Anyhow, shout-out to the person helping us out today -- we didn't catch her name, but she was talking to my mans about Sedona and how she just came back from her second job. We stan a #girlboss, wooooooo!!!! But, we also stan taking time for yourself and not overworking or burning out for capitalism. She recommended the vegan curry pie and the green hog and MMMMMF they hit the spot. I had to run back and let 'em know that they were the best pies ever!! We ate them so quickly that they didn't last 5 minutes in the car heheh. i actually went to visit the ice cream shop (stella jean's) next door and found out the two shops were connected! i love the quiet and clean space + the worker there was so nice and inviting -- she was very enthusiastic and patient (since i had been standing around with my ice cream but eyeing the pies). i eventually got a slice of key lime pie and coconut cream to-go. the key lime is for a friend so i won't be including it in my review but the coconut i did try. the coconut cream pie was good and i could definitely taste the rich buttery flakiness of the crust but i would say it overpowered the coconut part itself. yes, there were really soft coconut shavings and i enjoyed the fact that they used real coconut but there wasn't much flavor to it. it wasn't too sweet which i like but there also was very little flavor in general. maybe i'll try it again next time for a more accurate review since i did have very sweet ice cream prior and that may have messed up my tastebuds. the presentation is also nice and i think that $7 is a bit on the pricey side considering it isn't a big slice but they do clearly use good ingredients and are generous with the coconut (the crust is not too thin and not too thick!) read more

We were at the beach enjoying a very warm SoCal winter's day when husband looked up some places to grab something to eat on the way home. He said there's a new pie place in town and when I looked to see where, I realized they had replaced the previous pie place in the same location. They are located to the left of Sidecar Donuts. I guess on the other side is an ice cream place that replaced the meat place, which is kind of sad. Since I had not been in the area for a while due to covid, I didn't realize they had shut down. What a bummer. Well, it looked like Pop Pie had even more offerings, from savory to sweet to even espresso drinks - all my favorite things in a one-stop-shop, so we had to go. We drove up on a Sunday afternoon around 2 and there was only one person in front of me. They keep their door open, which is nice for airflow these days and I waited right outside the door as it's not a big space. The pies are all displayed behind a glass case on the left and the savory in a refrigerated space on the right. I ordered a chicken pot pie (their signature) $9, a steak and ale $10, a slice of key lime pie for dessert $6.50 and a new orleans ice coffee for $5.50. As you can see, the prices are not cheap, but I like supporting small businesses and when I got home, I realized there was definitely quality behind the product. I didn't even get a bite of the chicken because the husband and toddler shared that one and didn't feel the need to leave any for me (ha), but they said it was good and chock full of chicken. I believe them because I had the steak one and there were tons of pieces of beef in there. I mean it was probably 6 oz of beef? At least. It was chock full of flavor without being overly salty, which some places equate to flavor (it does not). The crust is so thick and flaky, there was definitely not a soggy bottom on these things. They are pretty much ready to eat when you get home because they are kept warm in the display, so when you dig in (we are about 25 min away), they were still hot. I ate half and had to run an errand, so I put it in the fridge and came home to reheat the other half at 350 for about 10 minutes and it was still perfect. The key lime was delicious and kept well until the next day. The crust was thick and I would have preferred a little bit more filling to the crust, but it was key limey deliciousness. And the coffee was great. I asked them not to make mine too milky (just not a dairy person), and they accommodated. They also have milk alternatives for $1, which to me is a little outrageous, but I guess the price of nuts has gone up due to the demand. All in all, I won't be able to go as frequently as I'd like due to the cost and a limited budget, but it does make for a nice treat once in a while and the food is quality. I love a savory pie and I've searched far and wide for good, comforting, buttery, flakey, pie. While on my quest for pie, I've often found myself at various Irish pubs, studying their menus eagerly to find a shepherds pie or steak&ale pie. Some were moderately successful jaunts, while others ended in disappointment, and further resolve to find my elusive pie. Well, enter the Pop Pie Co. I had already studied the menu ahead of time so I was prepared. They don't have a shepherd's pie but they do have a steak & ale pie, so that was an easy pick. However, the Aussie piqued my interest. Unlike the steak & ale pie, the Aussie used ground beef and tomatoes and onions. I was sold. I picked these two but since the husband and I were hungry, our eyes deceived us and believed falsely that two small pies would not make a dent to our appetite. Hence, I also ordered their classic chicken pot pie. I rushed back home, lest the pie go cold on me. I was pleased that despite the 30 minute drive, the pies were still piping hot on the inside. I was mind blown just by that. Next, came the real test - the taste test. I dove into the Aussie and my husband dug into the steak & ale. It was a winner ! Perfectly cooked, and perfectly savory, with a good balance of meat to pastry to veggies. The little pies also filled us up nicely, so while we didn't need the chicken pot pie, I'm glad I bought it so I could get a taste of that as well. The name is fitting. It is a classic. All three of the pies were excellent. Since I love red meat, I would rank the Aussie just over the steak & ale, and then the chicken pot pie. We pre-ordered a pecan bourbon pie for pickup on Thanksgiving day. When we called the day before they'd said there was only one line (for both pre-orders and day-of orders) that had been around the building that morning. Since we wanted to pick the pie up that morning, we arrived 20 minutes before they opened at 9am and saw a line around the building of ~20 people (all socially distanced and wearing masks). Thankfully they had improved their pickup system since the day before - before their opening time a staff member called for all preorders to get their pies and we barely had to wait at all! I hope they have this planned out and announced ahead of time in the future to help reduce the number of people in line. Everyone liked the pecan bourbon - there was a mild but not super pronounced bourbon flavor, and it was sweet without being sickly sweet. stopped by pop pie because were were at side car, and it is their next door neighbor. the hubs got the steak & ale and i tried the classic chicken. classic chicken is definitely the winner here. the steak and ale has a really strong ale note - if thats your jam, go for it. we also bought a guava cream cheese which was majorly disappointing - stick to portos if thats what you're craving. they also sell day old pies and some that are frozen that you can pop in the oven at home. was definitely tempted to get some but wasn't sure how long it would take to get home. parking is easy breezy and staff is super nice. read more

I wasn't as fond of the Hog one (which was recommended by a staff) as it had a sour taste - too hearty for me as well. I took a couple of bites and mentioned to the other staff who ignored my comment so I ended up bringing it home and throwing it away. I now see a couple of other reviews felt the same. Someone who liked it said it's like a salsa verde flavor ...yes; like pickled jalapeños hence the sourness). I learned you can: 1) buy hot and ready $10-10.50, 2) pre-baked and frozen (go home and bake for 40 min) for $1 less ($9-9.50), or 3) ready made day old left overs refrigerated which takes less time to heat up for $5 (wish they had told me this before I bought the hot and ready) which they said lasts a week. Exceeded expectations in every way. Pie is difficult to do really well, and Pop Pie manages to expertly execute a wide variety. Hand pies, pot pies, cream pies, fruit pies-this place does it all. I was pleasantly surprised to find a vegan option in every category. Their recipes are globally inspired, featuring a signature crust formulated by Thai head chef Gan Suebsarakham. They are currently open for takeout and delivery during the Covid-19 pandemic. Our delivery order arrived quickly, and everything tasted fresh out of the oven. I was stunned by the Roasted Veggies & Yellow Curry pie, which is large and satisfying enough to be a well rounded meal on its own. The crust was flaky, buttery, (and somehow vegan) perfection, filled with richly spiced, authentic Thai yellow curry, with lots of vegetables. The Mushroom & Leek Quiche featured meaty oyster mushrooms and savory sundried tomatoes cradled within the fluffy, egg and creme fraiche filling. The sweet pies were equally impressive. The Guava Cream Cheese Hand Pie's all-butter crust was encrusted in turbinado sugar, enrobing velvety guava jam and ample cream cheese. The Strawberry Rhubarb Crumble (which, again, is somehow vegan) blew us away with its sweet ripe fruit filling and well spiced oat crust. My only critique is the regarding the limited sides-they currently only offer three options. However, I was grateful for the tasty kale salad that made me feel slightly less guilty for eating so much pie, and the over the top decadent Mashed Potatoes. Highly recommended. read more

Between the crust and the filling, still can't decide which was better, they were both phenomenal. You can tell these pot pies are handmade. Let's start with the crust. It is so flavorful and battery. It literally melts in your mouth. I could just eat it by itself without the filling. The feeling is amazing. There are huge chunks of tender chicken and the chicken pot pie, and the steak ale filling, the pieces of steak are so tender. Both fillings have so much depth of flavor as well. I was so pleased to find out that you could purchase the pot pies frozen and bake them on your own at home. Next time I go there, I will be buying at least a half a dozen of each flavor (frozen) read more
