I come here fairly regularly, my go-to's are the specials on Tuesday and Thursday - three…read moreenchiladas rice and beans and three crispy beef tacos rice and beans respectively. Their tostadas or chips are solidly above average, I find myself horking the entire basket. I do not care for the house salsa--too much oregano and too much cilantro. It's terrible. Try the salsa at Mi Ranchito Burrito. It's bursting with fresh jalapeño and tomato and a healthy dose of fresh garlic it's fantastic. The tacos at Taqueria Jalisco or "TJ's" are the best in town they do not skimp and load them absolutely full with the lettuce tomato and cheese on the side. The ground beef or taco meat is simply the best and buy a very safe margin, therefore the crispy beef tacos and of course the beef enchiladas are consequently awesome back to the topic of the subpar salsa. I almost forgot to mention that they offer four optional or additional salsa: "Rojo", a basic salsa with no oregano that I can detect or cilantro either, "Verde"--a tomatillo-based salsa that is pretty good, "Habañero", the name speaks itself and last but certainly not least the"-Avocado-Lime". The avocado - lime is amazing in spite of it having a little bit of cilantro in it the flavor of the avocado and lime and whatever else they put in it sort of wash out the terrible cilantro taste, lol The service here is really good, very attentive and cute Hispanic waitresses. It's a respectable family restaurant but they do have an extensive drink menu. They have the usual refried beans but they have optional Charro beans, which are served whole bean. I think one time I ordered a steak and it was very thin and very well done but I liked it anyway sometimes there is a 10 to 15 minute wait but never longer than that, in my experience finally about the ambience it is very traditional Mexican food restaurant with Mexican themed artwork with emphasis on the blue agave plant which grows in abundance in Jalisco it can be crowded and loud - bustling, but it doesn't bother me I kind of enjoy being a member of a noisy crowd sometimes, lol. But other times it's much less busy and has a more serene atmosphere anyway, give this place a try they also have great breakfast tacos/burritos Closed on Mondays! Lol

I love good interior Mexican food, and this place hits the spot! When I walk into a Mexican restaurant and the menus are in Spanish or I see lots of workers dining there, I know I'm in for a great culinary experience. Locals tell me this location used to be the OG Whataburger, which probably makes me love it even more. IYKY how I feel about Whataburger. This restaurant is always busy busy, but I've never had an issue getting a table or booth quickly. It's a seat-yourself kind of place, so find a spot and get ready to eat! PROS Good prices! You don't have to break the bank to enjoy a good meal. Friendly staff who make you feel welcome. Fast service! The food comes out quickly, hot and ready to eat. Excellent coffee! Cold beer! It feels like home. Sometimes, you find a restaurant that just feels right, and this is one of those places for me. CONS The pico de gallo never has enough jalapeños for my taste. Come on, y'all! Give me some heat! The bathrooms are tiny and... well, let's just say they could use some improvement! If you love interior Mexican food, good prices, friendly service, and a laid-back atmosphere, give Arandas Taqueria a try. My buddies would talk about hitting up Picantes after a good Texas Tech win. Me? I just liked their breakfast burritos. Picantes is your classic shop. You walk in, sit anywhere you like, and they serve you chips and salsa at 8 am. Hell yeah. I always recommend their breakfast burritos there. I get that sucker loaded with bacon, potatoes, cheese, chorizo, and eggs, and the lady who was taking my order looks like she's writing the sequel to The Crucible on her order pad. After loading up on corn chips and salsa, slamming their hot coffee, and listening to the SiriusXM station playing on their DishTV, the big-as-your-face breakfast burrito lands at the table, and in two blinks, it's vanished. It's flavorful, it's well balanced, and for the value, it's an incredible price. When you're done, you pay up at the front to a super charismatic guy, and you're on your way. 30 minutes in-and-out and full of love and eggs. That's the Lubbock way. Sometimes you just want classic Tex-Mex done right--and Abuelo's delivers exactly that kind of…read morecomforting, crowd-pleasing experience. We started with the house chips and salsa trio, which is always a win here. The chips were warm and crisp, and the variety of salsas--from bright and fresh to deeper and more roasted--made it easy to keep reaching for "just one more." A solid way to kick things off. For my main, I went the veggie route, and honestly, this was the standout of the meal. The sizzling vegetable fajitas arrived steaming hot and loaded with broccoli, cauliflower, mushrooms, peppers, tomatoes, and squash--perfectly cooked, well-seasoned, and served on a cast-iron skillet that kept everything hot down to the last bite. Colorful, hearty, and surprisingly satisfying, even without meat. The rest of the table went more traditional with enchiladas, rice, beans, guacamole, and queso, and everything looked generous and comforting in that familiar, crave-worthy Tex-Mex way. Portions are filling, flavors are approachable, and it's easy to find something for everyone at the table. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with a lively bar area and cozy booths that make it a great spot for a casual dinner, family outing, or low-key night out. Service was friendly and efficient, and everything came out exactly as expected. Abuelo's may be a familiar name, but when you're in the mood for reliable Tex-Mex, solid vegetarian options, and a relaxed, welcoming vibe, it absolutely hits the mark.
