To start the story, traveling across the US in an rv, was stranded for a night in Redding CA. Called poppies to see if they would deliver to an rv park, the woman I spoke to on the phone was the nicest and happiest person I'd talked to all day! She made a bad situation so much better and she didn't even know it!! I can't remember her name, but she is so awesome and just refreshing to talk to! And then comes the pizzas!!! The loaded baked potato OMG the best pizza I have had in a long time!! Full of flavor packed with ingredients and just a fantastic pizza!! If ever in Redding I would suggest this place to anyone!! Probably one of the worst pizza I had. First of all I always order a pep and sausage every time I order a pizza. Well I only got pepperoni. I called and the person( who was RUDE) stated I didn't. The sauce and crust tasted worse than a little Caesars pizza. As you see on their score , this place has 2 violations. I would not recommend if this was the only place open. So after waiting an hour and a half on a Saturday afternoon for a meatball sandwich and a salad it finally arrived sans fork, sans napkin and cold. Really, these people don't give a shit. I called them three times to ask them where my order was. I was told that the driver was on lunch. Hey, I want to work for a company that will give me and hour and and a half for lunch. Decided to order Poppies pizza today and get a couple pizzas, wings, and a salad. Right off the bat the woman taking my order was very pleasant. I had bad reception so she made sure she heard everything correctly and spent just a little extra time on my order to make sure it was correct. Offered the cookie dough and figured why not? They said the delivery would be 45 minutes to an hour and even with the bad weather they managed to get it out in just over half an hour. I was a little taken back by the price of my order but when I got the food not only was it more than enough but the over all quality of the food was worth every penny. The man who made the delivery was thorough with everything and very appreciative of the tip I gave even though I felt like I slightly shorted them on a tip. Great place, awesome experience. This is a good place to eat. The food is great but they tend to be a bit slow. Delivery takes a while but it's worth the wait. My only issue is the prices. They are high for the portion size in my opinion. Their sides are limited but I'm not surprised because it's a pizza place. I ordered the MEXICALI & The Fruit pizza for my wife & I for dinner tonight. When I arrived the people inside working were super friendly and greeted me quickly when I walked in. When I arrived home with our dinner my wife opened the boxes and dug in. The both of us really enjoyed the MEXICALI. It has wonderful flavors. The grilled chicken was moist and tender. Even the jalapeño peppers, tomatoes, onions, and green peppers were perfect. Their wasn't much left by the time we got to the fruit pizza. We finally got to try the fruit pizza. My wife tried it first, because I'm a little slow. By the time I got to try it most of the fruit was gone, but she did save me some. We both had never herd of a fruit pizza before. I can say I would get it again, but maybe start with the fruit first. I noticed they have quite a selection of deserts to choose from. We walked in 45 mins before closing ( it's vacation! ) and they kindly greeted us, answered our questions and gave the kiddos two little prizes to play with. I was sold on the service alone. We were traveling through redding and stayed at a hotel on march 22nd 2018. We ordered food for delivery to our hotel room. We ordered at 9:20pm as we had just arrived they close at 10pm the woman that took our order was very sweet. But this review is more about the delivery driver that dropped off our food. When he arrived it was about 10:15pm he was so kind and sweet. He said since he noticed we were from out of town and traveling through so he went out of his way to make sure we had everything we needed he brought extra plates that we didnt ask for. He brought ranch, and made sure we had everything we needed for our meal. He was such a kind delivery driver and I wish I had gotten his name but he was amazing and because of him we will use this place from now on whenever we travel through redding. This pizza can't compete with ANY other local pizza. Its lacking in flavor, quality, and decency. The crust is hard and cardboard like, and incredibly thin, the sauce is nonexistent, and the toppings are barely even there. Westside pizza is similarly priced and is far better. I am usually satisfied with their pizza, until a long hair was found cooked into the melted cheese. The most disturbing part is I hadn't noticed it until the next day, when I attempted to eat it cold, and saw how deep the hair was in melted cheese. I've been going to poppies for years. Several years ago they were top notch. Everything from delivery to the food. Greatness!! If you get delivery ask for "KEN" he is by far the best delivery person I've ever met in my whole life. He is a good person through and through and cares about you getting your food and side items how you want it. That being said, these days the store itself is being run by people that don't care. Management needs to put a foot down and get the workers to work instead of being friends and talking about their friends failed relationships as loud as possible. Work is work friend time is friend time. Another time they forgot all about my order and had to make it right then and there. Why even call ahead? I don't know if they are doing homework, or just sitting around back there but Poppie's needs to get management to make a change or I will take my business elsewhere. The pizza is AWESOME I couldn't believe I've lived in Redding over 6 years and never had it. I LOVE PIZZA so that was a surprise. It is delicious! However pasta is my Second favorite food and chicken Alfredo to be specific. I was hoping their greatness extended to their pasta. If you like traditional Chicken Alfredo the way I do I suggest you don't go there. The dish was obviously baked in a metal pan which isn't a big issue but the top was black and the pasta was spaghetti pasta. I love this place - actually too much - I believe I've eaten a whole pizza per week for the last 2 mos. I usually order the same thing gourmet veggie on one half and either ham/ Pineapple or the big poppies?? With light sauce , well done ( not burnt )& pineapple covering the whole thing . In all the times I've ordered only once the pizza was in edible . I immediately called and was promised a free pizza of the same value at my next order . I've also frequently ordered the large dinner salad . That lasts me three meals for whatever the cost (?) $6. Something . The ingredients for everything I've ordered have always tasted fresh , and I think Iv'e ordered so many times all I need to give them is my name and although they ALWAYS ALWAYS SAY 45 min to an hour ??for a mere $2.00 delivery charge it's usually here w/I 20 min. Out of all the take out pizza parlours in Redding they are my fav. The only thing I didn't like besides the burnt pizza was their spaghetti . Tasted old . I actually tore up their take out menu 2 weeks ago so I wud stop this Poppies insanity but conveniently found their menu on Google. Com! They are fun , kind, business owners / they always have happy staff . One more thing - I have a friend who tried their Thai chicken pizza and said it was out of this world . I've odered pizza from poppies about 8 times since they've opened as that are located pretty close to where I live. We sample a variety of there pies and they all have been really good. They accommodated my order (custom sandwich, antipasto without cheese, etc). They were friendly and punctual (took about 30 minutes). 5 stars regarding the food. 3-ish for the ambiance. The pizza & breadsticks are delicious. Literally, the best I have ever had. The pizza comes with many toppings including BACON! To list all their toppings & combos would leave you reading this review for far longer than you really want. The breadsticks are like none that I have ever tasted. They are made from what I believe to be pizza crust, but unlike the light, crispy crust (not thick like Round Table crust), the breadsticks are soft & chewy. Not doughy, just right. They are topped with perfectly melted Parmesan & coated with garlic butter. They aren't drenched & left soggy but are perfectly seasoned leaving a light, buttery, slightly garlicy taste in your mouth. The downside is they only come in one size which is the same as a small pizza. They are baked in a roundish rectangle shape then sliced into pieces. No twists that are left dry. Just a delicious bunch of buttery sticks. Each pizza & order of breadsticks is made to order & nothing is ever frozen. Poppie's offers salads which are good but nothing to write home about beyond their GIANT size. I ordered a small & as a vegan was skeptical it would suffice. I was happily surprised the small is HUGE! It is the size of a clear, square to go salad container. The toppings all come standard (no extra charge); red chopped onions, chopped pepperoncinis, black olives, & croutons. Breadsticks come with 2 ranch dressings & 1 marinara sauce. The salad comes with 2 dressings. The ambiance is not inviting and leads the experienced diner to want to turn around and walk the same door they came in. The grey, indoor/outdoor carpet is severely stained (obviously many people have fond memories of coming to get the best pizza in town). The booths are made of blonde colored wood & seem small seating 2 people on each side. There are wrought iron table & chair sets diners can use as well as a couple wooden tables covered with checkered, vinyl tablecloths. There is a pretty hefty draft that wafts in the doors which leaves diners feeling cold during the winter. There is a self serve soda fountain for customers. The service is pretty good. Not as good as the best breadsticks, but pretty good. They deliver should you choose to forgo the ambiance. Poppie's is located in north Redding, I live in East Redding on the Palo Cedro/Redding city limit line & delivery was $4.50. I definitely recommend eating here if you like pizza. If you consider yourself a pizza connoisseur, GO THERE! For the kids, there are no video games or other unnecessary accommodations. People dine at Poppie's for the food. NOTHING more.
