Pool Concepts was our first ever experience for a major home improvement. The design and sales processes were smooth, and it was easy to connect with their team members. The Superintendent assigned to our project, Alma, was great: responsive, professional, always available and on top of her game making sure all the contractors performed their jobs as expected. Like what has happened across industries there were delays, days and sometimes weeks of no work due to weather and other non-controllable issues but as I said before, communication was always open, and we knew what to expect given the current circumstances and challenges. The pool ended up looking pretty good. The sales people were very helpful when we selected our options. The company has been around for a long time. However, they used contractors that had only done 2 or 3 jobs. Ever. Because of this the bottom of our pool had streaks. When we asked them to fix it, they poured a bunch of acid in the pool to try and even it out. This loosened a bunch of the pebbles which then gummed up our filter and pipes. When we asked them to come take a look at it they had the nerve to say it was our fault for not cleaning the filter. This all happened within the first 2 months. I was surprised to think that we should have been deep cleaning our filter after only 2 months. After we cleaned the filter and got everything running the water was continuously green. Again, they said it was our fault. However, when they came to look at it there was significant damage to the pump and filter due to the large amounts of pebbles that had run through the filter so nothing was working correctly. We opted for the chiller with our heat pump. That never worked and to this day still has not worked. Again, we were told it was our fault for not programming it correctly. WHAT? There are so many more things that I want to say about our interaction with them, but it is making me frustrated to even think about it again. I do not recommend going with this company. I really do hope people read this before making a decision to go with them. read more

So I would love to give 5 stars but unfortunately I have been building my pool for the last 6 months and we have been sitting at gunite since February. I was initially scared to leave a review since my pool is not completed but I'm frustrated due to the lack of communication with the superintendent Joe. The building process has been great up until now. The plans were done perfectly but here we sit waiting! I was told it would be done by April, then May and here is June! Crazy thing is we started this process in December! I know we have had tons of rain and even snow but it is super frustrating when the subs only come out for half days! I'm really just over it at this point! I'm just over being disappointed every time they say it will be done and no work is completed. read more

Wanted to give them an opportunity but... With a six figure budget, we contacted PC in early July to start the process for a design and quote. We were told they were very behind due to covid which we understood as we were in no rush. We had already met with 2 other companies prior to PC and were expecting delays due to increase le demand. Jason came out end of July, spoke with us, took measurements and asked questions to better understand our wants - which was great! He told us he was very behind with designs, pulled out folders from his briefcase and said there were about 10 designs ahead of us but it would be about 3 weeks before he could get us a quote. These were his words, not ours. We told him we were ready to pull the trigger but understood and were patient. Fast forward 3 weeks. I emailed for an update and no response. I called the office a week later asking for an update and the lady I spoke with apologized immediately and said she'd text him to reach out to us ASAP. Fast forward ANOTHER 2 weeks and nothing. I did say we were patient and in no rush, right? Keep in mind by this time we've already received 2 other quotes but are at a standstill waiting on PC to make a final decision. I called again today, spoke with the same lady who apologized (again). She said she was going to call him right away and would call me back with an update. Not even two minutes later she calls me back and says Jason is sorry but he says our design won't be ready until sometime in October. OCTOBER!!! He had not even started working on a design. It sure would have been nice to have an honest and realistic expectation up front. It would have been nice for him to just respond! I mentioned if they are this behind I can't imagine how behind they are with starting the pool build. Especially when he told us at the house that though they were behind with designs they could start the work ASAP once we signed a contract. She then mentioned they cannot control their subs and as a matter of fact, some of their subs took a break to go to Mexico to visit with their family. I appreciate the honesty but not what I expected to hear. And the fact that he was evasive and blew us off is extremely disappointing. We also told them PC was recommended by a few neighbors. He didn't even try. That's what's upsetting. If things are this bad on the outside I can't imagine the kind of work being done. Maybe a blessing in disguise? read more

What a horrible experience! We were able to pick all of our material with the exception of the flagstone. The flagstone immediately started to chip and they advised us not to seal it. However, every time it rained, it chipped. The chips fell into the pool and stained it. They did not make it right and just outright refused to do so. Pool school was a complete joke. They gave us 20 minutes of school to try and educate us on everything for maintenance. Then they offer one of their guys to maintain it for a hefty price. I would never recommend this company as their workmanship, material and customer service were a complete joke! After seeking other pool companies for consulting, they were amazed at the flagstone that Pool Concepts was using and advised that it was not the correct type. read more

Pool Concepts impressed me because at that time, March 2020, they were only taking word of mouth referrals. The swimming pool looks great as a final product. The pool cleaning equipment they provided was great. I liked the staff and especially Hadi, he made me laugh! The pool project took from November to March. Any issue i had was addressed. The company was dealing with a surge in pool builds, contractors dealing with cover-19, and limited materials do to supply chain impacts. Pool Concepts had the best design, most competitive pricing and an outstanding construction crew that was responsive throughout the entire process. George is an incredible designer that masterfully solved some significant elevation challenges we had and Dre the construction site lead was always on top of it, responded immediately to questions and always followed up. After 2 months of using the pool I have to say from design to construction to using it, everything went flawless. First of all, let me say that our experience with Pool Concepts was absolutely fantastic! We did a lot of research on pool companies before we got started and ultimately, wisely chose Pool Concepts. From the very first day when we were getting quotes, Jason came out to our home and and started working on a design, with our budget in mind. I shopped around a bit and never felt nearly as comfortable with others in town. You won't find a nicer, hardworking and wanting to please it's customers, company. Once we finalized the deal and construction started, the entire crew was out to meet with us, introduce themselves, their roles and their contact info. From that point on, Ryan was our project manager and was on site overseeing progress on a very regular basis. Group text messages were sent throughout the entire process as to when crews would finish and the next phase would start. Ryan also went above and beyond standard customer service and made sure that our neighbors were taken care of. We had to remove a large section of fencing that we share with our neighbor and Ryan made sure to coordinate how we could temporarily secure the fence so that their dogs could still roam freely in their backyard during our construction. When it was discovered that the gate the neighbor was going to use didn't work properly, Ryan took it upon himself to go fix their gate so that our construction wouldn't interfere with their day to day lives, or at least as little as possible. Each and every crew that showed up to do their specific job was very courteous, professional and above all, skilled at their trade. This was very evident because they were getting their jobs done in a very timely manner with consistent quality. Ryan and the quality control personnel were here checking the progress at multiple stages of construction and making changes as necessary or having any minor issues found, corrected immediately. Even our neighbors on the street have complemented our choice because of how professional, timely and beautiful the job went. If you're looking for a quality, local family owned company that cares about their customers and builds the highest quality pools for the money, you need look no further than Pool Concepts. Look into the fine print and details of the craftsmanship, you won't find this anywhere else. They also took great care in not disrupting the surrounding yards, neighbors, etc... And that meant a lot to us. The construction is solid, using the larger steel to adhere the concrete. The flagstone is perfectly matched so that it's an even size all around. They even sanded the edges of the flagstone along the edge of the pool so that you don't feel the sharp edges entering and exiting the pool. You won't find this level of quality for the money anywhere else. Having a pool built is a stressful and a time consuming job no matter what. But I can tell you that from the multiple people I talked to that have had this done, our experience was by far the best. What can I say? I did not want to resort to this bad review, but after 7 months and 24 days our pool is still not completed. They did finally get the pool partially operable a month ago, which we greatly appreciate. However, I have not seen any of Pool Concepts employees or contractors since. Yes, in the beginning COVID set back some of the items needed for pool. However, the real reason of the delays is Pool Concepts took advantage of the onslaught of families wanting a pool this year. Their lack of respect for customer satisfaction and response to calls, text, emails or any other forms of communication was horrendous. Bottom line Pool Concepts did not and does not have enough project managers and contractors for the amount of pool startups they accepted. Magic Word here is "Greedy". Throughout the process the lack of project management was limited to a few times a month or less. I do not blame the project manager he was overextended in the number of pools assigned. I totally blame management for allowing this to happen. Oh yes, I heard good help was hard to find. So, does that mean the customer and quality of work should suffer because of the Greed? Fortunately, I home office and had the ability to monitor the process. Being around construction projects for most of my life I was able to recognize things that went wrong. Yes, I brought attention of items to Jason and project manager and all I heard from Jason was Mr. Smith I assure you we do things much better than other pool companies and you will have a beautiful pool at the end. I'm sorry this is my first pool. I have no idea of how other pool companies build pools. We (my wife and I) chose Pool Concepts not some other pool company. You always hear people say pool companies are the worst. Now I understand why that statement is so true. Oh, watch out for the old bait and switch. The concept drawing is much better than the outcome. (See attached pics). A couple items to note. POA required the outside walls of our pool to match color of house and was noted in our approval letter which pool concepts was aware. Is the pool painted yet? NO! See pic of concept pool and actual pool. Another item the columns are shown in design pic to be wrapped in travertine, but Pool Concepts is denying this and saying contract only says columns are to be topped with travertine. Hmm the old bait and switch. Shown on design pic and cover of proposal but left off construction drawings. How clever. Yes, we were told they would substitute the travertine with another type of stonework. I agreed and said that would be acceptable. This has not been completed yet either. As it stands now, we still have exposed pipes and uncovered trenches, left over deconstruction, trash left by contractors and several other items left unattended. Getting to our pool equipment is treacherous. Pool Concepts excuse, "we are waiting on fire pit to be in stock". Tell me how that impedes the cleanup, the completion of columns and painting the outside walls. Answer to that question lies in the fact Pool Concepts requires full payment before plastering pool. Lookout, please do not accept this in your contract. We were fools to believe Pool Concepts would honor their part of the contract once paid in full. Oh yes, we do owe for the fire pit still. However, it has not been installed yet. One of the magic bowls bases was placed on top of the column was set off center which the last Pool Concept's employees noticed but decided to go forth with placing bowl on base. The water flow barely makes it past the top of column. This is fine with no wind, but the slightest breeze causes water flow to hit top of column and splash outside to pool. Since our house is on top of a hill, we typically always have a breeze. I could go on and on about what went wrong with the construction of our pool and Pool Concepts deficiency in professionalism. Bottom line is, choose your pool company wisely. Pool Concepts does not actually build your pool they only hire multiple contractors. We are in the final stages of finishing our new pool with Pool Concepts and we can't be more impressed with our experience. We met with 3 other well known pool companies in San Antonio and ultimately decided to go with Jason and Pool Concepts for 5 reasons: 1) They have impressive knowledge of pools, design and various options without being "pushy." They listened to our needs and came up with a design that was in-line with budget. The 3D software they used to show us our pool design was key in helping us make final layout and design decisions. (No other company we visited used this software.) 2) Their high level of consistent communication from day 1 to now has been textbook. I just got off the phone with my weekly quick call where they asked us to confirm placement of basketball hoop insert and to let us know they will be pouring concrete for decking tomorrow. Anytime we had a question, I would email and I would usually have a live phone call back within an hour. When we couldn't decide on color of plaster, Jason gained a homeowner's permission and took us to actual customer's pools to show us, in person. Talk about good customer service. 3) The professionalism and down to earth qualities of every Pool Concept employee that we have come in contact has been wonderful. I can't say enough good thing about the promptness and follow up of our project manager, Miguel, and all the workers that have been at our house during excavation and laying down the coping and decking. You can tell they all like who they work for, which says a lot. They have been super efficient. We picked out our final pool coping stone on a Wednesday afternoon and they had it there being installed the following morning at 8AM. 4) I like that is a smaller to medium family owned business that was started right here in San Antonio, 20 years ago. 5) I keep meeting more and more people through my children's school and friends that have pools built by Pool Concepts and all the stories are consistent about great experiences and great quality pools, even years later. ** In complete honestness, the first time I called the office I did not get a returned call, however, I understand that it was one of their busiest times of the year.
