Not sure if it's because of Covid or maybe they have more business but this last visit was a miss for me. I drive about 2 hours to visit my favorite food places here every so often. This was one of them. It was disappointing to see the chicharones dried out. Like hella dried out, lime juice couldn't save the poor thing. I could see that there were ALOT of chickens that were under the light. They used to be fresh and hot. Now it was dry and lukewarm. Huge disappointment to say the least. The rotisserie chicken has a really nice skin, but can be pretty dry on the inside. My girlfriend and I got the Pucalor plate: Rotisserie chicken, rice, beans, fried plantains, and CHICHARRÓN. It was a LOT of food even for us two to finish. I really came here for one purpose only: the chicharrón. IT IS SO ridiculously JUICY and crispy at the same time. Granted, some bites may get a bit dry, but it's worth it to come here just for this. Maybe next time I'll just get only that, no chicken. read more

Ignorance is bliss. They blissfully claim their chicken to be "Roasted chicken in the style of Colombia." Well, it's just plain old rotisserie chicken! A little undercooked, in fact, compared to all the other rotisserie chicken I've ever had. Mexican, Cuban, Portuguese, Ecuadorian and U.S. restaurants have made better chicken than this. This is a hole in the wall kinda place. The chicken combo is a good deal. One whole chicken with a choice of 2 sides. Chicken is tender and flavored all the way through. They also have one of the best french fries around. I wouldn't recommend the chicharones (pork) though. Although the flavor was there, it was too dry and tough. Service is friendly and fast. I've been to the Morristown Pucalor, and now I've hit the original. Every bit as good. This is all about the chicken. Eat the skin, eat the meat, pick the bones, gnaw like a wolf who just escaped a desert and found an unlimited carcassal buffet in the woods. Use your hands, get messy. Have some plantains, beans, rice, doesn't really matter. There is probably nothing you can get here and go wrong, unless you're a vegetarian. There's even plenty of indoor seating for you and your lunch crew. And as has been pointed out, you can treat your coworker to lunch and still not raise a corporate eyebrow! So yeah, I need to find more excuses to conduct some field work around lunchtime here. read more

The food is excellent it is the most delicious chicken I have ever eaten. The rice is excellent love the plantains. The tostones are crisp and flavorful not greasy. The chicorone is crisp and delicious and a flavor explosion in your mouth. The price is so cheap don't know how they do it. Every single event we have, we travel to Pollos Pucalor. It's about 45 minutes away and it is worth it! The roasted chicken is the most amazing chicken I've ever had. Juicy and so flavorful. The chicharrones are also a MUST! You can order a tray of their pernil (roasted pulled pork butt) but you have to call in advanced. Also a gem. You will not be disappointed by trying them out! And on top of all of that the prices are unbeatable. read more

Cash only, but worth it. After a disappointing meal at a similar "chicken place" in West Orange we decided to make the longer drive out to try Pucalor. So glad we did. Great value - $10.50 for a whole chicken, and around $13 for a combo meal (whole chicken + 2 sides). I tried the chicken soup and fell in love with it - BURSTING with flavor - but do note that the soup is made (and comes with) chicken liver and other non-meaty parts. The rotisserie chicken itself was extremely tasty and flavorful. As for the sides, the tostones were off the hook. A side salad was more simple then I'd like - iceberg lettuce plus a couple of slices of onions and tomatoes - but for the price I'm not complaining. We ate in their casual dining area and received great service. No language problems. Will be back! read more

Ok... I was searching for a Spanish restaurant cause I was in the need for chicken. So I came across this spot and based on the reviews I headed over. I ordered a combo plate with 1/4 chicken dark, white rice, beans, a corn patty?, a fried egg (which the idea of removing the yolk prior to frying was inconceivable lol), fried pork and a single slice of green plantain instead of sweet. To sum it up..the chicken was good, but not the best I've ever had. The rice and beans were ok. The fried pork was good but I wish the meaty part wasn't so tough lol. Overall, for $10.70, you can have a nice decent meal. Not spectacular, but decent. read more

Wow! Read this review now: For $17 I got a whole chicken, chicharon, side of fries and sweet plantains. It was huge. Everything tasted amazing. I called and ordered at 6pm. They told me pick up at 6:30pm and exactly at 6:30 my order was ready. I love this place and the one in Morristown area. I don't speak Spanish and it was easy to order. For $17 you can't eat this well at any restaurant in NJ. read more

Amazing Peruvian chicken, not much else to say. Great side selection and everything was amazing. Only down side is it's a small place so if you go during the lunch rush you might not get a table, but take out works just as good. If they say waiting time is 20 mins. It's an hour. PUCARDO TYPICAL PLATTER IS NOT $8.50 says in the web menu but if you actually go there. They have different price. ITS $10 for pucardo typicaal platter. Chicken is excellent but others are yuck. Especially, pork. Its deep fried and hard as rubber. Almost broke my tooth. Probably the best rotisserie chicken I've had. I brought home the whole chicken with frijoles and potatoes. I also ordered a side of rice, but ended up with chicharones. I was perfectly fine with this (albeit my less adventurous family member wouldn't eat it) and they were also excellent. Definitely want to try their plantains and consomme on my next trip. Some people say parking is an issue, which can be tight in Dover, but I got a spot in the lot no issue. It was very busy, as I was there during the lunch rush, but I was in and out in a few minutes. Just remember to bring cash, because they don't accept cards. A minor annoyance, but pretty common with Hispanic restaurants in Dover. Not too much of an issue when you can feed your family dinner with some awesome Columbian food for under $20. read more

Some of the best soup and chicken you can get in all of Dover. The grilled chicken has a great smoky and sweet flavor that feels unique to this restaurant. A local favorite. I have friends and family that will drive far out of their way for chicken from Pollo Pucalor. Their chicken is always perfectly seasoned and cooked. Their combo comes with a strip of chicharon too go along with tasty sweet plantains along with rice and beans. Everything goes great with their special sauce. It was a little kick to it, but it's very with it. However, I do find them to be a little frugal/stingy with it. Pucalor does tend to get very busy. There was one time I was told the order would take 45 minutes, so I definitely advised calling your order ahead. Keep in mind to ask for the sauce when you pick it up as very tend to leave it out by default. Pollos Pucalor is ordered very frequently at my household. We've been ordering from there for years.
