Guideline: You should really only eat at the Popcorn Wagon after 11pm at night. This is when you…read morefind yourself at least mildly intoxicated, starving and roaming the streets hoping to bump into excitement. There is virtually nowhere to eat late night in Aspen, and regardless of the time of day, there are even fewer places to grab a quick, affordable meal that has a bit of character. Popcorn Wagon meets all of these requirements, and it is open late (I think until 2am!). Yes, it is a wagon, like Aspen's original food truck, but it is always in the same place. I always order the gyro. It is made to order, served hot and piled high with onions on a pillowy pita. In short: delicious. It is cash only, and you will either have to sit next to the fire pit outside or seek interior refuge elsewhere. However, for late night grub this is my first (albeit somewhat only) choice. I admit. Perhaps I go without food so I will have an excuse to dive into a late night gyro here.

It is exactly what it sounds like--a wagon…read morethat serves popcorn. now i know what you think--nothing good comes from a wagon: chuck wagon, a turnip that fell off the wagon, looney wagon, paddy wagon, i can go on for days here. however, the popcorn wagon is an exception to that rule! Popcorn wagon seems to reinvent itself (perhaps under new owners) every few years. Currently, the popcorn wagon is across the street from the Wheeler Opera House and next to Pacifica. When you're sick of paying 9 gagillion dollars for a meal, and just want some chow for cheap and fast, this is the place! They only have a few offerings-- popcorn (of course, 2 bux for a good-sized bag), gyros (AWESOME, 8.75), the gregorian (i think thats what it was called...Turkey or Roast beef on warm pita with gyro fixins), a loaded hotdog (about 5 bux), cheese steaks (10.75) and a smore crepe. They have seating outside around the cart, and a fire pit to warm up the chilly Aspen nights! One tip: the wagon is cash only. come prepared! the cooks are always friendly and aim to please. give the popcorn wagon a try, it will hit the spot!

Unfortunately, he didn't seem very interested in helping or ensuring we received what we asked for. We purchased three pieces of chocolate for $23, which already felt expensive, and when we returned to our hotel we realized they had given us the wrong chocolates--no tiger butter at all. We tried calling the shop to address the mistake, but it went straight to voicemail. Between the lack of customer service, the error with our order, and the high price point, the experience was very disappointing. For the cost, the quality did not meet expectations. Sadly, this place feels past its prime, and I wouldn't recommend it.

That being said, the elderly gentleman who took our order wasn't nearly as sweet as the product he was selling. In fact, he seemed put out to see a patron enter into his establishment at all. Regardless of the stale service received, this is a unique spot for families, with plenty of space for kids to run around, amidst a fun colorfully lit backdrop that gives off an arcade feel from an era gone by. The framed canine on the wall, much beloved by its owner, is a cute touch too. The sweet snacks once sampled back in the car weren't terribly fresh, but we plan to visit again and try more items on the expansive menu.

We enjoyed sampling the olive oils and balsamic vinegars. Dave and Crystal are so knowledgeable about their products. They have the best olive oils from around the world. They helped us with delicious pairings of olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Not only did they help us select our favorite options within the store, but they also guided us on the best way to identity a quality olive oil while grocery chopping. 70% of olive oils in stores are not even really for human consumption! They had some gift packages already put together that were available for purchase. We all bought some great oils and vinegars for ourselves and for gifts. I ended up buying 2 different olive oils, balsamic vinegars for us and gifts, truffle olive oil and truffle salt, and olive body lotion. We had the best time and will definitely be back soon! Oh and be sure and get a truffle popcorn sample, it is so good!

It was simply more than customer service; it was hospitality with the warmest heart. Her kind gesture was impeccable where my daughter and I walked out of the store smiling like the sun! Well, I do have to say more than that. Her shop is extremely organized. First off, the sign that reads, "Please no opening the container and smelling; we will be happy to assist you for that" or something along those lines. All those glass containers that contain spices, teas and oils, the owner must assist you so that you can smell them. This does keep every single container clean and sanitary. Cross-contamination is no joke, right? Second, the selection of each category (spice, tea and oil) is so wide range, but they are meticulously displayed/lined up from caffeinated to mildly caffeinated to non-caffeinated for teas (for example); you will not be confused as to where to get the right kind of each category. Let's go back to the owner. She kindly shared her personal story as to where she was originally from, when she moved to CO etc. I truly enjoy this kind of small talk so when she became so personable to us we simply couldn't stop talking (we had some afternoon plans back in Denver so we need to go have lunch so eventually we ended our conversation.) We got several pouches of teas and spices. Each pouch was about $6.99. This price is pretty reasonable/average. I wish this store was in my neighborhood.
