I've ordered 6 different plates in the last two week and all of them have been spot on absolutely delicious.

Not a fan. Our waitress was lovely but the food was nothing to write home about. I got the pick 3. I got a pork tamale, chicken burrito and a chicken taco. It was okay, akin to Taco Bell but way more expensive. Bill came to $40 with tip for 2 of us for lunch. Ambiance was pretty bleak and the bathroom was dirty as all heck. read more

The quality of food and service has dropped drastically. Last time we came in for lunch, our food was cold and the cheese in the enchiladas wasn't even melted. The tortillas were hard as a rock and not fresh. They have potential to be great, just seems quality needs to be revisited. read more

Fast service, good food, clean plates. We picked Leal's because it was close to us on our overnight stop back home. We were promptly greeted as we entered the restaurant and shown to our table. The staff were friendly and attentive. We were presented with salsa and chips to start. The salsa was well balanced and tasty. Our orders of tamales, carne guisada and Leal's special plate came in a reasonable amount of time. Usually one of us would have leftovers, but this time the food was very delicious and neither too much or too little. It almost sounds like the story of the three little bears, except everyone had a great outcome. Regardless Leal's has proven to be a worthy outing. Highly recommended. Wonderful old school tex-mex. Dining room is small; drinks are cans or bottles but they have Mexican soda. The service is warm and familiar; the chips and salsa are on point. The queso is melt in your mouth heaven! Take out is well packed with generous servings for a more-than-fair price. Love this place, obviously. read more

Found this local gem while working in Lubbock. Don't let the exterior fool you, Leal's has some great freshly made food that will not disappoint! I went with the pick 4 so I could sample as much as possible. Everything was fresh and hot, the chicken enchilada was one of the best I've had in years. I mean it when I say that I love Leal's. The workers are incredibly friendly and you can hear them singing along to the music as they cook. It's a small, casual place with great food. It's definitely in my top 3 when it comes to best Mexican food in Lubbock. I feel like that says a lot when we have so many great spots here when it comes to Mexican food. We're visiting from out of town and decided on Mexican food for lunch. Leal's had good reviews, so we decided to give them a try. The place is old and well used, but clean and the service and food was very good. I believe the lady who waits on us was the owner/manager and she was very sociable and helpful in making our selections. She pretty much ordered for all of us and did a great job at that! She even gave us a tamale and queso sampler to get started and their chicken and pork tamales were excellent. Everyone in our party had something different and all of it was very tasty. Even their chips, and especially their salsa, were excellent. With a Mexican eatery on almost every corner here in Lubbock Leal's Tamale Factory stands out as one of our favorites. read more

Tamales are delicious! Enchiladas are super good! Take home a dozen tamales, pop them in a ziploc bag & freeze for a warmed up quick meal...Can't be beat. I love eating local, especially when I travel so I was really excited when my friends took me to Leal's! First, it is a true hole in the wall. It's tiny but they do have a few small tables. Don't go with a large group and expect to eat in. I'm a vegetarian so appreciated that they have some meatless options. I had the cheese tamales- I had to get tamales, that's what they are known for. I also heard they cook the refried beans without lard. That's a huge win in my book! The food was great! read more

Food was out faster then most fast food restaurant. The atmosphere is nostalgic. Oldest on the radio.(like 60s and 70s). The salsa is good. Red salsa a bit tomatoish, but still good. My wife selected the tamales. She said they were fantastic. So much that she stopped eating everything else and went back and bought another pork tamale. Honestly I would skip the rice and beans for the more flavorful food on the menu. We finished it off with the cinnamon tortilla. Yummm! The staff is exceptionally friendly. Always good before. Preordered 6 dozen tamales on Thurs. for pick up on Wed. the next week. Waited in line for 25 minutes just to be told they didn't have that many and lost my order. Promised me my order in 1 hour so I went back later. Tamales not packaged, just a big ass aluminum pan of loose tamales I had to take home and tie up in 6 counts only to find out they were freaking raw, masa was not done at all. Should have made my own like normal. Now I have to cool them down in fridge before I vacuum seal or they will squish out, and then steam them properly before the party. Total BS for full price paid. How can a so called tamale factory screw up that bad? read more

The queso is nice, thick, flavorful, and one of the best in town. Hands-down! I always call it in and they have it ready super quick. The staff is always very friendly and accommodating. I have tried their tamales, which were pretty good, but I have had better as well. And some of their other plates we're good but not the best I recommend. read more

Love this little location. Everyone that worked there takes a lot of pride in their job - it obvious. They were ALL very professional. A bonus, was that the owner is familiar with the vegan lifestyle and as we were putting our order in and asking questions, she knew, right away and asked: "Are y'all vegan? I'll fix you up. I have a Son that's vegan." They then proceeded to make us the most delicious bean enchiladas that I've ever had. This will be a regular for us. Stopped by recently directly from the airport. Easy to get to and was certainly a vibe when I arrived. I knew I wanted to try the tamales but then I saw they had enchiladas too. I mean everything on the menu and being delivered to tables looked so good. I went with the Pick four and did three tamales (pork & chicken) and one beef enchilada. It took about 20 minutes for my meal but it was worth the wait. The order came with chipd and salsa which were great. The pork Tamale was definitely the big hit for me. So. Damn. Good. Well i went here for the first time because some coworkers said it was good. So here i go and order a taco plate and a drink. All others order different plates and the seemed a litgke on the light side. So my plate comes to my table and guess what? For 12 dollars the plate had three taco bell style tacos a little rice which and some can served refried beans and some badly prepared mash potatos. I could had spent at taco bell 5 dlls and it would have been a happier incident. Im pretty sure i wont comeback for dining. Sorry. You have to be better in providing better service read more
