Unfortunately, I had a very disappointing experience with Popped Republic. I placed an order (#921548) as a gift for my dad, and when it arrived, the shipping box was damaged. We didn't think much of it at the time, but when he finally opened the first bag, only about half of the kernels had actually popped. I reached out to Popped Republic on June 30 with photos and explained the situation. I also followed up on July 2 and July 13, but never received a response. Because I had purchased this as a gift and was concerned the remaining bags could have the same issue, I was hoping the company would at least respond and offer a replacement or some type of resolution. Unfortunately, I received no communication at all and ultimately had to dispute the charge with my credit card company. I understand that issues can happen, but what was most disappointing was the complete lack of customer service and response after making multiple attempts to resolve the issue. I had an opportunity to visit the food truck. I'm a fan of Garrett Popcorn, so I figured this was our own local version. I got the peanut butter cup kettle corn ( peanut butter and choco drizzled) and the Obama mix (Chicago-- cheese and caramel flavors). Instantly peanut butter cup was a hit, though if I get more, I'll ask for a third of the bag to be regular kettle corn to break up some of the delicious sweetness. I regret to inform that my Obama mix failed a bit short on it's potential to be the classic favorite. While rich and butter, the caramel was excessively chewy and the cheddar just didn't seem fresh. My son said the caramel tasted like Cracker Jack that he ate at a baseball game. The flavor is def a bit richer than Cracker Jack, but I totally think he's right. I blame it on the pitfalls of a food truck. I'd look forward to trying it fresh from the shop. We didn't finish the bag. I'm still a fan. Fun, quirky flavors. I have more to try. The food truck on a Friday was easy to find. The company posts on Twitter where they will be located during the lunchtime hour. On the sunny, cold, windy day there was already a line leading to the orange, yellowish truck. It's ok though because a menu was posted with a variety of mixed flavors listed that it gave me time to decide what I wanted to try. The popcorn mixes were unique such as s'mores, buffalo, chocolate drizzle and the list goes on. The sizes come in small, medium and large as I watched the server pack each bag really full and generously. I feel you can share a small with a friend and be satisfied. Keep in mind the prices do not include tax...have change or credit card ready. The caramel/cheddar mix was delicious. The medium bag was packed tight and heavily weighed. The caramel had a buttery, sweet, crunchy rich texture. The cheddar was nicely seasoned and light. The combo was a perfect balance. I also think the service was exceptional from the servers. Courteous and friendly. Will definitely be back to try more flavors in the future!!! read more

The location is a little weird but the popcorn and customer service are outstanding! My first time here and I purchased a medium triple mix: - Kettle corn - my favorite, hands down, with a sweet hard coating - White cheddar - second favorite, cheesy and brings the necessary salt aspect - Butter - have to always go traditional! Buttery, buttery and more butter rounds out the mix. Picked myself up a customer purchase punch card, which I'm sure will be filled by the end of the year :) Don't let the location deter you (see Jamie W.'s review for store front pics). I found out that they do have a seasonal flavor. Fall is pumpkin spice, I believe. Winter will be peppermint chocolate. I believe I heard s'mores comes out in time for Valentine's Day. read more

I would have rated a one star however, the popcorn favor is still good. That being said... I am very disappointed with my experience with a long time snack. Today I stopped by the truck in downtown DC to purchase an after lunch snack as I so often have done. To my surprise and grave disappointment you have changed the packaging and the size but not the prices. This smaller plastic bag in no way holds the same amount of popcorn as the previous brown paper bags. I personally compared the contents. If you are going to use this new packaging, it would be greatly appreciated if you would advertise using those bags and, adjust the cost accordingly. The owner is very friendly and informative about his product. If you happen to show up at the store they will let you sample some of the product so you can get what you like. I bought the bulk bag of caramel popcorn which is about 110cups. It was $45. The prices vary based on the flavor that you choose. Went in today to check out this local business. 2 employees were not wearing masks at all. They never put any on when we came inside. They were busy moving boxes inside to outside. Located in a nondescript warehouse center next to a military memorabilia and firearms store is a magical land of popcorn. It's a small shop but they offer house made flavors that include everything from your standard cheddar, kettle corn, and caramel to the more innovative buffalo (so, so spicy!) and cookies and cream (literally, the best thing in the whole world). The owner is super friendly and it's easy to see that he puts his heart and soul into the operation. He mentioned that before he got into the popcorn business he did clinical trials for big pharma but he loved being able to be more creative and work directly with his customers --who were almost always happy when they walked in. He was right, it's hard not to be happy when being surrounded by a virtual smorgasfood of popcorn. In my life, the only popcorn I've really known to love was Garrett's in Chicago but Popped! Republic is just as good. They even offer an "Obama Mix" with is a very nice dupe (and tons less greasy). I ended up getting an Obama Mix, Buffalo, and Cookies and Cream to put in an Easter basket for the hubs and the owner was nice enough to give me an extra coupon so the boy can pick up a free bag of popcorn the next time his truck is serving near his office. Now that's service! The popcorn itself was evenly popped, filled to the brim of the bag and fresh tasting. It's been two days and we only have one bag left which speaks to how good everything was! Tried this truck back in August, sorry I'm just now getting to my review! I didn't want to, but I can't help but compare this truck to Garrett's popcorn out of Chicago. I got the "Obama mix" which is cheddar and caramel. I can only give 2 stars because the sheer amount of hulls and unpopped kernels (inedible) was a major turn off. It was like a tooth hazard to finish the bag, but it was relatively tasty and I'm greedy so I ate it through it anyway. I had the white cheddar popcorn from the food truck and it was good, but nothing spectacular. I'm not sure how much better it was than mass-produced white cheddar popcorn but nevertheless it was still enjoyable. My major issue though was how expensive it was. Other flavors include Capitol Caramel, Congressional Cheddar, and Beltway Old Bay. Prices vary by a dollar or so depending on what flavor you buy but generally are $4.00 for small, $6.50 for medium, and $9.50 for a large. Large is the most economical. Was at the store next door, and randomly saw this place. Didn't know if it was a store or warehouse at first. Walked up saw some people inside so decided to check it out. It was our first time here, but we were able to sample a little bit of everything! We went with the cherry blossom, mint chocolate chip, as well as the caramel ones. Great popcorn place easily accessible from Duke St. with plenty of parking. Salesperson greeted us quickly and was very friendly and informative. She told us the popcorn is air popped fresh daily and even the basic butter can keep up to 3 weeks. There are a lot of options for both individual, bulk, and catering including gift bags. We bought the medium bag of kettle. So good and crispy and fresh. We're only halfway through the bag and only had 1 unpopped kernel. Can't wait to come back for more to try the other varieties. I've been waiting for the arrival of this food truck, and finally tried it at Trucko De Mayo. The good news is Popped! Republic doesn't lie and when they say the Political Plain popcorn is plain they mean it. This also means you know this is the healthiest form of popcorn you'll find, because it's really just that-popped corn kernels with nothing added. (They claim the plain popcorn is lightly salted, but I had trouble finding the salt). The bad news is the Political Plain was quite dreadful. I guess this type of popcorn is good for people that are allergic to oil? Can you please just add a little more flavor to the plain popcorn, please? Basically, if the Political Plain is going to remain this tasteless, you should keep it off the menu, and only give it to people who request it for any dietary needs. I really liked that they offer a mini size for $1.50, which means I only had to spend $1.50 to find out I was eating the most tasteless popcorn I ever had. I don't care for butter or caramel on my popcorn, so I really only like my popcorn flavored with olive oil, or sprinkled with different spices. Until Popped! Republic offers more flavors in those categories, I will probably stay away. I know it's kind of weird that I am complaining about plain popcorn being tasteless, but if Popped! Republic had a little more options on their menu, I might not been forced to order that. But then again, if Political Plain wasn't on the menu, I probably would have ordered America's Favorite, and maybe would have given Popped! Republic at least 3 stars, assuming America's Favorite had flavor. Oh, the irony. (Stellas's PopKern clearly wins the flavor wars based on options alone). I'll admit - I have a popcorn crush. Before Popped came into my life, I would routinely make huge batches of popcorn on the stove - much to the dismay of my girlfriend - because there is nothing like coming home to the smell of burnt popcorn (I never said I was a good cook...). Then I met Popped Republic. I think our first date was at NoMa Summer Screen two summers ago - I got America's Favorite - classic and highly addictive. Our relationship started slow - once a week when I made it to NoMa. Indeed, before long, my first question, before I asked what movie was playing, was whether Popped would be there. Before long, I was a Facebook fan and obsessively followed the Popped truck around the city - from 7th and Indiana near my office, to NoMa, randomly one night near Union Station - wherever I could grab a tiny bag to snack on, or a larger bag to gorge on for the rest of the week. They are consistently friendly, thankful for their return customers, and they sure do pack the popcorn into those bags. I am a particular fan of America's Favorite, though I have been known to partake in the Obama Mix - white cheddar and caramel - sweet and salty - can't go wrong. I am most thankful, though, to be able to support a small family business that is growing into a great success. I am so happy to follow their expansion into the retail store market in Alexandria, and their online presence (I have a pending order for a huge tin of popcorn for my girlfriend's family!) - all are very welcome additions to their business. read more

Popped Republic's popcorn (which is available in DC via its truck) is great. The truck can frequently be found in front of the Foggy Bottom Whole Foods Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. The truck offers a variety of flavors (probably a total of 8 or 9) in small, medium, and large sizes. There are two cheddar flavors-- congressional cheddar (orange), white house (white) as well as several other savory flavors including jalapeno, buffalo, old bay, and butter. There are also a bunch of sweet flavors, including caramel, kettle, and maple glaze. There are also a few drizzled flavors, including dark chocolate drizzled kettle, chocolate drizzled caramel, white chocolate drizzled caramel, dark chocolate drizzled caramel, cookies 'n creme kettle corn, heath bar kettle corn, peanut butter cup kettle corn, and cinnamon roll kettle corn. The kernels themselves are round and thoroughly coated in whatever flavor they are ordered. There have been few (if any) un-popped kernels in any of the (many) bags that I've bought from them. Both cheddar and the buffalo flavors rank as personal favorites as does the kettle corn. Interestingly, the caramel is a bit too sweet for me, though any thick caramel fans may become quite enamored of it. And, in addition to being able available in any size, patrons can also order a mix of two, or even three flavors. For those of you familiar with Garrett's Popcorn, it's the D.C. version of the Chicago Mix (duh). I like the simplicity of their menu items, the generous portions of popcorn, and the heat coming from the bag. I decided that today was the day I would give this popcorn truck a second chance - and, well, I'll just say that this time was much better than the last. Perhaps I ordered the wrong thing before, because this time I tried a small Obama Mix (cheddar + caramel), and for some reason, the two flavors work really well together. Surprisingly well. I still found the caramel popcorn to be a bit heavy-handed, but this time it wasn't at all greasy, which is a definite improvement. It's STILL not Fisher's - nothing compares with Fisher's! - but it was MUCH better. The cheddar is very strong and tart and delicious - it actually set off the contrast between the two, and it just ... works. I don't know how else to describe it. No line this time, and the guy was a lot faster about preparing it. I do wish it was hot, though - nothing tastes better than hot, fresh popcorn. Stuffed to the brim with popcorn, no kernels or hulls here. Since this worked out so well, I'm much more inclined to come back and try their other flavors. So I seriously hate doing this as I passed them today and had a popcorn craving and they scratched the itch well enough...AND they were so nice. Really, they are so very nice and that makes me suck as a human for not just giving them four stars for niceness...and I mean that...Hell, they should get five stars for niceness!! But, truly, as others have said and I can testify, Stella's is the best thing going in food truck popcorn out there. There really is no competition if you are a popcorn freak and need to get your groove on once or twice a week. I had a special Congressional White Cheddar, I think, and although it was good, it was nowhere near Stella's in the stratosphere of the same popcorn that they offer. Mind you, this is still good popcorn. It beats out whatever that black bag of popcorn with cheddar is that you see everywhere...Feel Good? Health Pop? Damned if I can remember but you know what I mean... But this is better. Superior, even. But it is not Stella's. Sadly, I think nothing might be Stella's for a long time. And that makes us all crack/kernel heads, no? But don't think this popcorn is bad...it is not. RACHEL IS AWESOME!!!!!! Ok a week before my lil sis baby shower I had a brainstorm. I wanted gourmet popcorn as a happy favor for the shower. "READY TO POP" was the theme of the baby showers candy & snack bar. So I did what I do best and I googled local gourmet popcorn locations. Well Popped Republic had what I was looking for, for the price I wanted to spend. There was only one issue. I live 1 hour away, they close at 3 and I get off work at 5:30. YIKKKESSSS!!!! I must have this popcorn!!!!! Well after calling a few of my VA connects and talking to the lovely miss Rachel who is the manager. She was trying her best to accommodate me,I finally worked it out. Sometimes you have to step back talk out your issue with friends and they can show you things that are right in front of you. I was able to find someone to pick up the sensitive materials for me...... MY DADDY!!!! My girlfriend had to remind me that my parents live right in the area and my father drives pass the store location everyday for work. (WHAT?!!!!!!. don't judge me, I was planning a baby shower and my brain was at capacity) Now, Popped Republic does ship via FedEx to your location of choice, but I wanted the Chocolate dipped K street Kettle Corn (Lord have MERCY!!!! It is so good). Due to the summer heat this is a pick up only product. Once the logistics of the care package was secured (sorry my dad was in the military for 20+ years) I called Rachel who remembered me and my dilemma, purchased my popcorn and she had it all ready to go and waiting for my dad to pick it up the very next morning. She even personally hand delivered it to him. THE POPCORN WAS A HUGE SUCCESS!!!!! I ordered the K street Kettle corn which is salty and sweet and highly addictive, I also ordered the chocolate dipped K street Kettle corn. The guest raved about how good the popcorn was,so much so the next day I was receiving text messages about how good it was and where could they find it! POPPED! I hate to say it, but this was almost no different than eating a bag of microwaveable popcorn (but just pricier, I guess). Now I'm pretty much a self-proclaimed popcorn connoisseur. I love Stella's PopKern and get a bag each week and frequently make stove-popped popcorn at home as well, so I really, truly do love it. Now the popcorn I had from Popped Republic would just fall under mediocre. The kernels, unlike Stella's, are the regular "butterfly" kernels you'd find at the grocery store/in theaters. OK, that's fine. But flavor/seasoning? Well, I had opted for America's Favorite, which is just butter and salt (what can I say? I like the classics!). It was supremely underwhelming. The butter flavoring was probably added to the popcorn pre-popping instead of being coated afterwards, which makes for pretty dry, generic-tasting popcorn. I mean, even movie theaters make it better! So all in all, you pay $3 for a small bag of blah. Maybe the other flavors (cheddar, caramel corn) are better? Meh, I probably won't be going back anytime soon to find out. read more
