This was one of our favorite campground stops of our trip. The people who work there are so nice! The bathrooms were clean and nice because there was a separate area to get ready aside from the sink area where you're brushing your teeth. Their maintenance man helped us with some things on our RV. we used the laundromat and everything was clean and dry within an hour. The bus for the Cody rodeo will pick up at the campground, although we chose to drive our camper over to the fairgrounds where there is free parking. The campground is conveniently located near downtown Cody, as well as the Walmart, Bill Cody Museum and the rodeo. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it! read more

Stop! Rethink this park if you want to relax at night with the internet. Non existent! Love to start my day with the news and end with a great movie. Unable to do either. The park is pretty and the office and shop nice. The staff is nice. It's just the damn WiFi!!!! Fix it or stop advertising u have it! read more

Ponderosa Campground is as good as you can ask for in terms of being an adequate enough RV/Trailer Park and Campsite. It has all the amenities including rustic little cabins to rent out (in case you don't have an RV or tent), clean showers and restrooms for all the guests and plenty of area/space to breathe in the fresh outdoors air. I discovered Ponderosa Campground through the app on my phone called CAMPENDIUM. I highly recommend downloading Campendium for all the adventurers out there looking for places to sleep for the evening while along their journeys. Ponderosa Campground is situated right within the heart of downtown Cody, Wyoming. I loved this town of Cody...a throwback in time to the old west...so I'm glad I had the chance to spend the night in town...and especially here at Ponderosa Campground to relax with my tent underneath the stars. Just a quick backstory...I was in search for a place to sleep for the night the evening I was here in Cody. Since Ponderosa Campground doesn't accept online reservation or bookings, I made a last second phone call to inquire if a campsite was still available. Although the family who runs/owns the park was preparing to leave for the day...they were very friendly and mentioned they would wait around for me to arrive before leaving. Once I finally got here, for me only needing a primitive campsite it was $35. This was a little pricey you'd expect for a campground, but since they offered showers and bathrooms...it's sort of right in-line with the average price for any RV Park. Plus you have to take into account Cody is a popular summer destination. And actually...since I was a AAA Member, I got the $35 reduced to $31! Good deal for me! Also, Ponderosa Campground only accepts cash or checks. No credit cards. Not a problem as well. They guided me to the area for camping down at the base of a giant hill. I was handed a map for locating everything along the grounds. But...I did have to drive my car very slowly down a paved pathway to the bottom of this hill. From there...I simply chose my campsite among maybe 10 spaces or so. My site had a picnic table and fire-pit for grilling, but I didn't need to barbecue since I had already eaten a little earlier. I just wanted to shower up and take it easy. The showers and restrooms were situated at the top of the hill, which meant I had to walk back up the pathway...maybe a 5 minute walk at the most. For my convenience if I didn't feel like walking up the hill, they did offer a couple of vault toilets next to the campsites. After setting up my tent, I then headed to the showers. There were actually 2 separate shower sections on the grounds! The 1st area was near the top of the hill featuring 2 private bathrooms with showers included. The 2nd area was within the main grounds next to the RV Park. Here there were communal showers and toilets to accommodate more people. After freshening up and before walking back down the hill, there was a bench area next to the vending machines where I was able to sit down for a moment and appreciate the evening sky and surroundings. It was a pleasant summer night and I felt fortunate for taking some time to realize how far I traveled to get to Cody. It was just a quick little timeout for me, lol. Best of all about being back down at the base of the hill...it seemed like I had a little private portion within the campground all to myself. Granted, a few other campsites had been occupied...but being away from the RV and cabin area made my stay here feel more intimate among nature. I had a terrific night's rest and was recharged the following day for continuing on my cross country trip. Ponderosa Campground is terrific in all aspects of being that ideal RV Park and Campsite. My experience was top notch and I certainly recommend to anyone out there reading this that I give my stamp of approval. read more

Nice place to stay in the very fun, very busy town of Cody, Wyoming. The town is amazing, the staff is exceptionally helpful and friendly. The shower/restroom facilities are dated, but cleaner than some hotels I have experienced. The campground is within easy walking distance of the Buffalo Bill Center of the West (an AMAZING place: you will need at least two days to visit this museum/art gallery/natural history museum), numerous places to eat, and lots of stores (think tourist stuff) to peruse. The only drawback was their no refund policy. We had an unexpected and unplanned need to return home a day earlier than we had scheduled; we called the office more than 24 hours in advance to let them know we were leaving early and asked about a partial refund. We were told that they have a no refund policy. The person on the phone was nice about it and that is about the only reason that this campground did not receive a 5/5 stars from us. Having written that, when we return to Cody, we will return to the Ponderosa. read more

Let's start by saying we love Cody! Campground is cute. Had a nice store, park for the kids and dog run area. There is also a cool little river within walking distance to explore. They have grass area in front of the campsites. You aren't able to use a rug though on the grass and the concrete pad is really small. I would say that was the only downfall with a toddler. Kids had a blast here. Prices were great. They only book via phone call which kind of sucks because I like to pick my spots. And all their reservations on done via paper. They could probably use an update with technology. I saw they had an issue with double booking. Would definitely come back here! read more

Very Accommodating, booked last minute, nice staff. Made the process easy, and painless. Driving our motorcycles and needed a place to relax for the night read more

Wonderful southern hospitality at it best! I can't say enough wonderful things about this campground right off of I95. I called for a place to stop after encountering a truck problem. Gregory the owner told us to "come right in." He welcomed us immediately when we drove in. The campground was clean and had a full hook up. He personally helped us connect early the next morning with a diesel mechanic - Steve from "Insane Diesel" that was outstanding- We enjoyed the peaceful quietness of this campground, yet were close to many local stores. We look forward to stopping again. read more

Great service! Friendly people and great value for the price. The bad reviews complain about the older bathrooms but they didn't look that old to me and, most importantly, they are clean. Three thumbs up. read more

Tent camping at this place is not very restful. The lower more secluded tent sites were closed, and not sure why they think tents right on the main road through town would be a good idea, but noise most of the night from cars/trucks (quiet from 1am-3am). And for $40+tax per night (family of four) for a patch of grass, seems a little steep. They do have clean showers and a laundry room. Update: told staff about being told a week prior of quiet site down by the river, and the noise up by the road (told at check in that road is quiet at night), all he said was "and your point is?" Ok, so customer service is lacking as well. read more

At best a one star parking lot for RVs. Grounds and maintenance staff were ok. However the mowing leaves a lot to be desired. The office staff, not sure of her name, but she is not customer friendly at all!!! We had power problems in space 81p. They were quick to get an electrician out to diagnose the problem. When the electrician was done they didn't tell us what was going on and left us without elect for the day until we questioned the office. They didn't really tell us anything except we needed to change spots. My Progressive ems/surge protector stopped working because of the power problem. So here we are with no electricity for which we paid as part of their fees. The lady was snotty and said there was nothing she could do until the next day, which is today and it's alomst noon and have not heard from her. She did offer us a cabin for the night but it had less than we already had. Very unsatisfying experience!!!! Never again staying here. read more

Just popped in for an overnight. Staff were good, site was nothing special, but it was quiet and easy to get in an out of. All in all a good experience read more

From the moment we checked in it was a great experience. I cannot say enough about the staff here. When I checked in (hubby waited in the truck) Barbara helped me. We didn't have cash (forgot they didn't take cards) and Barbara said, go get set up first and we'll deal with the payment later. Being from CA this is totally foreign to me. Then Barbara proceeded to spend a ton of time with me going over all of the things to do and see in the area. She was extremely nice and sincerely helpful. I never felt like I was taking up her time. Hubby even thought something had happened with our reservation because I was inside for a while talking with her. The grounds are nice, mostly even. We have a longer 5th wheel and we had plenty of space and even with the slide outs, we weren't terribly crowded. All of the people we encountered, both staff and others staying were polite. We will FOR SURE be back here! read more

showers were excellent - super clean and open all day and night. the campground was super nice and there was a little river that flowed through the back that you could jump in! it was conveniently close to downtown Cody but far enough away to get a good night sleep. read more

We were given a back in site that was so close to our neighbors we couldn't open our awning and slide out at the same time. If there was a ghetto area we were in it. The grass was dead at the site and the very small dog park didn't even have a place to sit down. When we complained about the site one of the staff said that I told her we had a motor home when we have a travel trailer. However I never spoke to her about the reservation and only had spoken to a male who answered the phone. We eventually were allowed to choose from a few other vacant spots. The laundromat was clean and comfortable. Pass this place by. read more

The Ponderosa campground has a great location in the middle of Cody and close to the location for the night rodeo. The staff is really helpful. Though the RV spots are a bit tight, they have a great tent camping area in the back. This area is really quiet with ample room for tents. read more

Should be called Ponderosa Parking Lot RV Park. A few trees and a few patches of weeds does not constitute "campground". One working sink in the ladies room. If there were any other places available we'd leave and go there but everything is full. Ugh. read more

What a beautiful spot Ponderosa is! We came from California in a 32' class C. It was our first time to Cody and my husband, five children and I experienced nothing but the most hospitable and helpful people. There were so many things to do in Cody which the staff informed us all about and, of course, we chose the Rodeo. Our first Rodeo - and what an awesome one at that! Ponderosa seemed to be in a perfect place, a short distance from everything we did. We were also happy to have Pizza Hut walking distance. The on-site store had everything, but most importantly it had my favorite and best fitting shirt I've ever owned. Stay here if you can! read more

Excellent campground for the night. We need a place to stay on our way to Yellowstone and this was great. The staff was helpful, the location was convenient to everything, and the spaces were well maintained for our RV. Very happy and would return. read more

Good location; quiet; so-so wifi. Good showers, adorable playground for the kids. IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW: 1. They only take cash or personal checks 2. They inexplicably close the bathrooms for cleaning between 10-11, and checkout is at 11. 3. You MUST call in the morning on the day of your arrival to let them know you're coming, and to please not give away your spot. 4. Keep calling, because it seems like they have only one phone line and it was busy the first 5 times we called. If you know these things going in, you'll have a good stay. read more

One of the better campgrounds/RV parks in Cody. The staff was very friendly and helpful, they give discounts for AAA and Good Sam as well. Really close to Buffalo Bill museum, Yellowstone, and downtown Cody. Good rate, $35 a night for electric and water only, no hookups. Bathrooms were pretty small but decent, 2 toilet stalls and 3 showers with plenty of hot water and space to put your belongings. Only complaint would be that the spaces are very close together! Overall, I would definitely recommend this place, we enjoyed it. read more

Ponderosa was able to accommodate a last minute space for a 32' RV. The spaces don't provide much room for privacy, but the grounds are clean and in a great location close to the main road of attractions in town, and close to Yellowstone which is where we were headed. The managers are very friendly and the main office and gift shop has basic needs items which is great. read more

The campground location is convenient, and generally clean. But that's about it. They do NOT take credit cards or debit. Only cash or checks. We arrived in mid October and the first night they did not turn the water off. But at 4:30pm on the second night, they knocked on my door and said the water is off. No notice. Nothing said at check in the day before. Their only retort was there was a note on the office door. I am pretty sure it wasn't there the day before and since the water was NOT turned off the first night I'm pretty sure it wasn't there. Seems they don't care. Employee just shrugged his shoulders and walked off. At the office they just said "there's a hose you can get water at up front". Well, that would be great if I were just pulling in. But since my rig was already set up the night before... And, no, you didn't mention that at check-in the day before. There's better places. And the sites are on top of each other. I had to move my neighbor's picnic table as the slide-out was running into it. Fortunately there wasn't anyone on my other side so it didn't feel like we were parked at a truck stop. I'll be back to Cody, but not to this place. read more

I wish I had some of these reviews before going to Ponderosa. For $57 a night, this was the most expensive campground of our whole 3 week trip, and easily the one with the least comfort of the least quality. As other people mentioned - spaces are tiny. The worst are the bathrooms though - they are very old, and one had no water at all (without any explanation). The soaps in the bathroom were more water than soap I guess they were thinned out to save money. People in the office where nice enough, but mainly interested in selling us tickets to attractions, in fact, the best thing they seem to have going for them is their advertising. Save your money - anything else in Cody must be better than this place! read more

Don't ever stay here, quiet time starts at 1 a.m. The management is sub standard at best. Cody has other great campgrounds to stay at and I would make use of them rather than this one. read more

The people here were VERY nice. However, I would have almost been as well off staying in a Walmart parking lot. I asked for a quiet space and was given a location right by the entrance that backed up to the playground. There was someone in our space, and they were quick to put us in the adjacent space. The space was little more than a marked area on their old torn up asphalt. RV's were stacked on top of each other. The hose hookup was behind some bushes in a very small grass area with one picnic table that was shared with the people in the adjacent space. They were nice enough to loan me an extension hose so we could have water. I was told that everything quieted down after 10pm and it was strictly enforced. However, kids were playing and making noise at 12:30am and I had to tell them to quiet down. The office and amenities closes at 8:30pm which was a drag if you catch the rodeo (which was great). They have a massive souvenir shop that stocks little else besides tourist junk. Cable channels were plentiful and the wi-fi worked great. But, there was ALOT of morning noise as well from motorcycles as you are just off the main highway. Thankfully we were here only one night. read more

I've tent camped at my fair spare of spots across the country, and Ponderosa is a special kind of average. TENT SITES: The tent sites are right up against the road with only a mere fence to separate you from solitude and all the traffic running through Cody. In the end, it turned out alright, but we were put off by the proximity. Then again... we're camping in a city, so let's just go ahead and discard that expectation. Note that there are no defined campsites so the grassy area is just a orderly chaos of tents, but somehow it works out. POPULATION: There was an interesting array of people tenting the night we blew through. There were one or two small families in large tents, ample motorcyclists, and a few weary travelers looking for a place to rest their heads. Everyone was courteous, quiet, and kept to themselves. RV SITES: Yeah, those RV sites are definitely set together. But look... part of the greatness of Ponderosa is it's fluid availability - and that availability is directly related to the tight conditions and increased number of available spots so... you give a little, you take a little. SHOWERS: The showers have great water pressure, but the bathrooms are not well ventilated so it gets humid in there quickly. Propping a door open does alleviate the problem, but introduces a whole host of bugs to the mix - but that's part of the fun of camping, right? CUSTOMER SERVICE: Everyone we spoke with was really great. We were coming in after the office had already closed, but we got ample assistance over the phone in preparation for setting up the tent and navigating the site at night. We were able to pay in the morning and move along our way. As we checked out, the older man at the front desk gave us some great breakfast/lunch recommendations. PERKS: There's a rec hall with a pool table and ample seating to hang out in as the day passes. It's right next door to a Dairy Queen with late hours so you can treat yourself after you pitch the tent. Ponderosa has a nice set-up in their store to grab your postcards, collectibles, and snacks. read more

We camped here in a tent in early may. The tent area was a well groomed picnic area with water and electrical available. Just had to watch for people who did not pick up after their dogs. It was next to the road but the traffic provided white noise and did not bother us. The showers are small but private with small but forceful shower heads that beat you with water. It felt great after 5 days on the road. Off season pricing was $22 but it's still a great deal at the regular rate of $27/night. There is a laundry room onsite and the staff were very friendly and helpful. They will point out lots of great things to see and do. read more

My boyfriend and I stayed at Ponderosa in late-June on a westward road trip. We had booked one of the teepees and had hoped to stay in it but, upon arrival, we were told that the teepee in the secluded area was booked but that we could have out choice of the other three. HOWEVER, i was none to inclined to stay in a teepee, when i would just have to set up my own tent inside of it, right on the main road in cody and next door to a dairy queen. Not much in terms of ambiance. However, everyone at Ponderosa was EXTREMELY kind and courteous. We ended up camping and were lucky to get a campsite in the way back, down a hill, by a nice stream. It was beautiful but i must say, had we not been able to get that spot we would have been S.O.L. read more

This is the only campground in town and it is convenient to everything one would need. The front desk people helped us arrange a river trip, which was awesome. They don't take credit cards but I was shocked to hear they would accept my personal check. The tent area is a big grassy field where it is first come first serve. There are teepees available down by the river and some cabins as well as the normal RV spots. All of the employees were very helpful, friendly, and gave great recommendations for local activities. This was a great choice to stay the night. read more

Changing the empty toilet paper rolls will not cause brain damage. What could be worse? Trying to get enough sheets off the roll to make a decent wipe. There is a good fix. Bring your own and hard hat. The stall are so narrow, I got lumps on my head trying to wipe up...or down. You know you're in trouble when the bathroom et ambiance hits you at the door like a ball bat on the nose. A previous visiting customer parked their dog's scat into the garbage. It sat there for two stinking days. Did you really want to shower and shave? It takes a brave man, Gunga Din. It does't matter what gender you are, this event could be dangerous. The shower stalls are so narrow I bumped into myself twice turning around. Everything you bring has to fit on a half a bench that wetter than the spray from the shower. How did Good Sam ever give this valuable and necessary facility a 9 Star rating. All I can surmise is that somebody most have goofed up. Fool me once, shame on you... Yeah! Yeah. All the other stuff about Camptel is true too. A Camptel is what I call an RV motel that you park you vehicle in front of your RV instead of your room. The same thing goes to the cite right next to you and next them and them and so on. So, if you pick this as your prefered stop, remember this. And it's important too remember. Your water hose must be able to stretch from one side of your rig to the other because the cites are it's not plumed like any other RV Camptel. The water facet that is on the opposite side of all the RV rigs that I've encountered, makes it so that you have to walkover your hose to sit at the picnic table or your front door. Is that stupid or what? . read more

The campground has been so cool!! The man at the front desk, Tom told us a lot about Cody, we went in, and none of the other campers were asking about what to do in town, we did however, and once we did, Tom told us about all kinds of amazing things to do locally! He seemed like someone that should work for the toursm board...really great place. The man, Tom, was funny, knowledgeable and very kind! Thank you Thank you! read more

Take some advice & go up the road a little ways and camp at the Buffalo Bill state park. You'll have to dry camp but there's a water & sewer fill & dump site. This place is crammed inside the city & if you're just looking for a parking space I guess it will work. Not the best spot in Cody. read more

I give it one star due to its convenient location to everything in town, otherwise it was awful. Very tiny park for the kids and an even tinier dog run. Trailers are super close to one another and the entire park is right next to a very busy and noisy street. The trailer park streets were too busy for the kids to ride bikes and the laundromat had several dryers out of service and a 9pm curfew. read more

We stayed here while on a Yellowstone road trip. We had made a reservation several months in advance and they did not require any payment up front but did let us know they do not accept credit cards. We arrived on site and check in was very quick and the staff was very friendly. We found our campsite with no problems and the site was very nice. We needed to catch up on laundry and we found they had a wonderful laundry room on site very clean and lots of machines to go around. Their bathrooms and shower facilities were also very nice. We did not realize there is so much to see and do in Cody and we wished we had more time to explore. There is so much to see within walking distance which is great. We will definitely be going back to explore Cody and will stay at the Ponderosa when we do! read more

In a pinch for a place to sleep, we stopped here. $48+ for the night, offseason, cash only. The good news is it's easy on and off the highway. Cement sites, easy to get level (did not have to unhook). WiFi is available. I had some difficulty staying connected, but it worked. Sites are ok size. Parking isn't easy, mostly back in with pretty tight roads. It's in town, so you can walk places. Just not my idea of camping. We'll look elsewhere next time. read more

Super convenient campground with proximity to downtown Cody (easily walkable) and about 45 min drive to Yellowstone. We booked a pull-through site for 5 nights, and glad we did! Even our site was tight, and folks without pull through were incredibly stacked. If you want the convenient location and hook-ups, and you don't care about the rest, then it's great! Nice tent areas and public facilities. We had trouble with the wifi working at our site, which was toward the back of the grounds. When asking about it at the office, the gentleman insisted that it worked and had to be our computer. We had two laptops we needed for online class work, neither worked at our site but connected right away by main office. The issue was never even addressed and confirmed by other guests in our area. Not a deal breaker, but we felt it could have been easy for them to handle. Guests were friendly and from all over. Everyone we spoke to, from camper sites to tent sites to cabin sites really liked it there and would return! There were even guests that pulled in after the office closed for a tent site but were not turned away. On the honor system, they were allowed to set up and pay in the morning. Caution - cash only, and be sure to call by their 3:00 deadline! They will give your site away at 3:01! read more

We stayed in a cabin in late May, just before Memorial Day weekend, and the place was perfectly peaceful. The cabin was small but very clean, and the beds were very comfortable. They were also nicely heated, which was absolutely necessary on 40 degree nights. There was a nice sheltered front porch with a swing and a bench, which was perfect for eating dinner when the nights were too rainy to eat on the back patio area. When the nights were clear, you could sit back there and hear nothing but the sound of the river below. The bathroom was very clean and well-maintained, though the shower heads need some serious attention. The staff at the front desk was incredibly helpful and nice! They helped us get the lay of the land and gave us every map and brochure for everything the city of Cody had to offer. I'd absolutely stay here again. It's in a perfect location between Cody and Yellowstone, and the drive between here and Yellowstone is one of the best I've seen (even if it is an hour and a half). I can't speak for the cramped-ness of it, since it was very empty while we were here, nor the campsites or tepees, but the cabins are fantastic! read more
