Beautiful three dimensional work. Feels like a fairytale on the wall.

Enormous gallery with work from a ton of local artists. It doesn't look it from the outside, but it goes on forever when you get inside. The work there is vibrant, edgy, playful and sometimes a little raunchy, so if you're concerned about that it may be best to leave the kids at home! The one-of-a-kind works are sometimes understandably pricey but not absurdly so, but many of the artists sell small prints in the $20 - $30. Would definitely come back when we have some more money to spend.

We came in to support a friend's exhibit in the Dollmination exhibit and were pleasantly surprised by what else they had on display as well. We were pleasantly surprised that there was no entry fee. I even offered a donation and he said, no thanks. For a small storefront, there were a variety of amazing exhibits. They have exhibiting artists and in-house artists. The coolest thing to me was that it's also a working studio and there was an artist there that day working on some things. Some of the artwork was an eye opener for my kids, but this sparked a lot of conversations! I should have taken a photo of the coffee table that looks like a coffin. No dinner party with that as the centerpiece would be lacking for conversation. I look forward to dropping in the next time I'm downtown or attending an event sometime!

I've been here twice, and both times this place has been packed and a veritable hub of artists and art-connoisseurs alike. The vibe can be hit or miss, so make sure you look into the art/ artists that will be showcased here during your visit. I happen to love urban art, and I got my fill, and then some on my Saturday-night visit. We're talking cutesy emo art from Super Emo Friends, to darker, somewhat disturbing art from Paz, to amazing urban-themed art from Stephan Canthal, and so much more. Personally, I feel there are better places to get your art fix that doesn't involve having to check that your car is still where you left it, or having to pay 7+ dollars for private parking, such as the Downtown LA Arts District in Chinatown or Little Tokyo. However, if you happen to be in the area, or if one of your favorite artists is showcasing his/ her art here, I think it's a decent way to spend a Friday or Saturday night. They usually ask for a "donation" at the door, though, so bring cash. Because when I say "ask," I mean they practically demand it.

By far the best art gallery in the. Country hands down! On opening nights its always packed to the bone and be prepared to pay 5$ donation at the front desk. But its free all other days and nights. It's a sensory overload of magical artistry that can only be described as a metamorphose of good and evil art mixed with color, light, and amazing imagery. The art work is for a better word incredible. I can't believe the amount of tallent that lives in Los Angeles. If you go on opening night you'll get to talk and meet the artist which, is always a treat. They're such a diverse collection of amazing people young, old, men, women, weird, corky, strange, and artistic its like being in a bowl of colorful lucky charms! From outside it looks small but it gos another 300 feet back. There's other art booths in the back where the artist are selling art, creating it as well, and selling prints its so awesome. They also have a DJ and small bar in the back. The owner is a cool guy named Nathan Cartwright and he's the best. One can see why people are drawn to this place an its because of him. His passion and love for the art, Gallery scene, and his fellow Artist separate Nathan from all! An artist himself you cannot miss him as he wears a bright yellow jacket with a black top hat and cane. Ja ja he looks amazing and that's why he is the KING BEE Recommend this ace to everyone. Parking next door in a huge parking structure! 6$ all night.

You know, I did feel kind of like a bee, dancing around this place from painting to sculpture to drawing to people. This gallery instantly became one of my favorites during my LA Art Walk exploration. I came at a reasonable time with friends and it was not as crowded, which made it easy to get around. I think the rain had something to do with people coming out later. Anyway, I really loved the set up for this gallery. I thought it was going to be super small but it kept going and going and going. Infinite corridor much? (Cue Twilight Zone intro) The art here was very eclectic, it ranged from paintings, to drawings, to photography, to sculpture, to just about everything. I would say some was better than the others and one in particular really caught my eye: http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/the-hive-gallery-los-angeles?select=fmm4JHq_I5H58uH4WUMOmQ#O70BpS-LELvDfw39bg774g. Not sure why, but I think it was the style, texture, content, and colors used that pulled me in. If I had the money, I would have totally purchased this, I really loved it. Unfortunately, I don't recall the artist's name. There were three paintings from this artist with similar style. I also really liked this other artist, who had a number of big and small pieces: http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/the-hive-gallery-los-angeles?select=fmm4JHq_I5H58uH4WUMOmQ#1fMRisgd69zYlwYrV0Jx1A. I found the content and style comical but enjoyable. I really like the line work and graphic elements. Again, very affordable prices. Overall, the gallery had amazing artists and the cost of most of the pieces were very reasonable and affordable for the art-lover. I can't wait to come back again and see what else is new. I shall bring my check book next time!

So lucky to have got to experience all this wonderful art!!

I loved this gallery. We were lucky enough to catch the exhibit from famous animators. Everything was like candy to the eye. The people running the gallery were so friendly and nonintrusive. This will be a must check out every time we come to LA since their art rotates out every month. Be careful about parking across the street. Between 4 and 6 PM they will tow your car. We came out at 4:04 PM and our car was towed. It cost $400 to get it out. There are no signs showing this so be careful.

Great art gallery! I actually came here during the last artwalk and I had never noticed this place before. They are like a trade show of art galleries. There ware mini galleries within the main room. Each different from the other and with high quality art, which was very creative and mind challenging. They have a stage in the second room along with a round sofa. We stayed and listened to the speaker rant some crazy nonsense which was entertaining. As you move to the back, you will feel this building either narrows or becomes more crowded and extremely hot. Check it out for the next artwalk. They also send out emails about their events and such.

This is my favorite gallery and is usually my final stop during the downtown la art walks. visual and auditory stimulation overload. okay... maybe that's an exaggeration, but I love this place. why? small.. giving a perception of intimacy...but a lot to see. the performance thing going on in the middle. sometimes it's spoken words, sometimes a band. art in motion. as movement... as sound. ah.. failure of the signifier. no words to describe. just fucking check it out!

I don't frequent the art gallery scene, which is ironic since I'm an artist myself, but that might change after seeing this gallery. They have some really great and beautiful pieces by some very talented artists, all of which are up for sale. I ended up taking home one of my favorites from the Super Emo Friends series by J Salvador. The management was super friendly. All of the artists that stop by are more than happy to talk your ears off about their work. And they even host monthly events for you to view and create your own art. The whole experience was really cool and inspiring and I'd love to come back in the future to see all the new work they bring in.

Considering it's permanently on the wall, think safe assumption, the woman behind desk would know the history of the painting. She said she didn't. And not in an I just work here kind of way but in a snobby tone. We got the impression she judged a book by its cover...like I said we were in gym clothes. And my recent trip to the Downtown LA Art Walk was exactly that a collection of techniques, practices, talents, mediums, and modes of communication that came together and landed to create an amorphous experience that was shaped, like clay, to create visual and sensory craftwork. There were different galleries offering different works. I will begin this review by naming some of my favorite. There was this gallery showing photography that was enhanced, played, or showcased light and that is where I found the dinosaurs of Cabezon come to life by the angles of a camera. I clipped the picture of the drawing (art inception) and it shows a long neck dinosaur that I want to call a jirrafasuaraus but I know that is wrong, walking toward a twilight colored horizon-- where the low of the sky was orange, layered above by a lemon-yellow strip of sky, then followed a soften almost transparent orange, with the rest of the sky being a early evening blue. I could not tell that the picture was fake. I do not want to say that I thought that Jurrasic Park was real, but, the picture did make me feel that the dessert has seen dinosaurs walking toward lovely sunsets. Another favorite was a negative of a picture of what looked like a swan floating in water that was completely black, like a swan swimming on black construction paper. But the only visible parts of the swan was is feathered body, its long neck, and regal tail. I could not see its eyes, I could not see its beak, I could not see its crest up high. The swan was averting the lens of the camera and yet the beauty of the swan was evident because its pure white ruffles were silent against a black backdrop. I could continue naming the pieces I like and why, but then the artwalk would becoming an art viewing. So I will conclude that I also saw a woman wearing a ruffled vest that dragged to the floor. It was inconvenient and kind of bulky, and maybe drag dirt along the train, but this was also art. I point that out because the show attracted people with style, and style on a body, is art, as everyone knows. There was also an apartment building that opens its doors. It offered a fondue fountain, chocolate, pool table, blackjack, and a giant arcade machine where one could play spade invader or pac-man. So the engagement level of Art Walk expanded to art one could make on the spot. And if you wonder how one makes art at a pool table--- then I suggest seeing a video of a player using a stick to make a ball jump to avoid one ball and hit the other. The movement is a type of ballet jump (a piroutte) that is prompted by a stick propulsion. If that is not artistic expression, then, a person living in a glass box suspended in air above the ground isn't either. As I walked the streets of LA, I also saw a truck that had four spotlights. I have always seen events that are signaled out by spotlights but now I know that these spotlights are ambulatory, and kind of, yes, art in their own way. They rose lights to the buildings side and to the night sky. The movement was a type of dance light, and I defy anyone to prove me wrong because at its core, art can never be truly define by words because, on its own, its a visual language.
