Stopped in to grab breakfast while visiting my father. I guess it's a small local chain, with 4 or 5 locations in the area. We were seated quicky, wait staff was friendly, it has an old timey diner feel, but much bigger than it looks from the outside. Their menu is pretty extensive, offering a good variety of breakfast items, salads, sandwiches for lunch, burgers, entrees, steaks and even seafood, though they are only open for breakfast and lunch. But there's sure to be something on this menu for anyone you're dinging with. I ordered a "Quickie" from the breakfast platters, scrambled edges with diced ham, which also came with choice of toast and hash browns. The food came out quickly (as the name indicated), and tasted great. Pricing was fair and reasonable. Based on this visit, I'd recommend Popi's Place, and would go back again to try some of their other food options. read more

The food was amazing. The salad was very fresh and crisp. The chicken (sounds weird but it was also really fresh real chicken meat) was crispy, moist and great flavor. I usually don't like chicken because it's dry but another Massachusetts neighbor recommended it and I'm so glad I came to try it out. The fries were hot and perfect. The honey mustard sauce was also yummy. My husband's skillet was on the soft side. He enjoyed the flavors but the potatoes were not as crispy as he typically likes them but we'll be back. We got seated very quickly despite the full parking lot which was another win! Tammy was a cheerful and very pleasant person taking our order and smiled! It was so nice! This place is a top notch Greek diner. I had the Greek omelet which was delicious although could have used more feta. The real winner of this breakfast was the homemade biscuits! Omg! I don't usually eat an entire biscuit in one sitting but I made room for this one. It was so delicious, flakey and buttery. Stopped in after church for breakfast around 10:30 on a Sunday and the place was pretty crowded... Waitresses and staff were nice but clearly overworked... Took over an hour to get our eggs and pancakes... I ordered the biscuits and gravy... It came out an unappealing color, the sausage and the biscuits were drier than the Sahara, and everything was ice cold... Not sure I would give this particular location another chance... Nobody else at the table liked their food either... It's a shame because I like to frequent family owned restaurants. read more

We had a great experience for lunch today at Popi's Place IV. We each ordered the Greek salad topped with Gyro meat and Spanakopita. The salads, tzaziki sauce and the Greek dressing were excellent. Popi's IV serves the best gyro pita I've had in a long time. It's homemade, nicely spiced with Greek oregano, and very thinly sliced. Mom had a grilled crab cake, which had lots of lump meat. Dad got to meet Popi, and Sam was an awesome server! read more

Trying to give it 3.5 stars...but cannot figure out how...This is a traditional "all-day" breakfast type diner - they open early and close early too at 2:30 pm. There is a robust and versatile lunch menu...but I came for breakfast. It's busy..and there is quite a bit of room with a mixture of tables, booths, and counter seats...no outside seating that I noticed though. It's very clean in Popi's....except for the glass window on the door leading to the bathroom area ( bathrooms were very clean however) funny that the smudged, greasy window looked out of character ...perhaps an off day?! So the food and service....that's why we are all here reading this...waitstaff was responsive but not very friendly...She took my order, and brought my coffee. They have decent prices. I ordered the traditional breakfast... eggs-toast potatoes and meat...so two eggs over "very" easy is what I ordered, - .not what returned on my plate- they barely had a runny yolk...I asked my server what she would recommend for the side dish: the house/home fry potatoes or hash browns...she said the hash browns were frozen and offered no further commentary so I chose the house/homefry potatoes. They were tasteless- no onions, peppers, seasoning...nothing other than just plain formerly baked potatoes I am guessing - I chose sausage for the meat - one patty / one link...the patty was okay...I waited for her to come back at least half through my breakfast to refill or top off my first cup of coffee however, that did not happen. She did stop by closer to the end of my meal, and yes, I gladly took a refill. As I sipped it...I started thinking about my review. disappointing overall ...I had such high hopes....there are multiple locations across the area. My boyfriend and I tried Popi's for a lunch date. I ordered the crab cake Benedict and he ordered the regular Benedict. The hollandaise arrived broken which I think our stomachs noticed later- however, the Benedict was tasty- until I found an eyelash on it We had to ASK for a discount because I couldn't finish half of my dish due to the eyelash- that was a little ridiculous.. they did give us half off of the dish, but for us to have to even ask tells me they don't care about their guests all that much. Well this was about the closest thing to a Jersey diner that we found in Florida. Looks like there's a few different Popi locations, we went to the one in Ellenton. Just like Jersey, there's a long counter with seats and even a dessert case. I had a Western omelet which was a little too dry. My husband and I went out for breakfast yesterday morning. Our waitress was attentive and very sweet. She kept our coffee and teas hot and we never lacked for anything. Our breakfast orders were perfect! Kudos to the cooks and wait staff !! The food was excellent and very fresh ! Portions were generous and the prices are reasonable for the entire menu ! Food & service was very good but the reason I am unhappy with the restaurant is their lack of transparency. Times have been tough for many businesses, especially restaurants, and many have increased their prices. I can understand Popi's need to charge an extra 4% on credit card purchases but what I have a problem with is the "sneaky" way in which they go about it. Nowhere in the restaurant or on the menu is there anything indicating this policy. You only know about this when you go to pay. It isn't even a sign, just a card facing up on the counter at the register. This is a business practice that leaves a very poor impression. read more

I like the food here, but I have a major issue with paying 4% on top of my bill because I'm using a credit card. If you need to raise your prices, raise your prices without adding it as a fee. It's a bit insulting to tell you the truth. Most businesses eat the percentage they have to pay on a credit card, which I guarantee is not 4%. They have computer generated signs stating that you get a discount for paying with. However, this is not what they are doing. I don't appreciate a 4% surcharge for, supposedly, paying with a credit card. Especially when after you crunch the numbers, if paying cash, the 4% surcharge is still added to the total to determine the sales and use tax. read more

I had Andy's crab cake benedict with hollandaise sauce. What it should be called is pig slop! The entire plate was overwhelmed with the sauce and the crab cake was the size of a quarter; there was zero seasoning. The english muffin was so hard I could barely cut through it. It was good family dining for a decent price. Don't come expecting former. But it was simple food done well. Service was friendly and efficient. Dixie Cup was our server. Definitely not the young spring chicken, but she patiently dealt with 3 kids and a picky husband. Decor is as simple as the restaurant. Nothing fancy, but tables, floors, and bathrooms were clean. This place is excellent! Little homey, country inside with good service and real good! We've been here several times and each time it's been great. I was surprised at how big the omelet was and how perfectly cooked the grits were! The Spanish guy serving us, was very nice and kept our water and coffe cups full. We told the waitress she got the owner who argued that it wasn't flies but burnt pieces. Burnt pieces don't have wings and legs. We used to eat here a ton until the menu changed and the prices went up. If you want an OK home-cooked meal (breakfast, lunch, or dinner), then stop by Popi's. It's pretty good food, but for lunch and dinner, you could easily eat at Chili's or Applebee's and have better food. The waiters/waitresses are very nice and helpful, and the specials can be a good deal if you catch them. Their specialty is the authentic Greek Gyros for lunch with homemade tazitki sauce. Great place to eat, just need to bring back the old menu and old prices back. I've seen their "original" crowd get smaller and smaller because of the prices. read more
