back and order this again. But I can't say it is in that Elite category. Since it was lunch and I was already getting a burger, I went with the salad. So next time I can try the full burger and fries experience. The overall experience is 4.5 stars. But because service was such a big part of it, I think they definitely deserve a 5. I highly recommend checking them out! read more

The Porch has an awesome fried chicken sandwich-- I had the one with Buffalo sauce. It was just the right amount of spice, freshly fried and juicy. Will def return when I'm in the Birmingham area so I can try other menu items. Service was quick and professional, too. I really liked this place and I am sure that you will too. It is located in a trendy part of town. It has good food, friendly and courteous staff, smooth vibe and delicious food. They have a full bar and a nice patio area that you can dine in. The restaurant is decent sized and there is a private parking lot with an ample amount of spots. I ordered the Brussel sprouts with bacon as an appetizer. I followed that up with some blackened salmon with fries. It was delicious. I highly recommend. The salmon was very flavorful and the fries were tasty. The fries were prepared and seasoned perfectly. Our poor waitress was running all over the place. She had a few tables that she was covering, including mine, that she was working, as well as the bar. She was awesome. Very attentive, helpful, and friendly. I ate inside because it was the first available, but it was a nice night and I would have loved to dine on the patio. My only complaint is that the place can get a bit pricey, but as I always say, you have to pay for quality and the prices are not hidden. I highly recommend this restaurant. Wow! I can't say enough about how wonderful the food, ambiance and service is at Porch! We checked out lunch this afternoon and the champagne special was amazing $20/bottle + two juices. It was the perfect way to kick off this Saturday. For appetizers we tried the squash carpaccio which was light, fresh and full of flavor. We also had the farro bowl which is hands down one of the best dishes in the menu. The colorful veggies assortment + the goat cheese + truffle flavor will definitely leave you thinking about the dish for weeks to come. We also tried the Ireland Farms baby romaine salad that was covered in this smoky bacon that tasted like you were at a BBQ restaurant. It was to die for!!! For entrees we had the burger which is incredible. The double patty + cheese + grilled onions + burger sauce and pickles will literally blow you mind. It was a table favorite for sure. We also had the fish po boy. It was on the best New Orleans style bread and the fish was fried light and crispy. Just the way it should be! The malt vinegar aoli was so tasty we had to get an extra side to dip our fries in (which by the way are the BEST fries in bham). The service was spot on. As soon as we walked in we were greeted and seated. Upon arriving to our seats we received dirty looks from customers dining in. As if we were not wanted. My appetite was immediately turned off. Our food was good, and the service was friendly, if not slightly slow (but no one will work so that's the way things are now). I don't know, the space is nice. Something about the ambience is a bit wanting but I can't quite put my finger on it. I'm not particularly fond of paying $11 for a sandwich and getting my bill to find out a side of fries is another $5. Just say it on the fucking menu or raise the damn price and include it. I ordered the featured Yelp Recommendation and was shocked by what came from the kitchen. The bun was burnt, not just toasted. The server knew it was burnt because the toothpick in the sandwich was squarely in the middle. The chicken itself was twice fried and dry. I ordered fries and they were greasy with a lot of salt. I was that a family at an adjoining table on the porch outside had ordered the same food and it looked like the picture in the Yelp photo. This was excellent! First, the service is above and beyond. We felt like very valued guests. The whole place is clean. We were seated pretty quickly, not a long wait for anything. I have never been to Birmingham before, but decided to try this venue as it was a beautiful day outside and I wanted to sit on a patio. The surrounding neighborhood and shops were quiet and quaint. The patio was perfect for a sunny Saturday afternoon. The service was attentive and everyone was welcoming. The entire table enjoyed The Oko appetizer. I thought it was a great hit with plenty of flavor and a spicy kick with a generous helping of sesame seeds. I never had okonomiyaki before, but now I will definitely be trying to learn to make my own back home. Sigh. If the running narrative is that Mountain Brook is a racist town- I am here to confirm that it mostly is. As I walked into porch from the blistering heat, I was met by the male bartender. He did not acknowledge me but gave me a crass look as if I was lost & needed to be elsewhere but there. Unfortunately for me, I placed an online order so I'd already spent my funds. The male bartender was still dishing out glaring looks at me while I waited for my order. A couple walks in & he seemed to turn a leaf. I ordered three chicken bahn mi with black eyed peas side, vegetable plate for my husband, and bowl of chicken soup for my grandmother. My sandwich was delicious!
