We stopped here with to meet up with family in the area, and they recommended Pompton Queen Diner. I want to give the server a little slack since the place was packed, but I am skeptical. Two of the orders were not completely right, and we were missing items; The server seemed annoyed when we reminded her of the missing items, and told her about the errors on our orders. Everyone decided to just eat what they had instead of sending back the food. Eventually she brought out missing items, but not until we were mostly finished with our meals. It may have been a bad day for her, and I don't like to judge a diner on one server, but this was pretty unfortunate. I did enjoy my meal at PQ Diner. I got a cheese omelet and it was really tasty. I have no complaint about the food! It seems like a nice diner, and would go back if I was in the area! I have never had a bad meal in this diner. No matter what time of day I have gone they're always busy. Wait staff is very personable. Sam, one of the owners, is a great guy. The cashier/hostess is a delight. We'll be missing our trips there as we head back south for the winter. But we are always assured they will be here upon our return. read more

One of my favorite places to eat for sure! We've been here about 6 times in the last two months (June 2014 to present) and I'm always looking for another reason to go. We always get their dinner special, which is completely worth it and delicious to boot. The dinner special comes with soup, salad, bread, entree, drink, AND dessert, all for just under 20 dollars. Portions. They are generous and usually, after I've finished the bread, soup, and salad, I'm ready to pack it up and go before the entree and dessert even come out. We often take our leftovers home (and order knowing that we will, so we usually order microwave friendly things), and make at least 2 meals out of it. My husband usually gets the meatloaf, and I get the chicken parm over pasta. All their soups are homemade and are really good (some of my favorites are the cream of turkey, chicken noodle). I have had it once where it wasn't as good as I remembered it, but I'd say the majority of the time, the soup is excellent. The salad isn't huge, but it's definitely enough to munch on while the entree is coming out. The entree is huge. They come out on these huge plates and even if I just ate that without the starters, I would still have a hard time finishing it. Our personal favorite dessert is the rice pudding, though there are other tasty looking cakes in their display. Their rice pudding is homemade and if we aren't bursting at the seams already from the dinner, is a great way to cap it all off. We've never personally had poor service; the waiters seem to walk with a purpose and have all been polite enough. They run a tight ship from what we can see. We love going for the great dinner deal and definitely recommend giving this place a try just for the mountain of delicious food that you get with the deal! read more

Let me start by saying the food was wonderful and we kept saying ohhh that looks really good we should have ordered that but and you know there is a but. I went with my daughter and granddaughter and my daughter will say she is a germafobe. Well her coffee cup had lipstick on it. Which the manager was gracious and apologized and replaced. My granddaughters glass dessert dish had good sized chip in the edge. When brought to their attention again apologizes. When we got the bill we were charged for the coffee and makeup. I didn't think it was possible for a diner to improve during COVID, but these guys pulled it off. Fresh food, super friendly staff, extensive menu. The chopped salads are off the charts good. It's impressive how well Pompton Queen diner has been able to adjust to the outdoor dining mandate. The food is just as high quality as it always has been and even though the staff has to walk up and down the stairs to get to us from the kitchen they're still in good spirits and timely. Additionally, the outdoor seating is much more comfortable and attractive then most other places we've been to in the last few months. It was going to get 4-stars, but the dessert won me over. Fantastic diner. This is not you're typical greasy-spoon NJ diner with the big red neon lights outside. This is one of the best diners I have been to, following shortly behind Tops in East Newark. Food was great, and the prices were EXCELLENT for the quantity and quality of what you get. I got a grilled salmon sandwich. Now, I typical stay away from seafood at diners, but this place did it right. Now onto the Dessert. I got the Napoleon, which was better than some high end bakeries. I also took a bite out of my friends cheesecake, also quite good. As always, I'm conservative with the 5-star review, but I couldn't find anything to complain about. Good food, good service, 24hrs. Good Place; for breakfast lunch and dinner but you may have to wait because the lines are pretty heavy but the food is great and so is the service They have specials every day and for lunch and dinner. Just ate here a few minutes ago, 4 of us all vegan, 3 of us got the black bean burgers that says it's "Vegan" on the menu, but it has "cheddar" listen as one of the items on it we asked if that was vegan cheddar which it should be if you're going to put it on a vegan burger!!! ...the waitress said no it's regular cheddar and kept telling us about the fact that the burger has protein like we are protein starving vegans and then says I know cause I'm a vegan, (I have a feeling she wasn't) so obviously we all said we don't want the cheddar on it no problem, burgers came tasted good but now we all have excruciating stomach pain and we think we know why, the burger bun was not vegan, it was a brioche bun which I just looked up how it's made and it's main ingredients are eggs, butter milk & cream... educate yourself first before you put a "vegan" burger on your menu that's not vegan at all. Let me first say the reason for the 1 star has nothing to do with the food. Hubby and I went last night for dinner close to 5pm. We walk in to see Sammy one of the owners yelling at the hostess in front of customers and employees. He proceeds to seat us. Doesn't even wait for us and storms to the back to yell at a young waitress for not being in her station as he kept putting it. He kept on her so bad he made her cry. We got to witness him giving her death stare entire time after that!!! Horrible . Sammy you owe her and the hostess an apology and should go to school to learn how to treat people. My husband and I went to Pompton Queen many times before moving to FL 15 years ago so were excited to return during our recent road trip to NJ. We ordered old favorites, open face turkey with gravy and fries for me and husband had meatloaf platter with fries. Portions were massive! The turkey on my platter was very good, but unfortunately the gravy had NO taste, and it was on a piece of toasted white bread - bread tasted stale. Husband liked his meatloaf but way too much food even for his big appetite. Same trip, different day made a second trip for breakfast. Both ordered omelets and home fries - again massive, which were very good. We can't get good hard rolls in FL so I ordered one with breakfast instead of toast, and it was a big disappointment - not a light and crispy hard roll, rather a dense soft roll no different from the kaiser rolls we can get in FL. So unfortunately overall the diner didn't live up to expectations. read more

Fantastic! Everything a great diner should be! Arrived after 8PM on a Saturday night and still had to wait. Only 10 minutes so not a big deal. But the amount of people waiting says a lot. Everything was delicious and fresh. Great, friendly staff as well. I wish I'd had room for dessert. read more

Have not been here in years even though we live in PL. Had a yen for breakfast so we decided to visit although it was 5pm. Did not disappoint! Everything we had was prepared perfectly. I've been hearing great things about this diner for years and finally tried it last night. I ordered the chicken taverna, my wife ordered the chipotle burger and my son ordered the chili and fried calamari. Although the place was really busy they got us seated quickly and the food came out fast. Everything was very good and there were plenty of leftovers. The food and service was fine. The reason for only 3 stars is we had a group of three and requested a back booth because we were having a business meeting and wanted a measure of privacy. We were promply told "no" which I though was rude considering it was a weeknight, before 5pm and the place wasn't even 1/4 full. There wasn't even a single person sitting at any of those booths! That is not good customer service and did not make me feel very valued as a guest. Management needs to train their staff better because that woman did a crap job and can't use a few brain cells to gauge the business and accommodate guests. read more
