She created easy to follow steps for us to understand difficult cast, face or figure drawings and paintings. She gives amazing anatomy lectures and demos on understading bones and muscles and drawing them. Her painting mathod of starting from big planes and gradually going to smaller planes and details is wonderful and very helpful. She also has an incredible pallette and methods to avoid seeing any dirty colors in any painting. She even helps us find creative subjects for our projects. Each of Alexandra's students create outstanding and at the same time different body of works due to her individual help and attention.

I loved the materials they used, the creativity they both employed and encouraged, and the patience they exhibited with the kids. So when my daughter wanted to enroll in art classes, it was a no-brainer. Of course I was going to send her to The Art Room. Class sizes are small, the room is intimate but spacious, and instruction is personalized and very, very good. She consistently came home with beautiful artwork and learned about and applied new techniques with each class, including a lovely "under the sea" watercolor using salt to create bubbles. This is the most abusive teacher. My brother discontinued lessons after 7 months. I went to get his…read moreportfolio. He yelled at me and my mom how he cant find his portfolio and now his class his failing because he has to keep looking for the portfolio. I told him that its not my fault he lost the portfolio. He started yelling at me and telling me I do not have room to talk and he placed his hand on me to tell me to shut up. A person as this verbally abusive and erratic should not be around children. I imagine they will report this review and try to get it removed and paint a false picture of what happened. Any man that can yell, harass, insult, and put his hands on someone is not fit to teach, let alone be around kids. All we wanted was my brother's portfolio. There was no need for insults.

Loved touring the Giant 5 story Science Building!!! Each floor focused on one type of science and had multiple labs running on each floor. Hands on science happening and students actually doing experiments and writing research papers and publishing them. Cutting edge changes all over the campus and the new planetarium is fantastic. Free shows Wednesdays at 12:30 for any one. Classes must be on campus for the show to be on. Run by a superb woman with a PHd in Astronomy so she can really show you stuff and answer all your questions! Been now 4 times and each time.saw a different show! So awesome. My son is 8 years old and comes here once a week to Ms Billy's class and always looks forward to…read moreit. It's a place where he receives careful supervision and instruction but it's also a place where he feels free to create and his style and quirks are appreciated. At the recommendation of his teacher at his elementary school, my son recently submitted a portfolio and completed a supervised exam to be considered for entry into a respected conservatory for students who show promise in the visual arts- this conservatory hosts this admission process once a year, so it's a big deal and there are a TON of kids and it's very competitive. The exam portion includes completing a still life and a free draw, both supervised. My son passed and is now under consideration. It's true he has some God-given talent and drive, but we could not have given our son the guidance that Art/Work/Place provided, and he had been attending this studio for about six/seven months by the time he submitted his portfolio. We actually didn't even tell Art/Work/Place or Ms Billy that our son was going to be doing this or submitting any kind of portfolio, so whatever they taught him they were teaching to other students and without prejudice. He went from drawing quirky and funny pictures at home to composing quite beautiful and sophisticated still life pieces, and I have been so impressed by how much more motivated my son is to really create on his own. Bottom line, my son loves this studio, it's one of his safe spaces, and Ms Billy has been so encouraging and so kind and enthusiastic, and she was so proud to hear about our son's accomplishment. Right now we just want to see how far he will go here. We really appreciate all they do.

I have to say I'm disappointed in Ms Billy. Initially she seemed like a great teacher - as my son…read morehad positive feedback and seemed to enjoy the class. Gradually my son would come home sad and upset. At first, I brushed off his complaints as maybe he just had a random rough day. Today, I picked up my son and Ms. Billy complained about his projects and all kinds of stuff right in front of my son. My son came to the car crying feeling terrible about his artwork. I asked him several questions about what happened as I didn't want to make any rash judgements about the teacher. He explained that he felt that Ms. Billie was being mean to him and that he was really struggling with clay (it's a new skill for him). I asked if she helps him with his clay a little extra since he's obviously struggling more than the rest of the more experienced students (I'd think she'd spend a little extra time with him). He said no - she was drinking tea and when she came back he had made a snail project where its tongue broke off and couldn't put it back on. He said he destroyed it and my son said she made another mean comment to him: "ohh so you're breaking stuff, instead of making stuff". He was struggling to put on the tongue, which you didn't help him with. Ms. Billy told me it was Gary the snail which didn't go with the CA theme they're working on. Ok. My question is: how is one of your struggling students able to make an entire snail project without you noticing until he's that far along with it? Then, the tongue falls ogf of it, you make a comment to him about it being wrong, he destroys it, you make another comment to him about him about breaking things instead of making things. Ok. If she's going to drink tea instead of helping struggling students then she shouldn't be surprised about them struggling. He said she was helping the other students - not him so much. He also said he got up to grab a toothpick, and she said to him "you're disrupting the entire class" and he was embarrassed that all the kids stared at him. He wasn't being defiant but she keeps treating him as if he is. My son said he was really surprised at how mean Ms. Billy was treating him - he genuinely didn't know he was doing anything wrong, She did sound agitated when she was complaining to me about my son. I know my son - he's not a bad kid and he's super kind. I'm not just saying that because he's my son. He truly is. I'm the type of person that takes criticism well and I'm happy to help correct behavior when necessary. In this case, I really feel that Ms. Billy is not spending enough time with struggling students - in my sons case not understanding instructions according to her. I didn't appreciate her putting my son down in front of both my husband and I. Ms. Billy made it sound as if my son was being defiant - I can assure you my son is not defiant - he genuinely is just having a hard time with the project! He's asking for help from his teacher in his own 8 year old way. He just turned 8 by the way. Mrs. Elizabeth in the front is amazing on the other hand! Very helpful and kind lady.
