When we first walked in, we were about to get seated on table in the middle, but asked if we could sit at a booth. They were really friendly and accommodating and found us a booth right away. We got the vegetable soup to start off, which was amazing! It comes with crackers and the soup itself is just so flavorful. They also asked if we wanted a free refill, which we were delighted by! They also have freshly squeezed orange juice, so we got the "large" which is the same sized cup as their water cups. Their "small" cup is half the size. Everything was delicious! I got an omelette with a side of pancakes and fresh fruit. I loved it! The servers were really friendly and always checked up on us. Was in town for a graduation and was told this was where I needed to get breakfast. I sampled a few items, including their famous Belgian waffle. If you're visiting the area and want a good breakfast than visit the Original Waffle Shop on North Atherton or West College Avenue. This is definitely a top 5 desitination for any Penn Stater and their family. Understand though that the downtown and Bellefonte Waffle shops are no longer affiliated with the original owner and I feel their quality is slightly off. Still good but just not the same. The "Original" North and West Waffle Shops have a great ambiance. It's bright and welcoming and service has always been awesome! There's good access and a decent amount of parking. On the weekends there is always a LONG line but it moves FAST. You'll spend more time driving to the next spot than waiting in this line - trust me. Unless it's a move-in / football / graduation / thon weekend. Than I'd just avoid this and every other place in State College. Their breakfast menu is amazing! They have really good in house coffee, some of the best bacon, great home fries, amazing french toast and really good omelettes. I'm sure the waffles are great but for some reason I never order waffles (go figure). They make in house/fresh squeezed orange juice. Another treat is the sliced and grilled muffins. This place is popular! The line was out the door, but it moves along steadily and they ask you your party size while waiting so they can better manage the table situation. It's an efficient system. Unless you're from out of town and this is a must have for you, AVOID on game day weekends! You'll wait upwards of one hour, if not longer, for a table. The french toast is good, and I like the blueberry waffle. I saw another reviewer say their waffles are reminiscent of hotel "make your own waffle" breakfast bars, and I have to agree. Prices are pretty good, generally. A side of breakfast meat's $6 which seems a bit high, and I was shocked to find that my orange juice in a standard glass was also $6. A little update. Well, I still like the waffle shop and will continue to go there. We were there yesterday, Sunday, and there was dark hair in my food. It wasn't the server, because she had blonde hair. It must've come from the kitchen, which makes me wonder if the kitchen staff wears hairnets. Also, my son didn't realize that if he had his coffee cup flipped upward, the waitress would automatically start filling it with coffee right after we sat down at the table. None of us wanted coffee. She didn't ask. She just started filling the cup. It would be nice if she said "coffee?" Even if he didn't want coffee, she didn't ask - if he wanted decaf or regular, which would've helped. So we ended up paying for the coffee. $5.89 for an orange juice seems kind of high to me. $6.29 for the little tiny serving of corn beef hash in my photo seems extremely high. read more

These are all over the place at Penn State! This was my first time at Penn State and was told this was a must-visit. I have zero regrets at this place. All of our meals were perfect and made as per our orders. I tried the bottomless coffee along with the greek omelet and chocolate chip pancakes. This was served with home fries. I'm a big fan of breakfast diners. Anytime I'm on the hunt for some food and I see a highly rated breakfast diner, there's a good chance that's where I'll end up. I stopped at this place for "lunch" in the middle of a long road trip. TLDR: They live up to their high rating. Everyone in there was exceptionally friendly and the service was top notch. I ordered French toast (one of my go-tos) with a side of hash browns (another go-to). My wife ordered eggs florentine. I sampled some of hers. She sampled some of mine. We agreed everything was delicious. My French toast was thick and fluffy. My hash browns were made from fresh potatoes. My only complaint would be the lack of REAL maple syrup, but hardly restaurant EVER has that, so I don't hold it against this one. They also have a cool way for for you to pay right on your phone, if you want. Traditional payment methods (cash/card) are also an option, but the ability to scan my receipt with my camera and take care of everything right on my phone was too convenient to pass up. read more

This is usually my go-to waffle shop, so I took my family here when they were in town this past weekend, but we had a pretty bad experience. We were a table of five plus a high chair, we waited about 30 min with the line out the door which was fine we expected as much. My grandma and disabled father were able to sit on chairs inside which I appreciate. We messed up and didn't specifically ask for a table because we didn't see any booths being used for more than four people, so we were brought to one of the booths being used for four people and left standing there. My grandma and dad tried getting in but my grandma couldn't get in without a chair to pull out and my dad was struggling to get out with his Parkinson's, not to mention if you're not skinny you're not fitting three to a bench in a booth like that. No big deal, we asked the host if we could just be put back on the list for a table, she said yes. We waited another 30 minutes, and when my step mom went to the host to ask how long it would be for a table (since several others had been seated at that point) she said "next time if you want a table you have to ask for one first. Live and learn." We decided to not respond and just leave rather than let that ruin our morning, although my grandma was upset and embarrassed that she'd been singled out and felt like she ruined our breakfast. Again, we take full responsibility for not asking first for a table and were nothing but polite to the people working there and didn't expect special treatment. It's just a shame to wait so long just to be mocked and rude to because of a disability that can't be helped. If you need accommodations, don't be like us and be sure to "live and learn" and call ahead! Two stars because as I said before, the food is good and typically better than the other waffle shops. Yesterday my Aunt treated me to breakfast here, as I am visiting from another state & have never been here before. It is definitely easy to find just off of the highway. There is lots of adequate parking. The ambience is darling! It is fresh & clean & has many lives plants inside, it's very pretty. The menu is pretty extensive, offering breakfasts & lunches. We both ordered omelets with home fries. My Aunt specifically requested everything cooked lightly & I requested light cheese in my omelet. There must be a communication problem because both of our home fries were cooked so much there were black pieces in them & the omelets were brown on the outside. My omelet had A LOT of cheese & I am not really supposed to eat dairy products. I didn't feel that our requests were unreasonable. This is really a shame because it's a convenient, well-priced restaurant to get a much needed meal. All of the basics are here, however; the staff definitely needs to work on listening skills, that would go a long way. I wouldn't go out of my way to return here. read more

Oh my good lord I love this place and the other Waffle Shops. I used to go there a lot when I was young and I would always get a chocolate chip pancake with bacon which I 100% recommend. I would even eat the orange and the parsley and my mother would be like "that's a garnish you don't eat it" but I did. Now I've upgraded to a waffle which I also recommend. I like the pecan one. The bacon is some of the best bacon I've had in my life. I've had every kind of bacon in America and Canada. Once we had a slice left over and my mom put it in her wallet to bring home to my dad. Recently I went and we had a slice left over and my dad hung it from his rearview mirror with a paper clip and a string so it would scent his car. He ate it later. read more
