Ordered a Mexican Mocha. It was a basic mocha. Ordered the avocado toast plate, specified NO BACON The eggs were clearly cooked WITH BACON. My eggs were greasy and the taste of bacon was overpowering. There were chunks and little bits of bacon throughout, clearly the chef made special efforts to scrape tiny bits from the cooktop into the eggs. Absolutely unacceptable and revolting. I became violently ill. Not sure who thinks it's funny to prepare food incorrectly in your kitchen Pony Espresso, but you need to have a staff meeting to assure your guests aren't getting contaminated food that can cause allergic reactions. read more

I've been to the location in Medford several times. It is generally perfectly pleasant but nothing spectacular. It was very disappointing today when my son and I went for a drink at 4:45. When the gentleman behind the counter took our order at 4:50, he had already shut down the espresso machine and the blender, so there actually weren't many drinks available. He said that they are open till five- Ish, and they stop serving most drinks at 4:45. I think that's pretty misleading. read more

I have yet to have an exquisite taste experience in this utterly charming coffee shop. I love the interior and exterior of the building in beautiful Jacksonville but I find the coffee drinks too harsh and too sweet. I also find the pastries they offer to be too sweet with not enough unique and special gluten-free offerings. It is incredibly easy to make delicious gluten-free baked goods that are not overly sweet but have a rich, deep flavor. It is also easy to make coffee drinks that that use rich but gentle coffee and that are not made overly sweet. read more

I will say that they have friendly employees. However, the mocha that I have ordered every month is just not good. It tastes like the beans are slightly burnt? This is right across from where I get my massage sessions, so the last few times I have tried the coffee and food have been disappointing. I didn't really love the Reuben that I had a few weeks ago and I didn't really love the breakfast burrito that I had today, mostly because of the salsa. It was overpowering (chipotle?) and I just didn't care for it. So a mocha and breakfast burrito comes to over $15. WTF. My 16 oz mocha wasn't even full! When we first moved to the Jacksonville area Pony Espresso was on top of their game, service was great and we ordered takeout nearly every weekend but our most recent experiences have been dreadful. Smoothies made before the food is finished so they are not good. Items left off our order. Showing up to pick up the food and unless you are a Grub Hub or Uber Eats driver they forget to tell you when your order is ready. I'm sorry to write this, but I used to LOVE this place! The food has gone downhill. I've been going to Pony Espresso since the early 2000's. My favorite sandwich was the Turkey Pesto Panini. What they serve now is horrible! 1. It isn't a panini. They don't use a panini press. You can tell that one side of the sandwich has obviously never had heat on it, and the grill marks are missing. 2. They no longer put pesto on it. They put on pesto aioli. Aioli is just boogie mayonnaise, and theirs is overly oily and made with very little pesto. This means the sandwich is missing the pesto flavor. This sandwich went from something truly amazing to something sub-par. I haven't tried any of the other sandwiches lately, to be honest, I'm kind of afraid to. The location is cute and it's clean inside - but the drinks leave room for wanting. My matcha tasted old and I requested that it be sweetened with honey. They failed to do so. I ordered a latte on a different visit and was so dissatisfied with the quality of the coffee. The pastry's were good and tasted fresh. We came in early and it was slow, only a couple other folks in the shop. The servers were polite but they placed my drink on the counter and never said anything. When I asked if it was my drink the server responded as if it was the silliest question they had ever heard. I don't think I'll be back. read more

I have been wanting to try them and I'm so glad I stopped to do so! I was on the go so I went through the m drive through. I am dairy free and vegetarian and the girl at the drive through made ordering a breeze. Firstly, customer service is a 10. She provided options and recommendations for altering their latte and breakfast options. Secondly, their expresso is delicious which makes me very happy. I will say, if you're ordering food, I'd probably just go inside to order my food and drink. They have you pull up to bring you out your food, which is fine, and nice that they run your food out to you. What I ordered: Kalua Kicker 12 oz (expresso, half and half milk, caramel, coconut and Irish cream) - I substituted for soy milk. Since they're soy milk isn't "Vanilla soy" she added a pump of vanilla. It tastes like heaven and I definitely recommend. Breakfast burrito (custom) with egg, potatoes, avocado and their salsa. Total came out to around $10 and some change. I'd say it's worth it and I'll be back. Next time, I'll be sure to go checkout the inside. read more

Just Okay I have been wanting to visit this place for awhile. Finally was able to stop today. I was very disappointed. The staff was great and I liked the outside seating. The drinks were pretty good. My husband ordered an iced mocha and recieved a frapp, but it was very good. I ordered the matcha frapp with almond milk which was good. We also ordered sandwiches. The turkey cranberry used canned cranberry sauce, had too much mayo and needed more lettuce or sprouts. The tuna had absolutely no flavor. Neither sandwich came with a side. Not like the Ginuwine song of old or the actual Pony Express- this Jacksonville cafe is clean and fast on its feet. You can grab a breakfast sandwich for under five bucks (thanks, Oregon sales tax!) and depending on the day, it'll come out in five minutes, but usually under ten, even on a busy weekend morning. They also have scrambles (think southwestern, Mediterranean, smoked salmon, and so on) that will set you back less than ten bucks a plate. Add in drip and you're still under ten with huge portions to boot! Doesn't hurt that the food is tasty- it ain't fancy, but every single portion sends chills up and down your spine... okay, I promise I'm done with the Ginuwine comparisons. The one aspect I really love about this place is the decor- Pony Express has exposed wood with a painted forest green ceiling and rafters and a red accent wall, all of which set a perfect backdrop for their real stars: local art, a myriad collection of books, plants, antique furnishings, and an old stove which faces opposite from the condiment bar. For goodness' sake, whether on purpose or by accident, even the previously stark-white outlets in here look like they've been antiqued, and yet the clientele in Lycra bike gear reminds you that you're still in the 21st century. Holy cow, I just realized they even have a drive-up window. What is this place? Thank you, Pony Express, for making a wayward traveler feel at home when miles away from it. They do not care about anyone else they get mad at you when you pull up in the drive-through, not knowing they don't sell or make a certain item that they always have even just a couple weeks ago through the drive-through anymore They act snobby like it's my fault that I'm supposed to know things, even though I would have no way of knowing then I get told with an attitude that I have to pull around and park and wait when I try to do that there's no parking because it's the tiniest little place possible then I have an angry Karen pull up on me throwing a fit because I'm stuck in the dirt parked in the only place I can't be waiting. I don't wanna deal with her crap so I get back into the drive-through just to get right behind a vehicle that what I was holding up apparently that was waiting for their food no problem so I ask for my money back and I get attitude from the boss or the manager like it's appropriate for them to treat me this way when all I wanted was my money back and what happened to this place and how dare you be mad at me for not knowing what you guys are now doing or how you run your business! This place is truly trash now compared to what it was literally just a few years ago and the manager should be ashamed of herself and so she's a little girl at the window. I can't work a job without showing her attitude to a customer for not knowing they don't serve this item through the drive-through. How dare you!
