Recommended this spot during graduation weekend and was my first time out at state college. Place…read morewas packed but they had the space and we were seated quickly. The menu was great and service was quick, then we ordered the burrata as an appetizer. Mentioned the nut allergy in our group and the server had said that they can't guarantee anything in the kitchen is safe to eat although some menu items didn't have nuts on them. The menu also says this, and maybe it's unfair to give this spot a four but in my experience restaurants shouldn't be mixing items in their dishes and there are pretty good safe serve/allergy friendly practices out there to follow and I've never had any issues. This is the first time I got a response at an American grill that they can't serve anything. Maybe it's just new to me and they're being extra cautious which is not wrong, and this place came highly recommended so I'm sure it's earned more stars, but would love to hear opinions on allergies and places that don't have "safe" serving spaces for nut allergies. Even the creamery had a nut free station

We celebrated a birthday with lots of drinks apps and foods. Started with the scallops (too fishy for me), oysters (delicious), and farmers beats (very fresh). The Colorado sandwich is always a hit! The lamb and sauce was very good. All their salads hit the spot. Everyone was happy!

If you are looking for top notch culinary art or consistent excellence in everything you eat, don't. +/ - - Food: the menu varies by day. If it is classic American cafeteria style fare, the food is pretty good. It was my first pierogie experience, and they have good cooked veggies most days. Sometimes the food, (usually the Asian cuisine, but not always), is hard to eat. My go-to if there is nothing is pizza and the salad bar which *usually* has fresh veggies (sometimes the cucumbers or spinach is frost bitten or something) and Penn State Creamery Ice Cream , which is all-you-can-eat of two flavors they chose (which usually makes the price worth it). Student and faculty discounts to lower the $13 per meal. + ambiance: nothing fancy, but it is clean and has wrap around windows that let in lots of natural light and somehow creates a great setting for in depth, fun chats with friends. + 1 star: The special place in my heart for all of the college memories and conversations here. There is something nice about the wide range of socioeconomic backgrounds and statuses of the people eating here- everything from the starving student undergrad with a meal plan, to the full professor looking for a quick chat with colleagues between classes. Something keeps me and my colleagues coming back, so it's hard to be too harsh for the sometimes bad food when there is consistently food that is made in a clean environment that will fill you up (there's always the pizza, salad, and ice cream) (Bike Parking: 2/5. Close by racks not securely bolted to concrete and are hidden out of the way. The racks are not covered or secured with video, fences, ID access, etc.)

I was disappointed with our most recent visit to The Field…read more We were here in January and had an excellent experience. The service was spot on, the food was cooked perfectly, the burgers were very tasty, the criss-cut sweet potato fries with hot honey and vinegar salt were fantastic, and the shakes were delicious. That first visit was memorable enough that we were excited to come back. This time, we waited about 50 minutes at around 5:30PM on a Thursday before graduation weekend. Honestly, that part was understandable, and we were prepared for a wait. We had a nice booth for five and ordered table fries, a few shakes, and five burgers. The fries were still excellent, and the shakes were great. Unfortunately, the burgers and service did not live up to the previous visit. My burger tasted more like stewed meat than seared beef, almost as if it had been sitting for a while. It was overcooked and under-seasoned. Our server was pleasant enough, but several sides, condiments, and modifiers were forgotten. Waters were never refilled, the table was not cleared, and a salad that had been misordered was not removed from the bill. I understand it was a busy night, but at around $40 per person for food at a burger place, I expected more consistency. I'll give The Field another try the next time I'm in town because our first experience was so good, but this visit was a letdown.
