I shall call this review #CarJealousy…read more Riding in through the large golf course, I can see the rolling hills and sand pits plotted out carefully for eager golfers, who I'm sure hang their heads outside their window like a panting dog as the make their way to the parking lot. A parking lot filled with every car I want. Mercedes SL (insert number) Acura (Insert model) Lexus IS blah blah And there was a bunch of Infinitis... which they can keep. I don't like Infinitis. I think the shape of them is odd and... ugly. Anyways, I was there for a fundraiser so I set up my table and began to do my thing... after my thing was done, I got a little of the County Club treatment as I sat down to lunch in the club room and dined on some of the club kwizine. That's the fancy french way to spell it right? A fresh salad lightly dressed with a balsamic vinaigrette. Full of ridiculously fresh lettuces. It was all the salad truly needed ( and had) cause the lettuce was so freakin' good. I could definitely detect some little gem and butter lettuce in the mix. There was a choice of hamburger or chicken. The chicken was in a light broth of old bay, bbq sauce, and something else which is escaping me. The chef behind the table cut the little knobby bone ( the bone that connects the breast with the wing) off of the breast after I picked it from the chafing dish... begging the question... why did they leave that on? But I think it oddly made some sort of weird difference. Well, whatever they did, the chicken was super tender and flavorful and the buns they had were crucially delicious. It was a spectacularly simple and delicious meal. I loved it. Everyone at the country club was extremely pleasant and attentive. Servers made sure that I had enough to drink and cleared my plate away quickly. The worst part of my experience was leaving the country club, as I know that I am very unlikely to back anytime soon. Maybe when my magnetic car invention gets off the ground.

We tried many wines, including: -the Crossvines Cabernet Franc-raisin and almost Nebbiolo overtones; -the Crossvines Barn Door red blend-balanced and warm with a hint of spice yet low tannin; -the Fairway rosé, which was light with great flavor and perfect with spring foods; -and the Riesling and then house ciders, with cherry and peach popular with different people. We settled on a bottle of the White Blend, the "Front Porch". It was not groundbreaking yet likable worked as a clean canvas that went with a lot of foods, not oaky, tangy, sweet, or dry. I enjoyed the butternut squash soup. I watched my friend enjoying the Farmer's Market salad and wondered if I should have gotten that instead! My friend enjoyed her burger and fries. The burger was pretty big and looked satisfying. My friend said the crab dip was really good, too. The best part for me was trying their wines while engaging with our server and the general manager. We talked about some of the events like wine tasting and menu changes and line dancing. We saw more of the gorgeous venue and bookable space for 300 indoors. It was relaxing and enjoyable and while I couldn't eat many items due to a wheat allergy, I definitely wanted to return soon and enjoy the backdrop and support a local winery.

The Norman course just doesn't do it for me anymore. Flat and in the low lying area of the property so the conditions can be dicey at times. Fun the first coupe of times but after a while most of the holes start looking like each other. It has either OB or hazards on either side of narrow fairways. They also narrow in where your drive goes on the majority of the par 4s. Very tough if you aren't hitting the ball well off the tee. Around the greens are bunkers or some Pete Dye like shaved areas. I'm sure this place is great if you stay here or are a member, but they don't treat tournament rounds very well. On this particular day, the greens on the RTJ 2 course were perfect and I was excited to play there. But there was a "scheduling mishap," so we were switched to the Norman course last minute. First off, I almost dropped out because I'm not a fan on the Norman course. What was truly disappointing was they just aerated and sanded the greens days before, and they did the tee boxes the week before. Greens were terrible. Not sure why Lansdowne would schedule 100 or so golfers on a course that looks like that. Fairways were also bad in spots but that's acceptable considering the weather we've had this year. Only fairway that was in terrible shape (crabgrass) was the par 5 on the far end of the course. Let's just say it wasn't worth the entry fee or the drive. I've been here a bunch of times and the customer service is very visible but not always very welcoming. It just gets worse every year. The pro shop is very well stocked but overpriced. The range is great but it's a struggle to find golf balls to hit. They have three putting greens, just don't use the one right next to the upper level of the range. It's a great property and I want to like it as I used to. But it's not a place I'd go out of my way to visit anymore.

Not simply because he was running late, but because the house (castle/waiting room/party room) was absolutely filthy. I was really taken aback by a business looking like this, even if it's a business that works w/ animals. When we got there, the owner and assistant were on a ride w/ another group. Then the group we were supposed to be riding with were an hour late, so we had to wait for them. It was just annoying, although Steven (owner) was friendly. When we walked into the empty house it looked like a construction space, a hen was walking around the inside and I even saw it poop IN THE KITCHEN! Things finally turned around when I hopped on Sherman (my white horse w/ black spots). He was a greedy little thing and ate up all the grass but he was a great horse. Steven immediately put ppl on the horses and taught us while we were riding. He was a straight to it teacher and I liked that. He definitely knows what he's doing when it comes to animals. He took a bunch of pictures and videos and sent them to everyone in the group. I'm thankful to have such awesome pictures that didn't cost us extra. I'm giving 4 stars despite the filth because Steven was friendly, welcoming, and I enjoyed the experience. Tip: -don't eat there if germs bug u -don't arrive early, there's no point -yes, you're in the right spot, even though it looks a little funky on the outside

He also never redeemed our Groupon. He has repeatedly messaged me and begged me to remove this review and has even reported it to Yelp to try to get it removed. Not only do I stand by my review but this Steven Strasburg owner has proved himself to not only be completely unprofessional but also desperate and dishonest. My advice: TAKE SOME RESPONSIBILITY for your business instead of accusing people of posting fake reviews or saying "it must've been another place". This is the ONLY time where an owner has not only not apologized but tried to say I'm posting for the wrong Castle Strasburg. How many Castle Strasburg horseriding places are there in Midland, VA? SHAME ON YOU!
