Midrange burgers and pizza, with a few artisanal ingredients to bump up its quality a bit, but you're not going to meet a master chef here. Family-friendly, sporty stuff on the TV's, and there's nice lay back couches or chairs at your table. Decent but unmemorable beer and wine selection, but at these Portugal prices, you can't so easily thumb your nose at them (I've been in far more disingenuous places in the U.S.). If you're not looking for that seminal Portuguese dish on your vacation, want to eat a little more casual and no-frills, bring family, then "Popolo" easily is suffice. #goodtimes

Food is just barely ok. Coffee not good. It's just a tourist spot so they don't really worry about your returning businesses

Having experienced fado outside of Portugal I didn't feel strongly that it was a must-do, but when I found myself at night on the street that is known for fado I prioritized it. For the best fado experience I recommend an intimate space, hopefully crowded with people but also with a view to the performers. Tasca do Chico is exactly that place. The doorman told us that space was standing room only, at the (tiny) bar. From there we could see and hear the performers while ordering food and drink. We'd not been there long before we were offered an available seat at a table which caused us to order more food and drink and stay a little longer. The fado here is quite good, made even more enjoyable as the artists change quite frequently; a song or two and a new artist steps forward, all very talented and enjoyable to watch and hear. The fado places tend to have lines out the door and a doorman managing entry. A place across the street looked much bigger but the intimacy is, in my opinion, what makes the experience both unique and special. Even if you have to start at the bar, Tasca do Chico is a great place to experience fado.

On the bright side, I met some new friends in line, and honestly, it was worth it even though I hoped the wait was shorter. The drinks and performances were incredible and exceeded my expectations. It's a small place so the performances felt very intimate, what a memorable night! Just a heads up: they only take cash, so don't make the same mistake I did. Cheers!

This place delivers such a joyful experience and I would have gladly gone again...except I had to leave Lisbon the next morning. I will miss Lisboa é Linda. First night: Delicious amuse-bouche; fantastic spinach soup; cuttlefish with ink risotto; éclair with pistachio cream; two different rosés; 10-year port. Second night: an even tastier amuse-bouche; the perfect spinach soup (the same, I liked it so much); tuna in a ginger/garlic reduction; roasted kid crépine with broccoli rabe; hazelnut crème brûlée; two different white wines; 50-year port (phenomenal). I was in heaven and still am just thinking of it all. The kindness and expertise of staff and owner topped it all off.

And the decor is creative and captivating. We started with an few apps ...duck, tempura string beans and grilled lettuce. I could have stopped there but glad I didn't. I had the octopus with spinach and it was divine. The catch was straight from the Algarve. My friend had tofu curry and loved it. The wine menu is extensive but they will help you navigate it easily. If you are not drinking they have yummy fresh juice options as well. This authentic Portuguese gem is not to be missed!!!

This was a place I was really excited about. My husband and I walked down to another restaurant to…read moreeat and passed by and saw the big chalk sign out front that said "Vegan, Vegetarian, Gluten Free!"... I have Celiac disease and so navigating food when traveling is always an experience for me and I immediately tagged this place as one we would return to. Sadly, when we went and I said I needed to be gluten-free and asked if they had a separate menu when I only saw three items the server said "We really don't have a lot." ...then why is it advertised in huge letters on the sign outside? Felt strange. The service was exceptional of course - none of this at all is a condemnation of the employees - they were all great and attentive and helpful... I just think the advertising of the menu and branding needs... some rework? The check arrived with major sticker shock for fries, wings, and sangria (that was way way too sweet). We spend a good amount of our disposable income on dining out, with intent, and the value ratio for this one was... off. Environment? Very chill neighborhood "burger bar" type place. There are some couches and lots of art on the walls for purchase and pretty extensive beer list - larger than I had seen at any other restaurant in Alfama and beyond.
