Best diner in NJ by far. Huge portions for the price. I typically only go around dinner and it can get pretty packed, but for good reason and is worth the wait each time. I usually go a couple times a week and have never had a bad experience. From quesadillas that are better than any Mexican restaurant, their super tender and flavorful grilled chicken, to their savory desserts, I've enjoyed each item on the menu. Ok, fair enough. The prices did go up, but I don't remember how long it's been since an increase. The food is great and worth the prices.

Great coffee, very mediocre food and even worse service. Based on Yelp reviews and a long wait, we thought this would be a local gem. Wrong! We ordered coffee and water to start. Coffee came out in 5 minutes and we had to ask for water again after 10. Server told us she'd get around to it. Malibu omelette and mushroom and cheese omelette were dry and way over cooked. Philly cheesesteak sandwich had uncooked peppers and cold, unmelted cheese. The only positive in our experience was the coffee, which tasted great even if we had to almost beg for refills. read more

Now I've been to my fair share of Diners throughout my life, and what I mostly go to Diners for is a French Dip and Disco fries. When I do place my orders I expect my French Dip bread to have a bit of a crunch to it as well as the ability to absorb the gravy. I also expect for the cheese on my disco fries to arrive at my table with the gravy included and to be popping hot so that the cheese is still gooey. Steak Dinner With a Side of Racism This diner used to be one of my favorites. I've gone here for years, and I've invited friends and family to dine here with me all the while. But after tonight I'm never coming back, and I don't think you should either. I came into the diner around 7:00 PM with two other people. Despite the hustle and bustle we were seated and served quickly, and before long we were finished and ready to head out. After we paid, the people who came with me headed to the bathroom, so I waited around the register for them. The cashier set aside the tip money for the server, and when she came to collect her tip, she decided to share how she felt about Hispanic people. "I'm not surprised, I told you they would tip bad before I served them." The blond woman manning the register replied, "Yeah, those kinds of people always do that, and they come here and expect us to give them great service." I was disgusted that a place like this would hire a pair of racist scumbags to serve their customers. This kind of behavior is unacceptable, and I'll make sure that all the people I've recommended the Pompton Queen to take their money elsewhere. One of my favorite diners in N.J. which is open 24 hours. Great for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or late night munchies!! After a night out and a few drinks be sure to Uber here for disco fries and mozzarella sticks!! They also serve alcohol and beer here as well. There's nothing like deciding at 1:30 AM you're hungry and want some good hot food! And then being able to drive out to the local diner and being able to order it, any time, any day. The Pompton Queen is a great 24/7 local diner with way above average food, great waitresses, and decent decor (not one stitch of chrome!). I have friends who say they've been going there for thirty years or more. My current favorite is their Chicken Marsala (substitute rice for the pasta) - but you gotta get there by 10 PM or the kitchen shuts down their sauce maker (don't ask me why they do that....). The place is almost always packed - they do a great business. As I am born and raised in NJ, I feel like a diner snob. As such a description, the Pompton Queen diner out shines most diners. What great food! I order the sandwiches...and family gets the dinners. The Pompton Queen diner & restaurant was a good place to stop on my way home from visiting some friends in the area. However, I would probably not make this a regular restaurant. I ordered the challah french toast and was very underwhelmed. The french toast was not very good, it was so bland that even my hung over friend complained! We also had a chocolate milk shake, which wasn't that great. The diner was quite busy and it seemed as though it took them longer to seat us than it took for us to eat. It had been years since Pompton Queen was a thought in my head, and even further was the possibility of just dropping by - it's approximately a 200 mile round trip from my house. But once upon a time, *cough*40 years ago*cough* I lived nearby and while I don't remember specific childhood trips there, I do recall the place always seemingly having a full parking lot, regardless of the day of the week or the time of day. Tonight brought us in as a party of 3, just after 8pm. The crowd was sizeable. The menu is huge. The prices are reasonable. My husband got a burger platter and practically licked the plate clean. My son got a chicken Caesar wrap with an "upgraded" (+$1.00) side of sweet potato fries. I got a meat loaf sandwich and used the option on the menu that lets you turn classic sandwich listings into platters and opted for regular fries. The portions were enormous and a meat loaf sandwich has absolutely no business whatsoever tasting THAT GOOD. I expected okay, whatever, comfort food. This thing practically required no chewing - it literally melts in your mouth. IDK if they bake their own rolls or have bread deliveries, but this meat loaf plus that roll, dipping before biting into a cup of brown gravy that comes with the plate..I'm almost embarrassed at how satisfying and great it was. I've eaten filet Mignon in pricey steakhouses that haven't come close to just how good this was. The awkward moment when the server asks how everything is, and you can only helplessly murmur "oh my God," and she chuckles. Apparently she sees this reaction often enough. Server was friendly and helpful. Half is wrapped and waiting to become breakfast. We three walked out of there almost uncomfortably stuffed, on the long road back home. 3 adults ate and ate well for just under $40, pretip. Worth every penny. read more

What an awesome diner! If you come here make sure and ask for Margie! She's the best that we have ever had. Plus we have been going to diners for years. The food is great. But the main reason why my wife and I plan to come back is because of Margie. She doesn't hover over you. She talks to you just enough. She's always cracking jokes to lighten the atmosphere. You can tell she's a very very skilled and talented waitress. If I ever open up a restaurant I'm taking her with me!! Tommy and Sam would have to fight me for her. First and last time here. Ignored by the hostess who had her back to the door and never moved. A man, not sure what his role is, seemed annoyed that I interrupted his playing a game on his phone at the front counter and, after I asked for a booth, just pointed to the general area where I should pick a booth. The server was totally disinterested and even brought me the check while talking on her cell phone. The food was typical diner food- flavorless. And, the entire time I was there, about an hour, a man was banging something, maybe ice, loudly and that was annoying, as well. This place was pretty good, I had a large portion of breakfast and I ordered just eggs and bacon and upgraded my pancakes to cannoli pancakes! It was very good however it was such a large portion that I could not eat all of my food in one sitting! The Pompton Queen Diner is a little bit of a cult. It's been voted the best in NJ and it's always packed, although the service is fast and attentive despite the constant crowd. We came most recently on a Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 and there were lots of people waiting. It would have been 15 minutes for a table for two, so we decided to sit at the counter which had no wait. We were served within a couple minutes although we needed more time to wade through the extensive menu, as other reviews have mentioned. When we ordered our food came out quickly (about 15 minutes) and piping hot. I ordered a Greek-themed turkey burger with tatziki sauce, feta, onion, and tomato, and this is were my review turns from 5 to 3 stars. My burger came without the tatziki, but this was quickly corrected by our server after I mentioned it. The burger, however, wasn't great. It was unpleasantly spiced and a low-quality meet with lots of gristle. The tatziki was bland and couldn't redeem the burger. I have celiac disease and always eat gluten free, and while they offered a gluten free bun, it was one of the worst gfree hamburger buns I've had in quite a while. It was dry, crumbly, and my whole burger fell apart immediately with no hope of repair. I've eaten hear a few times now, and my recommendation is to stay away if you are gluten free, as the options aren't great. Otherwise, if you want a taste of NJ diner culture do come here, but stick to very standard diner fare (ie regular burger, not turkey, not Greek) or come here for breakfast for the next experience. read more

Was very disappointed with this diner, they do not serve fresh ingredients. My girlfriend's omelette had dry and old spinach. My French toast speaks for itself, rotten strawberries and old bananas galore. Not sure how a chef could actually put that out and feel ok about it. read more
