Was visiting friends and decided to stop into Pop's. It was a nice burger and custard place! Not really busy, but busy enough! They have a lot of sundae options and plenty of food options. Pretty comparable to Culver's or Kopp's. There were huge cookie chunks in the cookies n cream custard, which is available daily! My burger was pretty good and the service was friendly and prompt. There's a pretty big parking lot. Some of the plastic chairs outside will buckle, so just be careful sitting down. A friend of mine almost fell! Yikes. read more

We ordered the garden salad and the fish sandwich and they were good. I was impressed with the size of the salad! The three pieces of breaded cod in a bun made a good fish sandwich. For dessert, custard! This is a great place to find it. The service is good and the ambiance casual and relaxed. A hot spot for families with kids and dogs. We've been coming here for years, but the last three times I've been disappointed in the counter service. They are very young and seem disorganized. My recent visit, I called in my order and was told to come in 15 minutes, so I did. I still had to wait 40 minutes for my order. Only to find out it was sitting the entire time bagged up on the counter. I had them make my, now soupy, shake over. The food is still decent and we love the ice cream but they have to do something about the service. Maybe more training, an easier system, or maybe have more than one person over the age of 18. Idk. We will try again but if this would have been my first visit we never would come back. read more

I've stopped at Pop's a handful of times over the years. Pop's is an original fast food/custard drive in that's been in existence for 30+ years. In all the time that's passed I think the majority of Pop's original nature still remains today. A sheer fluke I'm sure, but today I felt I took a step through time. There were 5 individual customers spread around the cozy (small) inside dining area and 4 employees. I'm in my 40's and I would guess I was the youngest person there by about 20-25 years. Kind of made me chuckle and think of Happy Days. The old gang reuniting at Al's Diner 50 years later. I'm not from Menomonee Falls, but I imagine the locals are quite nostalgic of their little place called Pop's. Pretty standard fast food faire with prices you'd expect. Many probably return to reminisce of visits from their youth. I think most of us probably have that home town "go to" drive in location somewhere. read more

My family and I have been going to Pops for many years. Sadly, after today's visit, that won't be happening again. When we got home, we noticed that our chicken tenders were not cooked throughly. So, my husband took them back. The chicken tenders had white stuff coming out of them. When my husband got there, he asked if they can be remade. He was told that he would still have to pay for a new order. My husband stated that didn't make sense as he was asking for them to be remade because they didn't looked cooked. He the. Asked to speak to a manager. The manager stated that they cook the tenders in a new lawd, so that is why they look like that, but he would still need to pay for a new order. So basically, they were not willing to remake the food and trying to force my family to eat chicken that looks uncooked. My husband stated that we have spent so much of our money here, and we have never seen the chicken look like this. So, he walked away without a new order! Needless, to say we threw it in the garbage and wasted our money. Our kids were going to take that for their lunch the very next day. I am so disappointed in Pops, but won't be returning ever again!! read more

First time visit since moving to the area, brought the whole family and dined in and was a great time. Burger was excellent, 5-stars, double jumbo butter burger with ketchup mustard and fried onions, so good. Kids loved the grilled cheese, chicken tenders also and my wife loved regular cheeseburger. Fries, cheese curds and onion rings were also sampled and cheese curds and onion rings (both battered not breaded) were three stars, fries four stars. Unfortunately we were full and didn't get custard but will next time for sure, maybe that will move this rating to five stars once we try it :) read more

I finally made over to Pops while shopping in the area, hell its lunch time and a burger sounded good. The place is in a strip mall and doesn't look like much until you walk in and it's like country charm on the inside. The place is small and cozy, I can see this place being standing room only during peek summer times. The menu has everything from butter burgers to fish and shrimp but I was there for a burger. The burgers are ala carte which means I ordered the jumbo burger for $3.99 and they ask what you want on it and I got bacon, cheese, lettuce, tomato, raw onion, mayo and ketchup $$$$. Toppings are all extra which I'm fine with so my jumbo burger ended up at $6.50 The jumbo butter burger must be a sarcastic name because there was nothing jumbo about it at all, smaller than a whopper. The beef patty was very thin and slightly thicker than the super thin tomato slices while the raw onion was so thin that I could barely even see it. The lettuce was the thickest topping and the nice leafy kind, thank you. The bun was a nice soft/light style which complemented the bacon cheeseburger well. Overall it was an ok burger with the patty being moist and you could actually taste the beef with all the fresh ingredients. Overall the jumbo butter burger is not jumbo at all but it's a decent custard store version burger, definitely not a burger destination place and in now way going to replace anyone's favorite good burger place. read more

I've been going to Pop's as long as I can remember. They are a family tradition. The new ownership is great. Everything tastes the same. I moved out of state and make sure to visit when I return. My go to order: Jr cheeseburger, fries, cheese sauce for dipping, and chocolate shake. You won't be disappointed! Comparing two totally different places at which we ate this week: Cup of Chili and a Salad at Bavette's and at Pop's. The Chili was $5.00 (Bavette) vs. $2.99 (Pop's). Unfortunately, Pop's had grease floating on top so it didn't look appetizing, although the flavor was decent. The big surprise, however, was the salad ($13.00 at Bavette's and $7.99 at Pop's). Pop's Chef Salad was smashed in a plastic bowl pressed down with a plastic cover. Since I couldn't eat it after the chili I took it home and put it in a large bowl and tossed it with the Rasberry vinaigrette. Was I surprised! When the fine pieces of lettuce (lots of arugula and other things) along with tomatoes, chicken, ham, cucumbers, swiss cheese and chopped cheddar were loosened up, THERE WAS ANOUGH FOR FOUR PEOPLE!! This is a deal. Way better than Bavette's or any other chef's salad I've had in a long time. Great to stop by, pick one up for the family and have enough for four. It's on my list. read more

Originally started going here for their custard. The tin roof is delicious. However, I was quite surprised at the quality of their food too. The mushroom and Swiss is the best I have ever had. The mushrooms taste fresh, and the buns have a taste of garlic butter, not your typical fast food burger. Absolutely delicious, highly recommend. read more

As residents of Menomonee Falls, we go to Pops Custard two or three times a year. The food is pretty tasty... And they employ a lot of the local highschoolers who are trained in courteous customer service, while simultaneously helping them to build a résumé. This would've been five out of five stars but the prices for many items are just a little on the high end for a takeout place, otherwise we would come more often for their burgers and fish sandwiches. read more

I like Pop's and my preference is to frequent local businesses when I can. However, my visit tonight left me upset. Ordered 2 shakes and handed the younger female cashier a $20. She handed me $1.61 in change. I reminded her that I gave her a $20. She said no it was a $10. I opened my wallet and showed her that all I had were $20's because I just came from the ATM and also showed her the receipt and counted out the money which was $20 less. I stopped at Pop's today for the first time in several years. I decided to try the special that is advertised on their sign outside - hamburger, fries, and soda for less than $5. My son was with me and when we went to the counter to ask about the special, the lady kept repeating that we could make any sandwich a combo for $2.75. I finally spoke up and asked about the special and was told that it was a SMALL burger. I ordered the jumbo butter burger and my son had the jumbo butter burger combo. The buns were average, the burger patties were thin, and I could have read the paper through the slice of tomato on my burger. The fries were adequate in quantity, and probably the best I've had anywhere. The food was adequate and the bill was under $13.00 Here is the rub - the three senior ladies sitting in the corner talked loudly the entire time. Their conversation was normal though not interesting, so I'll give them a pass. I'm over 80 with good hearing but I realize many seniors aren't so blessed. The irritating problem was the five or six teenagers occupying the booth behind me. They were loud and obnoxious to the point that I actually got a head ache. They did not order anything, but talked incessantly with the volume control stuck on maximum and the management did not ask them to turn it down. I believe management has a responsibility to keep an orderly and reasonably quiet atmosphere for people who are simply there to eat and relax. I probably will not be back. read more

I am leaving 1 star because I can't leave zero. I took my family to Pop's for some sundaes and the up charges are absolutely ridiculous and petty. My daughter wanted sprinkles and whip cream. I was charged $.79 for the whip cream and another $.79 for less than a teaspoon of sprinkles. What kind of cheapskates are running this place. I was charged almost $14.00 for 3 sundaes that were $2.89 each without all of the up charges. The only up charge I seen as normal was the pecans on my mother's sundae for $1.50 My order was 1small hot fudge sundae with whipped cream 1small hot fudge sundae with whipped cream and sprinkles. 1 small hot fudge sundae with peacans and whipped cream. I am amazed they don't charge for the toilet paper in the bathrooms. I think the owner and buddies must be writing the other reviews as I can't believe most of them from what I saw. Location: 3 out of 5 Not somewhere I would drive to from Milwaukee proper just to get my custard and burger fix, but since I was half coerced into doing some type of Aquathon out at Memonomee Park in late August, Pop's wasn't too far away. It's in the same parking complex as a diving shop, a bar, and maybe another restaurant, so parking is free and ample. They have a cute outdoor seating area as well. Decor/Ambiance: 3.5 out of 5 America, woo hoo! I like the patriotic theme that they had going on during our visit. You know those little spinning decorations that move with the air circulation that you can hang from the ceiling? Yep, they had those. The interior itself is comprised of not so comfortable wooden seats and laquered tables/benches - for those of you with flat booties it may be beneficial to bring along some type of seat cushion if you're going to be there for awhile. (I live for the) ApplauseX2 for the small collection of reading materials and children's toys in the front corner, almost library style. Customer Service: 3.75 out of 5 For being towards the end of the night (I rolled in at around 8:45), all of the workers seemed to be in pretty decent spirits. The gals working the cash registers were friendly in taking our orders, and were polite when asking if I needed extra condiments for my burger. They weren't as in a rush as say, the people that work at any of the Kopp's locations, so I didn't feel like they were trying to herd me in and out ASAP. I'm not such a stickler when it comes to "dirty" looking clothes; working in a custard shop, you have to expect to get some splashback/grease/toppings on you once in awhile, and black shirts tend to hide that well. Sure, they had what you might expect: burgers, hot dogs, chicken sandwich, fish sandwich, fries, o-rings, cheese curds, etc. What they do offer that sets them apart are quasi specialty sandwiches: a giant grilled cheese, pulled pork, pizza burger, pork chop, etc. Taste/Quality of Butter Burger + Cheese and Bacon: 3 out of 5 Ever so slightly below what I have come to expect given my experiences at Kopp's. This is not a knock or an insult, and perhaps my view is based on the fact that I'm a pretty standard person when it comes to ordering: My "go to" is a bacon cheeseburger with whatever toppings are free (expect to pay a bit for lettuce and tomato here, but onions are free), and I opted for the butter burger on the night of my visit. The meat itself wasn't overly greasy, which can be good or bad depending on what your lifestyle is. For example, those familiar with Portillo's will attest that the meat there is VERY "flavorful". The bacon, while tasty, was nothing special. With the way they cut up the strips into halves, it reminded me of what I might find at Burger King. The one thing I remember the most as being a little off was the bread to meat ratio of my burger. While I have no complaints about the size of the meat patty, the size of the bun was slightly overwhelming. However, I imagine that on the double burger, it'd be perfect. Six up, half a dozen down, right? The butter part of the burger was nicely done - the top half of my bun wasn't saturated or swimming in tasty fat, but it was obvious that well, there was butter. My theory on custard is pretty simple - if they can make the base right (either chocolate or vanilla), they can make any variants well. And this folks - was very very good custard. In my opinion, and mine only - probably a little better than Kopp's. Creamy, rich, sweet, cold (but not brain freeze cold), decadent. All of the above. Value: 4 out of 5 If you happen to have no money (remember, "Me no monee"), you won't be eating here. But, if you have a little bit of cash (and they take credit too, even though the sign on the wall says "We accept cash"), you can eat pretty well. Pop's is located in a strip mall, so no vintage drive-in here, although they do have some sidewalk seating. Our experience inside was chaotic. It was noisy. Maybe it was the custard machine or something, but there was some sort of pounding going on most of the time we were there. It was fairly busy, and at first there was no place inside to sit, but after 10 minutes or so we scored a booth. The restaurant is small and there are only a few feet between you and the counter, and if you aren't familiar with the menu drill I don't think it's easy to pick up. There are menu boards on the wall below the ceiling, but it was a good 15 minutes later (after we ordered and paid) before I saw all of the extra signs taped along the front of the counter advertising other goodies, and also the custard flavors available. I cringed when well after I ordered I saw a sign taped to the counter that said you could have a Solly's burger for an upcharge, but I was able to see that they had malts while I was at the counter, so with my cheeseburger order, for which I was asked about toppings (grilled onions, mustard and pickles, please) after I saw that they had malts, I figured a chocolate malt would be a staple, so I asked for that. The decor was somewhat Victorian aunt's house to me, olde tymey kitchen gadgets and cutesy stuff, and the dining area was tidy. It wasn't too long before our food was ready. The burger was tasty enough, although for whatever reason I found myself wishing I had went with raw onions rather than the grilled, which was an option. We were sharing an order of cheese fries, and while I felt the fries themselves were rather unextraordinary, the cheese sauce, however, was not! It was thick and dark yellow, and tasted very cheddary rather than nacho-y or cheese whizzy. If I find myself in Menomonee Falls again and hungry, I would be up for an order of these cheese fries again. The chocolate malt was also quite nice. This is a nostalgic little place that has been around forever. I have eaten here many, many times and have never had a bad experience. I love their jumbo butterburgers (best in the area) and their "Kiss on the Roof' sundae (peanut butter sauce, hot fudge & peanuts)...Mmmm it's my favortie sundae ever!
