Our family visits every other year and Popo's has been a tradition of ours. We usually stay in Kapaa and make the 40 min drive over to Hanapepe within the first two days. Those ones we eat while there. Before leaving we drive over and plan our day around a pick up for family and friends. YES they are that good! Erin has always been helpful and we enjoy chatting with her. For the most part the are shortbread consistency so if you prefer soft cookies this won't be the place. For all you others out there that like the snap of a cookie...stop here! Luckily they offer shipping now too so I can send to my folks for the holidays...and for the record Popo's is the only HAVE TO when we visit. read more

The owner was so nice! She was helpful and told my mother in law her wild story of ownership! When you go make sure you ask her. The cookies...delicious. I felt it was only right to try a cookie with macadamia nuts, which she also said were the most popular. So we got the chocolate chip macadamia nut. The cookies are the thin crispy cookies. I'm a soft cookie lover but these were very good. So very buttery. The people in my party also got the white chocolate macadamia nut and the coconut. They both reported they were also good! Highly recommend. read more

Popo's Cookies was a cute little shop on Kauai. It's tucked in the back behind a couple other businesses, so a little hard to find. The cookies were very yummy! We picked up a couple bags when we went into the shop. The cookies are harder cookies but have plenty of flavor that burst in your mouth. There's only 2 people allowed inside because of COVID and the space is so small. The lady working inside was super friendly and nice. Definitely stop by Popo's Cookies when you're on Kauai. read more

This is a cute little cookie shop. The cookies are terrific - especially the coconut cookies and the chocolate chip macadamia cookies. These are crisp cookies. The person at the counter was not in a good mood but it was a hot day and she looked like she had a long one already. I will be back for more of the coconut cookies. Price was $5.75 per bag in July 2023. No discount for buying multiple bags. read more

Great little cookie shop with delicious light, crunchy cookies!! The owners: Erin & Kevin are wonderful people who are very passionate about their shop and put out very good cookies!! We especially enjoyed the chocolate chip macadamia nut cookies, chocolate chip, and butter cookies. Ambiance here is super clean, organized and fun with the shop tucked behind the main road in a little alley area with outside tables and other eateries nearby. Came here as a quick stop for a sweet treat before our flight. Cookies were good, shop was small but cute! The employee was nice and we were in and out quick. As for the cookies themselves, everyone loved them. We got peanut butter, chocolate macadamia, and keola deelites. Would recommend this place to anyone hanging out in Hanapepe! read more

We were walking around town and happened to be lured in by the sweet smell of butter! My aunt and I stopped in and purchased a few bags and she even scooped some "butter dreams"' off the pan and put them in the bag! Erin was kind enough to leave the bag unsealed as we paid for our goods and proceeded to munch down the entire bag on the way back to the car. Somehow we left a morsel for the others to try, and the first bite sealed the deal! We hauled ourselves back out of the car to go get more!!! These cookies are so buttery, crunchy, and delicious yet so simple with pure ingredients! Alllsooo if you are like us and are pursuit while on the islands for cornflake cookies, look no further!! We were wandering around around Hanapepe during its Art Night (every Friday 5-8pm), and followed the signs for Popo's Cookies. With live music playing in a beautiful & quaint courtyard, we were already greeted with a lovely ambience. A really nice couple owns the shop! After buying the almond cookies, we tried the butter cookie samples and they were SO GOOD. So I'm definitely going to come back for the different flavors. I got almond because "Popo" means grandma in Chinese, and I wanted to try Chinese cookies. I really enjoyed reading the history of Popo's Cookies through their website and through others' reviews here! Stumbled across this shop with my boyfriend, and wandered to the back courtyard. Such a quaint location! We couldn't pick a flavor so we ended up with 4 bags! Our favorite so far is the chocolate chip cookies. My boyfriend is a huge fan of crunchy cookies & these definitely hit the spot for him! I may also be a crunchy cookie convert, now.... Fantastic cookies and the owner is extremely friendly! This place is hidden behind little shops off the "main" drag but well worth it. The chocolate chip with macadamia nut was outstanding. We ate multiple before we even made it back to our car. The owner asked all about our honeymoon and gave us recommendations on where else to visit. Truly felt welcomed by a local which felt great. read more

My girlfriend and I went to Kauai and found the Butter Dreams at a little market. They were so buttery and just melted in your mouth. So much better than the other popular hawaiian shortbread cookie there. Had to go back for more to take back to Cali!! I bought 6 packs and my girlfriend bought 3. Gave a pack to my mom and she loved them. Butter Dreams and Chocolate Chip Macadamia nut to my sister, and Macadamia Nut to my boss. I was easily tempted to keep them myself. They are the best. Wish the could sell them on the mainland or through Amazon.com etc.... It does not get better than these!! Buy many!!! read more

We were walking around the stores in Hanapepe and around the corner I smelt the freshly baked fragrance. Its actually in back of a few stores. I went inside and the lady was very friendly saying that in about 10 minutes there will be a new batch of chocolate chip cookies. I came back and ordered 6 cookies. Very good and can't beat warm cookies straight from the oven. read more

If you really love crunchy cookies then you will love this place! We got the macadamia nut cookie and the chocolate coconut. If I had to recommend one it would be the macadamia nut. The coconut chocolate didn't have as much flavor as I would've liked. The business owner was very friendly and the place had a cute vibe. read more

When in or near Hanapepe, roll in to Popo's. Located at the East end of Hanapepe Road just where it turns into the "downtown" area. It is tucked back in a courtyard shared with Little Fish Coffee. This business is the realization and passion of a young couple living the island dream, doing what you love where you love. Owner is always on site creating fresh and delicious treats made from local ingredients. Warning: they are addictive and you'll have trouble stopping at just one. Popo means Grandma in Chinese. Many decades ago, my wife remembers Popo's Cookies on Kauai and that these cookies were onolicious! But like all sweet Popos, they get older and pass on. If I understand the story correctly, Popo's family kept her legacy of onolicious cookies going, but as the generations progressed, they decided to pass on the torch. In came a new and enthusiastic owner, one who agreed to follow the recipes to the dot. One who has put in long labor of love hours to produce, once again, one of Kauai's most onolicious cookies! Popo's Cookies is hidden in a courtyard just down a tiny gravel alley way off Hanapepe Road. Hanapepe has a number of little gems (especially on Friday evenings). This is one of those gems you don't want to miss! We actually visited Popo's Cookies in July 2017 (not just once, but twice). What a fun shop!! When you are on vacation you should stop in and grab a bag of cookies. We tried 4 different flavors and they were perfect with coffee or milk. A must try when going to the Friday Night Art Crawl. My favorites were the Macaroons, the Chocolate Chip and Macadamia, and there was one similar to a Russian Tea cake but with macadamia nuts. One of the little gems in Hanapepe Old Town, Kauai. A little family bakery specializing in hand made cookies using family recipes. Family run. "Popo" means grandma - she founded the business decades ago. If you are in Hanapepe visiting the galleries and artists, it's worth the visit to PoPo's. read more

Cookies are delicious. Made a special trip to the store hoping they would offer samples and perhaps offer a discount since it's the factory store, as I was going to buy several bags as gifts. Turns out this store charges almost a dollar more than other stores that sell it on the island. I found the cookies for $3.99 at Sueokas. Not worth the drive to Hanapepe to pay more per bag. They charge $4.83 per bag at this store. read more

It's such a cute little mom-and-pop spot, super welcoming and simple in the best way. The second you walk in, it just feels warm and genuine. The roasted pork rice dish was honestly the best I've ever had in my life. The pork was perfectly cooked, so flavorful along with the cravy, and everything tasted incredibly fresh and homemade. Best mac salad as well. They have other rice dishes too, can't wait to come back to try these. You can really tell how much care goes into the food here. And the malasadas... easily some of the freshest we had in Kauai. Soft, warm, and just perfect -- the kind you wish you had ordered more of right away. They have both simple malasadas and filled ones (get the coconut one!!!) The whole experience honestly felt like you were eating at your auntie's house. So comforting, so friendly, and just really special. If you're anywhere near Hanapepe, this place is 100% worth stopping for. I'm already thinking about that roasted pork and can't wait to come back next time I'm in Kauai.

Another cooking our malasada order. Our church has ordered their malasadas which I enjoyed and wanted. They generously donated some as well. I ordered 6 with vanilla filling and no sugar (so I could warm up without burning). And 2 with sugar to eat immediately. They gave us extras ... Plain with sugar (it was doughy on the inside could've used extra time in the fryer) I gave this to my daughter who air fried it and said it was ono! Honestly, it's not your Leonard's but it's pretty decent on the heavier side which I like. The person that helped was very sweet... Will go back to try their other food and maybe a couple more malasadas!!

We walked in a little before lunch time and ordered the double Loco Moco to share as we were hungry. You order at the counter and find a table. They will bring it to you. You can choose from many options for drinks also. While waiting for the food we had to look at the cookies some of which are not available on the mainland. The food came out quickly and WOW there was a large portion. The Loco Moco was amazing and filling. The place fills up quickly once lunch time comes around. Bought lots of cookies before we left. If you need a restroom it is shared with other businesses so it is outside.

My wife and I specifically came to the area to sample their beers and try their food, and found the beer to good/great while the food was OK. It opens at 11 on weekdays, and we arrived soon after, so found street parking easily. We were some of the first customers, and our choice of inside seating. The building is two stories, with the upstairs being used as an arcade (classic 80's pinball machines). The large bar is the center of the downstairs, and they sell shop memorabilia as well. Tried a 4 sampler flight (no discount for flight, just sum of the 5 oz beers chosen). Their most popular is the Lilikoi, which we had just tried at a restaurant a couple days before, so we skipped that. Instead we got: Chupa lager (Mexican cerveza which was refreshing), Wheat (which was my least favorite...kinda flat/limp with little flavor), Alaka'I Stout (my favorite, creamy and almost chocolatey), and a Sour with calamansi (which my wife liked the best, I thought it tasted like a shandy). As for food, we got two entrees. My wife got the Kalua Pork Sandwich ($22): pretty much all pulled pork sandwiches are called Kalua in Hawaii, no matter how it is made. That being said, this version was OK with the fries being very good (similar to Five Guys fries, fried in peanut oil maybe). I had my favorite: Loco Moco ($22) which was well prepared, and the white rice was good. But the beef patty was mediocre (tasted like a standard preformed food service patty from frozen...it wouldn't have stood out in a burger). The one egg was cooked well and I really liked the homemade gravy. There is a 3% credit card surcharge, and Toast is the payment processor.

It has a choice of turkey or ham, Kauai lettuce, local tomato, white sweet onion and mayo. My favorite pastry is the Mac nut cinnamon roll. It's sweet, sticky and amazing. My favorite item from the lunch menu is the "Roasted Chicken sandwich." The sandwich has roasted rosemary chicken, roasted onions, tomato, lettuce and pesto mayo on ciabatta bread. I really like the friendly staff and the cute store. Be prepared for a line during lunch because they have a great local following.
