Belgian waffle, side of 2 eggs, side of bacon
    Jason B.

Was in town for a graduation and was told this was where I needed to get breakfast. I sampled a few items, including their famous Belgian waffle. The waffle was definitely the highlight, although the food was all delicious. Prices were very reasonable. Now the cons: the lines can be very long. Monday at 11:am featured 25-30 people ahead of me and it doesnt move that quickly. And minor con - as good as the food is, the coffee is the opposite. But you're not there for the coffee.

If you're visiting the area and want a good breakfast than visit the Original Waffle Shop on North Atherton or West College Avenue. This is definitely a top 5 desitination for any Penn Stater and their family. Understand though that the downtown and Bellefonte Waffle shops are no longer affiliated with the original owner and I feel their quality is slightly off. Still good but just not the same. The "Original" North and West Waffle Shops have a great ambiance. It's bright and welcoming and service has always been awesome! There's good access and a decent amount of parking. On the weekends there is always a LONG line but it moves FAST. You'll spend more time driving to the next spot than waiting in this line - trust me. Unless it's a move-in / football / graduation / thon weekend. Than I'd just avoid this and every other place in State College. Their breakfast menu is amazing! They have really good in house coffee, some of the best bacon, great home fries, amazing french toast and really good omelettes. I'm sure the waffles are great but for some reason I never order waffles (go figure). They make in house/fresh squeezed orange juice. Another treat is the sliced and grilled muffins. This place just does it right! As a side note, they also operate "The Greek" which is next door to the North Atherton restaurant. It has dinner hours only (5pm-9pm) but also worth a visit!

This place never disappoints. The food is always great diner food and the breakfasts are always on point. Can't beat the buttermilk pancakes. We had Stephen as our waiter - so friendly and on top of things. Kept the coffee coming and his welcoming personality will keep people coming back.

The Go-to breakfast spot in State College. I went with a friend who's a local and just totally raved about it so we had to go. We ordered a large muffin which was to die for. It was perfectly toasted and we added butter. I ordered the Eggs Florentine and they were so delicious! Highly recommend if you're from out of town. Service was awesome!!

Came to have brunch with my son and friends of his... this is his hangout place on Sundays... We had to wait for 15 minutes to be seated and it always has a wait time... We were very well greeted and our server was very nice! The place is packed and is good for brunch! We had pancakes which were average and I also had an omelette which was better... my son had the waffle that was also ok. The place is clean. Has outside parking. Restrooms are also quite clean for the quantity pf people coming in and out.. All in all, this place is good... don't expect an amazing meal, just know why you're here!

Great place for breakfast And still is for years! It's a MUST stop if you're in Happy valley I love the pancakes here, waffles of course are good, and almost everything on the menu. Orange juice is freshly made here. Staff are very friendly and helpful Now you can pay with card here

This place is popular! The line was out the door, but it moves along steadily and they ask you your party size while waiting so they can better manage the table situation. It's an efficient system. The menu has plenty of breakfast options as well as mimosas, but what really sets the waffle shop is the friendliness of the service. Even with the overflowing crowds, we never felt rushed and the server never looked rushed and she handled our group of six with ease. I would definitely come back again

Everyone says this is the place to go for breakfast. It is busy at all their locations. The food is just your home cooking breakfast cooked to perfection. I went very early during the weekday and was able to get in and the place was pretty busy. I heard there's lines, but the lines move quickly.definitely got to go if you're looking to do or entertain with breakfast/brunch/lunch.

The Greek omelet was light, fluffy, and packed with flavor. The Pesto-Port Egg Sandwich was simple but absolutely delicious with a perfectly cooked egg and great pesto. The Balsamic Garden Avocado Toast was as beautiful as it was tasty, with fresh ingredients, creamy goat cheese, pickled onions, and a rich balsamic glaze. The Spicy Mango Sriracha grilled naan was incredibly unique--the sweet and spicy combination worked perfectly. The fresh-baked pretzels are a must-try! We took home several varieties, and they were warm, soft, and some of the best we've had. Even the latte and biscotti were excellent. On top of the amazing food, watching the staff handcraft and bake the giant pretzels right behind the counter added to the experience. Everyone was friendly, welcoming, and the service was fast despite the café being busy. If you're in State College, this place is absolutely worth a visit. Fresh ingredients, creative menu, outstanding baked goods, and genuinely kind people. We'll definitely be back!

The atmosphere hits you right away. Dark wood, old school charm, the kind of place that feels like it has stories in the walls. It is cozy, a little dim, and exactly what you would expect from a spot celebrating a century in business. The menu is not huge, but it does not need to be. It leans heavily into comfort food, with plenty of sandwich options, but enough variety that most people will find something they like. Prices are fair, nothing over the top. I started with the soup of the day, a sausage gumbo with rice. It was flavorful and satisfying without being overly spicy or heavy. A nice warm up, especially on a rainy day. For my main, I went with Bobby D's famous beef chili topped with cheddar cheese and green onions, served with cornbread. It came out in a cast iron skillet, which was a nice touch presentation wise. Portion was solid, not massive, but definitely filling. The chili leaned a little sweet, which I personally enjoyed, with just a mild kick of heat and a lot of flavor. The cornbread was excellent and tied everything together. This is not a fancy place, and it is not trying to be. It is a comfort food spot that knows its identity and sticks to it. Great for a casual meal, especially if you are in the mood for something warm and satisfying. I would absolutely come back again. Next time, I might even give those sandwiches a shot since that seems to be their bread and butter.

As fate would have it, my Adventure Buddy and I found ourselves in State College on National Ice Cream Day, and there was absolutely no way I was leaving town without finally visiting the home of my favorite ice cream flavor ever...Monkey Business (banana ice cream, peanut butter swirl, chocolate chips). I'd fallen in love with Monkey Business last summer after trying it at an ice cream shop close to my house, but somehow I'd never actually made it to the Creamery itself. Correcting that oversight immediately became part of the day's adventure plan! We arrived around 12:30 on a beautiful Sunday afternoon, fully expecting National Ice Cream Day to mean complete chaos. Surprisingly, it wasn't. Busy? Absolutely. But the line moved quickly, everyone seemed to know exactly what they were doing and the whole operation ran like a well-oiled ice cream machine. Then I looked around. Cheese. Sticky buns. Chocolate milk. Bagels. Ice cream. Ice cream. More ice cream. At one point I turned to my Adventure Buddy and said..."I could live here." Ordering couldn't have been easier. First, you tell the cashier whether you're getting a cone, bowl or shake and pay. Then you move down to the ice cream counter, where you pick your flavor. Finally...you wait for your number to be called so someone can hand you what can only be described as an absurdly generous serving of happiness. While I waited, I sampled the Grilled Stickies flavor. Big mistake! It was phenomenal! For approximately fifteen seconds, I seriously considered abandoning my beloved Monkey Business and trying something new. Fortunately...I came to my senses. Monkey Business and I have history together. When my number was called, the gentleman behind the counter handed me a bowl that was significantly larger than I expected. And yes...I audibly squealed. Again. Right there in the middle of the Creamery. I looked at him and said, "You absolutely made my day!" Because he had. We found a table outside on the patio to enjoy the beautiful weather, performed a few completely necessary happy food dances and proceeded to enjoy every glorious bite of what is still, without question, my favorite ice cream flavor on Earth. For only $6. On National Ice Cream Day. Honestly, I don't know how that day could've gotten any better. PRO TIP: Don't skip the sample spoon! There are so many incredible flavors that it's worth trying something new before committing. Just be warned...you may accidentally discover another favorite! I also learned that Berkey Creamery ships ice cream to the lower 48 states. This information feels...dangerous. Living only about an hour and a half away, I probably don't need to have Monkey Business shipped directly to my house. But...I may have to test the process someday. You know...in the name of science! If you're anywhere near State College, do yourself a favor and make the stop. Whether you're a Penn State fan, an ice cream enthusiast or just someone who appreciates an exceptionally well-run small operation, Berkey Creamery absolutely lives up to its legendary reputation. WE ARE...ICE CREAM HEAVEN!
