Miraculous chicken on so many levels. Street meat could scare some folks, but not this guy. If it looks good, I'm definitely going to eat it, and this golden fried goodness looked damn good in the wee hours of the morning as we walked by. No. It wasn't the cleanest establishment but they were fresh frying chicken quarters and making salsa at nearly 3am, so I was all in! For less than $3 US you got a stack of steaming tortillas, a quarter chicken, pinto beans, shaved cabbage and some insanely delicious fiery red salsa. Slap some chicken and crispy skin inside a tortilla, tooo it with some cabbage, add a splash of salsa and a squirt of lime and you've got a rocking taco that could have even the Pope praising, well you know who. Miracles do happen here! Delicious food from an unassuming spot, with what may appear to be questionable food handling, all adds up to a miracle meal that miraculously did not result in any illness whatsoever. Street meats and bites is something that I always look forward too. When a friend told me about this street fried chicken, he mentioned that it may not look like much, but the chicken is really good. All it took was one walk and a smell to know that I had to get myself an order. You'll see two gentlemen, ready to take your order and the mounds of grease frying up fresh chicken, and fried tortillas that are up for grabs. I went with a two piece chicken meal, which comes with a wing, chicken breast, cabbage, beans, and real spicy salsa. All for around $2-3, depending on the exchange rate. The chicken when it comes straight off the fryer is pretty delicious. The chicken has a nice crispy skin, followed by juicy chicken. The beans are alright, but the hot sauce is perfect if you like to spicify you meal. Once you order, they have your plate ready in less than 2 minutes. It's all counter seating, so you get massive street vibes when eating here. Would I eat here sober? probably not. This is not fancy or gourmet by any means but that's what I like about it. After a night of partying, it's the greasy goodness that'll satisfy those drunchies. It's a perfect place to wind down with friends. Definitely a place that'd be my last stop of the night before making my way back USA. read more

La Brea tar chicken, dirty chicken, street chicken - call it what you like, it's good fried chicken at a great price. Just about $2 US depending on the exchange. Would I eat here sober? Probably not, but it's great right before you head back to the US! Plate comes with freshly fried leg quarter, beans, corn tortillas and salsa on a mound of cabbage. They chicken is thoroughly cooked and super crispy. They stay busy, open 24 hours. Like everyone else said - not the best side of town. Definitely NOT the cleanest or even clean. 50 years. That's apparently how long this backroad chicken stand has been open, 24/7, for the simple reason that it has no doors and no refrigeration. The chicken is literally shipped in as needed from who knows where. I'm not the health department so I can't give them an "F" for sanitary conditions, but I can give them a good Yelp rating for providing my hungry, drunken Tijuana crew with some tasty late-night sustenance. The guys behind the counter are a pleasure to chat with, too, assuming you are conversational in Spanish. Even for this part of town, they realize that what they are doing is a little different. But they take pride in what they do and in their "Miracle Chicken", as the name translates. In short, come for the novelty and stay for the chicken. Watching them cook it up at lightning speed and throw it on a plate with rice and beans for a ridiculously low cost is a pleasure in itself. I'm not a big fan of fried chicken, or fried foods at all, but when Brad and Shalini say you must go here, you follow. I didn't get a plate myself, but I took the drumstick off of my friend Shea's plate and must say it was pretty good fried chicken. A plate was something like 36 pesos, or less than $2, for a big piece of chicken, beans, tortillas, and a hot sauce that's no joke. It was all good, and the staff speaks a bit of English to boot! Can I give this place two different star ratings? Ugh, I know it's not possible so I'll roll with my "drunk rating" of five stars seeing that my sober rating would probably be a two or three at absolute best. Hell, I don't think my better judgement would even allow me to eat here sober. Polla Milagroso directly translates to Miracle Chicken, but my friends and I prefer to refer to this joint as, Tijuana chicken, dirty chicken, drunk chicken, street chicken or your chances of coming down with food poisoning in Tijuana just tripled chicken. After no less than 50 meals here, I think I'm able to say that though dirty, this place is f#cking delicious and has been a regular stop for me over the past five years. Please believe me when I say that this place is not for everyone and is in a very unsavory part of the city. It's a family business with six seats, no door, no refrigeration, no running water, a fryer that hasn't been cleaned (like ever... seriously), and one menu item: fried chicken. It's open 24 hours a day and hasn't closed (or been cleaned) in over 50 years. True story. They can't close, no door, remember? It's filthy. Absolutely disgusting, but undeniably good. Get past the smell of the street and the beyond unsanitary conditions and you're in for an absolute treat. Grease from the hood will drip on the counter and you'll see roaches run up the wall, but damn, when your down to your last two bucks and need a hearty meal, this is the spot. The plate will be thrown your direction seconds after taking your seat and is composed of an over-fried chicken quarter, a big scoop of beans (not refried), a pile of cabbage, a dousing of hot salsa and a stack of tortillas. You're not handed utensil as they don't have any and stray dogs will steal your chicken bones, but that's the beauty of this place - never to be seen in a guidebook and only now reviewed on Yelp (after much deliberation). So, are you daring? Is your stomach made of steel? Do you want to seek out the dirtiest of the dirty street food? If so, keep your head on a swivel, make your way down the side streets, act like you've been there before and enjoy some of the best damn drunk food you'll ever find in any city anywhere in the world.
