The owner used literal Marxism to justify her Soviet quality service. It's an outrageous claim, but it's true. Here is the backstory. My spouse has purchased Pop-Ins Maid Service's Deluxe Cleaning several times before. Each time, two maids came with all equipment necessary to complete the job. Pop-Ins had somehow lost all records of my spouse's previous cleanings, so they made a new account. A Deluxe Cleaning was scheduled over the phone for Monday at 11:00am. Two days later, via text, it was delayed to 1pm. Less than two hours before the appointment, Pop-Ins canceled and said they would reschedule. We did not hear from Pop-Ins until the next day at 10:40am. They scheduled it just after 11am - around 30 minutes notice. 11am came and went... My spouse called their office and was finally notified they were delayed again, this time to 3pm. 3pm passed... Again, we had to call them to find out the service had been delayed... It was now to be just after 3:40pm. A single maid finally arrived at 4:07pm. The maid did not have a broom or any means of reaching the top of mirrors. In previous cleanings, they showed up on time, offered to do bed sheets, cleaned under most furniture, took out trash, replaced trash bags, cleaned bathroom shelves, fully cleaned mirrors, and provided an itemized receipt. This time, none of these were completed. The maid also wasn't able to leave until 7:25pm. My spouse has anxiety, so she asked me to call Pop-Ins on her behalf the next day. I did. Whoever answered said Stephanie, the owner, rarely comes to the office, so I would have to keep calling until I got lucky. I requested to leave a message. They reluctantly agreed. I had not received a call by 10am Thursday, so I called again. Stephanie had just arrived and hadn't received my message, so I explained the situation. She insisted Pop-Ins never did several of the tasks mentioned above. I realized she does not know what services Pop-Ins once provided. Their former employees discovered customers do not tolerate Pop-ins services per management's specifications, so they innovated. Next, Stephanie blamed employees - employees in general - for her company's failures. She said it is employees' fault that so few of them are willing to work for her. It dawned on me that our recent maid was new and trained by management. She should've been trained by experienced maids who actually understand consumer demand. I suggested Stephanie do better at competing for labor by paying employees more. To my astonishment, she said she can't because she would be forced to pass the increased operating expenses onto her customers! She went so far as to blame "selfish employees" for inflation! This is amazing for several reasons. Can she not "tighten her belt" and reinvest more profits? Is she not motivated by self-interest like those she blames? Aren't her services already priced so high she expects going any higher would result in lost sales offsetting the higher margins? Can't she take a risk (like the women she sends into men's homes alone) and get financing for a better business model? Can't she innovate like her former employees? Is she already working as hard and long as possible? Even more astonishing, her argument was straight from the essay "The Political Aspects of Full Employment" by Michal Kalecki, a MARXIST economist! The notion that bargaining power determines wages is a central tenet of modern Marxism. Kalecki argues employers can respond to generally increasing employee leverage by simply raising prices because they know their "competitors" actually want to limit competition, so they can trust each other to intuitively coordinate prices. This argument locates the problem in the employer-employee relationship. Anyone who uses Kalecki's theory to condemn employees is either a fool or taking you for a fool. Stephanie has an MBA. She is no fool. I was beyond insulted by Stephanie's extreme bad faith, hubris, and contempt for both customers and employees. On the call, she became increasingly aggressive. She repeatedly insisted on calling my spouse despite my insistence it would be unwelcome. Eventually, she let slip they were unable to process our payment. I considered this an acceptable outcome, so I ended the call. I rang my spouse a few minutes later, who brought me into an ongoing call with Stephanie. I told Stephanie it wasn't appropriate to call her. She responded with intense hostility and said only my spouse is her customer, so she won't respect my requests. She tried to lead the conversation and pressure my spouse to prove she's a long term customer. I frustrated these attempts, and she got so angry she hung up on us. Don't use Pop-Ins. You'll regret it. It is run by a petty tyrant - spoiled by years of unchallenged bargaining power and access to desperate people. She acts entitled to both employees and customers. She's like a queen who knows no citizens, only subjects, and her business is her kingdom. read more

Very very overpriced. Spent $240 for a "deluxe" cleaning today that was no better than what my previous maid did every other week for $75. Had this been $80, it would have been worth it, but I expected it would be spotless for $240. One of the services they were supposed to do was wash the cabinet, I didn't see evidence that this was done. Had them out a second time. This time the maintenance service was $155. The cleaning itself was fine, and they were supposed to clean the cabinets that I didn't think was done the first time. I still didn't see a difference. Maybe their definition of washing the cabinets is different than mine? So... If you aren't looking for a regular service this might be worth a one or two time use. I just can't justify spending $300+ a month. 4 star cleaning, 1 star price. read more

Terrible customer service, had previously used this company at my prior home. I called them to come do a cleaning on my current residence and they never showed up. I called them numerous times and got the runaround. I finally got upset with them, and they just flat out stood me up without even telling me they weren't going to come. They over book their employees to where they can't stay on a schedule, and they have terrible customer service and will not take ownership of their poor management. I've recommended this company to so many people, but I won't make that mistake again. I'm really impressed with Alma and Norma. Today was my first day to use Pop-ins. Lauren at the office has also been very nice and helpful. There was an issue getting in my house last week (my fault) but they were kind enough to reschedule. I'm a perfectionist and they cleaned things I wasn't even expecting of them. The lady that answers the phone is prompt & professional. They could tell me how much my price was going to be based on 3 things (square footage, special needs flooring such as tile or wood, & amount/kind of pets) instead of having to come for quote. They gave a reminder call the day before & a call on their way out the same day. I had a "window" of 1-4pm when they would come, & two women were here right after 1pm. They left by 3pm & the house was sparkling. I had "picked up" everything that morning, so all they had to do was clean. Of course they dusted, mopped, vacuumed, but I did notice some better than average cleaning- the dining room table was moved- a testament that they had really cleaned under it, the kitty litter box had totally been removed & cleaned around & put back, every item on my dresser was removed & dusted & returned (I usually just dust around items). Beds were made with clean sheets, trash cans emptied. The only down side (& it is QUITE minor), is that the toothbrush holders were not cleaned & I had to put replacement trash bags in all the trash cans. (it would be GREAT if you could tell them where the liners were & they'd do it. I'll ask for that next time.) Nothing was broken or stolen. (Not that I'd expect that, but I assume one of the reasons people are looking at maid reviews is to see if they can trust a maid.). I felt comfortable having them in as their website says bonded & insured. My cost was $100 for 2,000 sq ft. 1 cat, 1 dog, no special needs flooring. I was debating giving 4 stars because they didn't replace trash liners, sweep front outside entry or clean toothbrush holders, but I won't dock them a star, because I figure next time I can just ask for those things. They are maids, not mind readers. :) They did excellent considering it was first time with no requests from me. read more

I called Pop Ins to schedule a cleaning. The lady on the phone seemed friendly, answering all my questions. She said she would email me a quote directly after getting off the phone with me. She never sent anything. I called back later to make sure they received my key, and asked again for the email. Again, it was never sent (seemed unprofessional). Pop Ins came by my house. I now know why they are called Pop Ins. They literally pop in and do nothing. It is unfortunate I cannot share pictures on Yelp, if I could, I would. There were cobwebs and dust, various things on the floor. They were supposed to vacuum, dust, and clean bathrooms. They did nothing whatsoever besides leave an itemized bill for me. The smell of cleaners was non existent. Feeling lied to, cheated, and betrayed, we call Pop Ins and leave a voice mail asking why nothing was done. The owner calls back and asks if they can come back and clean again (they never cleaned to begin with). I let them know I would not trust them to do anything. There was a lack of apology or seriousness in her tone. I feel almost as if this is my own fault, as I then looked up Pop Ins reviews online and saw many have complained prior via Google. Just do a search for their name and you will see. Save your money and time, do NOT use this "cleaning company" that does nothing. Very deceitful. I was not charged after I let them know I was not paying for someone to come by and drop off an itemized bill. read more

Save yourself the trouble and hire a different company. After 5 years of having this company clean my house....today I called to see why they hadn't showed up yet (11-2 arrival time). I was told they wouldn't be able to clean my house today. I don;t understand since I've had them on a schedule for 5 years. I was given several excuses none that made any sense in regard to why they simply couldn't clean my house on the scheduled day. They did offer to send someone on Saturday. Really? When I read reviews I try to take them with a grain of salt because everybody has different opinions and expectations. I will say I was very happy with my cleaning services until a few weeks ago. Pop Ins called to confirm my appointment and told me the key to my home has been lost. The office manager told me she would look for the key and call me the next day. She never did, and I had to call her several times to get an update. She told me on a Friday afternoon that she would search the office over the weekend and get back with me the following Monday morning. Again, NO phone call. We trusted Pop Ins with the key to our home, and I am very displeased with lack of communication from them. I e-mailed the owner twice, and the office manager received the e-mails. The office manager finally replied that they were short staffed and she said she would speak with the owner about this situation, and guess what.....NO phone call. So very disappointing. read more

Still no reply from owner, (Stephanie Zajac). 8/27/19 - Cleaners late again. Our appointment is the first of the day, (9:00 am). I called the office at 9:20, they said cleaners were four minutes away. When they arrived, they were the same two cleaners I said I did not want returning to our home. I called and spoke to office manager, (Lauren), she said the person she was replacing these two with was off today. So, she sent these two. When I asked Lauren why she did not call me to let me know, she said "sorry". 8/6/19 - The reason these two ladies were not supposed to return to our home, They lied to the office and to me on 8-6. Apt. was 9 am, I called office at 9:20, Lauren said one of the ladies called the office, she had a headache, but was now on the way. They arrived after noon. I spoke with the office many times this morning. I requested a call from the owner, (Stephanie Zajac), she never called. I was eventually told one of the cleaners had a Doctors appointment they did not tell the office about. These ladies have cleaned our home many times, arriving late every single time. VERY PLEASED I have used Pop-ins on various occasions. I do not use a regular housekeeper, but I call them when I need extra help. I have always been pleased with the service. Of course some of the cleaners are more efficient than others, but for the price and the job done they are by and large excellent! I usually do the 2 1/2 hour special. They bring their own supplies, which I prefer. I find their prices competitive with the few individual house keepers I have used, when you compare the work done and the fact that I do not have to provide cleaning products. But Pop-Ins work fast and get a lot done in a shorter length of time than the individuals I have tried. I highly recommend these folks. read more

Pop In Maid came out this morning to clean our house and I was really impressed. They sent two women-Antonia and Maria--and they did a fantastic job. I don't often have the house professionally cleaned, but I used someone a couple of years ago and they charged $300 for our apprx. 1700 square foot home. Pop up Maid was only $120 and I felt the level of cleaning was just as good. I really like how they have the option to pay via credit card, but I'd love a way to book it online, if possible, in the future. Right now you give your credit card number over the phone. Overall, really pleased and hope to use them again in the future and will certainly recommend them to others! read more

I have used Pop In Maids for over 10 years. I moved 3 miles away to a bigger home (which is more expensive to clean) and the ladies now won't "drive that far". It is THREE MILES away from the other home. I would not recommend this service, stay far away. They don't want your business and they don't pay their people enough to drive 3 extra miles. read more

Just completed a review for Angie's List... We had used another maid service, but wanted to give them a try as they are close to our home. The ladies were on time and pleasant, and the quality of the clean was fair. Concerns regarding the cleaning included leftover dirty spots on floors, sinks, and shower. The bigger concern was that they left the furniture, blinds, rugs, and multiple other items in complete disarray... there appeared to be NO attempt to return things to their original positions. Not asking for perfection, but at least try... they apparently did not. The entire experience was only fair, but the quality was really not worth the cost. We have been a customer with Pop-Ins for 2 years but their service level has deteriorated over the last 6 months to the point where we fired them. When we first used them, their service was great and the house was clean. For the past 6 months, we have had problems with new teams coming over (didn't know how we liked things cleaned), not cleaning certain areas like the microwave, using a broken vaccuum cleaner (so we than had them use ours), had a few items magically broken afthe they left, to finally - they broke my kitchen faucet and on the way out said "whoops we broke it". After having a few conversations with their manager of Pop-Ins they gave us no restitution for the repair of the faucet saying that we don't know who broke it. You will be disappointed with them over the long-run. read more

NEVER AGAIN!! I was so disgusted with this service, I won't even bother to call them to have them "re-do" it. I Should have known better than to use a little known company as opposed to a bigger reputable one but I had a coupon and I thought, how much different could it be? Well let me tell you. For a 2,800 sf house it was $138.00. You would expect a pretty good cleaning for this amount but...they rushed through this house so quickly, they were done in 1 hour and 55 minutes. There were still crumbs on my kitchen counter, they didn't wipe off the toaster, the front of the stove, or any of the cabinets. They didn't vacuum very well either. They didn't even bother to vacuum up my dogs food crumbs that were on the floor. I have two very distinct (even labeled) garbage cans. One for trash, one for recycling. They ended up combining them both and set them in my garage about 10 feet away from the garbage and recycling bins. On top of it all, they didn't even replace the bags in any of the trash cans. It doesn't stop there. They used furniture spray and over sprayed onto my leather sofa and didn't bother to wipe it off. They used stainless steel cleaner on my fridge but just did the first step of wiping it on. They didn't bother to buff it dry so I was left with a fridge covered in slimy wet cleaner. All of this is a review of my main level only; I didn't even bother to go over the upstairs. I will never use this company again. read more
