There is virtually nowhere to eat late night in Aspen, and regardless of the time of day, there are even fewer places to grab a quick, affordable meal that has a bit of character. Popcorn Wagon meets all of these requirements, and it is open late (I think until 2am!). Yes, it is a wagon, like Aspen's original food truck, but it is always in the same place. I always order the gyro. It is made to order, served hot and piled high with onions on a pillowy pita. In short: delicious. It is cash only, and you will either have to sit next to the fire pit outside or seek interior refuge elsewhere. However, for late night grub this is my first (albeit somewhat only) choice. I admit. Perhaps I go without food so I will have an excuse to dive into a late night gyro here.

Popcorn wagon seems to reinvent itself (perhaps under new owners) every few years. Currently, the popcorn wagon is across the street from the Wheeler Opera House and next to Pacifica. When you're sick of paying 9 gagillion dollars for a meal, and just want some chow for cheap and fast, this is the place! They only have a few offerings-- popcorn (of course, 2 bux for a good-sized bag), gyros (AWESOME, 8.75), the gregorian (i think thats what it was called...Turkey or Roast beef on warm pita with gyro fixins), a loaded hotdog (about 5 bux), cheese steaks (10.75) and a smore crepe. They have seating outside around the cart, and a fire pit to warm up the chilly Aspen nights! One tip: the wagon is cash only. come prepared! the cooks are always friendly and aim to please. give the popcorn wagon a try, it will hit the spot!

Some wacky and unique flavors include cheese corn, and peanut corn. It looks like they have about 10 different and unique flavors. Aside from their Caramel Crisp, they have delightful Caramel dipped Apples that are covered in different colored sprinkles and peanuts or simply plain. I think it's also helpful to say that they offer sugar free option candy and salt water taffy. Their bulk candy is weighed and sold between $2.00 and $5.00 depending on the weight. We enjoyed sampling the olive oils and balsamic vinegars. Dave and Crystal are so knowledgeable about their products. They have the best olive oils from around the world. They helped us with delicious pairings of olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Not only did they help us select our favorite options within the store, but they also guided us on the best way to identity a quality olive oil while grocery chopping. 70% of olive oils in stores are not even really for human consumption! They had some gift packages already put together that were available for purchase. We all bought some great oils and vinegars for ourselves and for gifts. I ended up buying 2 different olive oils, balsamic vinegars for us and gifts, truffle olive oil and truffle salt, and olive body lotion. We had the best time and will definitely be back soon! Oh and be sure and get a truffle popcorn sample, it is so good!

If I find something I truly love, I would be more than willing to make a point of going out of way to stop by a store or even order something across the country. I especially love herbal teas as well. I have quite a large collection of teas and spices from around the world that I'm always looking to add to, which is why when I found this place during my honeymoon I was ecstatic. All that quickly ended when I felt uneasy upon being greeted by an older lady who was alone running the shop. She seemed high strung which I can understand - I've worked retail and ran small family owed business before. I chalked it up to just stress, so I tried being polite and thankful for her help. I'm not an abrasive guy. I understand everyone has good days and bad days so I continued exploring the shop eager to bring home some treasures. After a few minutes I found something I was interested in, and so I asked the lady (politely) if I could smell this spice blend. What happened next was so embarrassing and shameful the thought of buying anything from this person made me sick. She raised her voice at me from across the room with other customers in the store saying "NO NO NO NO!" Walked over to me and took the jar out of my hand and proceeded to talk to me like I was a child while dangling the jar in front of me. Essentially, telling me I was stupid for even asking. Immediately afterwards she gave me one of those half a$$ apologies for her outburst. You know, one of those "I'm sorry but not really" apologies and then tried to justify her behavior with a bunch of... blah blah blah (Sorry, at this point in the story I was not really listening, but rather planning my escape from this psycho). Now, I'm not going to go into everything she said but I will say I'm VERY familiar with people like this lady. The one piece of advice I have for the others who have shared my experience with this lady (which I know there are because I've seen the other Google reviews) is that people like this are never sorry. They could say sorry a thousand times and still act out of line 20 minutes later. That being said, to whomever may stumble across this review, save yourself the insults and embarrassment and go somewhere else. I don't know if this lady owns this business but if she does, she doesn't deserve your money or your time. After my wife and I stood there and waited for her to finish talking we quickly left. Instead, we went to Overland down the street where the employees were extremely nice and dropped hundreds of dollars. I wish I could have spent some of it at Spice and Tea Merchants but I guess they didn't want my business. Oh well. July 2026 Update: This store location appears to now be privately owned by the same lady who is mentioned in so many negative reviews on Google. Location is no longer known as Spice and Tea Merchants. Now, it is known as Breckenridge Tea & Spice. Unfortunately, the change in ownership or at the very least the change in name will not result in any better customer experiences as it is still operated by the same deplorable lady. This lady was a franchisee of the once Spice and Tea Merchants in Breckenridge. My guess is this location has been sold to her and now privately owned by her, hence the name change. The gist of it is different name, same management/owner. Same inexcusable behavior. Same condescending behavior. Same disdainful nature toward her customers as proven by the many more recent reviews on Google.
